If you’ve never attended this event you don’t know what you’re missing, it is amazing! Thousands of bikes gather at the Courthouse in downtown Sevierville for the opening ceremony at 10am. This year’s ceremony will focus on the families of P.T.S.D victims, the ceremony consists of Patriotic singing, guest speakers, placing a wreath at the Veteran’s Monument and Taps marks the beginning of the event. The police escorted 65 mile ride leaves, rain or shine, at 11am. There are NO FEES for this ride! Patriotic music, placing of the wreath, 21 Gun Salute followed by Taps concludes the event. Come early and have coffee and breakfast at Court House Donuts. “UNDERSTANDING SIN” Rom.6:1-18 the subject matter of this entire chapter is the word Sin. We must have a greater understanding of this word and the text in which it is used. To do this we must go to the original text. Sin is sometimes used as a noun (person, place, or thing), describing the state of Sin in which we were in before our salvation. Sin can also be used as a verb (implying action), describing the act of sin in which we all commit, even after our salvation. Vs.1 “… shall we continue in sin (noun-the state of sin). Vs.2 God forbid, how shall we that are dead to sin (nounthe state of sin) live any longer there in.” The answer is; we can’t because “we are DEAD to sin (noun-the state of).” Once we are born again, the Holy Spirit comes into our human spirit and seals our spirit-man Eph.1:13 “… after ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.” To be sealed means nothing can get in and nothing can get out. We will never be in the state of sin again, I didn’t say you wouldn’t sin, that would be the verb- the act of sin. Vs. 15 “What then? Shall we sin (verb-the act of sin) because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. This is the only place in chapter 6 where the word Sin is used as a verb (the act of sin). There are many scriptures in the bible saying; once you’ve been truly born again, you will never be a sinner again. I didn’t say you wouldn’t sin (verb-the act of sin), we will never be in the state of sin (sin-noun) again! This helps us to finally understand 1 Jo.3:6 “Whosoever abideth (born again) in Him sinneth (noun) not: whosoever sinneth (noun) hath not seen Him, neither knows Him.” Vs.9 “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin (noun): for His seed remains in him: and he cannot sin (noun), because he is born of God.” This refers to “sin” as a noun- the state of sin. The traditional church has a slogan it’s been using for years; “I’m just a sinner saved by Grace,” that is biblically incorrect, you cannot be both, and you’re either a sinner or your saved by Grace. 1 Jo. 2:1 “My little children (believers) these things write I

unto you, that ye sin (verb-the act of sin) not. And if any man sin (verb-the act of sin), we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” Heb. 8:12 “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.” 2 Cor.5:19 “God was in Christ…not imputing their trespasses unto them” God has turned off the sin meter in your life. Until next time, keep your face in the wind and your kickstand up. To be found faithful, Pastor Ron

Blossom – 6 yo. American Staffordshire Terrier mix. It’s springtime, so come and pick up your very own Blossom! She’s been waiting patiently at McKamey all winter, but now she’s ready to hit the trail. None of that silly puppy chewing for her, she likes to explore and climb up for a view, then go home and chill on the couch with you. Blossom is smart and loves her treaties, so she’s eager to learn new tricks like Sit and Shake. She can even catch a treat in the air (but won’t be fooled by a ball)! She’d prefer all your attention but might be willing to meet a calm friend. This lovely lady would truly Blossom in her new forever home! Daddy Cool – 8 yo. Domestic Short Hair. Daddy Cool is an older tom with a big face and an even bigger heart. Don’t mind his appearance, he’s lived a life of adventure and it shows! He’s very sweet and doesn’t mind meeting new people or being introduced to new environments. He’s more on the snuggle side rather than the play side. I’m LionHearted! I’m confident and self-assured and have no problem showing it! I’m ready to roll, and while I do like my alone time, I also enjoy playing some and snuggling up with a friend. I might be a bit shy at first around new people but I’ll warm up quickly. Heath – 10 yo. American Staffordshire Terrier mix. This handsome guy is Heath! He is a very sweet and curious gentleman with a whole lot of love to give. He is generally a pretty laid back guy but occasionally you get to see his inner child when he gets his spurts of goofy, playful energy! Jenna – 2 yo. American Staffordshire Terrier mix. Meet Jenna! Now that her babies are all taken care of and being adopted, it’s time for this sweet girls chance at a happily ever after. She really enjoys playing outside and walking around a shaded trail. Jenna is good on leash, very friendly and fun (best with no small children yet, as she gets excited and can knock them over). This girl is confident outside, but becomes extremely sensitive to all the noises inside the kennel. Jenna would benefit from a loving, patient family that will allow her to grow and become more confident in all the world has to offer. Pam – 11 yo. Coonhound. Pam is a sweet old girl that was found as a stray! Hard to believe this 11 year old still has got her groove. Pam loves to go for walk and take in all the amazing smells around her. She is great on leash and has amazing manners! Like any golden girl, she is calm, sweet, and would make an amazing addition to your family to live out her years in comfort!

