FROM THE PUBLISHER Symbolism is an important aspect of the biker community. Many of us choose to adorn our bikes, vests, or even ourselves with images that have meaning to us. Some, such as flames or skulls, might simply embellish and give a look that we like. We might show support for a brand or organization and the traditions they represent with a logo such as the bar and shield. Some images, though, have much stronger meaning such as a cross, a colored ribbon for a challenge faced or in memory on one lost, or our nation’s flag. In almost every case, we decide what each image means to us. In recent months, it appears that a growing movement has decided to rid us of images that hold negative meaning to themselves. They have taken it upon themselves to tear down monuments and hide things that they claim are offensive to them. As I write this, they are focused on items that they can associate with racial conflict. It seems clear that there are forces within our country that are determined to tear us apart and further divide our nation. This is tragic on so many levels and is clearly motivated by folks that seem to have their own agenda. When I put my vest on or have a tattoo etched into my skin, I do so for what the images represent to me. I have symbols representing my faith and other beliefs that I hold to be important. I have chosen these for what they mean to me not necessarily for what they mean to a reporter I’ve never met or extremists causing violence in another state. I’ve always believed that one of the strengths of the riding community is the realization that we are all “in this together”. We can ride across town, the state, or even across the country and run into kindred spirits that we can easily recognize as brothers or sisters. It’s not always a patch or tattoo – and very rarely is it because they look anything like me. It’s more about acceptance. We recognize each other as fellow travelers on the road. I’m not speaking of I90 or 77, but the road represented by our journey in life. When the call goes out to escort a fallen soldier or to ride in support of a local hero or child in need, nobody ever mentions the race or even religion of those we look to honor. And I’ve never once heard anyone ask. It doesn’t matter. We are all in this together, and we ride in support of those in need or honor those that have sacrificed for us. That’s what we do. The machines we ride are symbols as well and represent our passion for life. Whether it’s an aggressive street bike, a hand-built chopper, or long-distance cruiser – you can tell a lot about a person by the bike they ride. But as diverse as our bikes are – we all share a common bond. I’d like to think that’s a celebration of life and the opportunities presented by the paths we choose to take – whether that’s a highway, a dirt track, or a trail through the woods. Let’s continue to ride together and set an example for the rest of our nation. You don’t really need a bike to be a biker at heart – and you don’t need a symbol to be a brother. You just have to live the life and recognize what’s important in it. It’s not a statue or patch, but the thought and beliefs behind it. And we choose those ourselves. Live life to the fullest and I hope our roads cross, Sincerely,

Derek Armstrong Smith Thunder Roads Ohio Publisher Smith.Ironcowboy@gmail.com

Pick Your 2018 Dates!

“A Stich in Time.” We often get asked about getting patches made, for rides – clubs – or just to commemorate something important. We’ve tried online resources but really haven’t had a lot of success with them. It’s always easier to deal with someone directly and be able to talk with them, especially when you’re working on something creative. Our Cincinnati crew found a great shop that’s joined the TRO Network and we are proud to recommend.

Get your TRO Dates Down – the earlier the better! Even if this year’s event just occurred or hasn’t even, it’s still a good idea to get your 2018 dates down as soon as possible. Thunder Roads Ohio has already begun compiling calendars for next year, and the sooner you get your date down – the sooner others will know to steer clear of it. It

Stitch Tech is a shop that is found in a little town of Bethel Ohio. Many of you may not know where that is but they just filmed a Robert Redford movie there just a few months back. (The Old Man and The Gun). The owner started doing this type of work with her mom while she was going to college. Now she has her own shop where her daughter works with her. She has been doing this type of work for over twentysomething years.

For 2017, we focused on hosting more TRO and Iron Cowboy Events and the result was more TRO Bike Shows, Tattoo Contests, and Hosted Photo Shoots than ever before. It was our belief that a greater number of smaller events, including numerous ones that we produced ourselves, would put us in front of more riders across the state. The seasons not over, but the approach seems to have worked fairly well. The challenge, though, is scheduling so many events! Even with multiple event teams, we’re still a small company and can only do so much. So, if you’d like an Iron Cowboy Road Crew out at your event or location next year, now is the BEST time to get those requests in!

They do screen printing to embroidery. You need patches or shirts made for your event or club give them a call. Stitch Tech 220 West Plane St Bethel, OH 45106 (513) 734-2999

TRO SCAVENGER HUNT The TRO SCAVENGER HUNT is a special, indoor THUNDER RUN through the pages of our very own magazine. Hidden someplace within the depth of these pages is a special TRO PRIZE LOGO – see the sample here. It’s a version of our “wheel logo” with a treasure chest on it. It was inspired by Cole’s favorite TV show – Jake and the Neverland Pirates! When you find it, shoot us an email at BuckeyeThunderRun@gmail.com with SCAVENGER HUNT in the subject line. Let us know what page and exactly where the logo is in this month’s magazine and we will put you in the drawing for some great TRO prizes – including some great gear and subscriptions to the magazine! 1-800-4-BIKERS “The 2018 Fat Bob was one of the most fun motorcycles I have ever ridden. Period.. Regardless of bike category, engine type, or size, the Fat Bob is like re-discovering motorcycle riding. It’s that fun.” - Ed Subias, Hot Bike Magazine “The best all-around performance Harley-Davidson cruiser ever made? You’re looking at it in the 2018 Harley-Davidson Fat Bob.”

The New Harley-Davidson Cruiser Line features a BEAST in its midst. TRO ROAD TEST: 2018 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FAT BOB For 2018, Harley-Davidson took some dramatic steps with its cruiser line – eliminating the Dyna rubber mounted models entirely, and instead introduced a line-up of newly designed Softails with an entirely new frame and newly designed single shock under the seat. These bikes also feature new versions of the Milwaukee-Eight (available in 107” and 114” options!) that are rigid mounted, as opposed to the Dyna’s rubber mounted Twin Cams. The highest performance model in the new cruiser line is the 2018 Fat Bob – and as luck would have it, our friends at Thiel’s Wheels Harley-Davidson just happened to have a 114” Fat Bob available for us to take out. How cool is that?!

designed softail frame which incorporates a number of design features aimed at making the frame (and bike) much stiffer and at the same time much less weight. In the case of the Fat Bob – the 2018 is a whole 33 pounds less than the 2017. More power, less weight, and a stiffer frame? And we haven’t even talked about the inverted Showa fork and dual disc front brakes or the all new 2- into-1 performance exhaust that comes stock. From it’s Dyna days – it still has the big front tire (130mm wide) and 150mm in back on 16” cast wheels. They are the largest and most aggressive ever offered by H-D on a factory cruiser. Yup – it’s a beast!

Well, pretty darn cool – I’ve got to say! Right from the start, it’s hard not to smile or let loose with a “hell yeah!” while riding the Fat Bob. The 114” Milwaukee Eight delivers so much torque and extra power compared to the Dyna’s Twin Cam – there’s really no comparison. According to the factory, it’s spec’d at 1746cc and 110 lb-ft toque at the twist of the throttle. Cutting through the turns you can also immediately feel the difference made by the new frame design – which clearly delivers on all the claims made by H-D in their marketing materials. It’s incredible. There’s a big external knob that allows you to adjust the spring preload on the hidden shock. Another new feature to the cruisers are dual counterbalancers that cancel primary vibration. It’s a little quieter than expected, especially with the power it has, but the overall feel seems well balanced. Smooth enough to enjoy for longer distances, but enough growl to let you and everyone around know she’s on the prowl.

2017 Harley-Davidson Fat Bob Over the next two pages, we will profile each of the models in the new Harley-Davidson cruiser line with information provided by the factory. Each of the models is built around the newly THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE

The “All-New Fat Bob is the besthandling cruiser that The Motor Company has ever built”. - Ed Subias, Hot Bike Magazine THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM

- Sean McDonald, Cycle World It’s hard not to echo the sentiments of Editors and moto magazines from across the board on this bike. I hadn’t read any before jumping on the new Fat Bob, but every one of these statements ran through my head as I took the bike out on my initial run. Frankly, it just didn’t feel like a factory bike. It felt like a custom creation, fine-tuned for exactly the experience I was looking for. The I’ve always been a fan of the Softail cruisers – having ridden a Heritage exclusively for more than 10 years, but it’s certainly not a bike that you’d call “agile” or “nimble”. Well, that is unless you’ve spent subsequent years eating up highway miles on a Road Glide as I have. I love the big v-twin cruiser feel, and my Road Glide is certainly still my long distance choice. But I have been eyeing the modern scramblers and even the newly introduced factory bobbers as something smaller and a bit more aggressive, fun around town. Then along comes the new Fat Bob delivering all that – along with the ground pounding power of the 114” Milwaukee Eight and caged beast feel that only a big v-twin cruiser can deliver. As to the look? I think it’s the most aggressive looking bike that Harley has put out since the V-Rod Muscle. But the V-Rods all still had that smooth race, streamlined look to them. This just looks raw and mean. And, yes – I do like the look of the new LED headlamp as well. It looks like a modern custom build – from start to finish. For those of you bemoaning the death of the Dyna series in the line-up, there are still plenty of them out there in the market for you to find and resurrect. In terms of new ones, these new designs are clearly an evolution with the frames, mounts, engines – just about everything upgraded and improved. The truth is in the ride. NEW 2018 HARLEY-DAVIDSON MODELS UNVEILED 8 All-New Softail Models replace the Dyna Models To celebrate Harley-Davidson’s 115th Anniversary year, the Motor Company is launching a custom revolution: Eight all-new Softail® models that merge the hardriding performance of the Dyna® line with the unparalleled custom look of the Softail line. It is Harley’s largest-ever product development in company history. The new bikes compared to prior year models feature a stiffer and significantly lighter frame built to harness the pulse-quickening torque of the new dual-counterbalanced Milwaukee-Eight® 107 and 114 engines. With high-performance dual-bending valve front suspension and an easily adjustable hidden rear mono-shock, the aggressively styled 2018 Softail models are faster, lighter and better handling than any of their Big Twin cruiser predecessors. “The new Softail models are the result of the most extensive research and development program in the company’s history,” said Paul James, manager of product portfolio, Harley-Davidson.“Thousands of hours of research and testing were put into the complete ground-up design of these new cruisers. We focused on taking the total rider experience to a higher level, where authenticity, heritage and soul meet the modern edge of technology for a ride that must be felt to believe.” New Chassis. The handling of a Softail motorcycle enters a new era with a lighter, more rigid frame that elevates form and function to a higher plane, while maintaining the classic look of a hard tail and delivers a thoroughly modern ride. Benefits of the new chassis include increased lean angles, sharper turn-in response, quicker acceleration, nimble flick-ability, lighter weight, and easier side-stand liftoff than predecessor Softail and Dyna models. The steel foundation of the next generation of custom Harley-Davidson motorcycles has been forged. Frame/Swingarm. A new high stiffness carbon steel tubular frame forms the core of the 2018 Softail chassis. The completely redesigned frame and swingarm significantly increase the rigidity of the new chassis. The frame itself is 65 percent stiffer than the 2017 Softail frame, which leads to a 34 percent increase in overall chassis stiffness. The frame design achieves reduced complexity with a 50 percent reduction in component parts and a 22 percent reduction in welds. There are two unique swingarms, one for narrow and one for 10

