In the Spotlight

The Men (and women) of Mobilit y & Mor e by Dan it a Nixon ph ot os by J & H Ph ot ogr aph y

Meet the men of Mobility & More, located in Loveland, CO. In 2003, three generations of the Black family began serving the Northern Colorado community with a durable medical equipment (DME) company. They have built the company through their commitment to provide the very best products and customer service. Tom (Thomas A. Black Sr.), the patriarch of the family, previously owned three Whataburger franchises in Texas. In 2002, he and his wife, Kyleen, decided to move with their daughter and two grandchildren to Colorado to be near family. Tom explained, ?We needed to do something, and we wanted to do it as a family. We looked at buying an established DME company in Colorado Springs; the sale didn?t happen. We were sold on the idea of owning a DME company, so we decided to go ahead and build our own business from the ground up.? Thus, Mobility & More was born.

Tab (Thomas A. Black II), Tom?s son, is the business manager of Mobility & More and an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP). Tab?s son, Tommy, (Thomas A. Black III) worked with the company for a season assisting with repairs and installations. Tom?s daughter, Dionne, handles billing. Her daughter, Chanel, and son, Hunter, are the ?swiss army knives? of the company. They do whatever needs to be done in the moment including installations, repairs, marketing, etc. They are also both technicians and ATPs. If you stop by the store, the first friendly face you will see is Gayle who is the greeter and customer service specialist. She is not related to the family, but has been a invaluable employee at Mobility and More for over 12 years. Tom?s wife, Kyleen, was the glue that kept the family together. She passed from Parkinson?s in 2019 and is greatly missed by her family. (continued on next page)

Est at e Planning is Key Dur ing COVID-19 Pandemic We are living in truly unprecedented times as we take on the COVID-19 pandemic. Entire communities are currently experiencing drastic measures to protect ourselves and our loved ones from harm?s way. While the novel coronavirus has left many wondering what the future will bring, what hasn?t changed is people?s need for well-drafted estate planning. Most of us do not enjoy facing the inevitable, although having properly drafted estate planning in place can ease the mind of the ?what-ifs? during these uncertain and turbulent times.

guess work and ensure that your loved ones are able to honor your wishes when you are no longer able to do so yourself. Basic estate planning includes the creation of wills and trusts. A properly drafted will ensures that your estate will be distributed pursuant to your written wishes upon your passing. Without a will in place, your estate will be divided and distributed pursuant to the intestacy laws of your state. Further, among many other benefits, trusts can be used to reduce income taxes, remove assets from your estate for estate tax purposes, provide supplemental income to individuals with special needs, and avoid probate. Other measures should be considered as well, for example, financial and healthcare power of attorney documents will protect your interests during incapacity. Additionally, your attorney can assist you with obtaining Long-Term Care Insurance and effectuating proper Medicaid Planning so that your hard-earned dollars are not depleted by possible long-term care needs in the future.

Comprehensive estate plans can eliminate the

Advanced Medical Directives and Do Not Resuscitate (?DNR?) Orders during the pandemic should be carefully considered and discussed with your attorney and attending physician in detail. Advanced Medical Directives, which can include the addition of DNR orders, are useful in directing your health care power of attorney and attending physician as to how you would like to receive care when you cannot communicate those decisions on your own behalf. Such documents become necessary when an individual has a terminal condition or is in persistent vegetative state; does that individual want to receive artificial nutrition and hydration? Life sustaining procedures may include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, surgery, ventilation, and, importantly, intubation. All things that may be necessary to keep a person alive while fighting the coronavirus. While your attorney can advise you regarding the legal implications of having these documents in place, you should also consult with your doctor what this means for your care if the time comes.

suspension of the personal appearance requirement for notarization due to the presence of COVID-19. Shortly thereafter, the Colorado Secretary of State issued temporary rules, which have been codified at CCR 1505-11, allowing for remote notarization via audio-visual communication. For Coloradans, this means that law firms can use video-conferencing services such as GoToMeeting and Zoom to hold signing ceremonies to execute your legal documents. As such, you can now have a valid will, power of attorney, or trust executed from the comfort of your own home.

Leaving your house is not necessary to execute your estate planning during stay-at-home orders. With stay-at-home orders in place across the country, states have become creative in issuing temporary rules and legislation allowing for modifications to execution requirements of certain legal documents. For example, on March 27, 2020, Colorado Governor Jared Polis issued Executive Order D 2020 019 ordering the temporary

"I would like to take the opportunity to nominate Hilda and Ireon Pentico for the 2020 Senior Hall of Fame. They work and have worked tirelessly on several projects and continue to do so today. Their efforts have been enjoyed by many, along with the smiles and happiness this couple brings to those who live in their community.

