ell Spring is definitely here, the sun’s hanging around longer, and we know you’re itching to get riding… if you haven’t already! There are so many events happening around our great state that you won’t have a problem finding something to do. Spring has sprung and there are events galore! If you’re looking for something special to do Memorial Day weekend you should consider attending the 21st Annual Smoky Mountain Thunder Memorial Ride in Sevierville, TN on the 30th. If you’ve never attended this event you don’t know what you’re missing, it is amazing! Thousands of bikes gather at the Courthouse in downtown Sevierville for the opening ceremony at 10am. This year’s theme is “Remembering All Those Who Gave”. The ceremony consists of Patriotic singing, guest speakers, placing a wreath at the Veteran’s Monument and Taps marks the beginning of the event. The police escorted 65 mile ride leaves, rain or shine, at 11am. There are NO FEES for this ride! Once all of the motorcycles have arrived at Veteran’s Overlook on top of Clinch Mountain, the closing ceremony begins. Patriotic music, placing of the wreath, 21 Gun Salute followed by Taps concludes the event. Come early and have coffee and breakfast at Graze Burgers beginning at 8am. This is one of the greatest tributes to our Fallen Military, so come join us to remember those who paid the Ultimate Price for our Freedom! LYNNVILLE, TENNESSEE
L
ynnville, named for the nearby Lynn Creek, which in turn, was named for the Lynn or Linden trees growing on its banks, is a popular stop for bikers. Located in Giles County, this town of 287, per the 2010 census, dates back to the early 1800’s and boasts 59 Historic Register sites. Actually, this is the “New Lynnville” as the original town (now called “Waco”} was raided and burned by Federal troops during the Civil War and the town was rebuilt a few miles away where the recently built railroad passed through. Of more importance to the biker community is its good food, a distillery and shopping for the ladies.

Be sure to climb up in the 1927 Baldwin Locomotive, caboose and train cars at the train museum across the street from Soda Pop Junction. Also, there is a City Hall Courtyard with a covered small garden and public restrooms at the right end of the row of shops for a quiet rest.

I wasn’t in a position to buy a new one at the time, so I had to wait until one was traded in 4 years later to get my dream bike! My oldest granddaughter Abigayl has claimed it and swears she will ride it when she’s 12! I let her name it since it’s going to be hers one day. I bought Jolene for my birthday in February of 2020 and the day after, I found out I had to have open heart surgery to replace my mitral valve, so sadly I only put a couple hundred miles on her the first year. I had surgery at the end of 2020 and I plan on making up for the lack of miles put on her the first year now that I feel better! I still have my first Harley, a 2002 Fatboy that I plan on giving to my middle granddaughter, Whitleigh Jo whose 4 even though Abigayl has claimed it too! My husband Jamie has a few H-D’s so I’ll have to give one of his to my youngest granddaughter Elizabeth, or who knows, I might find another one I just have to have! SHOTGUNS FOR HOME DEFENSE

e’ve probably all heard at one time or another that a
shotgun is “the best gun for home defense”. A shotgun IS a great home defense weapon, not necessarily your Grampa’s old rabbit gun, but a proper fighting shotgun. Combat Shotguns usually have barrels shorter than 20 inches and hold more than 5 rounds. There are also a lot of myths about shotguns. We will try to dispel two of the biggest myths. Myth 1. “All you have to do is rack the slide of a shotgun and the bad guys go running”. The first problem with this is if you are close enough for a bad guy to hear you rack the slide, you have already walked into a potentially bad situation with an unloaded gun. The next problem is, does the person that just invaded your house know what that sound is? When I was a kid, most people I knew had experienced a pump shotgun before we were finished with single digit birthdays. Nowadays, they aren’t as popular as they once were, especially with the nefarious crowd so the bad guy on the other side of your door may have never actually heard a pump shotgun cycled. The other problem is, if someone invaded your home to steal for drug money, they may hear it and know what it is, but in a chemically altered state, still not care. Myth 2. “You just point it down the hallway and pull the trigger, you don’t even have