6

Penne – 10 yo. Domestic Short Hair. Penne is a mild mannered old lady who likes to spend her time lounging the day away and sleeping on a lap. She’s not very playful but that doesn’t make her any less sweet and ready to receive affection! I’m the Cat Next Door! While I do like my alone time, I also enjoy sleeping and snuggling up with a friend. I might seem a bit timid, but I’m just a calmer cat! Slinky – 1 yo. American Staffy/Dachshund mix. Say hello to Slinky! He’s a wiggly little guy ready for all the belly rubs! Yeah he’s got really short legs but don’t tell him that. Slinky loves to run around like he’s a racing dog especially when he gets to run with other pups too! This goofy dude is an active and versatile pup that would make a great addition to your family. Spring Roll – 5 mo. Domestic Medium Hair. This cute little firecracker is Spring Roll! Spring Roll is a loving, self-assured, one-eyed 5 month old kitten, who is half the size of his foster brothers. Spring Roll came in as a tiny kitten with a ruptured eyeball and went into foster so that he could heal and gain enough weight to have his bad eye removed. This little ginger boy loves to play with other cats! Tritan – 3 yo. American Staffordshire Terrier. Tritan is 3.5 years old and when he came to McKamey he didn’t know people were nice. He’s learning that now. Tritan has had 2 weeks of obedience training with Good Citizen K9 and his lessons continue daily with volunteers. He knows come, sit, and down. He’s good on a leash after his initial excitement gets out. It’s hard to be in a kennel. Tritan is very loving, but can be a little overwhelming to some, so older kids are probably best. He’s not a great lover of cats. He does love to play with other dogs, but he will want to meet them first as he’s still learning to be a good play friend. His perfect home would be with someone who works from home, so that he can lay on their feet all day. He loves to be with a human. He loves adventures and hiking, but at the end of the day he will love to lay next to his furever person on the couch.

Bullet Points

THE GREAT CALIBER DEBATE

G

OOD DAY, fellow bikers. This past week, Tracy and I rode to Texas to experience the Twisted Sisters (A/K/A Three Sisters). If you have not ridden these three roads north of San Antonio, add it to your bucket list. Comprised of Texas Ranch Roads 335, 336 and 337, the Sisters provides over 100 miles of grins, plenty of technical riding and straightaways where you can see for miles. While different from the beautiful roads in Tennessee and eastern Kentucky, they are quite satisfying, nonetheless. When I hop on my bike for a ride, inevitably I’m carrying one of my pistols with me. It’s second nature. I have a gun safe full of pistols to choose from. And one thing is for certain, I am not as concerned with the caliber as I am my comfort level shooting the pistol in any type of bad situation I might find myself in. And you should feel the same way. Much has been written about what I term the “Great Caliber Debate.” If you were to ask ten different people at a gun show what their favorite caliber is, and why, you would most likely receive several different answers. What you may hear could go something like this, “I want to leave the biggest hole in the bad guy I can.” Don’t fall into this trap. With today’s modern personal protection ammunition, caliber, and the size of the wound channel, are becoming less important than hitting where you’re aiming. Your shot has to find center mass. But there are other considerations. An everyday carry (EDC) pistol is a very personal decision. I have large hands and fairly thick arms. I can absorb a lot of recoil. And because of my size, I can conceal a larger framed pistol without it printing too much through my clothing. If you’re of smaller stature, you should certainly consider a smaller framed pistol that will easily conceal in a belt holster, pocket holster or ankle holster. Avoid pistols which have sharp edges and can easily snag during your draw. If you’re of the fairer sex, and carry a purse, you may want to carry a medium sized pistol which will fit in a segregated area of your purse. You may also want to consider one of the purses which have a special compartment for your handgun. These certainly offer some advantages over carrying concealed in a purse which is not designed for hiding a pistol. Now, let’s discuss caliber. The general rule of thumb is to shoot the largest caliber you can comfortably shoot. I own pistols in many calibers: .380, .38 special, .357 magnum,

