One of our most popular articles last year was our feature on World War II Motorcycle Scout, Retired Platoon Sgt. Berton Peepers which we ran in our July issue last year. Peepers began the war as a Motorcycle Scout and Messenger for Patton in North Africa and ended the war as a Tank Commander in Germany. I recently had a chance to visit with the 94 year old veteran and heard some great new stories that we will soon be sharing. Before we do so, though, I wanted to re-run the original article before adding a new batch of tales from World War II. If you missed it before, you’ll find it starting on page 36. I’ve always believed that Thunder Roads Ohio was more than simply a “motorcycle magazine”, although I’m not really sure what that even means. Certainly we feature motorcycles themselves along with articles on how to ride and maintain them. We also cover rides, rallies, and ride destinations; as well as bike shows, swap meets, and bike nights as well – all across the state and beyond. We also broaden our horizons a little by covering other areas which we consider of interest to our readers – such as recipes, jokes, tattoos, and even 2nd Amendment issues. And that’s where we start to upset some folks. It’s never been our intention to be a political magazine - but I certainly don’t think anyone should shy away from issues of citizenship and service to our nation. Along these lines we spend a lot of time focusing on veteran’s issues and honoring those that have served. I also think that it’s important that we share issues that face us all as Americans. Our entire government is built upon the idea of informed and active citizens holding our government accountable. I make that statement not as a challenge to our current regime or any political party, but as a core part of the fabric that holds this nation together. If those in office do things that are against our best interests - it is upon the citizens to make ourselves heard. And amazingly, bikers often have the loudest voices when it comes to national issues. For instance, no other segment of the population seems as focused on active support to our service men and women than bikers. When extremists began harassing the families of those lost in conflicts over seas – it was the Patriot Guard Riders (BIKERS) that rose to the challenge. When veterans are in need of assistance – it is so often groups such as Rolling Thunder and other organizations that answer the call, backed by the riding community. I’m proud of being a biker, and a lot of that has nothing to do with my ride. It has to do with the company that I keep. I’m proud to be a part of a community of brothers and sisters that do not take our freedom for granted and are never afraid to step up and be heard. I’m proud that bikers actively serve our communities and hold our government accountable. I don’t say that in the spirit of being rebellious – but with an understanding that active citizens such as us founded this nation. And while far too many seem to be complacent and passive these days – the bikers remain active and diligent in service to our community and nation. When I hear the tales of Bert Peepers, it makes me proud to an American and it comes as no surprise that he started off the war riding a motorcycle! As always I welcome your feedback anytime. You can email me directly at ThunderRoadsOhio@gmail.com. I’d also invite everyone to join us on facebook, where we often have some active discussions. I moderate the page myself and we have a lot of cool stuff on there – including over 10,000 event photos! If you’re not already a fan – stop on by and check it out. Thanks again for your support – which allows us to do what we do! Derek Smith 2013 Thunder Roads Publisher of the Year www.facebook.com/thunderroadsohio

As told by

The Iron Cowboy Last year, Buckeye Current shocked the racing world with a ground shattering 3rd place finish in their inaugural effort at the 2013 TT Zero. The student formed, student run team applied their engineering education to create the cutting edge, all electric motorcycle RW-2 that dominated the brutal Snaefell Mountain Course at the Isle of Man, averaging 90.43 mph. This cements Buckeye Current as the fastest collegiate electric motorcycle team. The team looks to carry this momentum to the 2014 TT Zero.

Harley-Davidson goes Electric Just as we were putting the finishing touches on this month’s magazine, “The Factory” made an announcement that surprised many. Harley-Davidson was pulling the trigger on a complete launch of an entirely electric motorcycle – known as Livewire.

Buckeye Current was founded as the Buckeye Electric Motorcycle Race Team by students in 2010 through the Ohio State University’s Center for Automotive Research in order to provide students experience with electric vehicles and to construct a fully operable electric motorcycle to compete in races on both the national and international level. The team’s first motorcycle, RW-1, set a speed record for electric motorcycles at the East Coast Timing Association at Maxton, North Carolina, at 112 miles per hour before resetting it at Wilmington, Ohio, at 144 miles per hour.

Many in the industry are taking this as a shock, as Harley-Davidson is often viewed as the epitome of tradition and conservative changes as they approach the market. After their recent move with the liquid cooled Street bikes, however, you’d think them going after yet another segment of the riding market would be expected rather than a shock. Maybe the surprise is that Harley would go after a segment that represents such a small portion of the market. Zero Motorcycles, out of California, currently leads the industry in terms of electric motorcycles – yet is only expecting to sell about 2,400 of them this year. Harley-Davidson, on the other hand, sold more than 260,000 gas powered, conventional motorcycles last year. After having the chance to road test a Zero last year, this move comes as no surprise to me though. Riding a virtually silent motorcycle that almost instantly goes as fast as you’d like (there’s no clutch or gears on an electric bike) was an absolute blast. It’s hard to imagine an experience more akin to flying on our own than riding that Zero.

TRO fans Ed and Rachel with the Buckeye Current team after their podium finish at the Isle of Man.

It’s impossible to get off a Zero and not believe that electric motorcycles are the way of the future. While they certainly aren’t there yet, I’m guessing Harley has no interest in being behind anyone when it comes to the future of riding. Speaking of electric motorcycles…. BUCKEYE CURRENT Defends Podium Finish in 2014 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Zero Race The Ohio State University Buckeye Current electric motorcycle race team placed third in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) Zero race for the second year in a row. The only U.S. collegiate team to compete in the 2014 TT Zero, Buckeye Current earned a podium finish and set a new collegiate record with an average speed of 93.51 mph. Among of a field of professional competitors, Buckeye Current’s Rob “Bullet” Barber steered RW 2.X to a narrow victory of 0.37 seconds over Belgian race team Sarolea. 8

BMW rider Valerie Thompson shatters motorcycle speed record at the Ohio Mile and becomes newest member of exclusive ECTA 200 MPH Club (Scottsdale, AZ) – June 10, 2014 – It only took 28 seconds for sixtime land speed record holder and one of the world’s fastest BMW motorcycle racers, Valerie Thompson, to shatter the East Coast Timing Association’s one-mile record in the MPS/Modified Class during the recent Ohio Mile competition. Thompson piloted her BMW S 1000 RR to 208.71 mph, easily breaking the former record of 205 mph. Thompson’s new record also qualified her for membership in the exclusive ECTA 200 MPH Club while claiming bragging rights as the fastest RR in the MPS/F-1000 Class. “Going into this event, my confidence was very high. I had just completed the California Superbike School held in Birmingham, the best motorcycle racing course school in the US. We made a few modifications to my DoubleR by adding new HP Race Parts provided by BMW Motorrad USA, Akrapovic exhaust systems and additional horsepower with Magic Bullet Advance Fuel Treatment. The wonderful folks at NorthStar Battery also helped us with special delivery of their excellent batteries, which was a great help,” said team owner and rider Thompson. “It is a great honor and achievement to be the newest member of the ECTA’s 200 MPH Club, especially since I am only the 3rd female of less than 100 members. I’ll be wearing my ECTA 200 MPH Club lifetime member shirt proudly,” added a smiling Thompson.

Attendees to the three-day festival of vintage motorcycling will experience a special Indian Motocycle-themed tent on the Mid-Ohio infield featuring beautiful examples of classic Indian machines, as well as the latest machines from the new Indian Motorcycle. In addition, a full demo fleet of Indian Motorcycles will be at the event, allowing attendees to get a feel for the Indian Motorcycle line-up.

The ECTA hosts four speed trial events at the Airborne Park facility in Wilmington Ohio each year. Prior to moving to the Airborne Park location in 2012, the ECTA held the competition in Maxton North Carolina from 1995 through 2011 and was named the Maxton Mile. Thompson and her BMW team now turn their sights on setting new land speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats during the August speed trials. For details, visit ValerieThompsonRacing.com.