to aim it”. Nothing could be further from the truth, in fact, shotguns are actually one of the hardest types of guns to shoot accurately. Some of them don’t even have sights, so you aim (yes, you must aim a shotgun to hit what you are shooting at) by looking down the barrel. This takes a lot of practice to get good at. You also can’t hold a shotgun at your hip and shoot it accurately, even if Arnold Schwarzenegger can, you still can’t. Some think the shot spread will cover a wide enough area so they don’t have to aim, there are several studies on shot spread at 21 feet. Even with the best defensive rounds, the shot spread at 21 feet (about the length of a hallway) can usually be covered by your opened hand. Now with that out of the way, Shotguns are hard to shoot accurately, slow to load, don’t hold many rounds at all, and they kick hard making follow-up shots more difficult. In spite of all of these shortcomings, if you are willing to train with them they are still great home defense weapons. If you plan
to use a shotgun for home defense, you should practice a lot, and not just standing and shooting at paper targets, you should shoot them from every position you can think of under all kinds of circumstances just as you should with any home defense weapon. Also there are many add-ons for shotguns, they don’t have to look like a decorated Christmas tree, but there are a few that most consider essential. A recoil reducing stock or pad. This not only makes follow-up shots faster, but makes training more enjoyable. A shell carrier, as covered before, shotguns hold very few rounds from a defensive weapon standpoint, so having more ammunition readily available and practicing reloads is vital. A sling, a shotgun is a long gun, and a sling is a good idea on any defensive long gun. A sling is a way to carry the shotgun, if your hands are busy doing something else important you won’t have to put your shotgun down, it’s no good to you or could possibly be used against you if you don’t have it with you. Not to get into defensive tactics, but examples are if you need to move something heavy as a barricade, render medical aid, or carry a loved one to safety. Most also agree a white light should be attached to any home defense gun or kept next to it. A white light on a weapon is not for looking around, and all the reasons to not have a light (they can see me coming, it gives away my position, all great reasons on a battlefield) are outweighed by the single biggest reason to have one for a home defense situation, target identification. Always be sure what you are shooting, and what’s behind it. Make sure you are not aiming at the 16 year old neighbor kid who just discovered alcohol and wandered into the wrong house.

“THE ROAD TO EASTER” Before we start our “Road to Easter,” we need to know where the word “Easter” came from. Many years after the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, there was a Roman emperor named Constantine who became a Christian and declared Christianity the religion of the state. Constantine wanted to declare a holiday for the resurrection of Jesus Christ in the Springtime, but he had to deal with other Romans who still worshipped the pagan gods from Babylon. One such goddess had the name “Eastar.” She was the fertility goddess, pertaining to sex, there was a statue of her with a rabbit at her feet, because the rabbit was also a symbol of fertility. To appease the other Romans that worshipped the pagan goddess, Constantine took the name of “Eastar” and called it Easter, now you also know where the “Easter bunny” came from. Now let’s take a look at the steps on the “Road to Easter,” 1st is Salvation; You must be born again! 2nd is Gethsemane; where Jesus was in such agony, that He sweat great drops of blood. 3rd is the whipping post; where Jesus was beat almost to death. 4th is the crucifixion; where Jesus was nailed to the cross. 5th is the Resurrection; where Jesus arose from the dead Where are you at on your “Road to Easter”? Most Christians today just stay at “Salvation” never growing up spiritually because they can’t handle trials, tribulations, and persecutions. Philp. 1:29 “For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on Him, but to suffer for His sake.”

This is where many Christians fail, we must be faithful to attend the House of God. Inside God’s word is every weapon you need to have victory in your walk with God. The word of God will keep you strong in these battles with the evil one. When the squeeze is on, whatever is in you is what comes out of you.