2018 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy 240mm tire on the rear and 160mm on the front. wide rear tires. The wide chassis is 15 percent lighter (13 pounds) and the narrow chassis is 20 percent (18 pounds) lighter than the 2017 Softail frame. The swingarm transfers rear wheel movement to the under-seat monoshock while maintaining the pure, classic lines of a hard tail frame. High Performance Suspension. All-new front and rear suspension components are calibrated to match the dynamics of the new chassis, wheels and tires to enhance the comfort, control and performance of the 2018 Softail® motorcycles. The new mono-shock rear suspension preserves the classic hard tail look while revamped geometry improves ride quality, traction and control. The all-new Softail models are up to 35 pounds* lighter than 2017 models, delivering an improved power-to-weight ratio that provides quicker acceleration, better braking and enhanced dynamic cornering capability combined with increased lean angles.

Smoother Running & Purer Sound. Milwaukee-Eight engines for Softail models feature a refined dual internally counterbalanced system that reduces engine vibration while maintaining the familiar Harley-Davidson feel. Harley-Davidson’s trademark “potatopotato-potato” sound comes through strong with less intake and mechanical noise. Two Engine Displacement Options. Milwaukee-Eight 107 Engine: (107 CID; 1746cc) Standard on all models Milwaukee-Eight 114 Engine: (114 CID; 1868cc) Optional Modern Styling & Design. Interpreting Harley-Davidson’s history, authenticity and styling DNA through a modern lens, the eight new Softail models feature all-new designs that strongly differentiate them from their predecessors and each other.

Look. Milwaukee-Eight engines retain the iconic 45-degree V-Twin cylinder angle with a broad-shouldered top end accentuated by a single camshaft design that tapers to a slim bottom end for a muscular contour. The new Softail frame’s rigid engine mounting is engineered to tightly package the engine and reinforce the chassis stiffness.

Have We Forgotten? By: Nate T. -Thunder Roads Louisiana Contributor This year (2017) marks the 16th anniversary of one of the most devastating days in American history. It also marks one of the last times that Americans truly were able to come together for the greater good of humanity, forging bonds through fire and pain. Ultimately, it marks one of the last times that the people of this country were able to set their differences aside to do the right thing. Since the birth of the United States, her flag was a symbol of support and hope to all who saw it. Sadly, since that fateful day, our colors are now seen as something to be feared and hated. The same people we stood shoulder to shoulder with on the day the world shook are now the very ones we fight in the streets over history, heritage, and political correctness. Where did it all go wrong? We were all united in the same pain when those towers fell. That shared pain galvanized us as a people causing us to rise up together, pledging to one another to never forget. Yet, it seems that many of us have. Was it something that just happened as an “out of sight, out of mind” moment? Was it intentionally placed in the hidden recesses of our consciousness? I think not. Instead it was something that people truly wanted to forget to avoid having to face the bitter truth. The most beautiful diverse country in the world that is divided and separated…shattered if you will. We lost over three thousand people on September 11th, 2011. Friends, neighbors, parents, siblings and more were all gone in the blink of an eye simply because of a hate that can only be answered by destroying all of us and this blessed place we call home. We were brought to our knees, but just for a moment. Do you remember how we got back up? I do, and I remember watching it happen all around me. Across the airwaves, a rallying cry reached out to televisions and radio in communities from sea to shining sea. In that, we witnessed a convergence of epic proportions in the following days and weeks as an entire country locked arms and joined hands. Socioeconomic and racial barriers were broken leaving not one citizen out. Men and women from all walks of life and beliefs helped one another to their feet. With newfound resolve, they then gathered and dug through the rubble to save what could be saved and to honor what deserved to be honored. Fast forward to today and much has changed. As I write this, I am witnessing THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE

fellow countrymen destroying some of the very things that made us the country we are. History is now violently being deleted based on false accounts of division. The funny thing is that this division witnessed today would have been stomped out quickly had it been perpetrated during the aftermath of 9-11. However, now it seems to be acceptable. This division can only lead us to setback, heartbreak, and ruin. It seems that we must have forgotten the very things that we swore to never forget. It also seems that we have laid down our integrity and honor as Americans in exchange for the vile and atrocious ways of lesser civilizations. What we are seeing in our country today is nothing more than a slap in the face to those that lost their lives in the fire and ash…and all of those that have lost their lives since, due to helping save what they could from the debris. It has become apparent that humanity, compassion, and truth have all flown out of the window in the face of freedom and liberty. Our world has become dark and twisted into a place where even the reality of life is in question based on the false perceptions of a few instead of what truly is.

apart, and rip this country’s history from its very foundations we should take at least a moment to remember what we vowed 16 years ago to ourselves and to over three thousand souls that were lost that day. We need to remember what it felt like to see fellow Americans covered in tears and soot. We need to remember the pain of watching those buildings fall. Once those feelings are pulled back from where they were tucked away, take a step back to truly remember what this country means to each one of us. There can be no more sides, parties, or labels of any kind just as it was in 2011. Keeping that in mind, on September 11th, 2017 we should be able to come together as we did before honoring our fallen and setting petty squabbles aside. Removing, rewriting, or simply ignoring history won’t change anything. It is remembering our history that allows us to push through new challenges and prevent horrific events like 9-11 from happening again. In essence, the preservation of the nation we all hold so dear lies with “We the People”. It’s time to stop trying to forget and start remembering.

Have we forgotten already the pain and anguish we felt and shared on that horrible day? Have we forgotten the way we were able to pull together despite everything and do what needed to be done? Have we forgotten the years and the turmoil in between then and now? I believe it is time to get back to remembering. I believe is time to get back to being the America that everyone stood and defended that day. I believe is time to get back to the America where freedom was earned and liberty was just! REPORT Bill Werner selected as 2017 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend Ceremony on Sept. 22 in Columbus honors Werner and inducts five new Hall of Famers

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Each year at the ceremony inducting a new class into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, an existing Hall of Fame member is honored as an AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend. For 2017, the recipient of that honor is Bill Werner, the most successful tuner and bike builder in AMA Grand National Championship history.

at www.americanmotorcyclist.com/induction. Tickets, which include a reception, dinner and the induction ceremony, are $130 per person, or $120 for AMA Life Members. Current AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers can attend for no charge. All proceeds support the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, the 501(c) (3) charitable organization that hosts induction ceremony.

“No one knows more about building a winning flat-track bike than AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Bill Werner,” said Ken Ford, chair of the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation Board of Directors. “Werner-built HarleyDavidson XR750s have won more AMA Grand National Championships and more races than any other machine, and his mechanical brilliance has elevated not just those racing his bikes, but the competitiveness of the sport itself. “We are very honored to recognize Mr. Werner as our 2017 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend,” Ford said. Werner, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2000, will be honored Sept. 22 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio, alongside the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Class of 2017. AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legends are Hall of Famers whose accomplishments transcend their categories in impactful ways. In addition to Werner, the roster of Hall of Famers who have been honored as Legends includes Mark Blackwell, Dick Burleson, “Willie G.” Davidson, Roger DeCoster, Torsten Hallman, Bob Hannah, Mert Lawwill, Wayne Rainey, Kenny Roberts and Malcolm Smith. “First of all, I would like to congratulate the current class of inductees who are being welcomed into this prestigious institution,” Werner said. “As for me, I am thrilled by this honor. It is quite unexpected. Typically, racers get most of the attention and deservedly so, and being selected as a tuner is very flattering.” Werner-tuned motorcycles include those that powered Hall of Famers Gary Scott, Jay Springsteen and Scott Parker to a total of 13 AMA Grand National Championships. When Springsteen set the record for all-time AMA national wins, it was Werner turning the wrenches. It was Werner who built Parker’s motorcycles when he later broke Springsteen’s mark. Werner is easily the winningest tuner in AMA Grand National racing history, with more than 150 wins to his credit. 14 14

The Class of 2017 includes FMF Racing founder Donnie Emler, off-road racing champion Eddie Lojak Sr., world motocross champion and Road 2 Recovery founder Bob Moore, racer and filmmaker Peter Starr and racer, team owner and publisher John Ulrich. They will be honored along with Werner, now an AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend.