Ireon and Hilda Pentico 2020 Hall of Fame Recipients

Community involvement has been a big part of their volunteerism and hard work. They enjoy lending a helping hand whenever they see a need or are asked. This couple is not only hard-working, and faithful, they also love teaching others. Digging in and getting dirty brings on a whole new meaning for these two! Pulling weeds and planting flowers to beautify their town was so appreciated! We all know weeds are one of those things that never seem to go away. They both were there time and time again pulling and pulling to make Town Hall, the Milliken Senior Center, Kermit's Garden, and the Heritage House stay beautiful. Handyman work in general was also on their plate. I cannot even begin to list the projects and such that they have completed ln their time since moving to Milliken. The talents of these two are endless! Both have participated in and brought square dancing to the area, including dancing for the Greeley Stampede and the Milliken Senior Center. They also traveled to various towns to engage others in this type of fun and exercise. Music is another one of their loves! Homemade musical instruments were made by this couple and brought into the center to provide a very entertaining experience for all! Hilda even made period correct costumes for them and others to wear while performing. Being on the committee to invent and make various floats for parades can also be added to their talents and their tireless giving of time. Cooking is just another of the many talents this couple possess. They have been a part of fundraising for the senior center by making noodles and kraut burgers as well as helping with the sale of them too. Volunteering and working the senior booth at the Milliken Beef N Bean event has required many hours of this couple to help raise funds for the non-profit organization in which 14 14

they so proudly serve. The children of Milliken enjoyed Hilda and lreon, even though they were not aware of who was making their holidays so special. How you ask? They have acted as Santa and Mrs. Claus for many years as well as the Easter bunnies, Henry and Henrietta. The families of this community loved having breakfast with Santa too. They came in costume for nearly ten years for the children and their families, and to serve the town they live in! As you can see, community is so very important to Hilda and lreon! They stuffed all the utility bills for the Town of Milliken for years without any compensation; just to help! I cannot even imagine how many envelopes they have stuffed in their many years of doing this. They continue to stuff these utility bill envelopes to this day! When it comes to the Senior Center specifically, both have done so much! Both are current senior board members. Hilda currently holds the office of treasurer, and lreon a board member. Hilda has also held the position of secretary in past years. They volunteer continuously for the senior center they love so much. Decorating, serving, Christmas boutique, doing laundry, nutrition meal services, planning activities, making games, and assisting anyway they can. It would be impossible to list all they have done and do, not only for the Milliken Senior Center, but for the community they so love. Somewhere in all this, Hilda has also found time to work as an assistant to the Senior Coordinator. She held this position for over twenty years! The Town of Milliken and the Milliken Senior Center are very blessed to have them volunteer the way they do, and to have them always, always do it with a smile.

Cont inuing t o Make a Dif fer ence!

Hilda and Ireon Pentico have figured out a way to continue to make a difference in their community will staying safe at home. The two of them have made over 150 cloth masks that they have given away to seniors or community members who can't find masks or can't afford them. Kuddos to the Penticos!

My Gypsy Soul Loves Camping by Geor ge Ryan

But then I started to notice the number of large and powerful diesel RV?s pulling a car or car trailer behind them heading off to . . . who knows where? . . . . My gypsy soul sure envied them for their brand of freedom. That envy is what drove me to begin seeking out RV shows.

Sticker Shock! My sub conscience said to me ?Well, I guess I can?t enjoy that lifestyle?. But then a friend stuck a slide-in camper on the back of his pickup, and he had ? well, almost the same amenities as the big RV?s that I envied. My friend could do most of what the big rigs do, right? So, my gypsy soul made me purchase a custom made ?Cowboy Camper ? just like his (but built to fit my truck). Boy did that expand my camping enjoyment and satisfy my gypsy soul! For the moment ...

My gypsy soul made itself known during the 70?s. It started with adventures into the wilderness on weekends with a sleeping bag strapped to the backrest on a motorcycle. My protection from any weather was tying a tarp to the backrest and handlebars and staking it to the ground for shelter. During this period of my life, I was an active duty Marine stationed in California. I rode deep into Mexico, across the Arizona desert, and made frequent forays into the Salton Sea region. Jodi realized that many seniors are feeling extra isolated during this unique period and time, and decided to contribute her gifts to brighten up the day of some lucky local seniors. Jodi received nominations from several organizations and individuals who serve seniors, and put together beautiful bouquets to be delivered to them on May Day. Tags were designed and created by Johnstown resident Ginger Phillips. Two volunteers jumped into their car and set out to deliver the beautiful flowers!

When you ar e look ing t o send f lower s...why should you choose Flower Tr ibe? Flower Tribe is passionate about making mindful flower choices and delights in bringing your unique flower point of view to life. Locally grown flowers are always their first choice. They source their flowers as close to home as they can. Fair-trade Certified Flower Farms, Rain-forest Alliance Certified and VeriFlora Certified flower and American Grown choices for what they can not get close by. Arrangements are presented in vintage, up-cycled and re-cycled vases and pots. They compost all their floral stems and organic debris back to a local flower farmer from whom they source their flowers, and to other local green waste recipients, bringing the process full circle.

Floral foam has a DIRTY LITTLE SECRET! It is a one use plastic that breaks down into micro plastics. It is carcinogenic and toxic to humans. It does not compost or biodegrade. For this and other environmental reasons, Flower Tribe is 100% floral foam free to keep their carbon footprint a little lighter. Unused or gently used flowers are re-purposed and donated to non-profits or other charitable enterprises with values inline with their own. Flower Tribe reuses and recycles every gosh darn little thing they can. Last, but not least, they create stunning and unusual flower arrangements!