Dear Fellow Veterans and Patriots: When I was in the Army Infantry and we were in a situation where we were subject to attack, we used our “entrenching tool”, basically a small shovel that could be folded to fit in our back pack, to dig a trench or hole in the ground to help protect us. These holes were termed “fighting positions.” If we were going to be in that spot for a short term the hole was small and not more than a hole. We continued to make the hole better the longer we were there. Over time we made the hole deeper and larger, added overhead cover to block the sun, timbers to absorb shrapnel, made openings we could shoot through, cleared brush to allow better visibility of what was in front of us and installed stakes to limit where we could shoot to insure all of the fighting positions could overlap fire to make a wall of bullets that would be hard to run through. As I write this the Marxists in Congress, who are doing everything in their power to take permanent control of our country, are preparing to file legislation to increase the number of justices on the supreme court. Can you imagine what 4 or 5 new justices added to the court while the Marxists control the Senate and the Legislature and the Presidency means for our future? All will be Marxist cancel culture anti-constitutional zealots willing to undermine our constitutional freedoms and liberty. We will be under a relentless attack by Marxist politicians, their billionaire corporate supporters and the propaganda media. What they put forward will surely be fought by constitution supporting politicians and organizations through the court system and these attacks will end up going to the supreme court for determination. A Marxist controlled Supreme Court will certainly not make decisions that support “We the people.” In other words, our nation and the constitution of the United States are under attack!! Where is our fighting position??? Where do we dig a hole to fight from?? What weapons do we have to stop this assault on everything that has made our nation great and given us our liberty and lifestyle??? Who are our allies? Can we count on the Republican party to stand with us or will many Republicans turn tail and run to the rear or surrender to the enemy?? You only have to look at Mitt Romney, Susan Collins and Mitch McConnell to know Republicans have weaknesses. As our southern border is being overrun with illegal invaders who is stopping them?? Nobody!! Republicans talk tough but nobody is willing to take real action to keep illegals from crossing the border. Why isn’t Texas protecting their state territory? Why are they letting the federal government keep the door open to invaders? Shouldn’t Texas activate the Texas national guard and law enforcement to secure the Texas border? What about Arizona, New Mexico and California? Well on second thought forget California, it’s lost to the invasion. Will Tennessee and Kentucky allow the federal government to fly illegal invaders to our states and make us pay the bill for their food, housing and medical treatment? Will Tennessee and Kentucky courts give lenient punishment to illegals who commit crimes in the state? Have you budgeted for these expenses? I
haven’t. The share of the national debt is $85,273 per U.S. citizen and if you are a tax payer you are the one who will pay the bill! It will cost every tax payer $224,748. Did you know you had that much debt?? That is your share of the 28 trillion-dollar national debt, not to be confused with the total U.S. debt of almost 86 trillion dollars. Will Tennessee and Kentucky employ their national guard troops and law enforcement to protect us from federal incursion? Will they stop the feds from crossing into the states to confiscate firearms or to arrest people who voted for Republicans? Will our state politicians institute state laws like Florida has done to stop the Marxist social pronouncements that allow men to participate in girls’ sports? Will they keep corporations from discriminating against those who don’t take the corona vaccine? If the state just rolls out the door mat for the feds, what will you do? Will you exercise your second amendment after the packed supreme court erases the second amendment? Will you continue to give your money to corporations paying Marxist anarchists, engineering elections and working against conservative states? Where will you dig your fighting position? Will you lay down and submit to being road kill or will you go down in a fight? What will you say to your children and grandchildren? How will you convince them that it was okay to trade freedom for slavery to a totalitarian state? Are you prepared to protect yourself in these times of rising crime and murder? What if they take your guns and ammo? Are you good with an axe handle or a sharp knife? Where is your entrenching tool to dig your fighting position?? Happy Cinco de Mayo!! I understand your wanting a margarita but why are you celebrating the May 5, 1862 Battle of Puebla where the Mexican Army defeated the French? I guess it’s okay to celebrate but keep digging!!! Keep the faith. Thank a vet for the freedoms we still