“Few of motorcycling’s great brands have as much history as Indian Motocycle, which began in 1901 and helped define the pre-WWII motorcycling era with iconic models like the Indian Scout and Chief,” said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman. “With the modern revival of the Indian Motorcycle name being backed by Polaris Industries, we’re excited to celebrate the brand’s iconic motorcycling history, as well as its future.” Indian Motorcycle Vice President Steve Menneto says the company is looking forward to showcasing its new models to some of motorcycling’s most die-hard enthusiasts. “It is a real honor to our entire team for Indian Motorcycle to be selected Marque of the year for AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days,” said Menneto. “We know that enthusiasts of all brands come to this event, and the chance to not only celebrate where the Indian Motorcycle came from but to display and ride where we are heading is going to make a for a fantastic weekend.” A fundraiser for the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days features classic motorcycles of all makes and styles, and honors the riders who made them famous. Activities include the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships, which include amateur national championship road racing, motocross, hare scrambles, trials and dirt-track; North America’s largest motorcycle swap meet; bike shows and awards; stunt shows; demo rides of current production bikes; an AMA Life Member breakfast; and seminars on a number of topics by noted motorcycling experts. Dear TRO June 1, 2014 marked our 3rd Annual B.A.A.N.C.’s “Owen Barker Memorial Scholarship Poker Run. This run broke all previous records for the BAANC. We had over 140 bikes with better than 170 participants joining in It was a fantastic day, 85 sunny degrees and heartbeats of over 200 joined us with Pastor Robert Nickester for the Blessing of the Bikes to kick off the run. As Joe Jenkins, B.A.A.N.C. Director stepped up to the microphone to address the crowd along with his wife Pam, also a co-founder of B.A.A.N.C. and the committee members who worked so hard to make this event better than any we have had in the history of B.A.A.N.C. I couldn’t help but to remember what had brought us all here once again. The vision/ dream of Joe and Pam’s… to make a better place for children to live, to be loved and to grow into adults. To instill faith in mankind. A world that would not stand for children being abused or neglected. A vision for a better future for our children. Almost 3 years ago the B.A.A.N.C.’s decided to dedicate this run in the memory of Owen Barker, who’s life was taken at the tender age of 3. His assailant will be sentenced in July 2014 for his crimes against this innocent child who was not able to defend himself during his brutal beatings by a live in boyfriend of the mother. B.A.A.N.C. Foundation has since opened up a scholarship fund in memory of little Owen and to be awarded each year to a young adult who has been stricken by abuse or neglect and would like to further their education and build a brighter future for themselves. As many already know, B.A.A.N.C. stands for “Bikers Against Abused & Neglected Children” and in those few words, we stand proud to the fact we are there for the children around the clock, year after year. The motorcycle enthusiasts, better known as “bikers” that have chosen to join our fight against child abuse and neglect in any form realizes it’s the right thing to do. The biker community has never wavered from protecting our children from harm. Our mission is to see that no child within our reach will be left alone to suffer the indecencies inflicted on them out of fear, pain, hunger, anger, hatred, tortured or murdered or without protection from assailants of all forms, whether they be parents, brothers, sisters, friends of the family, neighbors or professionals that we entrust with our children. No child should suffer at the hands of those who gave them life and are suppose to love and protect them from harm at all costs, We stand firmly alongside our fellow brother and sister bikers, that we will always be there to fight for their right to grow up in a innocent world, a world where mankind is good. The photos we present to you here are just a few of the dedicated souls who come together every year as we continue to grow bigger and better for the “CHILDREN”…. So from our hearts to yours, please come along and enthe ride!!

“LOOK TWICE SAVE A LIFE”

It’s a mantra we hear all too many times but with the loss of a fellow rider during Ohio Bike Week perhaps it is not said enough. As a rider I try to be more vigilant when driving my car giving bikers much more room than perhaps I would a car. And as a rider I do what I can to protect myself from distracted drivers and those that do not realize that we are capable of speeds as fast as that of a car. The use of cell phones and texting while driving has reached what I would term epidemic proportions. No one is that important that they cannot wait until they have safely pulled off the road or arrived at their destination before reading or sending a text. Your Facebook Page can wait for a post as can that Tweet or Instagram photo you want your friends to see. You will enjoy speaking to that friend that called much more if you can give them your undivided attention when you have stopped your car. My son came home from work the other day to tell us he had seen it all. He was following a woman who had been driving unsafely on the highway only to pass her to see that she was holding one phone to her ear and texting on another. Although we do not know the exact circumstances of the accident that took a life last Saturday as riders we must do what we can to educate and remind our friends and family to think before they get behind the wheel of a car. It begins with us. Make a concentrated effort to drive and ride responsibly. Look twice save a life. We extend our condolences during this difficult time to the families and friends of Tom and Angela Lamb. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Denise Kennedy

For Whom The Bell Tolls

As a motorcyclist myself, I have ridden in many memorial and Benefit rides over the years. We ride to support and that in itself makes me proud to be a biker. But this time and this ride it was very personal and for the first time I was the one that needed my fellow bikers support. My Best friend, Toledo, Ohio Firefighter Stephen Machinski died of injuries sustained while fighting a fire and looking for occupants in a apartment building. Also it claimed the life of Toledo, Ohio Firefighter James Dickman. Steve was 42 and had been with the department for 16 years. Jamie, 31, was newly appointed to the department in September 2013 but had previously served with the Sandusky Perkins Fire Department. I got the heart-wrenching call on January 26th 2014 at 3:49 pm from one of his best friends & fireman from the hospital to tell me before it came out on the news, and within hours several firefighters were at my door to offer support. I can’t put into words what that meant to me ... they sat there as I begged for answers, crying and recalled the last 10 years of my life with Steve spending holidays with me and my family, football Sundays that always had to have the Browns on and a frosted cold mug in the freezer waiting. He would share the “Firehouse” Recipes and hang in the kitchen to help me cook. He was a good man and a great friend. They stayed with me till late in the evening and it was then I saw first-hand what they call the “brotherhood”. These men had all lost a great friend and “brother” but they and their families were taking shifts supporting all Steve and Jamie’s family and close friends. The days and weeks passed that and the outpouring of support from first responders, police, local community among so many others was like nothing I had ever seen before. Firemen from all over the US and Canada showed up at the Funerals. They lined the streets right next to the local community ...Condolences from all over the world came in. When the family asked me to attend Cleveland’s 10th Annual Firefighters Memorial Ride because they were going to be honoring Steve and Jamie along with ten other firemen... there was no question I was going. It turned out to be a beautiful day and there were over 1.500 riders lined up around Browns Stadium to honor our fallen. The very heartfelt ceremony commenced and off went the bikes! I sat in the back of the fire truck and waved at every bike that passed, I smiled hearing Steve›s voice in my head saying be careful and wear your helmet! Always the Firemen. Thank you my fellow bikers for your support that day, the brotherhood of bikers were there and I felt it the moment I pulled into town. Thank you Cleveland and to all the Fire stations we rode past that day; their ladders over the road with hanging American flags and firemen waving! Even from the top of the ladder! Thank you Thunder Roads Ohio Magazine, you are always there covering benefits for Veterans, Active Military and First Responders. Pamela, aka “Snakecharmer” Thunder Roads Ohio Contributor

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE JULY 2014 Last month, I reported on a section of the Grow America Act that gave the Secretary of Transportation, or their designee, the ability to negotiate with state governments and their legislators in matters pertaining to helmet use. The bill number on this legislation is H.R. 4745. This bill was amended on June 9, 2014 striking the language pertaining to helmet use. We, the motorcycling community of the U.S.A., did it! We convinced our federal government (again) that mandatory helmet use was an issue best decided at the state level. To those of you that made contact with a government official on this issue, thank you. Now it’s time for a very important part of the law making process. It’s time to thank the officials that made it happen. Sponsors on the amendment were Congressman Walberg (MI) and Congressman Sensenbrenner (WI). Please take the time to thank them for leading the charge to preserve our freedom. I have a strong feeling that this is not the last we will see

of this issue in the near future. We need to continue to be vigilant. We need to grow our numbers in ABATE of Ohio, Inc. if we want to continue to ride free. Add this amendment to a list of accomplishments. THIS IS HOW WE ROLL! I’d like to clarify a comment I made in last month’s article. If someone tells me they have already done their fair share for this organization, I translate that to them not caring what happens in the present or the future. Unless you want to wear a helmet, IT IS NOT SOMEONE ELSE’S TURN TO FIGHT THIS FIGHT. We need all hands on deck ready to go for the next round of mandatory helmet legislation. SAFETY UPDATE SAFETY UPDATE SAFETY UPDATE SAFETY UPDATE SAFETY UPDATE SAFETY UPDATE Hi Friends, MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS: We are pushing this statement and for the most part it is working. We also need to keep in our minds that we, the motorcycle rider, need to ride more aware than ever before. There are more cars on the roads than ever before along with the multiplying number of motorcycles, it’s crazy. Everyone is in a hurry to get where they are going and drivers are a million miles away in their thoughts. We need to keep our attention on the road and the cars around us and not be distracted by other things. The numbers as of June 6th : 2014: Crashes 619 Fatalities 23 2013: Crashes 1132 Fatalities 33 We need to keep pushing Motorcycle Awareness, in every form we have at hand, but not forget that our riding habits mean more than anything we do. I went for a ride with new friends of friends, it was different. Everyone was on their own track all over the place and it did not make me feel safe. The friends I ride with the most ride in a formation, that meaning the left front bike is lead the right bike is beside him or just behind, always making sure that he can see himself in the left bikes mirror. Using this formation all the way to the back keeps it organized. I read an article in the past few weeks that called this riding ABATE style, and it made me proud. It’s the safest way to ride in a group. A lot of groups have their own formations but they need to be organized. Don’t be afraid to move to the back if you aren’t comfortable. There is a problem that is coming to a head in Ohio with our friends that ride year after year on a temporary permit. Let’s help them get to riding class or the DMV and get their endorsement because it is hurting all of us. Michigan has just passed a law that a person can only get a temporary permit twice in 10 years. We can police ourselves by helping our fellow riders get their endorsement and make sure they get good Insurance. It’s what a brother does. Hope everyone is having a great riding season. The weather has been great on the weekends. It will be getting even better as summer approaches. When it does rain, stop and take a break. Let the rain wash the crap off the roads, get your gear on and go riding again. Ok I’m done here and everyone be safe and careful out there. See you down the road. It becomes an subconscious reflex for you to brake, steer, and interact with the road as you roar along on your bike. A subtle flex of the wrist sends power to the wheels and in an almost seemless effort, your iron steed responds to your wishes. It’s truly an incredible feeling as bike and rider unite to conquer the open road.