May 2019

9mm, .40 Smith & Wesson, .357 SIG, .45 ACP, 44 magnum and 10mm. I can shoot them all comfortably on the range. However, I would not trust myself with the .44 magnum in a high stress situation like a strong-armed robbery. This caliber, while offering a significant amount of “knock down” power, has so much recoil that follow up shots would be tough to make quickly. I also avoid the so called “pocket guns.” I own a Ruger .380 which my hands tend to swallow. While it’s easy to conceal, the pistol is so snappy that I do not shoot as accurately with it. My recommendation is to carry the largest framed pistol you can easily conceal– in the largest caliber you can shoot accurately under pressure. And keep in mind that larger is heavier. You will tire carrying it all day. The answer to the caliber debate is found in improvements in design, metallurgy and testing of bullets. As I wrote earlier, today’s modern self-protection ammunition offers a huge improvement over the hardball, full metal jacket and semi-wad cutter projectiles of the past – making caliber much less important. Full metal jacket projectiles tend to pass completely through the bad guy unless heavy bone structures are hit. The most important consideration of stopping power is the shock the wound channel creates. With old full metal jacket ammo, the wound channel is the size of the bullet - .451 inches if you’re shooting .45 ACP. With a wound channel that size it will take time for the bad guy to become incapacitated – which means he may well be on his feet and coming hard at you after being shot. Today’s personal protection ammunition is designed to quickly expand on impact making very large wound channels and dumping all of the energy of the cartridge (350+ foot pounds of energy in .45 ACP) in the bad guy. Besides the large wound channel, the energy transfer from the projectile creates a huge amount of tissue damage and shock. This is what will quickly incapacitate and eliminate the threat the bad guy poses. The same benefits are realized from personal protection ammo in smaller calibers like 9mm - and even .380 ACP. If you choose your pistol well, it fits your hands and you can shoot it comfortably under stress, any of these calibers will be effective for personal protection. May is one of my favorite months. You can count on your old grey beard biker, and his gal, riding a lot. I hope you do too. Molon labe, Mike Noirot

MAKER’S MARK DISTILLERY

N

ow that we are expanding the Tennessee edition to include Kentucky, why not visit a Kentucky distillery? Maker’s Mark is located at 3350 Burks Spring Road, Loretto, KY, in the heart of an historical area including a train museum and Lincoln’s Birthplace, as well as Bardstown. It is in “the sticks” and reached by some good motorcycle roads. Don’t be fooled by your GPS, as it will turn you at the wrong place, just follow Burks Spring until you go through the Maker’s Mark gate. From a family that had been making whisky since 1780, Bill Samuels, Sr. is said to have wanted to create bourbon that he wanted to drink himself. Seeking a limestone spring water source, he found an abandoned distillery closed down by Prohibition, with a 10 acre, deep, cold spring fed lake. In 1953, because of the lake, Samuels bought the original 200 acre Star Hill Farm for $35,000 and established his brewery. He replaced the rye found in most whisky with red winter wheat, grown in the area, to make it smoother. His wife, Marge, designed the unique shaped bottle, label, mark, and hand dipped wax on top to make it stand out on shop counters. The mark, like that of a silversmith, consists of an S, for Samuels, a star, for Star Hill Farm, and IV, as Samuel, Sr. was the 4th whisky maker, in the family line. They say that Marge makes you buy the first bottle and Bill makes you buy your second. The whisky is aged for at least 5, 9 months and up to 7 years, as unlike most bourbon, Maker’s is aged to taste, not time. It is also still hand rotated in the barrel houses, from top to bottom, with at least 3 summers at the top to insure flavor.

May 2019

Bill Jr. took over the distillery in 1975. For the distillery’s 50th Anniversary, he decided that they needed a special whisky. To the original recipe he added toasted wood staves, inside of the barrel, to give Maker’s Mark 46 a vanilla-cinnamon flavor. When son Rob Samuels took over the reins in 2010, he followed his father’s footsteps and created Private Select. It expands the choice for up to 6 different staves, for a blended flavor, to suit each specific purchaser. The entity purchasing Private Select barrels can taste approve their selection and make it unique. Like Maker’s 46, once the required staves are added, the barrel is aged an additional 6 months in a new Chill Room. Luckily, for those of us who don’t want to purchase a whole designer barrel, Private Select chosen by Bill Samuels, Jr., is available in the gift shop. The product line now includes Maker’s Mark (90 proof), Maker’s Mark 46 (94 proof), and Cask Strength (up to 115.9 proof). Only in the gift shop, you can purchase White, straight for the still and diluted down to 90 proof and Bill Samuel’s Private Select. The campus is beautiful and relaxing. Marge made Bill put a dollar into restoring and improving the grounds for every dollar that he put into the whisky. The improvements continue today. You can take a tour and follow the whisky from distillation to dipping the bottle in wax (including product tasting). You can also purchase an undipped bottle in the gift shop, and dip your own unique way. Sandwiches and salads are available, on site, at the Star Hill Provisions restaurant. Go to makersmark.com for tour info. Ride Safe and Have Fun!! Cooper

