GREECE: Activity 2: Experience cooperative teaching method outside classroom. Topic: “The use of Water” Visit places: Hydroelectric power station, Watermill, The House of Water Teams: 6 (each team consists of 7 students. 1 student from Spain, Germany, Belgium and 4 from Greece.) Activity Goals  

Water as renewable green energy sources. Sustainable Water Management.

Objectives     

Learn about the applications of potential and kinetic energy Learn how hydroelectric plants and watermills generate power using the potential and kinetic energy of the water supply. Learn how we can save water in everyday life. Learn to work in teams. Improve English language skills.

Resources/Materials   

Student Worksheet / Resource Sheet (attached) Mobile phone which should include a QR code scanner application (at least one in each team). Field study at the hydroelectric power station of “Glaykos”, at the watermill of “Katsigiannis” and at the information center about saving water “The Water-House”.

Procedure    

Students are divided into 6 groups of 7 students. Each team has a name, the red team, the green team, the yellow team, the blue team, the dark blue team and the white team and they will wear corresponding color hat. There will be a coordinator teacher for each team. Each team will get the worksheet/recourse sheet. Students are going to make a field study at a hydroelectric power station, at a watermill and at an information center about saving water. Each team has to cooperate so as to fill in the given worksheet.

In order to fill in the worksheet as accurately as possible, students have to collect data through observation, listen and search of QR codes. QR codes can be found everywhere (inside and outside the hydroelectric power station, the watermill and the Waterhouse). Their ID will be our logo and the number of the question. At the end of the activity each team has to give the complete worksheet to the teacher who is in charge of the team.