Adding a passenger can build on this sensation, as the “three of you” function as one. Riding with a passenger allows you to share the joy of riding with them… sharing the experience and joy of life in the wind. Riding with a passenger on your motorcycle can be a lot of fun and extremely practical as you bring along a significant other, friend, or family member along for the ride. It’s important, though, to understand the additional responsibilities it brings to the rider – and give thought to how it changes the riding experience. For the passenger, it’s equally important that they understand how the equation works and what their role is on the back. In the terms of the whole riding experience, riding with a passenger may be the least understood and most unappreciated in terms of safety and responsibility. Thought and consideration must be given to how the bike will operate with an additional rider and how that person should inter22

act with the bike and operator. As the operator of the bike you are now responsible for the safety of your passenger. The first step is to ensure that the passenger has the proper riding gear – including proper footwear and protective eye wear. Sturdy boots covering the ankle are ideal, but full coverage for the passengers feet is essential. I will spare everyone the pictures of what happens when an unexperienced passenger with “flip flops” on tries to drag their feet on the pavement unintentionally. It’s brutal. Even just a stone or other small debris can cause serious damage to an uncovered foot at high speeds. And when the passenger recoils in pain – their weight shifts and the motorcycle is thrown off balance. It’s a bad scene. The same goes for eyewear. A bug striking the eye of the passenger can cause them serious harm. Make sure that your passenger has proper coverage for their eyes and feet – no exception.

10. Passengers can use their knees to hang onto the rider by squeezing their thighs against the rider. (On some motorcycles.) This helps the passenger maintain more stability. Before your passenger gets onto the motorcycle, make sure that you are fully situated and in control of the motorcycle. • Deploy the passenger foot pegs before they get on. • Make sure that the bike is off the side stand, upright and balanced. Both your feet should be on the ground, with you holding the front brake in. This gives you more control as they get situated on the bike. (Be warned – if your passenger gets on while the bike is on the side stand, the bike is off balance and the additional weight may cause it to fall over.) • You should have the bike running smoothly and in neutral. • It’s important to understand how carrying a passenger impacts your ability to control the motorcycle. • The extra weight of your passenger will increase the stopping power of the rear brake. • If your passenger is heavier – it will take longer to turn, slow down, or speed up. Allow more time and space for passing. • Be cautious when turning corners, since clearance may be affected. This seems like a lot, but most of this is natural and common sense if you consider everything going on. Riding with another person can truly be a great experience as you share the joy of the open road. It’s essential for everyone to recognize the amount of trust that is placed with the rider and the responsibility that they have when someone climbs on behind. With that I’d like to close with two final mandates when it comes to riding with a passenger –

CHILDREN AS PASSENGERS Children should never be carried on a motorcycle without the permission of their parent or guardian. Even if a child is wearing the appropriate protective gear and follows all safety recommendations, riding a motorcycle still poses a safety risk. It’s also important to know the legal requirements as to the minimum age of a passenger in your state. For safety reasons, you should never ride with children unable to reach the passenger foot pegs or that aren’t old enough to follow instructions for an extended period of time (hmmmm… do they ever?). It’s also important to make sure that they have proper fitting safety gear. An oversized helmet not only won’t do the job but can serve as an irritant to the child while riding and a distraction to you as they fidget and struggle with it. You should never ride with a child in front of you for a variety of reasons, most of which should be obvious. That means that they are behind you which does present a whole new set of problems in regards to control and concern over the child simply falling off the bike. Holding onto a rider may be difficult for small hands and short arms. Children, even older ones, can also simply fall asleep on the back of a bike. Sudden maneuvering on the bike or stopping can also cause a child to fall off. The aftermarket has a number of solutions to these concerns – including a variety of belts and riding harnesses that offer additional hand holds or even directly connect the child to you. Researching this article, we found a number of interesting products – including the “BackRider Belt”. This particular item seemed to include a pretty serious harness for the child and then a large belt that goes around the rider’s waist. It would appear as though it would be impossible for the child to fall off – unless you do. We will look further into these and follow up with an additional Product Review with our conclusions.

#1 – Never take a passenger on a bike when you don’t have complete confidence in the motorcycle and your ability to safely control it. #2 – As a passenger, NEVER ride with anyone that you don’t have complete confidence in. As always – RIDE SAFE and we hope to see you out on the open roads! 24

This photo was taken in Thailand where entire families are commonly seen riding on motorcycles. However, if the rider had to stop suddenly or if he rear-ended a car – the two children in front would most likely be ejected and the one between him and his wife might be squashed. Since none of the children have any protection, their injuries would be extensive. Thunder Roads® Magazine OHIO

This past weekend I attended the opening of Ohio Bike Week in Sandusky, Ohio. Friday night at Mad River HD wasn’t all that crowded but the main event was scheduled elsewhere. Saturday and Sunday were a different story. Saturday morning at Fox Cycles was the starting point for Kristina McGraw Memorial Ride – Lighthouse Run. Several CMA’ers attended this event and Rod McMaster was asked to do a corporate Bike Blessing prior to the start of the run and several wanted a one-onone Bike Blessing. As the group left Fox Cycles, we traveled to Vermilion Lighthouse to spend a few minutes take pictures and then back on our way. Except for a few who stayed behind to help a fellow biker whose bike had no electrical power whatsoever. After locating the problem and repairing the bike, the repair crew caught up at the Marblehead Lighthouse, although I’m sure we didn’t take the same route as the main party. At Marblehead we enjoyed the view and took more pictures, then were off to Fox Cycles to complete the run. Visiting these lighthouses reminded me of a story I once heard which goes something like this: It was a dark night off the Atlantic Coast, and the captain saw a disaster just ahead - a light that was on a collision course with his ship. There wasn’t much time to get the other vessel to change course. So he urgently radioed this message: “Move ten degrees north immediately.” The answer came back, “Move ten degrees south.” This was no time for playing navigational games! With some growing aggravation, the captain answered back, “I’m a captain! You adjust your course ten degrees north.” The reply came back: “I’m a seaman second class! Adjust ten degrees south.” At that point, the captain thundered his final word: “I’m a destroyer - adjust your course now!” And the answer came back: “I’m a lighthouse! Adjust your course!” Joshua 1:7-8 says, “Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.” NASV These verses are not saying if you are a Christian you will not have problems. It was given to Joshua by God as he led Israel into the Promise Land after Moses’ death. God was telling Joshua the way is not going to be easy, but Joshua needed to be strong, courageous, obey God’s law, read and study it continuously to be a successful leader in God’s eyes. Today, God’s Word, the Bible, is the Lighthouse for our individual lives. Like Joshua, we need to study God’s Word (the Bible) continuously; be strong in our faith; courageous in our stance of what God’s Word says; and obey God’s Word though our actions and word. We cannot be like the captain of the destroyer and tell God how we will live, we must listen to what He tells us and change our course in life. GR (Jerry) Niver

or Ohio motorcycle enthusiasts, one event kicks off the season unlike any other. It’s the Midwest’s largest motorcycle – Ohio Bike Week, held every year on the shores of Lake Erie. And while they are still assessing the numbers, all indications are that this was the largest edition yet of the North Coast motorcycle rally. “From the look of things, we estimate that overall attendance was up at least 20-25% this year over last,” estimates Brad Stofchek, President of Advantage Entertainment which produces Ohio Bike Week. “Every indication is that this was our biggest year ever overall – a lot of which can be attributed to a great first weekend.” “Our opening concert (Warrant) in Toledo had double the attendance of last year,” Stofcheck continued.

The Toledo concert was indeed packed for a weather perfect evening of 80’s rock as Warrant took the stage. Thunder Roads Ohio came out for the show and had plenty riders from southeastern Michigan and Indiana stop by the booth as well as virtually the entire Toledo riding community.

Jeff A, from Sylvania, told TRO, “We couldn’t wait for Bike Week to get here this year – after the winter we had.” After the opening night in Toledo, focus shifted towards Sandusky for the feature concert of L.A. Guns and Kix at the Yuengling Pavilion on the Mad River Harley-Davidson campus. Once again, perfect weather brought out the riders and a great crowd turned out for the first Saturday in Sandusky. A large stage and tented area were set up just north of the dealership and vendors filled the surrounding lots. All day long a steady flow of riders came through – culminating with the evening concerts which drew a packed house. Admittedly it seemed as though the majority of the crowd was there for the Rally itself rather than the entertainment as many seemed to have no idea who “Kix” was. Once lead singer Steve Whiteman finished inviting everyone out to the parking lot for a “hickey” – he got around to some songs that even some of the younger rockers recognized and enjoyed. As with most of the other 80’s hair bands that serve as rally staples – Kix did draw in some of the older riders that remembered seeing them in high school or their early 20’s. Their real trick, though, is to fire up a party crowd with songs that everyone

seems to recall hearing on the radio but can’t quite put their finger on. Sunday morning started off with CMA services on the Main Stage at the Mad River Campus and then a day of riding for many. Over at Knuckleheads in Huron, the 3rd Annual Owen Barker Memorial Poker Run was held by our friends at B.A.A.N.C. (Bikers Against Abused & Neglected Children Find em’ on Facebook). This ride has grown every year and the near perfect weather made for one of the best rides yet! (Extra coverage on the Owen Barker Run on page XX.) Folks returned to Mad River H-D for a night of country music with a great line-up, kicking off with local favorite Rutherford County then Rodney Parker and Liberty Beach fired things up for the headliner – Mustang Sally! These gals from Nashville are a Bike Week favorite returning for another OBW Country Sunday.