DODGING THE ROADKILL

THE PEOPLE I MEET

T

By Hank Bonecutter

he one recurring theme that runs through this blog is the people I meet. Since the first time I threw my legs over a motorcycle, people came into my life that I would have never met without it. My recent trip to Texas was no different. We started with 7 motorcycles and 8 people. From the starting point, I immediately met two veterans who were joining us. Once we reached our destination, I met two more, and our “group” was set. I’ve been blessed to ride with, and become friends with, first responders, veterans, mothers, sisters, and businessmen. They don’t want anything from me. They just want to ride. I didn’t serve in the military so I don’t have any idea what that brotherhood is about, but I can assure you, just watching them together sharing stories of the “old days” is a real blessing. When you get to hear stories from their service, you realize that there’s NO WAY you could ever repay them. You also realize that without hesitation, they would do it all again. The logistics of the group ride is unique. You’re riding with people you’ve never ridden with, so the “learning curve” is important to get to know your partners to ride as safely as possible. That means I have to be at my best as well. Our lives may depend on it! When we’re done riding for the day, we settle down with a meal, or maybe over a couple of beers, but that’s when we really get to know each other. Our down time is spent with each other. Along the way, I meet random people at gas stations, convenience stores, restaurants and hotel lobbies. Even the owner of a donut shop. I even met three bikers from North Dakota. I’ve NEVER met anyone from North Dakota, but there they were, on motorcycles,

May 2019

riding the Texas hill country. People are drawn to the motorcycle. Their eyes light up. It starts conversations with people I would have never met without it. Some of them share their stories of when they used to ride and can no longer enjoy the experience. They’re my favorites! I traveled with some special women this week. The Sgt. Major’s wife who rides a motorcycle as good if not BETTER than most men I know. The blind girl who is an artist and painter and who proves to EACH of us that there’s NOTHING that can hold us back if we put our minds to it. She’s a true testament to the human spirit! Finally, the chance to visit friends who live in Texas. A man who has been a real life mentor to me and has survived the living hell that IS cancer. I’m proud of my career, but I quickly learn that in the ‘REAL” world, there are people who sacrificed and suffered for me. Who face each day with disabilities. Who survived life threatening illness or injury, and through it all, this motorcycle has brought us together. Brothers and sisters! This journey I’m on reaffirms to me that regardless of the life path you’ve chosen, be grateful for the people God puts in your path. They’re there for a reason. Hold them close and be honored by them. I wouldn’t change a thing. Read my other stories from this trip at www.clarksvillemotorcycle.com

Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots of Tennessee: When you travel overseas to third world countries you get the opportunity to see how other governments work, the lifestyle of the people in those countries and can compare the differences between the good ol’ USA and countries very different from ours. Ever wonder how some countries have Presidents, kings or supreme leaders who dominate their country for decades or for life? Almost all third world countries have a form of socialism or communism for an economy, operate under harsh laws/regulations and personal freedom is severely restricted. Some countries create tourists areas to hide the reality and capture tourist money. That money is rarely shared with the people who suffer poor education, few jobs and extreme poverty. In these countries the laws are generally put in place by powerful people in to benefit the powerful people. These laws actually insure a level of lawlessness that keeps the powerful protected from the injustices that are born by the majority of the citizens and muffles the voice of the people. When you travel to other countries and get out of the tourist areas you see what it’s really like to live there and you begin to understand how special the United States is. Our constitution protects us from government oppression, gives us the ability to protect ourselves and fosters an economy based on individual creativity and effort. The United States is an open opportunity for all legal citizens. I raise this because it feels like our nation is teetering on the fence between capitalism and socialism/communism. We have politicians and groups in favor of open borders, allowing illegal aliens to vote and giving them our tax money in the form of benefits without requiring them to become citizens. They have turned the media into a socialism propaganda machine. They fracture us into groups and pit each group against the other with charges of racism, wealth inequity, special privileges and lies. They want to do away the United States Constitution and the bill of rights. They want to take money away from working people who have money and give it to people who have no inclination to go out and work for their own money. They

use political correctness and indoctrination in schools and colleges to keep us from questioning their actions and turn us into sheep who will just go along with the removal of our freedoms and liberties. Insight into how far they’ve gone is the war on our current President. The last administration used our nation’s intelligence agencies, the justice department, foreign intelligences, law enforcement and the media to insure victory for Hillary Clinton and continue transforming our nation into a socialist country. Trump won and derailed their train. The Mueller investigation hired a team of Hillary supporters and was supposed to put the socialist train back on the rails. There was no “Collusion” so they took two years to smear Trump and then the final report was written to let Democrats continue to smear the President until the 2020 election. Trump supports the constitution and Democrats work overtime to undermine it. This attempted coup is biggest attempt to overthrow our constitution since the founding. Our only hope is for the new Attorney General to conduct a thorough investigation of what went on and punish those behind the coup. If that doesn’t happen we’re just another third world country on its way to becoming a large Venezuela. Study Venezuela if you want to see where this could end up for your children and grandchildren. If an innocent President can be removed by these people our elections will be meaningless. Our voice will be lost. If we elect someone the socialist don’t like they’ll pull out their playbook, throw him or her out and put their socialist choice in office. Welcome to the third world. After a little time passes it will be illegal to be a constitutionalist, capitalist or a Christian. It’s already happening in public schools and universities. After a time it will be okay to jail or execute those who disagree with socialism and those in power. This is what goes on in many socialist countries around the world all the time. Think about those service members who have died to protect your freedom and stand strong!!! Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. BOBABROSA FLOOD RELIEF RUN O

