1. “The law entered that the offence might abound.” The law was not given to make men more sinful, but rather to expose their sin. As the apostle Paul declared in Romans 7:7, “What shall we say then? is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, you shall not covet.” The law discovers to us the utter sinfulness of our sin, lest we ever imagine for even a millisecond that any part of our being is without sin.