Things slowed down for the first few days of the week as a light batch of rain passed through and riders enjoyed a number of great rides organized by the folks at Mad River Harley-Davidson. Tuesday featured the ever popular Prison Ride to the Mansfield Reformatory and Wednesday was Kelley’s Island Day as bikers took the ferry over to ride the island. We’ve heard a lot of people say that hitting the islands is the best thing about Ohio Bike Week (next to the Block Party!) and Kelley’s is the one to ride! For most riders, this was the first time they had ever taken their bikes on a ferry. Once on the island, the Kelley’s Island Chamber of Commerce once again hosted their annual Dice Run. Popular stops included The Village Pump, Kelleys Island Winery, and the Kelleys Island Casino. Thursday marked the kick-off of the Block Party, which is Bike Week for many. A few riders, though, suggested that OBW consider renaming Thursday – JESSE JAMES DUPREE DAY, as Jesse certainly seemed the defacto host of the day. The lead singer of Jackyl and star of the Full Throttle reality television show started the day by officiating a wedding at Mad River H-D before leading hundreds out on his annual Pancreatic Cancer ride. He and his riders then returned to

“I loved every minute ofLoitts! of ! Great Shows! Great Food ! It was Booze! A lot of cool ru, ns a blast!” - Peggy G Amherst Sandusky just in time to join the Thunder Roads Ohio crew at the Comfort Inn for the Annual Bikini / Calendar Contest. Once again the pool deck of the Comfort Inn was standing room only at least two hours before the event was scheduled to take place. The party band TURN n COUGH entertained the crowd and kept things hopping while everyone enjoyed the newly remodeled patio bar and pool area. The packed house wasn’t disappointed as a handful of beautiful women strutted their stuff around the pool and then took to the stage in order to woo the crowd with their dancing ability. The lovely Andrea took the title for 2014, while her Mom not only watched but danced alongside her in the contest. As evening fell, the party moved downtown and the bikers took to the streets! Jesse James led Jackyl through a great show on the Backlot Stage, while the Phillip Fox Band delivered their “Southern Fried Country” from the Jagermeister Stage at the head of Columbus Ave. I had last seen Phillip Fox and his crew when they performed as part of the Autism Benefit during Easyrider Weekend earlier this year, and they seemed right at home on the feature stage across from Jackyl. Riders had the best of both worlds – able to enjoy either show or even parts of both by simply cutting through the State Theatre or rounding the block. And lest we forget, Jasmine Cain who kept the party going out on the Pier at the Barrel House Saloon. She delivered incredible performances all weekend – kicking it off with a more intimate show from the balcony of the remodeled Barrel House. It was a great kick off to the Block Party with perfect weather, great performances by cranked up entertainers, and a city full of bikers! There was no end of things to do Friday as the crowds swelled with riders came into the city for the weekend. The Make-a-Wish Winery Tour took off from Mad River H-D as

the Freestyle riders took flight behind them. Downtown the stages came alive with great regional acts such as Oblivia and Rodney Parker, while the daredevils took to attacked the walls of the American Motor Drome on the Jackson St. Pier. It was a fun day with plenty to do and see. Then as evening arrived, Unsaid Fate – featuring the dynamic Jackie, fired up a packed crowd before turning the stage over to Pop Evil in the Back Lot. Saturday morning brought the custom bikes down to Columbus Avenue for the OBW Bike Show. Sanctioned and judged by the International Master Bike Builders Association this was a test for veteran builders that stepped up the challenge of being critiqued by industry professionals. Then while enthusiasts browsed the show bikes – the parade arrived. The Ohio Bike Week Parade is a staple of the rally and this year brought more than 1,200 bikes roaring into downtown Sandusky in a steady stream of iron and enthusiastic riders. The party continued all day and into the evening – culminating with regional favorites THE END and Earthquakers on the two main stages and Rebel Son closing things out at the Barrel House. All year long we had the opportunity to work with the folks at Ohio Bike Week as they prepared for this one week and expectations were never higher as they headed into this year’s edition of THE MIDWESTS LARGEST MOTORCYCLE EVENT. It was great seeing it all come together and with a little help from the weather – delivering on all accounts. As proud partners within the motorcycle community we greatly appreciate all the work that goes into creating an event of this scale and are glad that it appeared to be a tremendous success. The local paper may have said it best. “Hats off to Bike Week..”, The Sandusky Register proclaimed, “They’ve had to overcome

thunder zone Our biggest Thunder Zone EVER!

Downtown, Thunder Roads Ohio was pleased to welcome Photos by D. Smith, Jennifer G, Bob Mazur, Aimee Ritz, Dan rally attendees to our new BIKE WEEK THUNDER ZONE at Hare, Nancy Beach, Doug & Cheryl and other TRO Contribu- the Sandusky State Theatre. A cooperative effort with the Thetors. Thanks for everyone’s help with covering the Rally! atre, sponsored by INDIAN OF TOLEDO and GREAT LAKES BREWING; the Bike Week Thunder Zone featured an array of talented tattoo artists in the Iron n Ink Zone and possibly the world’s most celebrate motorcycle artist – David Uhl and a complete gallery of his work on display for the enjoyment of enthusiasts. In the beautiful theatre itself, we showed the acclaimed documentary WHY WE RIDE – which seemed to fire up everyone that saw it; and throughout the theatre we showcased amazing machines. Our friends at Indian of Toledo brought out a number of new 2014 Indian Motorcycles which drew attention from just about everyone that walked by. In addition to the new Indians, we also had a number of amazing custom builds on display as well. These included Huey Schwebs’ 1943 ULH Flathead which we featured on our June 2014 cover, Tennessee Steve’s award winning tribute to the Spirit of the South, and three amazing builds from Andy McCaslin’s Porky’s Choppers. Andy has been one of our favorite builders for some time, and we felt privileged to have his latest build “Miss Understood” on hand. This masterpiece was created for the Discovery Channel’s Builder Live show and just unveiled that week on national television. In addition, Andy brought out his “One Sided Bike” and the Porky’s Wagon Wheel Bike – which made itself quite at home during our Barrel House Saloon photo shoot. While the tattoo zone and movies had been running since the first weekend, the rest of the Thunder Zone really kicked off with the Block Party and we were overwhelmed by the response. We had sought to create a unique stop for motorcycle enthusiasts attending the rally and it seemed as though our message was well received. Great crowds packed the Theatre all weekend and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Everything just seemed to flow smoothly, which was clearly the result of a lot of hard work by team members that certainly deserve credit for the long hours they put in. We had the pleasure of working with a number of friends from past rallies as well as new partners that we hope to work many more with. We’d especially like to thank David Taylor, Shari Peace, Tim Kostel, and the entire State Theatre team for all of their hard work during the Rally and leading up to it. This was something entirely new for most of them and they certainly rose to the challenge. We certainly consider it to be one of the most successful first year projects that we’ve ever done.

e looked forward to it… it happened and now it’s gone for another year and we are still talking about it! Yes! Ohio Bike Week was amazing this year with more bikers and bikes than ever before! And some new additions to the event added to the excitement including some vendors and events on Jackson Street Pier. The Sandusky State Theatre got involved this year by hosting the location for Thunder Roads Ohio…The Thunder Zone! You literally could not walk 10 feet inside the theatre without a way to quench your thirst. And, besides the many bars, you found bike displays, Tattoo Alley and David Uhl, in person, meeting people and talking about his beautiful art. (As you know, he is the artist in residence for Harley Davidson and was a tremendous asset to this year’s festivities!)

Nature that provided the best weather you can imagine for the downtown Block Party! Enough said! Take a look at the pictures and you will get the idea that this is something you will want to attend every year! And, even though I was pretty busy, I managed a short ride…on the back of the bike!

Another very successful OBW and a big shout out goes to Steve, Brad and their staff for putting on the party of the year! And a big thank you to Mother

World War II Combat on a Harley-Davidson: Africa 1943 First American Soldiers meet the British Army, 70 years ago, April 7, 1943 By Platoon Sgt. Berton Peepers, Retired In 1943 Allied forces of the Western Task Force under the command of Major general George C. Patton were operating in North Africa. He was attacking the Axis powers, specifically, German Field Marshall Erwin Rommel, notoriously called “the Desert Fox”. The 899th Tank Destroyer Battalion was part of the Western Task Force and was providing support for the battles at Gafsa and el Guettar. I was a messenger with the 899th Tank Destroyer Battalion attached to its command post and it was my duty to carry messages, by motorcycle, between Battalion command and my Company Com-

mander. After landing at Casablanca January 25th, 1943 we trained in desert warfare and broke in the new equipment we were issued. Where we were bivouacked I could see, from my pup tent, the white building where on January 14, 70 years ago, Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Charles DeGaulle met in Casablanca. On one training exercise we had to get into a fox hole and have one of our tanks run over us. They had about 12 fox holes all in a row. I was in the last hole. I could hear that tank coming and the ground shaking. I had a feeling that something just wasn’t right. When he got over my fox hole he turned the tank right on top of me and the side of my fox hole caved in on me. They blew the whistle to get up; I couldn’t move. They yelled “Peepers get up!” I yelled back “I can’t”. So they had to dig me out. I was ok, but a little shook up. This is what they call ” friendly fire”. I had plenty of that in France, Belgium and Germany. When I got my new Harley Davidson about three weeks after we arrived at Casablanca, Africa, I had to put 500 miles on it to break it in. That fun ended on March 1st, 1943 when we started the long trip to the front. It took us 7 ½ days and 36

