WELCOME Hello, my name is Kathy and welcome to the first issue of Vintage Finds. It was just two years ago when I started building an online directory for resale businesses. I spent most of my time visiting local antique shops, thrift stores and flea markets. I met with the owners, photographed their latest finds and blogged about them online. Little did I know that my journey would lead me here, creating Vintage Finds. Along my way I have met a wonderful group of people. Their abilities to restore, reinvent and re-purpose items amaze me. I hope you enjoy reading Vintage Finds as I share their stories with you. May they inspire us all‌ Best wishes & Happy Thrifting!

Fun Fresh Inviting

Flea Market Fun There is a beautiful new look at local flea markets. It's fun, fresh and inviting. Vendors are setting up one of a kind shops sharing their artistic creations and restyled items. They’ve found an inexpensive way to keep their overhead low and their prices affordable. Have a look at one of my favorite Central Florida Flea Market.... Renninger’s Twin Markets

Renninger’s Twin Markets Mount Dora, Florida

Favorite Flea Markets

Every weekend over 400 vendors come to Renninger’s Twin Markets, in Mount Dora, Florida to sell a wide variety of items. They have everything from fresh produce, crafts, furniture, jewelry to quality antiques and collectibles. The market is divided into two unique shopping areas, the flea market and the antique market.

Savvy shoppers arrive early on Saturday and Sunday mornings to browse the flea market side, where one can find new items brought in by their favorite dealers. Moving on towards the field located at the back of the flea market, shoppers can find estate type sales. It’s here where the unique treasures can be found. On the way out one can grab the freshest in fruits and vegetables from local farmers. Next stop is the Street of Shops, located at the antique side of the market. It’s a wonderful place to spend mid-morning. Quaint little shops line the street with beautifully decorated antique shops, each individually owned..

Wandering though the outdoor pavilion, one can find some of the most creative vendors at the market such as Kay, who sells the best in shabby chic furniture. Janet of Evergreen, loves to restyle items, giving them a fresh new look!

Last stop , head inside to enjoy the air conditioning while shopping for more antiques and collectibles.

Peggy’s Antiques & Toni Moody

In addition to being open every Saturday and Sunday. Renninger’s has several Antique Extravaganzas in the winter months. During their Extravaganzas an additional thousand dealers set up across the property for a shopping weekend to remember.

Renninger’s Antique Extravaganza The Antique Extravaganza is a dream for the vintage at heart. Three times a year, for three days Renningers is alive with antique vendors from all over the United States. In addition to their regular vendors over 1000 antique vendors set up shop across the property. Every thing you can imagine will be represented from jewelry, collectibles to architectural objects. If you haven't been grab a friend, spend the weekend and find some wonderful treasures.

TIPS FOR SHOPPING THE EXTRAVAGANZA Ÿ Arrive early to get the best parking spot. (Easier to fill the car with new treasures.)

Ÿ Bring a cart to haul your items . Ÿ Wear comfortable shoes and a hat. Ÿ Browse between the outside and inside dealers. (The air-conditioned buildings will keep you cool )

Ÿ Bring small bills.

Love this beach cottage look! Find Artist Suzanne & Don Puckett of Snd Designs at the Extravaganza with their latest creations. They specialize in cottage & beach furniture, tables, benches, cupboards, step-stools, mirrors, pet dishes, bookcases and coat racks. http://snddesigns.blogspot.com

Love the abundance!

Burlap Galore! These dealers, were a favorite at the Extravaganza. The shear volume of merchandise brought customers into their booths to browse about. The burlap was a popular find at the market. Crafters are using it to create custom bags and pillows. Artists are using it as canvas. It’s also popping up all over as the new fabric to use in reupholstering furniture.

Silver, a decorating staple!

Rusty hooks in the shape of dragonflies, only $2. What a fantastic find!

Give your home a bit of vintage charm with antique wooden shutters. You can find them in every color and size imaginable at the Extravaganza. Or perhaps purchase a large antique sign to make a bold decorating statement.

Heart Vintage Designs Owner PROFILE

Meet Shop Owner: Kitty Breed

Thrifting: it's the new retail By Kitty Breed Back in the 80's I was like everyone else, hitting the malls and buying everything new. I got really good at finding great retail bargains. It didn't hurt that I was a size 8 and could always find clothes on sale. I ventured out a bit into the world of thrifting at consignment shops in nearby towns. I had a good time. But when I went to the flea market where I lived, I found mostly cheap new stuff so I kind of forgot about it.

Nevertheless, I created some great collections Via Etsy and retail sources. Over the course of the years my house got crowded and I realized that a good cleaning was in order. I thought maybe I could sell some of my stuff after donating several carloads to charities. Fast forward to the present‌ I spend every weekend at the flea market running my own booth and love it! I get to go out picking and have learned a ton about selling vintage items. I've met the nicest people and scored some great deals along the way. I started out with a booth at a now shuttered flea market mall and sold decorative items I was ready to pass on to someone else. I kept collecting and graduated to a huntress of well, Junk. I've developed an aesthetic that embraces the chippy and patinaed. I don't think I can go back to the mall anymore‌ too boring.

Even if you've never thrifted before, it's not too late to start and I'll be glad to share a few pointers I've picked up along the way. For starters, get a GPS even if you're good with directions. Get to know a few vendors in your local area. When you're ready to open a booth of your own, their advice will be invaluable. Pick at every possible opportunity and get to know typical price ranges. Most importantly, determine what makes up the essence of your style. Doing this isn't as easy as it sounds but it matters. Whatever it is that you always gravitate to will be what you can sell. One tip I can offer is to try to brand your personal style using only two words to help guide you in your purchases. {I cheat and use three words. Mine are "Shabby Vintage } Don't sweat the small stuff. You'll learn as you go. Just don't spend too much on your wares and remember that thrifting is the new retail. You'll never go back.

Vintage Nesting It’s that time again, Spring is here! A great time for feathering your nest with treasures from the past. Undoubtedly the thrill of the hunt is what propels mother daughter duo, Donna and Tiffany owners of The Vintage Nest . But the end result is what matters most! Creating a space that is stylish and unique, decorated with just the right touch of vintage character is what they imagine when selecting pieces for their shop. They can envision the dusty pieces they pick out of barns , flea markets and auctions in their new glory long before the transformation is complete. Long before they have been cleaned, painted, or reupholstered and made ready for a new home! It is of course this gift that makes their shop The Vintage Nest such a treasure trove to shop! Since this duo is always on the hunt it is no surprise that their shop is ever evolving and never at a loss to delight!

Buy what you love. Imagine pieces painted or reupholstered. Character pieces never go out of style. Keep your home comfortable .