Werner has garnered many honors over the years, including AMA Mechanic of the Year a remarkable 13 times, and he won the inaugural AMA Pro Racing Award of Mechanical Excellence in 1996. Werner retired from Harley-Davidson in 2004, but he continues to stay active in professional American Flat Track competition as owner and tuner of the Bill Werner Racing team, which has pioneered the development of the Kawasaki EX650 in AMA Grand National Championship competition.

The AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place in conjunction with the American International Motorcycle Expo, an event that brings together consumers, dealers, manufacturers and the world press in one location for global product launches, demo rides, motorcycling seminars and more. The American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation welcomes industry support of the induction ceremony, which supports the inductees, honors their achievements, recognizes the impact of their accomplishments and spotlights motorcycling’s deep roots in America. Contact Steve Gotoski at (951) 491-1910 or sgotoski@ ama-cycle.org for more information about becoming involved.

“The bulk of my career, I was working with Harley-Davidson Motor Company, and I was provided great equipment and the support of a great organization to build and maintain championshipwinning race bikes,” Werner said. “In many ways, the bigger challenge for me has been converting a street bike, the Kawasaki EX650, into a winning machine.” Reservations for the induction ceremony may be made now

Proposed 2018 renewable fuel obligations released Total volume slightly smaller than 2017 PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The proposed 2018 Renewable Fuel Standard volume requirements announced Wednesday by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency show a slight reduction from the 2017 obligations but do not reflect the agency’s promise to listen to consumers, who have registered a low demand for higher ethanol blends, the American Motorcyclist Association reports. The EPA’s proposed Renewable Volume Obligations call for 19.24 billion gallons of biofuel for 2018, down less than 1 percent from 19.28 billion gallons this year. “We are encouraged that the EPA is not proposing another increase in ethanol mandates,” said Wayne Allard, AMA vice president for government relations. “But we would prefer that the agency recognize what America’s marketplace is saying: ‘Consumers don’t want higherethanol fuel blends.’” Of the 19.24 billion gallons of biofuels proposed for 2018, 15 billion gallons would be conventional renewables, primarily corn ethanol, with lesser amounts of conventional biodiesel and renewable diesel, according to the EPA. The agency said the “volume of ethanol that can be consumed as E10 in 2018 is projected to be 14.29 billion gallons.”

THUNDER THUNDER ROADS® ROADS® OHIO OHIO MAGAZINE MAGAZINE

The AMA opposes any increase in the Renewable Volume Obligations under the Renewable Fuel Standard and would prefer a much larger reduction because higher ethanol mandates force greater amounts of high-ethanol fuel, such as E15, into the marketplace. An increase in the supply of E15 can lead to more inadvertent misfueling -- caused by blender pumps and confusing pump labels -- by motorcyclists. E15 fuel is a blend of 85 percent gasoline and 15 percent ethanol and represents a 50 percent increase in ethanol over the common E10 blend most Americans currently use in their vehicles. None of the estimated 22 million motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles in use in the United States is approved by the EPA to operate on ethanol blends higher than 10

THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM

percent. Using higher-ethanol blends in those vehicles is illegal and may cause engine and fuel system damage and void the manufacturer’s warranty.

The AMA also is concerned the increased reliance on corn ethanol could further reduce the amount of E0 fuel available. Since the distribution network for E15 and E85 is limited, fuel producers may be forced to reduce E0 output to stay within the EPA’s rule. “It is clear that the Renewable Fuel Standard has been broken for years and Congress needs to reform the law to protect motorcyclists and the millions of consumers who do not want higher ethanol blends,” Allard said. The proposed 2018 rule can be downloaded here: www.epa.gov/ sites/production/files/2017-07/ documents/rfs-2018-standardsnprm-2017-07-05.pdf. There will be a 45-day comment period and a public hearing before any further action can occur.

ABATE OF OHIO, INC.

SAFETY REPORT Hi Friends,

I am hoping that these stats stay this way for the rest of the year. Overall the weather has been as nice as one could ask with rains coming during the week for the most part and very nice weekends. The last five years we have had our stats going up every year. Now we have a decline in our stats and I hope that stays true. In 2016 we had 2,416 crashes with 105 fatalities and in 2017 we have had 1,872 crashes with 65 fatalities. That is looking good. We need to keep them down. Here are some facts that may help in our quest to keep these stats down and keep safety nuts and legislators from making new laws to save us all. In the month of July in 2015 and 2016 we had 31 fatalities and this year we have only had 24 fatalities. Last year in August 30 fatalities, September - 19 fatalities, October - 34 fatalities, November - 8 fatalities and December -1 fatality. Using these numbers, we will still finish this year 25% short of last year’s 200 fatalities. Last year we had almost half of our fatalities in the last half of the year. Remember, in half of the crashes bikers are at fault, most being single vehicle crashes, and we still have way too many distractions. Motorcycle Ohio will still be running classes through most of October. If you have never taken a class, sign up and you will learn something. As in anything we do every day, we get lax in our skills and that’s when we need help. The one-day course is a very good way to get back to safe riding and stay alive. To check on class openings, go to www.motorcycleohio.gov or call 1-800-83-biker. As many of you know I did my time in Vietnam 1967, seeing many types of motorcycles and three wheel motorbikes, carrying many people at one time or very large loads at one 18 18

time. So this month in AMA magazine I see that the Vietnam government is going to banish all motorcycles by 2030. I have seen pictures and I don’t think the roads have improved that much and I don’t think the people have that much money. The reason to banish all motorcycles is to reduce pollution and reduce congestion. As we always say, it has to start somewhere. Will we be next? They always look at our pollution and want us to water cool everything. Just saying! Every day we read more about autonomous cars and how they will make driving safer. One thing you may want to look at is that they have no distractions. Today we have drivers texting, emailing, making calls for no real reason (most could wait) and eating. No, I don’t think these cars are ready to intermingle with motorcycles yet but we need to keep telling them that we are not going away. Figure out how to drive with us before going any further. My safety tip, (think before you stop reading), pedestrian and bicycle safety. Pedestrian fatalities are going up rapidly. Some of the reasons are distractions and not knowing the laws. Cell phone distractions are very bad and people will walk out in front of you. Pedestrians walking with the traffic don’t know what is coming or how close cars are. You are supposed to walk against the traffic and you should have time to get out of the way. It is now a law that we have to stay 3 feet away from bicycles but they still don’t

THUNDER ROADS® ROADS® OHIO OHIO MAGAZINE MAGAZINE THUNDER

THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM

follow all traffic laws and that is how they get killed. With fall almost here it’s a good time to start thinking about a colors ride. The southeastern part of the state is great. On the Triple Nickel, Rt. 555 you have a great ride and some beautiful colors. I like to take a map, a paper Ohio map, and put it on the table and hunt for a river and that nice curvy road next to it. You can find some great riding and many stories to tell. One of my favorites is the Muskingum River out of Marietta --check it out! But you’ve got to stay off those 4 lanes. Can’t find stories out there! KENNEDY STYLE WHY WE RACE......... What is the fastest you have ever gone on your motorcycle? WHY? I believe the fastest I have ever went was just under 100 mph trying to get off the Sandusky Bay Bridge after being swarmed by mayflies one June weekend a few years back.

But what makes someone do that on a regular basis against other riders, dragging a knee pushing themselves to the limit? I asked some very good friends of various ages and backgrounds: racers/ track day riders WHY? I got some very interesting and in many cases similar answers. Tim Dietz: “In the beginning it was always to improve skills and racecraft. I always got to compete with younger racers. I was the dog and they were the rabbits. That is incredible fun. Practicing on a race track, on a motorcycle with my three suns is as close to heaven as I will probably get. To put it into proper view, when you are in a car....you are watching a movie. When you are on a motorcycle.... you are in the movie.” Ray Cull: “Quick answer -- dropped too many times on my head as a baby. Long answer -- nothing compares to the rush of pushing yourself to go as fast as you can with nothing around you separating you from the full sensation of your speed.

20 20

Dragging your knee thru turns at over 100 mph started out as an objective but now its nothing more than a consequence and barometer of how well you are taking the corner. Racing has all of the above but the added element of competition from taking the flag at the start to being elbow to elbow 20 bikes deep going into turn 1. Then add in the strategy of trying to determine where and how to pass someone safely - this can take a lap or the entire race to find the right opening. The entire time pushing yourself to go as fast as you dare while fully experiencing and being fully conscious of just how open and exposed you are. I track dayed my car till the first time I did the motorcycle track day and car felt almost boring in comparison.” Sam Wang: “I race because it’s challenging and fun. I enjoy the competition not only with other riders, but also with myself, you know... trying to get around the track faster than the lap before.” ***Sam is the brains behind the newly created LEAN TRACK DAYS at Nelson’s Ledges Road Course. He says “Honestly I created LEAN to fill a void at Nelson Ledges. To bring back motorcycles to Nelson. But also to bring back together a fun group of people. For the past two years we were more or less disconnected, and LEAN brought the community back together again.”