1,400 miles. I got a good view of Africa riding my motorcycle. Some mornings when I got up I had frost all over me and my motorcycle. One day I got so cold riding I had to stop and jump up and down on the road to warm up. A French farmer saw me and had one of his workers bring a big arm full of straw and set it on fire so I could get warm. It sure helped a lot. We arrived at our new bivouac area on March 14, 1943. It was just east of Bouchebka which is just across the Algerian border in Tunisia. East of Tunisia is Libya. This is the area where the British and Germans had been fighting for about 3 or 4 years. Last year with the war in Libya, television reports showed Libya and all of North Africa: the whole area where I spent 10 months and put about 3 thousand miles on my motorcycle. It was during this time that I stole little Moe, our “C” Company mascot, on orders from my First Sergeant. When the Sergeant wanted a jeep driver, he always picked me. I had to drive him and another first Sergeant into town and the first stop was a bar. The Bartender and owner had a little black puppy that belonged to his little daughter. He put it up on the bar so we could pet it. The Sergeant put a little brandy in a saucer and the puppy got drunk. The first Sergeant said to me, “Peepers, when we get ready to leave, you put the puppy in your jacket”. I said, “Sergeant the puppy belongs to the bartender’s little daughter, I can’t do that”. He said, “It’s an order!” So that is how we got our company mascot. Little Moe went to Italy, England, France, Belgium and Germany with us. In England Moe liked to ride on my motorcycle. I was in the hospital when Little Moe got left in a German house being used as the Company command post. They pulled out

during the night and forgot about Moe. The last time I saw Moe, she was setting on a soldiers lap in a big army truck that went by me as I was standing on a street corner in a small town in Germany. That was the first and the last time I saw Moe since a week before “D” day, June 1st 1944. Moe landed at Utah beach on “D” Day and I landed on Omaha Beach June 10th. On the morning of April 7th at about 7:00am I was given a message originating from Patton’s headquarters to deliver to the Company “C” Commander of the 899th. The message contained orders to move his tanks up toward Tunis. They spread a map of the area over the hood of a jeep and showed me the “C” Company location and said they were getting ready to pull out and might be gone by the time I got there. I was directed to find them and make sure the Captain got the message. On this assignment I met the British in Africa. We were about one mile into no-man’s-land. The Germans were retreating and the British were attacking and I and George Keyges were in between. That is no-man’sland. George A. Kegyes Jr., a tank driver from my company was looking for a ride back to “C” Company. He had just gotten out of the hospital and had one of his hands still bandaged. I told him to get on the back of my motorcycle since we were going to the same place. For the next half hour we didn’t see another soldier or hear any shooting. It was quiet except for my loud motorcycle. At one point we took a spill and damaged the muffler at the end of the exhaust pipe so I took it off. We got to where “C” Company was supposed to be but they had already pulled out. We stopped on a small hill and, looking around, did not see any soldiers or vehicles. We did see about five or six wild camels and they were moving fast right toward us. I told George we needed to get out of there. Something had spooked the camels. We continued down the road looking for “C” Company. George saw a scout car on a hill off to our right so I stopped the motorcycle to get a better look. I think they were watching us closely and were probably scouting for Germans. I knew it wasn’t an American scout car and I hadn’t heard anything about the British being that close. I knew the German Army was close because we had been fighting them for the last five months. I told George we should go down the road a little further and then we will turn back if we didn’t see Company “C”. We went over a small hill and right in front of us was the British 8th Army convoy. They were stopped and standing by their trucks and tanks. When they saw we were Americans, they let out a yell, “Yanks, Yanks!” and their cheers ran down the convoy. They shook our hands and took our picture. We were as much a boost to their morale as they were to ours. We spent about five minutes with them and left to find “C” Company. We caught up with them in about a half hour. I gave the message to the Captain and I didn’t even tell him that we met the British 8th Army. I had completely forgotten about the incident until I was reading the Chronicle-Telegram on April 7th 1993 about what had happened in history 50 years ago. It described the meeting of the Americans and the British 8th Army on that date. I exclaimed to my wife that the Americans were me and George Kegyes. When George and I met the British on April 7 1943 and they let out that cheer “Yanks” and it went all the way down their convoy, I wonder how Thunder Roads Magazine OHIO ®

many times that word was said that day. We sure made lots of British soldiers happy and me and George also. It’s been 70 years and I still can hear “yanks”. About 5 hours after we met the British I took a spill on my motorcycle and ended up in the hospital for 24 days. It had happened after “C” Company pulled out. We had just had lunch and I had lingered to finish my coffee. (Since I had my own transportation, I was pretty much free to do what I wanted unless I had a specific messenger assignment.) After coffee I left and rode to catch up with Company “C”. When I caught up with the convoy, the first vehicle I passed was the maintenance truck that always brings up the rear, then the kitchen truck and then the ambulance. I just got by the ambulance and ran into a shell hole on the shoulder of the rough road and took a bad spill. The soldiers in the ambulance thought I had run over a mine or a shell had landed on me. They said I made a big cloud of dust and when it cleared up I was standing up and they could see that my collar bone was broken, and that I was dazed. I think that I completely flipped and came down on my head and right shoulder. When the medics pushed on my collar bone I passed out. They put big pieces of adhesive tape to hold my collar bone in place and started the 70 mile ambulance ride to an evacuation hospital. After we arrived they took me to a tent and laid me on the ground. I was on a stretcher and remember how dark it was in there. It was full of dead, wounded and injured soldiers. About midnight they came in and announced that we were to evacuate. All walking patients would ride in British ambulances and other patients would go by plane. I had never been in an airplane and I didn’t want to start then. I said that I could walk and that I wanted to go in the ambulance. The ambulance had

benches on both sides that held patients on each side, stacked up. I had a small burlap bag with my personal things in it. I put it on my lap and rested my arm on top of the bag to relieve the pain on my broken collar bone. We hadn’t gone very far when I got sick and vomited. They laid me on the floor and that’s where I stayed for the rest of the trip to the General Hospital in Constantine, Africa. The hospital was an arrangement of tents set up in a wheat field. The next morning I walked over to the operating tent and got my collar bone fixed and they put a jacket cast down to my waist. My arms were free to move. I had that on for 20 days. Our “barracks” were long tents and our “cots” were five or six inches of wheat. Our “air conditioning” was when we rolled up the sides of the tents. That is where I spent Easter Sunday, 1943.

By May 1st I was back with my company and got right back on my motorcycle. The operations against the Axis powers had ended in Africa while I was in the hospital. It had been a good rest for me. We didn’t have to do anything but lie around and play cards all day. The incident with the British 8th Army and my injury showed me a lot about how luck and coincidence help you survive a war. I think that is why I completely forgot about meeting the British 8th Army for 50 years. I was also lucky that I fell on my motorcycle near an ambulance rather than near the maintenance truck or alone somewhere in the desert. When I saw that article in the Elyria Chronicle, it all came back to me. Before April 7th, 1943 at the Battalion command post, I didn’t even know George Kegyes. He was from Company “C” but in a different Platoon. We were both from Ohio and lived about 13 miles from each other, I was from North Olmsted and George was from Elyria. Now I live just two streets from where George lived on 6th Street. George Kegyes is buried just miles from where I now live in Elyria.

HarleyDavidson Messenger as a Target

When I got to the old command post, the captain yelled out “Is that you Peepers?” And I said “Yes, Sir.” He said, “Follow me!” One the way back an infantry soldier yelled “Watch out there is a hole here”. It was too late; I was already in the hole. I just gave the motorcycle more gas and climbed right back out. When we got back to the new command post, the officer that was with the captain came up to me and said, “How could you see?” I said, “Sir, I couldn’t see a damn thing, I felt my way back by dragging my feet on the road”. The officer said they had a hard time following my black out light on my tail light. The Germans didn’t drop any bombs on us that night, so I got a good night’s sleep next to my motorcycle. I was surprised those bombs didn’t damage my motorcycle. Of all the bombs and artillery that we were in, we never got hit.

Command Posts were a good target for German planes and artillery especially it’s officers, vehicles and, in the following case, my motorcycle. It was in March 1943 that I was at the command post and assembled there were 2 motorcycles, two halftrack radio vehicles in addition to my motorcycle. A captain stopped for information and told his driver to put the camouflage net over his command car. Two German planes spotted that green net and attacked. The first bomb covered my fox hole and I had to use all my strength to push myself out of the hole through the dirt to get air or I would have suffocated like four other soldiers did right near me. When I stood up shaking the dirt off me and getting air, I saw the other German plane coming right at me as he released his bomb. That plane was so low that I felt like I was looking at the German pilot right in his eyes. I jumped back into my fox hole and took cover as best I could since it was full of dirt. I don’t know if I said it out loud or to myself, but I prayed “Please, God, I don’t want to die yet”. As soon as the planes left we started to dig in fox holes for the soldiers that got buried. We dug with our hands. I got hold of a soldier’s arm and another soldier helped me pull him out. He was dead. I got the order to pull out immediately because soon as those German Planes got back at their base they would give their artillery our location and they would shell us. We moved forward about two hundred yards and about one hundred yards off to the left of the black top road at the foot of some small hills. It was getting dark and I was getting in my sleeping bag because I was dead tired. An officer came up to me and said, “Peepers, you have to go back and get the Company Commander at the old command post.” And I said, “Sir, can you get someone else to go, I am too tired. He said “It’s an order” and I said “Yes, sir”. So I got on my motorcycle and counted two small hills I had to get over to get out on the black top road. By that time it was getting pretty dark and I had to drag my feet to keep on the road. The only light I had on my motorcycle was my black out light. No head lights were allowed on the front lines. 38

After the war ended in Africa, it was six more months of training before I was sent to Italy. We only stayed in Italy about ten days and they took all our equipment away from us and sent us to England for the invasion of France. There I got another new Harley Davidson. Eventually they took that one away from me and assigned me as driver of an armored car for the second in command. He never rode with me and I had it all for myself. This is the armored car I drove onto Omaha Beach June 10th, 1944. On July 20th, I was made a tank commander for the next 5 months when I was made Platoon (Staff) Sergeant. George Kegyes died 34 years ago and I put flowers on his grave last Memorial Day. I will continue to do so as I do for my close buddy who died during the war. He is buried in Ravenna, Ohio, about 60 miles from where I live. I have put flowers on his grave for 66 years. He got killed by artillery fire.