By Indian Rider Bill

n March 23rd, several hundred riders from as far as Kentucky and North Carolina converged on Bobarosa Saloon in Del Rio, Tennessee to support their flood relief effort. Back in December of 2018, the saloon suffered massive flooding as a result of unprecedented rainfall. The saloon had picnic tables, wooden decks, coolers and other critical pieces of property washed away. And the interior of the pool room and bar was submerged under a foot of water. Ten departure points, to rally riders, were identified to begin the procession to Bobarosa. I rode in with the dozens of other riders from Corn Pone Tavern. As we approached Bobarosa, it was evident that the word had gotten out and that riders were there to support them. Bike parking went deep into the campground area and at times bike traffic backed up the main road leading in as bikes had to wait to park. It was an impressive site to see several hundred bikes and almost double that amount of riders at the saloon. Riders were welcomed with the usual staff hospitality and were treated to a pulled pork lunch, live music, 50/50 drawings and an

incredible display of Americana as the Vietnam Veterans MC of Telford, held a ceremonial flag raising. Saving the best for last, Bobarosa now has a brand new look. The interior is updated with new metal siding, freshly painted to match the pavilion; it has new tables, new chairs, a new rug and revamped pool tables. And did I mention they have a new menu too! You can now enjoy oysters and fish as well as their famous fried baloney sandwich. Good, just got great! Outside there are over a dozen new picnic tables, more bike parking and, are you ready for this, a beach! Yes, Del Rio has its own beach now. While not actually leading to the water, you can still bring your flip flops and play a game of horseshoes or corn hole after a good days ride. And what beach isn’t a beach without Pink Flamingo’s? Yep, they’ve got them too- (Bob’s signature touch). Thunder Roads Tennessee/Kentucky was honored to play a major role in the relief run development, advertising, coordination, and execution of the relief effort. As Bobarosa Saloon turns a new fresh page as Tennessee’s total biker destination, we wish them well.

elcome to our season long Tennessee Distillery Expose. Of the many riches Tennessee has, vast agriculture, mountains and their lore, its valleys, streams and abundant wildlife, one of its original riches is Moonshine. It’s hard to actually pin point when moonshine came to be in Tennessee, but it’s said that the roots of “white lightening” are traced as far back as the late 1700’s. As you can imagine we could write volumes about its origin and its history here in TN, but instead we’re going to focus on its current day magnificence. Over the course of the next few months we’ll highlight distilleries that have crafted new exciting flavors and refined their technique while still keeping true to moonshines original recipe (corn, sugar, yeast and water). First on our list is End of The Line Moonshine, distilled and bottled by Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary in Petros, TN. Yes, it’s distilled on the grounds of a former State Pen. End of The Line was a term that maximum security prisoners’ of Brushy would be greeted with upon their delivery to the prison. For them, it was the End of The Line. Today, Brushy welcomes tourists who come to tour the prison and its associated museum, restaurant and gift shop. End of The Line comes in 9 incredible flavors, Cinnamon, Blackberry and Butterscotch to name a few. And new for this season, bottled coal! Yes, coal mined

S

econd up on our list is Old Tennessee Distilling Co. in Kodak, TN. Old Tennessee is one of those distilleries that has a rich history of refining their craft and has expanded their product line to include Gin, Vodka, Rum and Whiskey. Frankly, they’re one of only a few that has developed such an extensive spirit portfolio. Immediately upon entering the showroom, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the huge selection of moonshine on the shelves. With over a dozen flavors, Watermelon Falls, Apple Pie, Banana Shine and so on, bottled in old style flare, the sight creates a veritable rainbow of moonshine goodness. Looking past the moonshine racks you’ll see the distillation vat. A huge stainless steel vessel connected by authentic copper piping to a maze of other cooking equipment. And adjacent to it is the bottling operation. Again, Old Tennessee’s uniqueness is that its entire operation is inside of the same room as its product line. What you see is what you get. Not to be outdone by the moonshine on display, Old Tennessee has its own tribute to the days of the original Thunder Road- the road that shine runners would take to evade the Federal Tax Revenuers as they delivered their moonshine in and around Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina and Georgia. On an entire wall, you’ll find an actual car trunk filled with wood cases stamped XXX to signify its contents as well as