enjoy and support politicians who will bring back the ones we’ve lost. Fly the flag of the people and be proud you’re an American. Hug the families of those still missing because their quest for closure has not ended. Live the good life and ride for those who can’t. NCOM CONVENTION IN DES MOINES WELCOMES RIDERS NATIONWIDE The 36th annual NCOM Convention is right around the corner, so plan now to be a part of one of the largest gatherings of motorcycle rights activists in the world. This year’s NCOM Convention, to be held JULY 23-25, 2021 at the Holiday Inn Des Moines - Airport, located at 6111 Fleur Drive in Des Moines, Iowa (515-287-2400), will draw hundreds of concerned motorcyclists to America's Heartland to address topics of concern to all riders. All motorcyclists are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the many meetings, seminars and group discussions that focus on legislative efforts and litigation techniques to protect our riders’ rights and preserve Freedom of the Road. FEDERAL HIGHWAY BILL PRIORITIES In recent years, our nationwide biker community has worked diligently with Congress to include several key motorcycle-friendly provisions in the federal highway bill that died last session; H.R.2 “Moving Forward Act,” including further prohibitions against motorcycle-only checkpoints, expanding anti-biker profiling restrictions based on mode of transportation or style of dress, and furthering riders’ future advisory role with Congress to ensure our voices are heard when determining traffic and transportation laws, as well as advancing safety funding and autonomous vehicles protections. Because H.R. 2 failed to pass, our lobbying efforts will need to be redoubled in the U.S. House and Senate once a new transportation measure is introduced in the 117th United States Congress, which now has an extended deadline of September 2021. The Biden Administration may utilize a new highway reauthorization bill to pass a massive infrastructure spending plan, hoping to authorize some $2.25 trillion on such items as road construction, mass transit, passenger and freight rail, airports and electric vehicles, with more than a trillion-and-a-half going toward expanding broadband, improving the electric grid, and a growing wish list of additional items. As Congress begins deliberations on the package of transportation and infrastructure spending, it will once again fall on motorcyclists to ensure that riders’ priorities are included in the “Wish List” as this 2021 version of the highway bill develops.

MOTORCYCLIST ADVISORY COUNCIL BILL IN CONGRESS A bipartisan group of U.S. Representatives has introduced a bill to reauthorize the Motorcyclist Advisory Council, a committee comprised largely of motorcycle riders established to advise Congress and the Department of Transportation on matters involving motorcycle safety, and make recommendations regarding infrastructure issues such as road design, traffic issues, and intelligent transportation systems. H.R. 2141, introduced March 23, 2021 by Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), would reauthorize the MAC for six years; require biennial reports; clarify that specific seats on the 12-member board would be occupied by motorcycle riders and advocates. If Congress doesn’t take action prior to the September 30, 2021 deadline, the MAC is set to expire and will be disbanded, so contact your Congressional representatives today and ask them to cosponsor and support H.R. 2141. RPM ACT NEEDED TO SAVE MOTORSPORTS If you have made modifications to your car or motorcycle, or have an interest in motorsports and racing, you could be impacted by the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act, which was first drafted up after the EPA's Clean Air Act (CAA) in 2015 sought to make the conversion of production vehicles for “dedicated racing” illegal. Despite bipartisan support in Congress, the RPM Act has failed to pass, but because of the EPA's renewed push to restrict any vehicle modifications for motorsports purposes, the RPM Act is more important now than ever before. Concerned about emissions, street vehicles -- cars, trucks, and motorcycles – can no longer be converted into racecars, according to the EPA, which recently announced that enforcement against high performance parts -- including superchargers, tuners, and exhaust systems -- is a top priority. According to the automotive trade association SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association), the sale, manufacture and installation of performance parts for racing would also be a violation of the EPA’s ruling. The RPM Act would protect the racing culture in America by reversing the EPA's interpretation that the CAA prohibits the conversion of a motor vehicle into a racecar, and also safeguards the motorsports-parts industry's ability to sell products that enable racers to compete. The measure would clarify that it is legal to make emissions-related changes to a street vehicle for the purpose of transforming it into a racecar used exclusively in competition, and confirm that it is legal to produce, market and install performance equipment.