THE WAR AFTER ‘D’ DAY Recalling operations in Africa brings back a lot of memories. It became a different kind of war after “D” Day. I lived through battles in France, Belgium, and Germany. As I met the British in Africa, I met the Russians at the Elbe River in Germany. Between those events we liberated thousands of French and Belgians and many prisoner of war camps. Even the Germans were glad to see us, but not the Russians. Four times I got into no-man’s land. Although there are many stories to tell about “no-man’s land”, one I remember clearly. In Germany in 1945 my platoon officer said we have to move up to the German lines and knock out a German machine gun that has our infantry pinned down behind trees in the woods. I guess the look that I gave him caused him to say, “It is an order from the infantry Colonel, and we have to do it”. He said “come on I’ll show you where it is”. At the edge of the woods there was high grass and we got down on our bellies and crawled like a couple of snakes. A couple of times he looked back at me and whispered “keep your head down”. He pointed out to me the German machine gun. We crawled back the same way. I got in my tank and we moved up toward the machine gun. I could see our infantry lying behind the trees. I was giving the driver instructions and the gunner and we were right up in the German line. I could see the German soldiers as clearly as I could the American soldiers. I pulled out my pistol and shot at the closest Germans and hit one of them. We knocked out the machine gun and our soldiers attacked. Another time I was in a jeep and got about a mile into the German lines. There were five of us in the jeep when we saw three German soldiers coming out of a building. They ran for cover and our jeep driver slammed on the brakes and he backed down the road as fast as we could and turned the jeep around and we escaped with the three German soldiers shooting at us. No one got hit. When we got down the road about a mile we met our soldiers riding on our tanks. Our officer gave the Colonel the information and they spread the infantry out in the woods and the tanks down the road. The Germans pulled out real quick and not a shot was fired. The next day the Germans gave us a hard time before they retreated. I have many more stories to tell and now’s the time to do it. I had many close calls and spent 24 days in the hospital in Africa and about two weeks in Germany. I’m 93 years old and still in the color guard of the VFW Post 9871 in North Ridgeville, the American Legion in Elyria and the DAV in Elyria, and the Senior Fellowship of Elyria. I’m a life member of all of them.

ohio Bike Nights Grandview Euro Bike Night, One of the Most Unique Bike Nights in the State Summer and bike nights go together like cold beer and burgers, and one of the most unique bike nights in the state is held in Grandview, Ohio. Grandview Euro Bike Night began in 2007, the brainchild of Michael Small and Stephen Newton, whose vision was to have a motorcycle experience that differed from the rest. Well, GEBN is certainly different. As a regular to this event, I’ve noticed three factors that make GEBN unique.

The Bikes Bike nights are all about the bikes, and at GEBN you never know what kind of motorcycles will show up. Roll into Grandview and there’s a good chance you’ll be parking next to any number of the major European brands such as Ducati, BMW, Triumph, Aprilia, or Moto Guzzi, as each have a loyal following here. Walk through the maze of bikes and you’ll get a close up look at the beautiful European styling and technology that make these machines stand out from the crowd. If old school motorcycles are more to your taste then you won’t be disappointed as the air is often filled with the unique sounds of a historic thumper such a BSA Gold Star or a Norton Manx.

P a s s i o n for all things motorcycling is a distinct element of the men and women attending GEBN. They love to ride them, but they love to talk about them even more! On a visit here it’s likely you’ll hear a BMW owner sharing their latest travel story, a Triumph rider telling of a new route they’ve explored, or the Norton crowd discussing the latest tweaks they’ve made to their motorcycles. The folks of GEBN come from all walks of life, yet find a common ground around their love for motorcycles. As one attendee told me; “You’ll never meet a stranger here!” I hope you will mark your calendars, grab a few friends, and experience GEBN difference for yourself. Note: Euro Bike Night takes place on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Be sure and visit http://www.eurobikenight.com/ Keep the rubber side down! Rick Slark, Thunder Roads Ohio Contributor

The Venue The historic Bank Block is the heart of Grandview and the center of the city’s activity, this picturesque street is lined with grand buildings and is home to one of the best dining scenes in the Central Ohio area. On any given evening you’ll find the locals taking walks with their families, meeting friends for a light dinner, or simply relaxing over coffee. This vibrant and welcoming community is the perfect back drop for European motorcycle enthusiasts to congregate on a warm summer night.

PRESENTED BY RIDER INSURANCE & THUNDER ROADS OHIO MAGAZINE Thunder Roads Ohio is proud to announce that this summer; we will once again be hosting the BUCKEYE THUNDER RUN - a state-wide, summer-long riding challenge hitting the coolest riding destinations and events across Ohio, presented by Rider Insurance! This is a riding challenge like no-other and features great prizes every month that you earn by simply getting out to ride!

The Way it Works

State and Stop Prizes

Each month Thunder Roads Ohio will announce a list of Thunder Run Stops each month. These stops are selected based upon the recommendations of our readers and confirmed by our editors. Riders can then hit these locations and present their Rider Cards in order to register at each stop.

Every month the TRO staff will randomly select winners from the check-ins. Some prizes will be specific to the particular stop - and usually sponsored by that stop. For instance, a leather shop may award a custom leather vest to someone visiting their store during the month of June. That would be a prize specific to that stop and only riders checking in at that location would be eligible for that prize. Other prizes will be state wide, with everyone checking in at any location eligible to win!

Once a Rider has registered at the stop - their Card number is then entered into the drawing for that stop. Thunder Roads will then select rider checks-in’s randomly each month from across the state for special prizes and incentives. Extra “check-in’s” are awarded for ride stops more then 100 miles from home. Prizes are developed by both Thunder Roads and our sponsors - allowing for some exciting options. They may include stays at exciting locations, riding gear or accessories, gift certificates, cash, rally passes, concert tickets, and even the opportunity to win factory and custom motorcycles! The beauty and simplicity of this program is that anyone can win with any check-in, but your chances of winning are increased by the amount you ride! The dedicated rider treking across the state has a greater chance of accumulating prizes - but the couple that can only get out a few days a month to ride can also win! Every check-in counts as an entry in the “drawing” - so if you hit 40 stops in a month, you have twice as many chances of winning as someone that only hits 20. The more you ride - the more opportunities you will have to win! That’s the whole idea - to encourage everyone to get out and ride! Thunder Roads® Magazine OHIO

The Winners If your check-in is drawn, Thunder Roads will post your card number both online and in the magazine. Riders will then have at least 45 days to “claim” their prizes. For state-wide prizes, winners will often have the opportunity to select from a number of prize options. For instance, a rider might have the option of winning a BiketoberfestÒ Rally Package that includes accommodations and extras for attending the Fall Rally. If that rider isn’t able to take advantage of that prize - they might opt for a Premium Leather Jacket instead. • Riders are able to win multiple prizes - based upon the drawing of their check-in’s. • Some prize drawings are specific to only check-in’s for the particular month - while others prizes are drawn from check-in’s season long. • ALL CHECK-IN’s remain in the system for end of the season prizes! • Riders are able to check-in once a week at a stop (MondaySunday), for a maximum of 4 check-in’s per month (not counting bonuses).

BONUS Check-in’s!

One key aspect of the BTR is that we will be limiting the number of stops to a reasonable amount each month. We are NOT simply adding anyone willing to write a check. We will be considering stops recommended by our readers and editors, and we will only select those that offer a legitimate interest to riders – making them worth the ride to visit. We are not hosting the run as simply a means of supporting the magazine, but as a fun way to promote partners and cool destinations all across the state.

The 2014 Buckeye Thunder Run is supported by our sponsors, so we want to encourage everyone to support them in turn. For that reason, we will issue a BONUS CHECK-IN to riders spending $10 or more at the stop. The bonus criteria may be adjusted at some stops to accomodate riders or particulars of that stop. Specifics of each stop will be listed each month in Thunder Roads as part of the Stop Listing.

It’s really that simple! 1. Get your Ohio Ride Card. 2. Get the list of stops each month from your Thunder Roads Magazine, the website (ThunderRoadsOhio.com), or facebook. 3. Ride out to these stops and show them your card. 4. And then you win cool prizes, including cold hard CASH! The first step will be for riders to register for their Thunder Roads Ohio Ride Cards. A number of select locations will serve as Registration Centers. Riders can easily register at these points – free of charge. They will then receive their Ride Cards.