from the prisons property is packed into moonshine bottles, minus the shine of course. Talk about a perfect stocking stuffer! End of The Line’s Master Distiller, Bobby Laymance, a native of Petros, TN remembers when Brushy was a prison that held notorious murderers such as James Earl Ray, and countless others. And now he’s running the distilling operation-something he thought he’d never do. I met with him recently and he gave me an in-depth tour of the distilling operation as well as the state of the art bottling and storage facility. Among all the stainless steel “cooking vats”, the high tech bottling machinery, and shelves of shine, his humble professionalism is what makes End of The Line what it is today. Like all distillers, it becomes a passion. His dedication to the entire process is summed up in his own words, “I don’t own this place, but I treat it like it’s mine”. As they say around here, let me tell you what, it is his. While a relatively new venture, End of The Line has quickly expanded its flavors and its packaging. Why is packaging important? Because they now have biker-friendly to go boxes that fit perfectly in saddle bags, hard bags or trunk racks. The boxes hold three bottles, buy two and get the third half price. And they just came out with a mini bottle six pack sampler. Again perfect for stashing in a side bag. Brushy is smack dab on TN 116 and its Devils Triangle Ride. It’s also within an hour of the famous Tail of The Dragon and numerous other great rides. Stop by Brushy, taste some End of The Line and say hi to Bobby. www.tourbrushy.com

other memorabilia from the 1958 hit movie, Thunder Road, staring Robert Mitchum. In the center of the distillery, you’ll find a massive bar where you can ease up to get a FREE sample of their unique brand, and staff are more than happy to tell you all about the process of developing each flavor as you sip its silky rich history. Old Tennessee is not a hit and run visit by any means. From the Thunder Road exhibit, the tasting bar to the pictorial history of moonshine lore, prohibition and moonshines current day romantic resurrection, and a one of a kind gift shop, you’ll need to make time to soak it all in. Tell em that you saw their story in our magazine and get a discount on gift shop items! The distillery is within minutes of 235 miles of fantastic motorcycle riding around Douglas Lake and the Cherokee Reservoir. And as if the distillery itself isn’t enough for you, it’s a short walk to Smokey Mountain Harley-Davidson’s Kodak outlet and a huge Bass Pro Shop. www.oldtennesseedistillingco.com Please pick up our next few issues of Thunder Roads Tennessee/ Kentucky for more exclusive articles on TN Moonshine and Whiskey Distilleries. NCOM BIKER NEWSBYTES Compiled & Edited by Bill Bish, National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM)

THE AIM/NCOM MOTORCYCLE E-NEWS SERVICE is brought to you by Aid to Injured Motorcyclists (A.I.M.) and the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM), and is sponsored by the Law Offices of Richard M. Lester. If you’ve been involved in any kind of accident, call us at 1-(800) ON-A-BIKE or visit www.ON-A-BIKE.com. FEDERAL ANTI-PROFILING RESOLUTION INTRODUCED IN U.S. HOUSE Last December, the United States Senate passed a nonbinding resolution by unanimous consent calling for an end to the discriminatory profiling of motorcyclists by law enforcement, and now the U.S. House of Representatives has introduced an identical bipartisan measure in the 116th Congress, H.Res.255; “Promoting awareness of motorcycle profiling and encouraging collaboration and communication with the motorcycle community and law enforcement officials to prevent instances of profiling.” Sponsored by Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI), the anti-profiling resolution was introduced in the House on March 26 to thwart ”the illegal use of the fact that a person rides a motorcycle or wears motorcycle related apparel as a factor in deciding to stop and question, take enforcement action, arrest, or search a person or vehicle with or without legal basis under the Constitution of the United States,” as profiling is defined in the resolution’s text. “Michigan has a strong and vibrant riding community, myself included, that use motorcycles as a source of recreation and transportation,” Walberg said in a statement. “Making sure riders are free from profiling coincides with motorcyclists’ appreciation for our law enforcement community. I’m proud to work with Rep. Burgess on this effort to foster a greater understanding of the issue of motorcycle profiling and ensure our roads and highways are safe for all to enjoy.” Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) is one of three original cosponsors, among 12 cosponsors from both sides of the aisle, and said that with Texas being home to thousands of motorcyclists, he is committed to advocating for riders both on and off the road. Walberg and Burgess are also co-chairs of the Congressional Motorcycle Caucus which aims to improve public knowledge of motorcycle issues, promote safety on the roadways, and encourage Americans to enjoy responsible motorcycle riding. All motorcyclists are encouraged to contact your Congressional Representative and ask that they join their colleagues as a cosponsor of H.Res.255 and help put a stop to law enforcement unfairly targeting motorcycle riders for traffic stops, questioning and citations. TWIN PEAKS UPDATE --- PROSECUTIONS UNRAVEL It was portrayed in the national press as a gang war shootout at a family restaurant on the edge of a shopping center in Waco, Texas on May 17, 2015, leaving nine bikers dead and more than 20 wounded. 30