Roger Weimer: “It’s the challenge. It takes physical ability to control a bike on the track. To move the bike from side to side, the strength it takes to hold on when you are on the throttle and when braking. The competitiveness of being bar to bar going through corners or on the straights. The camaraderie of the paddock. The only sport I know where you can play on the field (the track) with the pros. The excitement of going 150+ mph and dragging a knee. The anxiety of waiting for the flag to drop and the adrenaline rush from the standing start. Most importantly my pseudo family....I got lucky with that.” Tim Kennedy: “Thought I was a real bad ass on the street until I started on the track. Found out soon that it takes a lot to excel at this game. The challenge of mastering a road course and the competition with fellow riders is hard to explain. All life’s little distractions disappear. You race against other riders, the track and yourself. Each track poses new challenges and with each track comes a sense of accomplishment no matter the results.” The threads are similar. The challenge. The rush. The sense of family. This is the WHY! As always ride safe, DENISE KENNEDY

CMA Compassion My wife, Becky, is such an inspiration to me. Over the past 41 years she has taught me a lot, and I’m still learning. God created all of us different yet with one purpose in mind. Over the years the changes I have seen in her are amazing to say the least. When we married neither of us were living our lives for the Lord. Our lives were more about ourselves than about others. But, even then I saw qualities in her that really made her special and unique. She entered the field of nursing before I met her. In fact she was still in nursing school when we met and married. Upon completion of nursing school and training, came the big test to see if she qualified as a nurse according to state standards. She passed that test and received her title of RN (Registered Nurse). In the beginning she would provide the necessary care to assist with the healing process for the patients she served. Even then it was her effort to provide the best possible care she knew how to give and not just enough to get by. As the years have passed that part has not changed. She still gives the best possible care she knows how to give but now there’s more, and its compassion. Don’t get me wrong, from the beginning there was compassion for those she served but now there is compassion. In the beginning there was pity or empathy, or concern, or sensitivity. But now there’s sympathy, warmth, love, tenderness and mercy as her level of care has been awakened by God in her life. In her early years of nursing, a patient would be hard pressed to get any better care than they were getting from her for the physical medical needs. Now she still meets those needs with the greatest of skills, but her nurturing of the patient excels. Even yesterday her shift was over but she wasn’t done until an

hour and a half later because her co-workers still needed assistance and she was there to help. Mark 6:35-40, “When it was already quite late, His disciples came to Him and said, “This place is desolate and it is already quite late; send them away so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.” But He answered them, “You give them something to eat!” And they said to Him, “Shall we go and spend two hundred denarii on bread and give them something to eat?” And He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go look!” And when they found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.” And He commanded them all to sit down by groups on the green grass. They sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties.” NASB The disciples showed compassion in wanting the crowd to get something to eat and by sending them away to find it since it was already late. But Jesus had compassion for them and said to the disciples, “you feed them.” I can just see the disciples saying, “feed them, with what?” Jesus in essence, says “you don’t even know what you have, go look.” Once they did they came back with 5 loaves and 2 fish. Jesus blessed the food and broke it, giving it to the disciples to feed the multitude. Matthew 14:20 tells us after the 5,000 had eaten, the disciples took up 12 baskets. Now that’s compassion with overflow. No, Becky’s not Jesus, but she is one of His disciples and she has learned the meaning of true compassion. She put’s that to daily practice in all she does. As the disciples in Jesus’ day were blessed, today I am blessed. GR (Jerry) Niver CMA Ohio State Coordinator

PRESENTED BY RUSS BROWN MOTORCYCLE ATTORNEYS & THUNDER ROADS OHIO MAGAZINE Thunder Roads Ohio is proud to announce that this summer, we will once again be hosting the BUCKEYE THUNDER RUN - a state-wide, summer-long riding challenge hitting the coolest riding destinations and events across Ohio, presented by RUSS BROWN MOTORCYCLE ATTORNEYS! This is a riding challenge like no other and features great prizes every month that you earn by simply getting out to ride! The Way it Works: STARTING IN MAY, Thunder Roads Ohio will announce a list of Thunder Run stops each month. These stops are selected based upon the recommendations of our readers and confirmed by our editors. ALL STOPS have been screened by our editors and are places we feel comfortable recommending to you. We never simply add a stop because they are willing to write a check. Riders can then hit these locations and present their Rider Cards in order to register at each stop. Once a rider has registered at the stop - their card number is then entered into the drawing for that stop. Thunder Roads will then select rider checks-ins randomly each month from across the state for special prizes and incentives.

NEW FOR 2017: RIDERS CAN CHECK-IN THROUGH THEIR SMART PHONES AND SOCIAL MEDIA! IT’S NOT MANDATORY, BUT THIS ALLOWS INSTANT CHECK-INs AND INSTANT PRIZES! FOR THOSE THAT PREFER OLD SCHOOL, YOU CAN STILL CHECK IN WITH THE BOARDS. And it’s SIMPLE – 1. 2. 3. 4.

TAKE A PICTURE OF YOURSELF, YOUR BIKE, YOUR CREW, AND CHECK IN AT YOUR LOCATION. HOLD YOUR RIDE CARD UP, WITH YOUR NUMBER VISIBLE TO MAKE TRACKING EASIER. POST THE PICTURE TO YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT WITH THE LOCATION CHECK IN AND #ThunderRoadsOH It’s that simple.

Prizes are developed by both Thunder Roads and our sponsors - allowing for some exciting options. They may include stays at exciting locations, riding gear or accessories, gift certificates, cash, rally passes, concert tickets, and even the opportunity to win factory and custom motorcycles! The beauty and simplicity of this program is that anyone can win with any check-in, but your chances of winning are increased by the amount you ride! The dedicated rider treking across the state has a greater chance of accumulating prizes, but the couple that can only get out a few days a month to ride can also win! Every check-in counts as an entry in the “drawing” - so if you hit 40 stops in a month, you have twice as many chances of winning as someone that only hits 20. The more you ride, the more opportunities you will have to win! That’s the whole idea, to encourage everyone to get out and ride!

State and Stop Prizes: Every month the TRO staff will randomly select winners from the checkins. Some prizes will be specific to the particular stop - and usually sponsored by that stop. For instance, a leather shop may award a custom leather vest to someone visiting their store during the month of June. That would be a prize specific to that stop and only riders checking in at that location would be eligible for that prize. Other prizes will be state wide, with everyone checking in at any location eligible to win!

The Winners: If your check-in is drawn, Thunder Roads will post your card number both online and in the magazine. Riders will then have at least 45 days to “claim” their prizes. For state-wide prizes, winners will often have the opportunity to select from a number of prize options. For instance, a rider might have the option of winning an Ohio Bike Week Rally Package that includes accommodations and extras for attending North Coast Thunder Rally. If that rider isn’t able to take advantage of that prize, they might opt for a Premium Leather Jacket instead. • Riders are able to win multiple prizes - based upon the drawing of their check-ins. • Some prize drawings are specific to only check-in’s for the particular month - while others prizes are drawn from check-ins season long. • ALL CHECK-INs remain in the system for end of the season prizes! • Riders are able to check-in once a week at a stop (Monday-Sunday), for a maximum of 4 check-in’s per month (not counting bonuses).

For 2017, Thunder Run riders have the chance to win 6 different motorcycles, Sturgis Rally Packages, hundreds of tickets to concerts, some of the most exciting motorcycle events in the state, and countless other great prizes!

BONUS Check-ins! The 2017 Buckeye Thunder Run is supported by our sponsors, so we want to encourage everyone to support them in turn. For that reason, we will issue a BONUS CHECK-IN to riders spending $10 or more at the stop. The bonus criteria may be adjusted at some stops to accommodate riders on particulars of that stop. Specifics of each stop will be listed each month in Thunder Roads as part of the Stop Listing.

It’s really that simple! 1. Get your Ohio Ride Card. 2. Get the list of stops each month from your Thunder Roads Magazine, the website (ThunderRoadsOhio.com), or facebook. 3. Ride out to these stops and show them your card. 4. And then you win cool prizes, including cold hard CASH! The first step will be for riders to register for their Thunder Roads Ohio Ride Cards. A number of select locations will serve as Registration Centers. Riders can easily register at these points – free of charge. They will then receive their Ride Cards.

You can request a Ride Card through our website! You can now go online and register for your Thunder Run Ride Card through our website – www.ThunderRoadsOhio.com. Simply head to the TRO Online Store and order your Ride Card. There is a $5 convenience fee for this option – but ALL PROCEEDS are applied to our Warrior Fund, sponsoring charitable motorcycle events and organizations across Ohio. PLEASE NOTE - You can still use your previous Ride Cards. All Ride Card registrations carry over however, you are welcome to pick up a new shiny one if you’d like. Thunder Roads will also be registering riders for Ride Cards at specific events throughout the year as we distribute magazines. Key events, such as Ohio Bike Week or Bike Nights will have a special booth for Ride Card registrations. In most cases, we will be offering special incentives both for those registering for the cards and those checking in with their previously issued cards at these stops. THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE

Thunder Roads will also be working with charities and various non-profit events to include them in the Run schedule as well. This will be an easy means of encouraging participation and attracting riders from outside the local communities. In many cases, we will have specific prize drawings for those at these events. The Ride Cards will allow participants to easily and safely check in at all stops. Some Thunder Roads Sponsors will also be offering discounts to readers that present the cards. Thunder Roads will be listing special discounts and offers in the magazine throughout the year as an added value to readers and means of encouraging our partners to offer these extra savings. PLEASE NOTE: Once you have received your OHIO RIDE CARD, you will not be asked to provide personal information or emails at any location for check-in. You simply enter your ride card number! One key aspect of the BTR is that we will be limiting the number of stops to a reasonable amount each month. We are NOT simply adding anyone willing to write a check. We will be considering stops recommended by our readers and editors, and we will only select those that offer a legitimate interest to riders – making them worth the ride to visit. We are not hosting the run as a means of supporting the magazine, but as a fun way to promote partners and cool destinations all across the state. This is not simply a “Chinese fire drill” or mad-dash across the state. This is a Ride program. It is meant to be a way for readers to discover new riding destinations and enjoy the ride there. In fact, we have designed the program to encourage folks to break out of their local routes and trek to the furthest corners of the state.