BRITISH GOVERNMENT INTENDS TO SCRAP EU ‘VNUK’ LAW The Department for Transport (DfT) has announced plans to scrap the controversial ‘Vnuk’ motor insurance law, which was introduced across the European Union following a ruling by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in 2014. The case involved a Slovenian farm worker (Mr. Vnuk) who was injured when he fell from a ladder that was struck by a farm tractor. As the tractor was used entirely off-road, it was not required to have insurance. The case was referred to the ECJ, which extended the requirements for vehicular insurance to cover a vehicle's “normal function,” and not just use on a public road. The far-reaching implications of the legal ruling were huge, according to MotorcycleNews.com; “For a start it meant that all vehicles, even those not registered for road use such as track bikes or motocross bikes (or even forklift trucks and golf buggies), would have to be insured at all times. It also meant that any collision involving two vehicles, even if the collision didn’t take place on a public road, would have to have been treated as a regular road traffic accident for insurance purposes. So a bump in BSB between two riders would have gone through insurance. Calculations by the DfT suggested the insurance industry would have been on the hook for roughly £458 million ($641 million USD) per year, which would likely have been passed straight onto the general public with estimates of £50 ($70) per person per year.” Although the ruling was already passed into law when England was a member of the EU, since Brexit, now that the U.K. has exited the EU, the government can remove the costly and cumbersome legality from British law. UK POLICE CALL FOR MONITORING ALL MOTORCYCLES It appears that the reckless riding problem in the U.K. has reached a fever pitch, as Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Kim McGuinness has proposed the use of mandatory trackers “fitted to all motorbikes so their whereabouts and speed can be monitored.”
The commissioner has proposed this rather drastic mandate in a bid to locate and check the speed of all motorcycles at all times, as law enforcement’s effort to fight the rising number of cases of speeding, and what the commissioner is calling "anti-social behavior." As has been the case for decades now, trackers are often used as forms of punishment for convicted lawbreakers, and implementing this proposal would effectively tag all motorcyclists as criminals. Jim Freeman of the British Motorcycling Federation was quick to chime in that, "The mandatory use of a tracker is usually a sentence imposed by the courts after due process has been followed, but this would be tantamount to a collective punishment that sweeps hundreds of thousands of innocents up along with the tiny minority of the guilty without an investigation, trial or verdict." SPAIN MAKES MOTORCYCLE GLOVE USE MANDATORY Spain has now made the use of motorcycle gloves while riding mandatory, in a ‘safety’-trend that appears to be trending in Europe. Some countries already have rulings around gloves, with approved motorcycle mitts being the norm in France since 2017. There, motorcyclists and their passengers must wear gloves and according to RideApart.com, now Spain’s DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) is enforcing a similar law. A DGT working group initially met to discuss the mandatory use of airbag vests for motorcyclists, but the airbag requirement was dropped, and the group moved towards mandatory glove use. Ultimately, Working Group 52 on Motorcycles and Road Safety devised a new law requiring their use, effective early 2021, which “must have thick leather, imitation leather, Kevlar, or a similar material highly resistant to abrasion and heat to be compliant.” QUOTABLE QUOTE: “He that cannot reason is a fool. A man appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. ‘Have you ever done anything of particular merit?’ St. Peter asked. ‘Well, I can think of one thing,’ the man offered. ‘On a trip to the Black Hills out in South Dakota, I came upon a group of bikers who were lewdly joking with a young woman, but I couldn’t tell if she flirtingly liked it or was in peril. I was confused. I directed them to leave her alone, but they wouldn’t listen. So, I approached the largest and most tattooed biker and smacked him in the face, kicked his bike over, ripped out his eyebrow piercing, and threw it on the ground. I yelled, ‘Now, back off or I’ll kick the living crap out of all of you!’ St. Peter was impressed, ‘When did this happen?’ The man stuck out his chest in pride; ‘Couple of minutes ago.’ ------------------------------------------------------------The weather ahead is good, so we should have a smooth uneventful flight. So, sit back, relax, and....OH... MY….GOD!” Silence followed. Some moments later, the Captain came back on the intercom. “Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m sorry if I scared you. While I was talking to you, a Flight Attendant accidentally spilled coffee in my lap. You should see the front of my pants!” From the back of the plane, an Irish passenger yelled....... For the luva Jaysus,...you should see the back of mine, then.