Nearly two hundred bikers were incarcerated in the aftermath of that deadly melee involving police who had surrounded motorcycle club members attending a regularly scheduled Texas Confederation of Clubs and Independents meeting at the Twin Peaks restaurant, raining down a hail of police gunfire. From the start, lawyers and others pointed out that it was very unlikely indeed that all the 177 arrested had committed any crimes at all, and that the initial $1 million bond set for each of them charged with a blanket crime of "engaging in organized criminal activity" seemed unreasonably punitive. The police strove in the aftermath to keep a detailed account of what actually happened from reaching the public eye, or that of defense attorneys. Over the next four years, as the cases began moving into the courtroom one-by-one, they each began to fall apart until ultimately only two dozen remained indicted, with not a single successful prosecution to date. The first and only case to go to trial ended in a hung jury and mistrial in November 2017. McClennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna, the D.A. at the time of the arrests, lost re-election last year, and before leaving office he "dismissed the vast majority of the 154 pending indictments his office sought in the Twin Peaks shootout," according to the Tribune newspaper. On April 2, 2019, newly-elected D.A. Barry Johnson announced that his office has chosen not to prosecute the remaining 24 cases, calling the way the former D.A.’s office handled the situation “a harebrained scheme” that was “patently offensive.” “This is a difficult decision which must be made based on the existing facts and evidence in accordance with the laws of this state and in the interest of justice,” stated Johnson. McLennan County reports that the shootout has run up $1,317,835.96 in total identifiable costs, with nothing so far to show for it, and all the while realizing the final cost is not yet calculated for the defendants and in some cases may never be. Many of those bikers who’ve had charges eventually dropped, after spending months in jail on million dollar bonds, have subsequently filed civil rights suits, and as of January there were 133 federal lawsuits naming McLennan County, Waco police, the district attorney, the sheriff, police chief and individual officers, charging violations against the 4th and 14th Amendment Constitutional guarantees, plus a number of other civil rights violations. Texas AIM Attorney Bill Smith will be presenting an update on the Waco situation during the Confederation of Clubs Patch Holders Meeting at the upcoming NCOM Convention in Orlando, Florida, Mother's Day Weekend May 10-12, 2019 at the Doubletree by Hilton - Universal Orlando. MONGOLS CASE STILL PRESENTS A THREAT DESPITE PATCH VICTORY “The recent decision by Judge David Carter in US v. Mongol Nation that the First and Eighth Amendments to the US Constitution prohibits the government’s request to seize the collective membership marks of the Mongols MC, including their club name patch and center-patch, is a victory for all,” writes Kit Maira of Easyriders Magazine in his Biker’s Rights

blog. But, he adds; “Beyond the issues of forfeiture, a brandnew strategy to target motorcycle clubs under RICO has been born and legally confirmed. The idea that a motorcycle club can be indicted under RICO as an entity, regardless of other members’ personal guilt, should equally alarm everyone.” Although the government can’t take a club’s patch, they can seize a club’s property and impose huge fines, he explains, noting that while federal law enforcement spent more than a decade on a failed mission to take away the Mongols’ collective membership marks, their property and patches, they stumbled upon a new theory of prosecution; “determining guilt for an association.” What element is required to find an association guilty of RICO? An implied connection to leadership is apparently enough. Judge Carter argues that Congress may constitutionally impose criminal liability upon an entity for acts of its agents, even though it’s not necessary for the government to prove that the act was authorized by the entity – thereby setting a very low threshold of proof to establish that an act was committed “at the implied direction of leadership.” “The Mongol Nation is guilty of substantive RICO and RICO conspiracy,” determined the judge, going on to proclaim that, “The criminal organization is subject to sentencing fines and criminal forfeiture consistent with this Order,” the extent of which will be determined at a sentencing hearing in late April. “There is no way to predict what the federal government will do moving forward with the newfound strategy of targeting a motorcycle club as an entity under RICO, but there are empirical reasons to believe that whatever strategy authorities employ will not advance civil liberties,’ writes Maira, concluding that; “The Constitution does not seem to be a barrier in the decision-making calculus of authorities’ intent on targeting motorcycle clubs.” 'LANE FILTERING' NOW LEGAL IN UTAH Utah legislators have endorsed lane splitting, or "lane filtering" as it is referred to in HB149, signed into law by Governor Gary Herbert on March 21, making the Beehive State the second behind California to legalize "filtering" through lanes of traffic. The Utah Lane Filtering Bill does not allow lane filtering on May 2019