NEW FOR 2014 – You can request a Ride Card through our website! You can now go online and register for your Thunder Run Ride Card through our website – www. ThunderRoadsOhio.com. Simply head to the TRO Online Store and order your Ride Card. There is a $5 convenience fee for this option – but ALL PROCEEDS are applied to our Warrior Fund, sponsoring charitable motorcycle events and organizations across Ohio. PLEASE NOTE - You can still use your past Ohio Ride Cards. All Ride Card registrations carry over. Thunder Roads will also be registering riders for Ride Cards at specific events throughout the year as we distribute magazines. Key events, such as Ohio Bike Week or Bike Nights will have special booth for Ride Card registrations. In most cases, we will be offering special incentives both for those registering for the cards and those checking in with their previously issued cards at these stops. Thunder Roads will also be working with charities and various nonprofit events to include them in the Run schedule as well. This will be an easy means of encouraging participation and attracting riders from outside the local communities. In many cases, we will have specific prize drawings for those at these events. The Ride Cards will allow participants to easily and safely check in at all stops. Some Thunder Roads Sponsors will also be offering discounts to readers that present the cards. Thunder Roads will be listing special discounts and offers in the magazine throughout the year as an added value to readers and means of encouraging our partners to offer these extra savings. PLEASE NOTE: Once you have received your OHIO RIDE CARD, you will not be asked to provide personal information or emails at any location for check-in. You simply enter your ride card number! 52

This is not simply a “Chinese fire drill” or mad-dash across the state. This is a Ride program. It is meant to be a means for readers to discover new riding destinations and enjoy the ride there. In fact, we have designed the program to encourage folks to break out of their local routes and trek to the furthest corners of the state.

Just Get Out and RIDE! One of the really exciting aspects of the program is that the Buckeye Thunder Run can be modified and added to throughout the summer – if not the entire year. We will be adding and dropping stops each month. Readers will be able to nominate stops, we’ll investigate them, and if we agree that it’s a suitable stop – they’ll be invited to join the run. Some stops will only run a few months – and possibly not consecutive. A cool winery in Geneva might be a stop early in the season, and then we bring them back during the harvest season! We can also modify the run if it turns out that something just isn’t working. We want to keep things exciting for you – the readers and riders on the run. We’re bikers and it’s all about the ride. We want to help create fun experiences for you and share some cool spots in our state. And we want to discover new spots as well, which is why we are encouraging everyone to nominate their favorite riding destinations. Again this is not simply a sales tool for us or meant to subsidize the magazine! We have designed this run to entertain and challenge our readers – as well as promote our partners. Of course one of the key components in this whole program, second only to the riders themselves, is the stops. The Thunder Roads team has spent a lot of time collecting nominations and researching stops for the Run; but there are undoubtedly plenty of more stops out there. If you have a venue or event that you would like to get involved in the run, please don’t hesitate to let us know about it. If it’s your place, we will get in touch shortly with more information on the run and what’s involved. If you are recommending a spot for someone else – we will reach out to them and let them know they have been nominated. If you can suggest a contact person, that can help expedite the process. You can send information to BuckeyeThunderRun@gmail.com

Just Get Out and Ride!

Pick up your card and hit some stops! As we mentioned, this is a dynamic event – intended to be tweaked and developed over time. If you have ideas, suggestions, or concerns – please don’t hesitate to let us know. You can email us at BuckeyeThunderRun@gmail.com

Thunder Roads Ohio Contributor

How to Get from Motorcycling 101 to Motorcycling 201 Last month in Thunder roads our esteemed and apparently multi talented editor began a series called Motorcycling 101. As I read the article I realized a good point was being made. Even though I like to complain about them, it is not cell phones and distracted driving that are the only problems. It is also about improving rider skill, expertise, knowledge and awareness. As someone who has been immersed in motorcycles and motorsports for many years I looked back at what I have experienced and thought about what helped me become more proficient.

Bicycles – When I finished college and moved to Washington DC for law school I found an awesome apartment right in the middle of the city. I realized that having a car was a negative so I spent all three years commuting by bicycle. Cruising around the densely populated streets of our capital was an exhilarating experience. To actually get to where you were going you had to bob and weave and sprint through the traffic. You also had to get to the front of the line at traffic lights if not outright just run them. You quickly learned to be absolutely sure no one was in the process of running a red light as you were entering an intersection. This skill stands out as one carried over to the motorcycles. Bicycles contribute to good situational awareness for a number of reasons. One of which is the lack of horsepower to get you out of a dangerous situation. A bike also enforces the phenomena that it will go where you look. If you are looking for ways to amuse yourself during a three hour ride focus intently Thunder Roads® Magazine OHIO

on the next oil patch ahead of you. With little or no effort you will find that your bike automatically goes to where you are looking. The same carries over to motorcycles. As an additional benefit, if you are fat this is a good way to burn some extra calories, chubby.

Dirt Bikes – The benefits of dirt bikes are numerous. They are a great way to play on a motorcycle in a controlled environment with no car traffic, they are a great workout and riding around a motocross track or dirt trails helps your riding skills. I personally like to take my dirt bike out to the local riding parks and turn laps on the motocross tracks. I am not a big fan of highly technical trail riding. It really doesn’t matter which you prefer. Just learning to slide the bike through a bermed corner, jump it, ride over whoops, or thru a rutted section of track will make a potholed section of road seem pretty tame.

Writing Articles / practicing law As an attorney I have seen the creative ways people can hurt themselves. I have done the work necessary to help thousands of people who have been hurt. Having written articles for many years I have also seen the research that exists. To continue to come up with amazing topics like this requires me to read as many motorcycle and motorsports publications as I can to keep current. While not everyone is an attorney or wants to submit their ramblings about motorcycles for public viewing anyone can go out on the net and read. The Hurt Report is still my favorite piece of research. Despite its age (Published in 1981), when combined with other research it is amazing how simple the conclusions are. Basically ThunderRoadsOhio.com

75% of crashes occur at some type of an intersection with another vehicle who does not see the motorcycle. 20% of crashes are caused by a sole motorcyclist without the help of anyone else. The majority of these are caused by going into a corner over your skill level and putting it on the ground all by yourself. The remaining 5% require a greater amount of creativity in getting the bike upside down. A review of the above suggests that if you analyze any intersection carefully as you approach and don’t enter a corner too hot you can prevent a lot of crashes.

Track Days Ok, I saved the best for last. A track day is easily the best tool that I have been exposed to that develops riding skills. Almost all of the tracks near Ohio have open practices known as track days. Nearly any bike from a naked street bike up to a sport bike can be at home on a race track. A big cruiser probably won’t work out too well but if your bike is on the fence go out on the net and look around. You may be surprised that others have had that type of bike on the track. Most of the Organizations have riding coaches who will help you with the track. The first thing that I remember learning is how to brake and set the bike for the corner. Learning a race line and how to read corner entrances, apexes and exits quickly follow. If you drive off the track into the grass you learn to appreciate runoff. You also learn how little runoff exists on your favorite sporty road and that the three feet between the road and the guardrail will probably not allow you to stop if you low side the bike. Finally you will realize that your bike is better than you are. If you have a sport bike and you crash it on the track it is probably not because you have more talent than the bike has capability. It is more likely your fault for failure to properly brake and set the bike to run the race line thru the corner. Track days are also the most fun I have ever had on a motorcycle. I highly recommend them to anyone who has any interest at all. Mike Weber, Attorney, handles motorcycle accident, automobile accident and workers compensation cases in Ohio and Kentucky. NYC unrefined Bonneville

By Geoff Baldwin, Thunder Roads Ohio Contributor ReturnoftheCafeRacers.com

Living in a big city can make it difficult for anyone wanting to customize their own bike.. Without garage space you’re limited to dragging your bike indoors or working on the side of the street, which as anyone that’s experienced it would know, is about as much fun as receiving a swift kick to the groin. This was the unpleasant reality that New Yorker Francis Choung was faced with, but accepting one’s situation and simply dealing with it is sometimes the best option and Francis has done it with style.

“I’m a video producer/editor living and working in Manhattan. My work keeps me behind a computer all day, which can be maddening in such a dense and cramped city. Buying a stock Bonneville 3 years ago and being able to work with my hands on something tangible and escape the city whenever I want has been much-needed therapy.” 66

ThunderRoadsOhio.com

Thunder Roads® Magazine OHIO

“This is my first and only bike. For anyone familiar with New York City, space isn’t cheap, and the gridlock makes it very motorcycleunfriendly. It’s extremely difficult to own and maintain a bike here, much less multiple bikes. Parking on the street will eventually lead to tickets, impoundment, being knocked over by cars, vandalism, and/or theft. Luckily, there are a few motorcycle-only garages in Manhattan that provide sanctuary, with secure parking and a safe work area. I’ve been able to do 95% of the work on my bike thanks to one of these garages. Being my only bike, it has taken on the full brunt of my wrenching and fabrication needs, while also needing to be my daily rider.”

“Since Triumph Modern Twins are ubiquitous these days (You can’t walk a block around here without seeing one and they make up a large majority of the modern bikes that show up to local motorcycle shows), I’ve attempted to stray as far from the classic stock form as possible. I’ve always been a big admirer of Richard Pollock and his Mule motorcycles and Japanese bobbers, and gravitated towards the street tracker aesthetic. And I love bare metals and patina, so it has taken on a somewhat post-apocalyptic look.”

“The tank has been stripped, and old dents left alone. I made an aluminium face plate with vertical PIAA lights, and built up dual 18” wheels, powder coating the stock hubs and lacing them to Sun rims with Shinko 705 tires. Going 18” on both rear and front allowed me to fill out the rear wheel well space a bit and add a beefier tire to the front. The subframe was looped with a slight upsweep, and a custom fiberglass seat pan made with new foam and upholstery. The pipes are a modified British Customs 2 into 1, which were shortened and mounted to a new bracket welded onto the frame. Side panels and tabs were deleted, a new battery tray built, and I mounted a car style ignition which starts the bike with the turn of the key. The key has a knurled brass topper that matches the gas cap. A cheap, digital Danmoto gauge was wired in. I also ditched the bulky 1” bars and controls, and converted everything to 7/8”, utilizing a much lower profile Grimeca MC. Performance-wise, I added a set of FCR 39 carbs to give it a bit more kick in the higher RPMs.” “Because this is my only bike, these mods were usually done on the quick and dirty, including rattle canning the frame and parts on the open, grimy streets. It has also been a constantly evolving beast, since there’s not much to do during the brutal winters here but wrench indoors. It isn’t the most refined bike, but that’s how I like it.”

