Thurston County Small Business Incubator Welcomes Enlightenment Home Care, LLC

by Doria Maselli

Enlightenment Home Care’s owner, Songaya Gay, grew up in California’s Bay Area and later relocated to Washington State to raise her two sons. She started nursing school in 1999, along with her older sister, supporting each other during the process. “It was a long journey as I was a single mother and also a foster parent to children in need for several years,” says Gay. “It was a proud moment when I graduated in 2007.”

Since then, Songaya has worked as a nurse in several areas including Long Term Care, Rehabilitation, Hospice, Dementia Units, Inpatient Psychiatric and Residential Mental Health for Veterans. “During all of my time nursing, I found the most joy when I was interacting with my patients on a one-on-one personal level, rejoicing with them on their good days, motivating them on their difficult days and just sitting quietly with them on those days when words are not the answer,” says Gay.

In February 2020, Enlightenment Home Care, LLC was born with the desire to provide individualized and personalized one-on-one care with services tailored to meet the needs of every client. This method allows the opportunity to provide care that cannot be streamlined into a “one size fits all” model. You don’t have to be elderly or disabled to receive affordable personalized home care.

Enlightenment Home Care, LLC non-medical services are available to: • The person who breaks their leg or arm and needs help at home • The mother on bedrest or the new mother who needs the support of home care • The man with the flu who can’t get out of bed and needs some assistance while he recuperates • The single elderly man/woman who wants a companion to go to the movies every week

Services can be tailored to a variety of circumstances and include: • Household Care • Respite Care • Newborn Care • Companion Care • Additional Tailored Services

Enlightenment Home Care, LLC recently moved their offices into the Thurston County Chamber Small Business Incubator space. The Small Business Incubator creates jobs by helping entrepreneurs and small businesses access the resources they need for growth and long-term success. With a refreshed focus on minority micro-businesses, the Chamber’s goal is to break down the barriers minorities experience when developing a business. Songaya Gay

“Having an office in the space has been so helpful,” says Gay. “I can set up meetings, hold new employee trainings and orientations as well as get to network utilizing the Chamber’s helpful resources for members,” says Gay. “I needed a way to care for people the way I wanted to care for them and to provide the kind of care they deserve and appreciate; and I’m thankful this business allows me to do just that.”