Just Get Out and RIDE! One of the really exciting aspects of the program is that the Buckeye Thunder Run can be modified and added to throughout the summer – if not the entire year. We will be adding and dropping stops each month. Readers will be able to nominate stops, we’ll investigate them, and if we agree that it’s a suitable stop – they’ll be invited to join the run. Some stops will only run a few months – and possibly not consecutive. A cool winery in Geneva might be a stop early in the season, and then we bring them back during the harvest season! We can also modify the run if it turns out that something just isn’t working.

We want to keep things exciting for you, our readers as riders on the run. We’re bikers and it’s all about the ride. We want to help create fun experiences for you and share some cool spots in our state. And we want to discover new spots as well, which is why we are encouraging everyone to nominate their favorite riding destinations. Again this is not simply a sales tool for us or meant to subsidize the magazine! We have designed this run to entertain and challenge our readers – as well as promote our partners. As with the magazine itself, the Buckeye Thunder Run is presented through the support of our sponsors and partners all across the state. We have secured several key sponsorships already, but opportunities remain. If your business would like to get involved, this is a great way to promote yourself all across the state in a positive manner. Even if your organization is not a riding destination you might become a sponsor for the tremendous promotional value it offers through the constant media attention it will receive. Obviously this will be a heavy focus within the magazine but we are also working with radio and other media outlets to help spread awareness of the run. Sponsors are able to tap into this network and enjoy great exposure. We also have a number of unique opportunities for branding - including being featured on contest motorcycles, jackets, shirts, and other opportunities. The exact number and nature of these options will be determined as details are finalized and as the promotion develops over the summer. Sponsors will ALWAYS have first priority in these placements. 26

THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE

THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM

For 2017, there will be even more emphasis on Event Ride Stops. Rides, Rallies, Bike Nights, and Bike Shows will all be Ride Stops where you can check in to WIN! We will be adding a lot more Bike Night stops all across the state for more mid-week rides.

OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE

Sponsors will also have the opportunity to team up with Thunder Roads to help promote various charity events across the state. The Buckeye Thunder Run is a great vehicle to help promote non-profit events in communities all across the state. With the support of regional and state-wide sponsors, Thunder Roads can help promote these community events to a larger audience. Thunder Roads is involved in countless charitable events all across the state already – but with the support of our sponsors, we will be able to assist even more. Partners can assist in the sponsorship of specific events, areas of concern (such as breast cancer, child abuse, or animal shelters), or other specific areas. For more information on sponsorship, please email us at ThunderRoadsOhio@gmail.com Of course one of the key components in this whole program, second only to the riders themselves, is the stops. The Thunder Roads team has spent a lot of time collecting nominations and researching stops for the Run but there are undoubtedly plenty more stops out there. If you have a venue or event that you would like to get involved in the run, please don’t hesitate to let us know about it. If it’s your place, we will get in touch shortly with more information on the run and what’s involved. If you are recommending a spot for someone else, we will reach out to them and let them know they have been nominated. If you suggest a contact person, that can help expedite the process. Please send information to BuckeyeThunderRun@gmail.com or call 440-678-8608.

The RIDE kicks off MAY 10, 2017!

Some folks may sneak you in early, but please understand that we give a little time for people to get set up and everyone on the same page.

As we mentioned, this is a dynamic event – intended to be tweaked and developed over time. If you have ideas, suggestions, or concerns – please don’t hesitate to let us know. You can email us at BuckeyeThunderRun@gmail.com

If the staff at the location is busy, unavailable, or the place is even closed. You can take a picture and post with your card. We use the card to identify you – so please have the number visible. If we aren’t able to read the number we may not be able to notify you if you win. Also – if we can’t see the sign or easily identify your location, it will also be difficult to validate your win. Your best bet is to “check-in” at the location with your posting, and get a picture in front of the sign. It may sound complicated, but it’s really not. You will find that this is far easier and far faster in most cases. For those of you that don’t have smart phones, facebook, Instagram, twitter – or simply the patience to deal with all this. You’re welcome to still use the clipboard, which all locations also still have. Also – just a reminder that any location where we are set-up is also a Ride Stop. So, if you see our tents or the TRO Trailers someplace – you can pose in front and check-in! It’s that easy!

Check-in’s this month, have a chance to win you -

2017 Thunder Roads Ohio Championship Bike Show Bring out your bikes and show off what you’ve done! As motorcyclists, bikers, or whatever you want to call yourselves – our bikes are often our pride and joy. In many cases, we spend hours after hours, and often dollars after dollars making them our own personal ride. With all that time and effort, why not bring them out and showcase what you’ve done? To that end, we present the Thunder Roads Ohio Bike Show Series. The TRO Bike Show Series features local, regional, and nationally recognized shows that all builders and bike owners are encouraged to participate in. Vintage, metric, v-twin, customs, restored antiques, “resto-mods”, trikes, and radicals – they are all welcome to the show. Each bike show is also a qualifier for our Championship Shows – both the State Show and the National Championship Show which has been held as part of the I-X Piston Power Show the last several years.

40

The vast majority of these shows are RIDE-IN shows, meaning that the bikes are expected to be ridden and a little bit of road dust is fine. We don’t split hairs over trailering in bikes, but we do require that all bikes must be functioning. They must start and be able to be safely ridden on the road. Most of the shows include voting by event attendees and weighted judges scores. We use this approach to make certain we include the “people’s choice” as well as a professional eye – preventing it just being a popularity contest. Some shows, though, are Judged Shows – with the guest votes simply going towards the People’s Choice Awards.

Bikes and TOP Class Winners from the Bike Show Series are then invited to take part in the Championship Shows. CUSTOM PAINT! All shows this year include a CUSTOM PAINT class for bikes to be considered under. You can enter your bike in just this category – or you can add it as a second classification. There is a discounted fee for adding the second category.

All Thunder Roads Shows feature trophies and placards to recognize the bikes and winners, with special prizes being added in some shows in consideration of the location and hosts. The Best of Show

AIMEXPO

The AIMExpo Comes to Ohio The eyes of the motorcycle and powersports community worldwide will be in Columbus this month, as the AIMExpo comes to town with more than 500 exhibitors and industry leaders from around the world. They are coming to share their products and vision with more than 3,500 dealers, thousands of interested consumers, and the media. It’s the largest motorcycle and powersports show in North America – and expectations are that this will be the largest ever held! It’s a unique show that includes both an industry and consumer component. Then on Saturday, the show opens up to the public. For consumers, this is a chance to see the newest products and offerings from industry leaders from around the world – exactly as they are presented to dealers and the media. The American International Motorcycle Expo presented by Nationwide (AIMExpo), North America’s largest powersports show, will make its highly anticipated debut in Columbus at the Greater Columbus Convention Center (GCCC). After two trade-only days, the show opens its doors to consumers on September 23-24 for a sneak peek and inside look at the new products introduced for 2018. With hundreds of industry exhibitors from around the globe, inside the convention center and the opportunity to test ride a wide range of new motorcycles at AIMExpo Outdoors! AIMExpo is really two shows in one, delivering a unique, and fun opportunity for every member of the family to experience everything powersports and motorcycling has to offer.

At AIMExpo presented by Nationwide, participants can immerse themselves in powersports and motorcycling; it’s the one place many new machines can be seen publicly for the very first time. At publication time, more than twenty manufacturers will be exhibiting at AIMExpo, including Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Harley-Davidson, Indian, KTM and many more. In addition to the many new motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, and personal watercraft, the full complement of the latest aftermarket products, riding gear and accessories will be on display, many available for sale at the show. A full slate of educational and informative seminars and the appearance of special celebrity guests will offer additional opportunities for enthusiasts to enrich and enjoy their AIMExpo experience. In recognition of the continued rise in popularity and influence of the custom bike-building culture of motorcycling, AIMExpo presented by Nationwide will showcase the “Custom Culture powered by BMW Motorcycles.” Headlining the pavilion is the Championship of the Americas bike builder competition where a wide variety of custom motorcycles will be on full display. Skidmark Garage, a 10,000 sq. ft. community motorcycle garage in Cleveland, will host the Skidmark Garage Showcase & Lounge,

a marquee showcase in the pavilion that will provide an engaging area for attendees and builders to mingle, take photos and share dreams. The “Artisans Row” will showcase talent of industry craftsmen and craftswomen in a variety of fields including photography, tattooing, leatherwork, pinstriping, metal work and even kids’ face painting. Attendees will have a chance to meet and talk with the 2017 Custom Culture powered by BMW Motorcycles ambassador Brittney Olsen. The antique motorcycle racer will be on hand to share her passion for educating current and future motorcyclists about early American motorcycle racing – done through her company 20th Century Racing. Custom Culture broadens AIMExpo’s V-Twin initiative that was introduced at the 2015 event, developing an added focus on what is the most popular segment for younger millennial riders and do-it-yourself enthusiasts. The AIMExpo Championship of the Americas returns as a world-class custom bike competition between builders from all corners of the Americas that will serve as a path to compete in the 2018 AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building. The Championship takes place at the Intermot international motorcycle fair in Cologne, Germany in the fall of 2018. The Made in America @ AIMExpo pavilion will spotlight American companies designing, assembling, or producing the best powersports brands and products in the country. Made in America will showcase the ingenuity of American companies and their broad influence on the domestic and international powersports marketplace, and provide a natural home for producers of American V-Twin products.

