I thought about building systems that express my design most fully, rather than preferentially trying to select and make for those. So I made an effort to apply learned various systems. Eventually I choose building systems that are precast concrete system, cladding system and mechanical system.

I thought very important, how do I very simply express that. Column is made to look thinly, window is minimized the frame. And I effort to emphasis simply crossed edge of gridded roof slab. Additionally, I adopted a mechanical system that makes to move a slab vertically for enforcing library programs.

Iรข€™m designing a library renovation project at this semester. My design strategy is to attract uneducated people in site. In a front yard, The library has terraced roof that is begun at ground level and people stroll there. I want to make space that blends programs of library with break area of roof by vertical cube. Also, the square grid make various height in 4 ways. Light flows in the library under the roof through gaps making by the height difference.

Vertically movable SLAB A library slab(under the roof) goes up to the roof by mechanical system. This movable slab of the cube makes space of various characters on roof. When the movable slab goes up, under space is changed to another characteristic space. For example, we can sit down and reading a book in there.

COLUMN, precast concrete SLAB and WINDOW with minimized frame The roof is made of square precast concrete slabs(6m*6m). For minifying height difference and lighting through the gap, thickness of slab is minimized. Upper face of slabs is made with precast concrete that composed of various aggregates, thereby users are friendly felt and it can make many patterns. A slab is supported by 4 thin columns. That is not overlap edges. Most columns are circular. But column of vertical cube is square. That is why it reasonably makes window which is opened and shut. In case of the window, Iรข€™d like to make a simple facade. So upper part of glass is fixed to the frame and lower part of glass is fixed to the side of lower slab. 40

On the Itaewonno, there are many buildings which were builtin 70s and 80s economic development. Those buildingsperformed a surgery for responding situation. Consequently,pedestrians are attracted to fancy signboards and moderninterior design of those buildings. However, they have cumbersomely adjuncts of air conditioner and ventilation ducts on the wall as we look closely atthose. We also can find it in the other cities as well as the Itae-wonno. It's not beautiful to everyone and sometimes goes asfar as to look weird, but it's universal . It must be acceptedbecause it is undoubtedly necessary elements.

Buildingรข€™s life cycle is more than 50 years. Times are chang-ing and technology is advancing. There is no reason that wesurvive with only a fan in the summer and opening the windowfor ventilation of kitchen. However, at that time, We should dolike that because we have no time to predict the future. Thereare still many buildings which was built by those reasonsaround us, so they have to be changed. But they are full without flexibility for accepting changes positively. Thus, all ofthese could be occurring in outside. Besides, the betteradjuncts of air conditioner are near, the better ventilation ductsare high. Consequently, from day to day, buildings are necessarilystanding with heavy machines and many pipes on their wallslike patients with a respirator in hospital room.
