Gena Feldman was born in Akron, Colorado and moved to Berthoud in 1978. Gena is known to wear many ?hats?. Gena?s first hat is the hat of ?business owner/entrepreneur ?. In 2007 she opened Indigo Sky Trading Company in Berthoud. Her shop is filled with wonderful and unusual jewelry, antiques, collectibles and items handcrafted by local artisans. There?s definitely something for everyone! Gena?s second hat is ?teacher ?. Gena teaches oil painting, stained glass, jewelry making, glass-fusing, mosaic and fairy garden classes in her store. Many of her clients find it very rewarding to make something and display it in their home. Gena?s third hat is ?Queen Mum of the Shady Ladies Red Hatters?. She started Shady Ladies in 2002, they just celebrated their 8

The most unexpected and challenging hat Gena has had to wear appeared several years ago. The hat from the diagnosis of cancer. Despite chemo and radiation she hardly missed a beat during her illness. The treatments gave her another new hat- curly hair! Gena is a fun-loving, joke-telling, free-spirited person! Her warm smile never leaves as she greets customers in her store. Do we get wiser as we age? Dr. Beth Firestein believes we do. Dr. Firestein, a licensed psychologist, has counseled many older women during her 23 years in Loveland. In addition to her private practice, she facilitates a Wise Women group. The group meets on alternate Tuesdays from September through May. These meetings welcome women of all ages. They are a gift to the community and are offered at no cost. The first meeting of the new series will be held on September 10th from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the House of Neighborly Service. Women may come

regularly to all of the meetings or drop in occasionally. Everyone is accepted into the group and becomes an active participant. Dr. Firestein begins her facilitation with a focus topic. She distributes a short discussion of the subject and some questions to consider in a "Food for Thought" article. Those who have signed up for email notifications receive this prior to the meeting. Printed copies are also available at the gathering. A sampling of previous topics includes: Balancing Self and Others, Listening, and Saving Our Sanity. Dr. Firestein was raised in Austin, Texas, and attended the University of Texas. She discovered Northern Colorado when she came to Fort Collins for a doctoral internship at CSU. Although, she accepted a position at Southern Illinois University and stayed there for ten years, her heart kept calling her back to Colorado. She moved to Loveland in 1996. Maintaining a work-life balance is important to her. Having reached the age of 61, Dr. Firestein chooses to stay active. Riding her horse, B.J., has been a source of joy for 23 years. For additional relaxation and stress relief, Dr. Firestein enjoys hiking and camping!

Elza Simpson is a complex man. In retirement, he designs and builds intricate covers that operate wall light switches. ?I?m self-taught at everything I?ve done in life,? he says. The 62-year-old spent much of his life doing computer technician and tech support work. Before moving to Loveland about two years ago, Elza raised alpacas and donkeys in Bennett, Colorado. One of his hobbies is making clocks. Elza wanted to pursue making cases for clocks. In 2017, he discovered CreatorSpace in downtown Loveland on Railroad Avenue. He joined, and has access to the facility 24/7. The Loveland CreatorSpace is a non-profit, members funded and operated, cooperative space for engineers, artists, musicians, and tinkerers of all sorts to come together and create. CreatorSpace has a wood, metal and electronics shop, along with 3D printers and laser cutters. Using the laser cutter, Elza found it easy to design and make things. This is how he came up with the concept of making light switch covers with gears that resemble clocks. His company Switches and Gears evolved soon after. ?It?s a fun way to make a light go on and off,? Elza says. Ph ot os by Bob M cDon n ell

People like the unique nature and look of the switches. Elza sells them on etsy.com and at a local store. He wants to expand into other markets. Prices range from $20 to $35. Looking ahead, he will continue to fulfill the growing demand for his one-of-a-kind product. Elza is eager to design new switch plate patterns.