“The Future Starts Here” Kicks Off 2017 AIMExpo Industry Show CEO’s of Harley-Davidson and Polaris to Offer Keynote Addresses to Industry Members The future of the powersports industry lies with new riders, and how to develop these new riders is a tough yet intriguing challenge the motorcycle industry must face together. To help address that challenge, AIMExpo presented by Nationwide (AIMExpo) invites dealers, media and all industry attendees to the show’s opening program, where leaders of iconic American manufacturers HarleyDavidson Motor Company and Polaris Industries will share their ideas. The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) also will reveal a key initiative toward this goal. AIMExpo presented by Nationwide will kickstart four days of industry business with “The Future Starts Here” on September 21 at 8:30 a.m. in the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. Opening ceremonies will feature keynote speeches from Scott Wine, CEO of Polaris, and Matt Levatich, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson. but also to address shaping the state of the business beyond 2018 and into the future.

“The work must begin now to present a powersports riding opportunity that captures the emotion and imagination of the first ride experience to the next generations in America,” said Tim Buche, CEO of the MIC, which produces AIMExpo. “The moment has arrived for everyone in this great industry to have a role in building the road to our future, and we’re excited to welcome the leaders of legacy American brands Harley-Davidson and Polaris to America’s premier show as we define the way forward.”

“Plotting the path ahead and addressing the real challenges of our collective business starts with coming together,” said MIC Events VP and general manager Larry Little. “There will not be a better opportunity for the industry to meet face-to-face and discuss these issues than AIMExpo presented by Nationwide this September in Columbus.”

AIMExpo presented by Nationwide is where all the industry’s stakeholders – dealers, manufacturers, aftermarket and media – converge to share not only what products and services will be part of the business in 2018,

MAHONING VALLEY

MADNESS With several successful races under their belt, the newly launched Steel Shoe Nationals Pro Flat Track Series comes home to Ohio for a day of racing at Cortland’s Expo Speedway at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. The Steel Shoe Nationals was launched from right here in Ohio, by former race driver and lifelong flat track fan Christy Cottrell. After 30 years involved in various motorsports, Cottrell saw a major opportunity to expand flat track and improve on its fan base. For over 90 years, Flat Track racing has pitted racers and their machines against each

other in an adrenaline-fueled motorcycle race around a dirt oval in front of thousands of screaming fans. Flat- or dirt track racing was once the dominant motor sport in America and was showcased on tracks all across the country. However, in the 1980’s the highflying motocross bikes and sleek machines of Grand Prix racing caught the attention of racing fans – and manufacturers focused their attention on dirt bikes and sport bikes for those seeking a racing thrill. Flat track was left in the dust and sustained only through the passion and drive of those already infected with its lure.

Now, flat track racing is seeing a resurgence as more and more are discovering the raw energy of racers hurtling down the straightaways at speeds of over 130 mph before sliding through the turns at 90 mph – often just inches apart. “Flat track is truly America’s sport! As the oldest documented organized racing form in the United States, Flat Track has seen some ups and downs in its long history dating back as far as the early 1900’s. Right now, the sport is seeing a dramatic surge in popularity not only on the professional level but across the board. Local clubs and amateur races are seeing more interest as well. The sport broke through a lot of barriers when it was added as a sport in the highly-acclaimed Summer X-Games and featured on an International stage.” Cont’d P.64

What’s a “Steel-Shoe”? One of the most distinctive aspects of Flat Track Racing is the custom piece of metal known as a “steel shoe” that every rider wears over the sole of his or her left boot. In dirt track racing the course is usually an oval, where only left turns are made. The racer uses his left foot as an outrigger to balance the bike as it’s leaned far into the turn. The steel shoe, or hot-shoe, is an integral part of flat track racing and creates a distinctive sound in the pits as the racers walk by. Step – clump, step – clump, step – clump!

FROM ACROSS THE POND “The History of Matchless Motorcycles”

by Andy Tallone

MATCHLESS BUYS AJS Also in 1931, Matchless bought AJS Motorcycles from the Stevens brothers, then in the late 1930s bought Sunbeam Motorcycles also, which it would later sell to BSA in 1943. From this point on, all Matchless and AJS Motorcycles would be mechanically nearly identical, with slightly different styling. The only major mechanical difference between the two was that Matchless positioned the magneto behind the cylinder, and the AJS had its magneto in front of the cylinder. Otherwise, they were essentially the same machines built on the same production line. Each had its own model designation. The Matchless G80 (500 single) became the AJS Model 18. The Matchless G9 (500 twin) was the AJS Model 20, and so on. The quintessential Matchless: 1948 G80 500cc single.

A SUPPLIER OF ENGINES In 1933, Matchless began supplying V-twin engines to the Morgan Car Company for their cute little 3-wheeled cars and became the exclusive supplier by 1935. From 1935 to 1940, Matchless V-twins were supplied to Brough Superior for all their motorcycles (this is the bike that Lawrence of Arabia rode). In 1935, Matchless engineers invented the ‘hairpin valve springs’ that would become a trademark of the two brands.

STARTED WITH BICYCLES Established by Henry Herbert Collier as ‘Collier & Sons’, with sons Charlie and Henry, Matchless Motorcycles started out making bicycles, as did so many makers of classic British motorcycles. They built their first prototype motorcycle in 1899 and had it in production by 1901. In 1905 they produced a JAP V-twin powered bike with one of the earliest versions of rear swing arm suspension in motorcycle history.

THE EARLY YEARS Then they started racing. In 1907, son Charlie won the Inaugural TT Singles Race at an average speed of 38.21 mph (blistering speed at the time). His brother Harry won in 1909 and Charlie won again in 1910. At the time, they were building mostly singles, with a few V-twins for sidecar duty. Until this point, Matchless Motorcycles were built using other manufacturers’ engines, but starting in 1912, Matchless began building their own engines. WWI came and went without them landing any military contracts to build motorcycles for the War Department. But in 1919 production resumed with Matchless building a new V-twin and in 1923 a new single. The father died in 1926, leaving a vibrant family-run business behind. In 1930, Charlie designed a narrow-angle (26-degrees) 400cc V-twin, the Matchless Silver Arrow. They expanded this into a 600cc V-4 in 1931.

Matchless supplied V-twin engines to Morgan for their 3-wheeled cars.

AMC IS BORN In 1938, Associated Motor Cycles (AMC) is formed, to hold a stable of brands that included not only Matchless and AJS, but also Sunbeam, James, Francis-Barnett and ultimately Norton Motorcycles.

WAR INTERVENES AJS engines (left) had their magnetos in front, Matchless (right) put theirs in back. Otherwise they were identical.

68

THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE

In 1941, Matchless and AJS introduced their new telescopic front fork, called “Teledraulic”, to rave reviews. WWII saw Matchless build 80,000 G3 and G3L 350cc singles. The post-war singles

THUNDERROADSOHIO.COM

were based on the wartime Matchless G3L. 1949 saw the company’s first vertical twin, the 500cc Matchless G9. In 1956 it was enlarged to 600cc (G12) and in 1959 to 650cc (G15).

everything else on Norton Motorcycles. The singles never sold well, even Norton sales weren’t as strong as hoped, and by 1966, AMC was in bankruptcy. Manganese Bronze Holdings (who also owned Villiers Motorcycles) bought them out, forming a new company, Norton-Villiers, with ambitious plans to become big players in the British motorcycles industry. They planned to do this with one motorcycle: The Norton Commando. The rest is history. But for Matchless and AJS, a few 1967s were sold, and some unsold bikes retagged as 1968s and licensing deals produced a few more bikes scattered here and there. Alas, by the close of the decade, Matchless, AJS and the entire AMC stable of brands (except Norton, which would fail very soon) were relegated to the junkheap that once was the British motorcycle industry. Truly a pity. For more history and great photos of classic British motorcycles, please visit our website at www.Classic-British-Motorcycles.com.

Matchless’s first twin, the 500cc G9. The AJS version was called the Model 20.

POSTWAR RACING In racing, the supercharged AJS Porcupine, Matchless G50 and AJS 7R were winning races and helping to cement the reputations of Matchless and AJS as fast, dependable machines. In 1952, Derek Farrant won the Manx GP on a 1952 Matchless G45 twin averaging 88.65mph. AMC withdrew from racing at the end of the 1954 season, concentrating on sales. But, unlike most manufacturers, Matchless and AJS were selling pretty much the same race bikes to the public that the factory had fielded. And their sales of race bikes continued long after the factory stopped racing. The 1959 Matchless G50 500cc single, for instance, had 50 hp, would do 135 mph and was faster than a Norton Manx. When Bert Hopwood left AMC for Triumph in 1961, some of the racing magic faded.