Product Review

Battery Tender USB Charger and 12 Volt Socket For those of us with Battery Tenders on our motorcycles (and it really should be you too, if you want your expensive battery to last for years!), you know there is a little pigtail connector that hangs out somewhere. The other end is connected to your battery, and when you park your bike, you plug your Battery Tender into this little connector. When you ride, this little connector is hidden away somewhere. On my GL1500, it hides inside one of the rear trunkmounted cubbies. It’s not used while riding, obviously. Someone pointed this product out to me, and I thought it was a great idea. Why not make use of that unused connector? In this case, it’s a small USB charger that plugs into the Battery Tender connector on the bike when away from home. You can use it to charge your phone, or any other device that charges from a USB connection. I found that these units were available from a wide range of dealers – as well as numerous online dealers. I found them available from Amazon for only $12, I decided to pick one up. It works great! Just plug it in, plug your phone wire into it, stash the phone, and when you finish your ride, the phone is ready to go! They also have a standard “cigarette lighter” plug type connector, which allows you plug any 12 volt appliance into your Battery Tender wire, and run it from your bike’s battery. THE PERILS OF OPEN CARRY As of today, every state in the USA has some type of provision to allow citizens obtain a permit to carry a concealed handgun while engaged in lawful activity. In some states, that permit is easy to get. In others (like California or Hawaii) it is almost impossible unless you are politically connected.

What many people don’t know is that the UNCONCEALED (or open) carry of firearms is not legally regulated in many states. Here in Ohio, it is completely legal for anyone over the age of 21 (without a history of mental illness, drug addiction, or felony conviction) to carry a firearm in public. No permit is needed as long as the gun is not concealed. It’s rare, but occasionally you will see someone carrying openly. Most do it as a political statement. They are trying to raise awareness for better concealed carry laws and promote the idea that guns can and should be safely carried by anyone who wants to. I applaud the gun rights activism. I think people should recognize that guns are not necessarily bad and get used to “normal” people carrying them. These articles got me contemplating the issue:

Buckeye Firearms Association Buckeye Firearms Association is a grassroots organization dedicated to defending and advancing the right of citizens to own and use firearms for all legal activities, including self-defense, hunting, competition, and recreation. Man Legally Carrying Gun Robbed at Gunpoint (http://www.620wtmj.com/news/local/95999354.html) Unarmed man attempts to rob EMU student of holstered gun (http://www.annarbor. com/news/crime/unarmed-man-attempts-to-rob-emu-student-carrying-holstered-gun/) I’ve come to the conclusion that open carry just isn’t a very good idea most of the time. First of all, if you live in a state where open carry is legal, I am not trying to limit your rights to carry a gun. Go for it if you want…just put some thought into it before you wear your gun into WalMart. I want to provide some information on a topic I know… the carrying of guns. Hopefully my arguments will make you think twice about carrying openly. Open carry can lead to numerous problems. As a cop responding to calls about this activity and as a person who carries a concealed handgun everywhere, I have a unique insight. Here are some of the issues:

Open carry will cause hassles with other people and eventually the police.

have trouble retaining their firearm in a surprise attack. Most pistol packers don’t even have the benefit of this kind of training.

Unless you live in a western state, open carry isn’t very common. When the uneducated populace sees someone carrying a gun (without a badge), they assume that a law is being broken. They panic and call the cops. What they tell the dispatcher when they call generally has no basis in truth. It usually ends up being something like: “There’s a man with a gun running around the grocery store scaring people!” If you were a cop, how would you respond to that call?

Think about this for a second. You are open carrying a gun on your right hip. I walk up to you and engage you in casual conversation…something like “Hey! Don’t our kids go to the same school?” As you are trying to figure out who I am, I move closer and I grab your right hand with my right hand and pin it to my chest. You struggle, but because I’m stronger, you can’t free yourself. As soon as I have the arm controlled, I grab your holstered pistol with my left hand. How are you going to stop that?

I’ve done that scenario on dozens of students. It almost always If the caller would have been honest and said “There’s a person walking around the grocery store who has a gun on his hip. He works. I end up with their gun and they have a puzzled look on isn’t threatening anyone and appears to be shopping.” As a cop, their face. I wouldn’t even approach you. It’s physically impossible for one human to simultaneously scan 360 degrees at the same time. You always have to turn your back to something! You think you can do better because you took a one-day CCW course? Understand reality. You can’t see everything and you can’t win every fight. Your gun can be taken and used against you. branded for life D

id you know that per information available from the Government of Canada online, that there were nearly Two Million crimes committed in their nation in 2012? I wish I could tell you how many were committed by Bikers, but I can’t seem to find that information. But know this for a fact. If you or your club has been deemed a “menace” or affiliated with, or associated with any MC Nation they disapprove of, or they otherwise just don’t like you, there is more than a good chance that should you decide to take that fishing trip to “Americas Hat”, or Honeymoon at Niagara Falls, or even if you work for a living just trying to earn an honest buck and have need to cross the US Border into Canada that there is a high probability that the Canadian Border Guards will Kidnap you against your will, hold you in a maximum security Detention Facility, and treat you like the criminal that they have decided you are, without ever actually charging you with a crime. Sounds CrAzY right? Well let me tell you a story. This just happened May 27th 2014 to a very close Biker Brother and Former Club Brother of mine. He and I probated and patched together years ago in an International MC with ties to another International MC. Both of which have been deemed a “Criminal Organization” by the US Dept of Justice. That obviously begs to say that using the DOJ’s own example, that every “Law Enforcement Agency” who has ever had a criminal conviction by one or more of its “members” is also a “Criminal Organization”.. but that’s for a different article. Even though he and I are no longer members of the club mentioned, and neither of us has been ever convicted of any crime, it is still “probable” that we are criminals, or have the potential to commit crime. What a joke! Everyone has the “potential to commit crimes”! Even Lawyers, Judges, Preachers, COPS & School Teachers!! I guess I must have been out riding my motorcycle the day that common sense and good judgment were thrown out of Law Enforcement and Parliament. So my Biker Brother drives a corporation owned semi truck for a living. He had a load to deliver in Canada. His paperwork was in order, License, passport, etc. No worries right? Wrong. Our names, addresses, license plate numbers, photographs, etc are all most assuredly in this big old data base shared by this oxymoron called ‘Government Intelligence”:.. When it was his turn in line and handed over his documents, well what do you know? “Ping”, something pops up giving the Border patrol concern. After thoroughly checking logs, vehicle and content load and finding nothing out of order, there is simply one more thing to do, start accusing the driver of being a member of a criminal organization in the US and interrogate him at will! After demanding to see any and all tattoos, a few of which depict the former membership in our former club, BAM, you’re Guilty! You are Not Allowed into our county, ever! Well, of course you can talk to a magistrate if you wish to ever have access into our country. So my buddy say’s no problem, I have committed no crimes, I need to be able to deliver loads for my company up 82

here, what’s the harm in asking? Oh, they left out the part that in order to see a judge, we’re going to impound your truck, take away all of your freedoms, and lock you in a Max Cell Prison in the same Unit with those serving time for heinous crimes, for up to 6 months to 2 years so I’ve been told. Yeah, just like that! By the time I got the call that he was locked up, it had already been about 5 days. Better memorize those landline phone number folks, because your only option is to call a landline collect, without the aid of your cell phone contact list. Of course most of the civilized world doesn’t have landlines anymore. He was discovered in prison after his employer was called to collect the truck by the authorities, and his employer notified his Father living in Florida. For the next week many calls were made to the US Embassy, a few of which were returned, with basically zero resources for help. By the way, you’re on your own up there. The US Embassy does not offer any legal aide, and there is no “Public Defender”. You know what got this ball rolling to get him help? The Biker and MC Community, that’s who. I created a quick Community page on Facebook called “Free Jake”. Within 24 hours it had over 400 members. By the end of the week when he was finally freed and permanently deported (for never having committed any actual crime) the number was well over 700 members from at least 4 or 5 countries, including Brothers from Canada, England, GB, Germany, the US, Etc , many of whom know him, but even more that didn’t. We had friends of friends offering up money, places to stay in Canada if he was released but had to stay for any hearings, a local trustworthy lawyer in Ottawa, etc. A real Community of People willing to jump right in and help a Biker Brother whom many have never even met. These are the “criminals” that the world police are so afraid of. And you know what, with good reason. Because when “we the people” finally reach the end of our tolerance for your Dictatorships, only then will you know the true power of the world’s people unified. And they know this and it scares them to death! You see they are egotistical power hungry mongrels, and what they fear most is a world unified and informed taking the power away from them. “But we’re just here to Protect you….go back to sleep good Sheeple.. All is safe while we control you”. To think that other governments and our own label me and so many thousands of other Bikers just like us a criminal threat is beyond hypocrite. These agencies can’t stop actual criminals from blowing people up in office buildings and public events, but they want to claim victory over world terror by simply persecuting easy targets that are no actual threat. Absurd! Want my advice? Pack those bags; bring those fishing poles, and head to Montana, or Florida, or anywhere but Canada! Oh don’t worry about covering up those tattoos, or leaving “the life” and trading your Harley for a Hybrid and moving down to Main Street USA, it’s too late, you’re already Branded for Life!