Ellen Roylance-Dvorak of Loveland loves golf for a number of reasons. She says its good exercise, something she can do with both family and friends, and a sport one can play for years. Ellen is proud that she got her daughter, Michelle, into golf at an early age, starting her on lessons at the age of eight. Mrs. Walsh's Garden in Estes Park offers a quiet respite in the midst of the whirlwind of activity in the downtown area. Developed with private funding in 2010 by the Lamey family as an homage to Peggy Walsh, longtime Estes Park resident, the Garden occupies one-third of an acre at 322 Elkhorn, across from Performance Park. All the flowers, bushes and other plants growing here are native to Colorado. Have you ever wondered what that flower or bush you saw in Rocky Mountain National Park was called? If it's native to the area, you will probably find it in Mrs. Walsh's Garden. Designed with a loop path, the garden includes hundreds of native plants, most of them with an identification placard. columbines, wild roses and harebells were in bloom. A cactus garden has recently been added. There is a box for leaving questions for a horticulturist. The path through the garden has been designed to accommodate wheelchairs and is level and smooth, paved with decomposed granite for stability. It winds through the garden, crossing a footbridge and leading to a pond at the far end. The Town of Estes Park owns and manages Mrs. Walsh's Garden, with the guidance of an advisory board. Chairperson Joan Sapp welcomes everyone interested in plants to visit the garden. ?It can be the average gardener who just wants to know what they can grow in their backyard

garden,? she said, or someone with specific interests. ?It's a peaceful place,? she added. Admission to Mrs. Walsh's Garden is always free, and it is open every day from sunrise to sunset. The gate is kept latched to keep out deer and elk; guests are asked to close it behind them after they enter. ?We can keep the deer and elk out, but we can't keep the chipmunks and the rabbits out,? said Joan. One of Estes Park's best bronze sculptures is tucked away in the corner of the Garden, overlooking the pond: a young boy reading with a bird perched on his book. A club dedicated to fishing? Yes! The Loveland Fishing Club began about fifteen years ago with a dozen or so fishing enthusiasts and has since grown about to 100 members. They love to go fishing, talk about fishing, teach others to fish, and promote the joys of fishing.

Members of the St. Bart's congregation might be forgiven for finding it difficult to get used to seeing their rector playing the guitar in a jazz group. Seth sees no conflict, and explains that music is one of the ways he copes with the stress and responsibility of leading the congregation. He also stays in touch with friends, old and new, and draws strength and inspiration from reading, from prayer, from his strong faith, and from sitting quietly outdoors in the company of the trees and the mountains.

Rocky Mountain National Park is known for dramatic scenery and magnificent Fall colors. Most of the trails in the Park demand strenuous effort from hikers, but there are some that are easily accessible by visitors with impaired mobility, including those in wheelchairs.

At Sprague Lake, a level path leads from the parking lot to the half-mile trail encircling the lake, with benches at several points allowing hikers to rest and enjoy the views of Hallet Peak and Flattop Mountain. Fishing is permitted, and there is a pier extending over the lake. Elk and moose frequent the lake, and there are picnic tables near the parking area.

What is a Guar dianship/Conser vat or ship? Guardianships and Conservatorships are established through the Court for elderly or disabled individuals to protect their interests. A guardian handles the personal interests and medical affairs of the incapacitated person, and a conservator manages the financial interests of someone who can no longer manage their own financial affairs. Often, if a guardianship is necessary a conservatorship is also needed. However, sometimes the individual is unable to manage their financial affairs but does not meet the definition of incapacity, or in the alternative an individual may suffer from incapacity, but not have sufficient assets to justify a conservatorship. Any person interested in the welfare of the party who needs a conservatorship or guardianship can petition to have a guardian/conservator appointed. Often, family members will agree to serve as the guardian or conservator. However, if sufficient funds are available or there is conflict in the family, it may better to have an independent third party serve in these roles. Your attorney can give you information on local professionals willing to take on these roles and their rates. Serving as a loved one?s guardian/conservator can be time consuming and there are numerous requirements set by the Court to ensure the protected persons interests are being adequately protected.