HARD TIMES By 1960, the handwriting was on the wall: sales were down and the future looked bleak for AMC. Between their five once-proud brands, Matchless, AJS, James, Francis-Barnett and Norton, only Norton was actually making money. Your Future Looks Bleak We live in troubled times. With that I think almost everyone can agree. But are these times more troubling than for those who came before us? No. I would join the national rhetoric regarding the state of our country, but we see enough of that daily by the Hate Feeding Media. I am a student of life. I live and function in a very politically charged society, regarding MC’s. I can’t help but see the parallels to current events in our country. I often wonder, what makes Men think the way they do? What makes them believe that their ideals and principals are more correct than others? Is it something that they have been taught? Is it something that they blindly follow? Is it something that will ever change? Is it a “respect” thing, or is it as childish as playing “capture the flag” at elementary recess, but with deadly consequences? There is a commonality in the MC life. The commonality that everyone thinks they are the best. I get it. I think we’re the best. Lol. I have absolutely no issue with Pride in your Nation. But if you believe your opinions & rights to free thinking negate anyone else’s rights to their own opinions & free thinking, you are the problem. The same issue I have with Hate Groups and these Radical Liberal Terrorists who think their opinions matter to anyone but themselves. News Flash, the rest of us don’t care what you think. There are many though that feel that without War, there can be no peace. To that I say, without War there is nothing but Peace. Our enemies are not each other. We are mostly of a very similar breed, in our thoughts, and actions. In any other circumstance, we might even be best friends. We like the same things. We have similar beliefs. Yet we fight amongst each other as if we don’t even know each other’s principals. Good God Men, please evolve. Everyone who enters your life isn’t your enemy. I know, I get it. Some people are just born to hate. Still being stuck in the Tombstone thought processes from my recent visit, I understand the movie line “A man like Ringo has got 72

a great big hole, right in the middle of himself. And he can never kill enough, or steal enough, or inflict enough pain to ever fill it.” The truth is, those should be the minority, not Men to whose principals should guide you, unless of course your desire is to end up dead or in jail. Are you no better than that? Are you no smarter than that? Does the preservation of your society not mean more to you than that? If not, then you are simply putting yourself ahead of your own Nation. Do you think for a minute that losing another Member to death or incarceration makes you stronger? More respected? More Feared? Hell, it’s difficult enough to find members of the younger generation who even want to be us. Who can be us. Stop sacrificing your own future for principals that are relics.

I agree that without history, there can be no future. Does that mean that every decision that was made in history was the correct one? No, it doesn’t. Learn from the mistakes of those that came before you. It’s every bit as important as preserving the patch on your back. In fact, it might even be the most important decision your club can make for your future. We are still talking about Motorcycle Clubs, aren’t we? I’m sure this unfortunately isn’t the most popular opinion, but it’s mine, and I approve it. Change your mentality, or your future looks bleak! Keep it Real! My Road Name is Tabasco and I approve this message. Tabasco.tro@gmail.com

BUCKEYE FIREARMS REPORT Drawing A Pistol From Concealment, Part 1: The Draw by Andy Lander, NRA Training Counselor Program Coordinator After you have mastered the fundamentals of shooting a pistol at a target on a range, you may start to wonder, “How do I use this leather or Kydex thingamajig?” Ultimately, you’ll need to know how to draw the gun from a concealed position, particularly for those who want to become effective concealed carriers. But before you start throwing on the Hawaiian open-front shirt ripping fabric out of the way, there are a few things you need to learn and practice before executing your concealment draw.

There is definitely more than one way to draw your pistol from its holster when concealed. Additionally, there is a huge variety of different styles of holsters for all sorts of applications and environments. Options include leather, plastic, Kydex and other composite materials, while styles include traditional outside-the-waistband, inside-the-waistband, hybrid holsters, drop-leg, and even pocket holsters. The most important thing is to find a solution that fits your needs and train with that set up. The following steps can be applied to most types of concealed holsters. Any new student that comes to an instructor should progress from the simple to the complex. The simplest way to learn how to draw a gun from concealment is by learning it from an opencarry position first. Many trainers refer to this as “running slick,” and you’ll add layers as you go. First and foremost: all firearms training requires

Our family of highly effective pro-gun organizations includes Buckeye Firearms Association, Buckeye Firearms Foundation, and Buckeye Firearms Association PAC. Buckeye Firearms Association (BFA) is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization that serves as the flagship of our grassroots efforts to defend and advance the right of citizens to own and use firearms for all legal activities, including self-defense, hunting, competition, and recreation. BFA works to pass pro-gun legislation, educate the public through ongoing media relations, provide high-quality firearm classes, and make available a wide variety of resources for gun owners. While anti-gun groups get their funding and support from wealthy activists or big corporations, BFA gets its funding and support from citizens like you who value their Constitutional rights.

adamantly following the NRA Gun Safety Rules. While training, especially for novices, I recommend using an unloaded firearm on the range or other prescribed shooting area. Never practice drawing from concealment in a public space, even with an unloaded firearm. Also, always be aware of your surroundings, and never point the firearm in an unsafe manner. Keep your muzzle downrange at approved targets only, even if you’re not pulling the trigger. Before holstering, check to ensure your gun is unloaded, and keep it unloaded throughout the exercise.

(Photo courtesy/Guns & Ammo) The first thing you should practice is getting to or “snapping” to the gun quickly. This training does not actually involve pulling the gun out of the holster. You’re practicing achieving a master grip on the gun, but during this exercise the firearm should remain in its holster. You should simulate this fast reaction to access your grip on your pistol, hence the “snapping” name. At the same time, you should be moving the other hand, known as the support-side hand, up the chest. U.S. Army Green Beret veteran Mike Green of Green Ops Training, who teaches various firearms training courses at the NRA Range in Fairfax, Virginia, explains: “Imagine a 12-inch string. When your gun-side hand moves to the pistol, your other hand is tied to it and lands on your chest.” While practicing this motion, you should also practice clearing your cover garment, as well. I do this every time I position a gun on my body, and will typically perform 10 to 20 repetitions. Your gun doesn’t need to leave the holster to build this skill. However, if you are wearing your firearm in a holster while simulating your draw, be cognizant of your surroundings and consider how this training will appear to bystanders. For that reason, I recommend performing this exercise at home, on the range or in private, as not to cause undue concern for those around you who may believe you are attempting to draw a concealed firearm.

(Photo courtesy/Green Ops Training. NOTE: This photo depicts a training pistol device and is performed in a controlled environment. Always adhere to the Gun Safety Rules, and only aim a firearm at approved targets.) Establishing a good grip at the holster is one of the most important things for a good, consistent presentation from the holster. The grip you achieve from the holster is typically what you’re using through the end of the presentation. How you grip the pistol determines whether your support hand joins properly to form a proper two-handed grip, and whether or not you create good tension in your grip. This also will determine if your trigger finger actually engages the trigger in the correct position. Gripping the pistol too low may be a contributing factor in causing the gun to malfunction. The second step involves pulling the gun out of the holster – remember to follow the Gun Safety Rules! Depending on the type of holster you have, you may have to disable or unlatch retention buttons first before you attempt to pull the gun from the holster. This is not only designed for safety, but also helps prevent you from fighting a tug-of-war with your holster and being unable to deploy the gun when it is needed quickly.

You should pull the gun out of the holster until the muzzle of the gun clears the holster. From a gun mounted on the belt line, I typically will pull the gun as high as I can to the pectoral muscle and rotate the muzzle immediately towards my target or threat. This ensures the gun is clear from the holster and allows me to shoot quickly if the threat is too close for a full arm extension. It also allows me to place my finger on the trigger and start taking slack out of the trigger. All too often, users will draw their gun, go to full extension, then put their finger on the trigger. This results in a tremendous amount of motion at the muzzle, which equates to loss of time and accuracy. On the range, you may just be a quarter-second slower; however, in real-world scenarios, timing could mean your life. Once the pistol is rotated towards the target, the non-firing hand should come from underneath and join with the pistol. The pointer finger from the support hand should touch the bottom of the trigger guard and the thumbs should roll forward into a stacked position. Your hands should now be gripping the gun firmly. Unless you are using a very small gun and physically cannot get all your of your fingers around the grip, you should avoid placing your fingers in front of the trigger guard. As you extend the gun out nearing a full presentation, you should begin to slow down. In the NRA Carry Guard program, this is known as the “three-quarter rule.” This will help you acquire the sights quicker and reduce muzzle movement.

Always adhere to the Gun Safety Rules, and only aim a firearm at approved targets.) That covers the mechanics of how to draw your pistol successfully from concealment and get on target. In the forthcoming part two of this series, we’ll discuss how to safely re-holster your firearm after you’ve engaged

your targets, as well as how to manipulate different styles of clothing to successfully draw your firearm. Reprinted with permission from www.NRABlog.com

“I could not find a sweet spot on my 2014 Harley Ultra for a comfortable ride on the back as we have air shocks. My wife and I met George (the owner) at an event in Ohio, he needed our riding weight with luggage. He put on a pair of Pro-Action Street Shocks and told me to take it for a ride— with no mention of money! How many people do that today? On the first trip we were close, but not what I was looking for. He made a quick adjustment and sent me back out. What a difference after a two-second adjustment! Now he said, you and your wife both go for a ride. She couldn’t believe the difference. No more slamming on her spine as we rode the same roads as before. George asked, “So, what do you think?” We both said, “Just amazing,” and he then asked if we would like a pair and we said, “yes.” So I asked, “What would you have done if I had said no?” His quote was, “Put your air shocks back on.” What a great experience it was to talk and deal with you.” Keith and Emily B. Ashtabula, OH

“BEST INVESTMENT ON MY BIKE.”

TRO PRODUCT REVIEW Find It Now GPS Security System As motorcyclists, we invest a lot of time and resources into our bikes, which we then take out into the world and often times leave relatively vulnerable to the bad guys. Anyone can simply walk up and jump on your bike and the more ambitious people or professionals might just decide that they would like to make it theirs. You can throw chains or fancy locks on your bike, but the truth is that in most cases a determined thief or professional crew can easily work around these devices. There are many easy methods that professional thieves can use to simply take your bike no matter what you do to challenge them. The challenge then is to recover your bike, and to that we recommend Find It Now GPS Security for your bike.