freeways, and only on roads where the posted speed limit of 45 mph or less. Also, the motorcycle can only filter through stopped traffic at 15 mph or less -- different from California’s lane splitting law that allows riders to pass moving traffic. The bill was sponsored by State Rep. Walt Brooks (R-St. George), whom the Salt Lake Tribune reported was rear-ended twice, prompting the 'safety' measure. The newspaper further reported that between 2011 and 2017, there were 1,288 incidents of a motorcycle getting rear-ended in Utah. The bill takes effect May 14, 2019 but contains provisions for the law to expire on July 1, 2022 if the legislature takes no action to extend it. 48 U.S. states, Canada, and a few other countries prohibit motorcyclists from traversing lanes of cars in slow or stopped traffic, though it is common practice throughout Europe and Asia. The only other state currently considering lane splitting for motorcycles is Oregon, HB2314, which like California would allow lane spitting on freeways. NEW YORK CITY TO IMPLEMENT CONGESTION TOLL On March 31, 2019, New York state lawmakers approved a first-in-the-nation plan to implement congestion pricing in the busiest parts of New York City, hoping that this new toll will ease traffic congestion during the busiest parts of the day by encouraging people to take mass transit instead of driving a car or, apparently, riding motorcycles. The price has not yet been set, but a trip to lower Manhattan during peak hours may cost $10, and there are no exemptions for any other type of vehicle, though low-income or disabled drivers may be exempt. The city plans to use the revenue to repair their subway system. These tolls will not go into effect until 2021, so now is the time, New Yorkers, to start making noise to have motorcycles exempted from this toll. STUFFED GARLIC BUTTER, GRAPE TOMATOES & MOZZARELLA PORTABELLO SHROOMS’

Shrooms: 5-6 X-Large Portobello Mushrooms (if you need to make more just double up on the ingredients) stems removed, washed gently and dried completely with a paper towel. Get all up in shroom to dry thoroughly. 5-6 Fresh Mozzarella Balls (Laughing Cow brand is a good go-to) sliced thin but not too thin. Splurge for the real deal Mozzarella as it makes all the diff in the world. 1 Cup of Grape Tomatoes (in produce dept.) If don’t see just ask store clerk. Slice them thin but not too thin, just like cheese. Fresh Basil to Garnish - Standardly I’d say just go w/ bottled Basil but not for these, ya’ gotta have fresh and ya’ gotta shred cut it so there’s thin strands. Garlic Butter: 4 Heaping Tablespoons of Real Butter 2 Tablespoons Chopped Garlic (can buy in produce section in a glass bottle already chopped) Make sure you do a straight across measuring in the Tablespoon, do not overload. 2 Heaping Tablespoons of Parsley 1/2 Cup of Quality Balsamic Vinegar - This you simply put in a small saucepan and over high heat at first until slight boil, then simmer to let it reduce down, stirring regularly for about 10 minutes until it is actually thick like a glaze. Preheat oven to Grill/Broil setting on highest heat. Place oven shelf directly in the middle of oven. Combine all the Garlic Butter ingredients together ibn a small saucepan over medium heat and melt butter garlic mix down completely. Take a clean small paint brush or pastry brush and brush the bottoms of each mushroom and place them buttered side down on a baking sheet. Use all remaining garlic butter mixture to brush the inside of mushrooms. Fill each shroom with mozzarella slices and tomatoes and broil until cheese has melted and golden in color; about 8 minutes. Sprinkle w/ fresh cut ribbon Basil. Drizzle Balsamic glaze up and down each mushroom cap and serve piping hot. These are Phenomenal! Made them last night and then another tray of them. Delicioso.... & Fresh!

SUPER E-Z SRIRACHA HONEY CHICKEN WINGS IN CROCK POT These literally make themselves! 4 lbs. frozen chicken wing drumettes 1 Cup Sriracha Sauce (in Mexican food @ grocery) 1 Cup of Quality Honey 4 Tablespoons of Real Butter 1/4 Cup of Lime Juice In 5 quart crock pot on low, add Sriracha sauce, butter, honey & lime juice, stir, then add chix wings. Stir again to coat wings really good. Cook on High for 2-3 hours (or on Low for 4-6 hours until wings are cooked through completely. Remove wings to a plate and transfer all sauce to a medium saucepan to cook over medium-high heat and boil it until it reduces to a thicker sauce, about 8 minutes. Stir as needed so sauce doesn’t burn. Take wings and place on a baking sheet lined with foil. Drizzle Sriracha honey sauce over wings and turn until saturated. Set oven to Broil. Place wings in oven and broil for about 3 minutes until sauce starts to slightly caramelize. Remove from oven. Coat wings with sauce again, broil for 1 minute more. Repeat this step again and then again but on this last time, let them stay under broiler until they are caramelized all over as much as you want. Remove to a serving platter but give individual small bowls of Ranch dressing or Bleu Cheese dressing that is super cold from fridge. You’re going to be making these a lot this summer as sooo easy and just so dang good! Yummers. Serve with the Shrooms recipe and you’ve got one helluva meal, baby!