WHEN TO REPLACE YOUR MOTORCYCLE HELMET
T
he general rule is to replace your motorcycle helmet every five years, but what if you drop it, sweat heavily or wear it every day? The biggest myth is that if your helmet falls off your bike when it’s parked, you should change your helmet. That’s probably put around by helmet retailers. Certainly you should check the helmet and it might depend on how far it fell and rolled. However, even though helmets are a one-use product designed to protect you in a crash and then get thrown away, they are pretty robust. Most helmets will easily withstand the general knocking they get in daily life. If they don’t, then you really have to wonder about their ability to protect you in a crash. Show some respect That doesn’t mean you can throw your helmet around. You need to treat a helmet with respect and care and store it in a cool, dry place. The outside shell – plastic, fibreglass or carbon fibre – is pretty tough, but keep it away from petroleum-based products such as fuel, cleaners and paint. It’s the interior foam that deforms to absorb the impact in a crash and protect your head. So that means that you shouldn’t store any heavy objects in your helmet. If it drops with something heavy in it, then it will damage the helmet. Also, be careful how you hang your helmet on a hook as this can deform the interior foam.
If you feel the need to inspect a helmet after you’ve dropped it, you could probably get it x-rayed by a professional. However, if it’s been such a big drop or a frequent number of knocks that you are concerned, then you should just bin it anyway. Five-year life General helmet use means a helmet will last for about five years. The glues, resins and other materials used in the making of the helmet can lose their effectiveness and also deteriorate the lining. Be aware that your helmet may have sat on the shelf for some time before being bought by you. Ask the dealer to prove date of manufacture. You can prolong your helmet if you store it properly when you’re not using it. Keep it in a cool, dry place and store it inside the helmet bag in which it came. It’s not the outside that deteriorates, but the inside foam and fabric lining. If you notice the helmet getting loose or some of the lining coming out or it leaves little black flakes in your hair, then it’s time to retire it, whether it has reached the five years or not. Frequent use, sweating in your helmet, having greasy hair or using a lot of “hair product” can all aid in compacting the foam and making the interior lining degenerate faster than normal use. You can also prolong the life of your helmet interior by wearing a helmet liner, balaclava or scarf that keeps the sweat off. Another good reason to replace your helmet every five years is that helmet technology is advancing all the time and a new helmet is going to offer more protection than something five years old.

’m going to start this month’s article by quoting directly from their menu: “Only the finest ingredients. Organic whenever possible. Seafood flown in fresh daily. The DellaSantina family has been providing excellent food and service since 1420 in Verona, Italy.” So you may have guessed that the recipes for their appetizers, entrees and desserts have been handed down from generation to generation. Owner Gianfranco DellaSantina takes a lot of pride in the freshness of his food, there are no microwaves in this establishment. An extensive renovation has added a touch of fine dining and there is an outdoor patio with a gorgeous riverside view. My wife Sandy and I began our meal with some Focaccia, a flat oven baked Italian bread. Sprinkle a little olive oil and parmesan cheese on the Focaccia and it was delicious. For our entrée’s we tried the Grilled Chicken Alfredo, chicken breast with linguine and alfredo sauce and Spaghetti and Meatballs served with a plum tomato sauce with organic beef meatballs over the pasta. Both of the entrées were excellent and the portions were enormous. We both had to get to-go boxes just to make sure we had room to try some of the desserts like Tiramisu, made from scratch daily with coffee and liquor. Also on the menu, Tartufo, an imported Italian Gelato, and of course, Cannoli’s. They offer a wide variety of drinks including imported and domestic beer, and a selection of draft beers including a locally owned brew. You may also choose from one of their many wines to go with your meal or a specialty drink. Ristorante DellaSantina is located at 2004 Red Bank Rd., Suite 9 in Sevierville, TN. Smoky Mountain Thunder Memorial Ride XXI Date: 05/30/2021 Time: 10:00 AM Location: Sevier County Courthouse, 125 Court Ave, Sevierville, TN 37862 May 30th motorcyclists will once again gather in downtown Sevierville at the Sevier County Courthouse for the 21st Annual Smoky Mountain Thunder Memorial Ride. The reason is to pay Tribute to all Fallen Military. This year’s theme is “Remembering All Those Whose Gave”. Opening ceremonies begin at 10am at the Courthouse with the National Anthem, TAPS, Patriotic Music, Guest Speaker, and Placing of the Wreath. The police escorted ride leaves at 11am on the 65 mile ride to Veteran’s Overlook on Clinch Mountain.