The FIN units are extremely easy to use, with both a website and very simple mobile app that also allow a number of other more advanced functions. In addition to being able to quickly and easily locate your bike on a map – you can also map locations of where your bike has been, set alerts for when your bike is on or off, or simply exceeding a preset speed. You can loan your bike to your significant other or friend and get reports on any transgressions that they may have committed. You can even set up “geofences” which will notify you if the vehicle travels outside the defined boundaries. If you’re going on a trip – you can share the mapped locations function with friends or family who can then follow along with you on your trip.

Several years ago, we came back from a show and left our trailer in front of our shop, attached to the truck and still fully loaded. The next day I arrived and was momentarily thrown off by the empty parking spaces where our rig had been. Thieves had come by and taken both the truck and the trailer – along with the custom-built motorcycle inside it. We regularly locked up our bikes and often used chains and devices on the wheels to make us feel better. None of that made a difference, though, when they simply took both the truck and trailer – carrying the bike inside. We thought that the bike might simply show up – being such a unique build and an uncommon brand at that time. It didn’t. The truck was later recovered, but the trailer and custom bike – never found as far as we know. If we had a FIN GPS tracker installed on the bike, it would have been a relatively easy thing to find the bike – heck, the system will even alert you to when someone touches or moves your bike the slightest bit. We don’t have to think about installing it every time we want to use it, or making sure that we have a key, or even remember to turn it on. It’s passive yet always active. It’s just there for when you need it.

Some more well-known systems on the market are only activated by the police – on your behalf. This can cause an unavoidable delay, leaving the bad guys a chance to chop your bike before the cavalry arrives. With the FIN unit you can be immediately notified of a problem and quickly locate your bike, before anything happens. You can let the police know where it is, without them having do anything further on their end.

The American-made, Find It Now (FIN) GPS units allow you to instantly locate your vehicle if it’s stolen – and will even send you a text or email warning if the bike has been moved, has a low battery, or the battery has been tampered with. It even has an internal battery, which allows the units to still be able to operate even if power is interrupted. You can even use it to work as a virtual odometer and remind you of various service intervals if you’d like. 92

The FIN system is sold only through motorcycle and powersports dealers throughout the US, who can install it in a hidden spot on your bike. It’s also a relatively easy install as well, if you’d care to undertake the project on your own. Once installed, it’s just there in case of a problem. In sleep mode, while the bike is not running, it draws less than 1 milliamp of power. This prevents the unit from draining your battery when you’re not riding.

Stop by the Find It Now booth at the AIMExpo in Columbus. They will be in booth 1047.

Paul Yaffe Chooses FIN/Find it Now GPS system for his personal bike and customer’s bikes. Paul recently wanted an alarm on his bike and contacted FIN/Find It Now GPS Recovery Systems and tried one out. It is still on his bike because he loves it so much. “I’ve used different alarms over the last 25+ years, but nothing compares to the function and features that FIN offers. I like it so much that I’m going to start offering them for my customer’s bikes”, Paul exclaimed. “I couldn’t be happier than I am with FIN...Thanks Find It Now…”

We’ve already started to install the units on all of our TRO bikes and off-road vehicles. For security reasons, I’m not going to share a picture of the unit or where they are mounted on our bikes; but lets just say that it’s small and waterproof – and pretty easy to hide. The basic package which includes everything you need is priced at $595 (MSRP) and includes the first year of service. Additional years are just $79.95. All in all, that’s a great deal on a bit of peace of mind. Especially if you’ve spent more than 10x that just fixing her up and making her yours. For more information and to locate a dealer near you, visit them online at www. finditnowusa.com. Or call 855-4-FINGPS 9a-5p EST, Mon-Fri.

Italian Stuffed Chicken Serve 4 (or 2 hungry bikers)

Loaded Baked Cauliflower 3 tbsp butter 4 cups cauliflower, diced small (I use the frozen pre-cut cauliflower made by Green Giant) 4 oz sour cream 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese ½-1 cup real bacon bits (I buy the premade ones) 1 whole egg ¼ tsp garlic powder salt and pepper to taste Pinch ground nutmeg ½ cup ground pork rinds Extra handful of cheese and bacon bits for topping 2 tbsp diced chives (garnish) • • • • • • • • •

Preheat oven to 350 degrees In a frying pan melt the butter and add in the cauliflower Cook until tender then remove from heat and allow to cool (You can do this in the microwave, but I find the flavor and texture is better in a frying pan) Meanwhile, mix the sour cream, cheddar cheese, bacon bits, egg, garlic powder, salt, pepper and nutmeg together in a bowl Add in the cooled cauliflower and mix well to be sure everything is coated Pour mixture into a casserole dish In a small bowl mix the extra bit of cheese and bacon with the pork rinds and sprinkle mix on top of the cauliflower casserole Bake for 40 minutes until top is bubbly and golden brown Serve with chives sprinkled on top

Cals 650, Sat fat4.1g, Carbs 5.3g, Fiber 1.1g 4 large chicken breast ½ cup parmesan cheese, grated (for crust) 1 tsp black pepper Salt to taste ½ cup ricotta cheese ½ cup parmesan cheese, shred or grated (for stuffing) 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shred 1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped 1 tbsp garlic, minced ¼ tsp oregano 2 cups baby spinach, chopped ½ cup fresh sun dried tomatoes, diced 2 tsp olive oil • • • • • • •

• •

Preheat oven to 400 and coat a baking sheet with cooking spray Cut each chicken breast length wise so it opens like a book, but do NOT cut all the way through, you need it to be connected on one side to hold the stuffing Coat completely, on all sides, with parmesan cheese Mix the ricotta, parmesan, basil, garlic, oregano, spinach, and tomato in a bowl Stuff the chicken with ricotta mix and roll in more parm (optional) so its good and coateded Stick tooth picks through the chicken to keep closed, and set aside Heat the oil in a skillet and lightly brown the stuffed

chicken on both sides (about 3-4 minutes each side) Place onto the baking sheet and cook in the oven for about 25-35 minutes until cooked through Serve hot!

FUNNY STUFF BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS A GOOD LAUGH NOW AND THEN... To Cougn or not to Cough The owner of a drug store walks in to find a guy leaning heavily against a wall...

Recently a routine police patrol parked outside a bar. After last call the officer noticed a man leaving the bar so intoxicated that he could barely walk. The man stumbled around the parking lot for a few minutes, with the officer quietly observing. After what seemed an eternity in which he tried his keys on five different vehicles, the man managed to find his truck and trailer and fall into it. He sat there for a few minutes as a number of other patrons left the bar and drove off. Finally, he got into the car and started the engine, switched the wipers on and off....(it was a fine, dry summer night), flicked the blinkers on and off a couple of times, honked the horn and then switched on the lights. He moved the vehicle forward a few inches, reversed a little and then remained still for a few more minutes as some more of the other patrons’ vehicles left. Finally, when his was the only car left in the parking lot, he pulled out and drove slowly down the road. The police officer, having waited patiently all this time, now started up his patrol car, put on the flashing lights, promptly pulled the man over and administered a breathalyzer test. To his amazement, the breathalyzer indicated no evidence that the man had consumed any alcohol at all! Dumbfounded, the officer said, ‘I’ll have to ask you to accompany me to the police station. This breathalyzer equipment must be broken.’ ‘ I seriously doubt it’, said the truly proud Hillbilly. ‘Tonight I’m the designated decoy.’

The owner asks the clerk, “What’s with that guy over there by the wall?” The clerk says, “Well, he came in here this morning to get something for his cough. I couldn’t find the cough syrup, so I gave him an entire bottle of laxative.” “You idiot! You can’t treat a cough with laxatives!”

Three Bikers, a Honda Rider, a BMW Rider and a Harley Rider were sitting in a sauna. Suddenly, there was a continuing beeping sound. The Honda Rider pressed his forearm and the beeping stopped. The others looked at him questioningly. “That was my pager, “he said, “I have a micro chip under the skin of my arm.” A few minutes later a phone rang. The BMW Rider lifted his palm to his ear. When he finished he explained, “That was my mobile phone. I have a micro chip in my hand.”

“Oh yeah? Look at him, he’s afraid to cough!” Caught with your pants down Three women are walking down the street late one evening in a small village, when from the bar they see a man stubble out and fall face first into a mud puddle. They ran up to him and rolled him over but couldn’t tell who he was, one of the women pulled his pants down looked and said... “That’s not MY husband” the second woman looked and said...”Nope, that’s not your husband” The third woman looked and replied “He’s not even from our village” Crumpled Up A woman said to her cheating husband “Do you want to see a crumpled up $50” And he said “yes” So she reached into her pocket pulled it out and gave it to him. Then she said “do you want to see a crumpled up $100” And he said “yes” So she reached into her pocket pulled it out and gave it to him. Then she said “ Do you want to see a crumpled up $50,000 and he said “yes” So she said go look for your car in the garage then

The Harley Rider felt decidedly low tech. Not to be outdone, he decided he had to do something just as impressive. He stepped out of the sauna and went to the bathroom. He returned with a piece of toilet paper hanging from his butt. The others raised their eyebrows and stared at him. The Harley Rider finally declared… “Well, will you look at that, I’m getting a fax!” A farmer and his brand new bride were riding home from the chapel in a wagon pulled by a team of horses, when the older horse stumbled. The farmer said, “That’s once.” A little further along, the poor old horse stumbled again. The farmer said, “That’s twice.” After a little, while the poor old horse stumbled again. The farmer didn’t say anything, but reached under the seat, pulled out a shotgun and shot the horse. His brand new bride raised all kind of hell with him, telling him, “That was an awful thing to do.” The farmer said, “That’s once.”
