Dialogue： LPC Headquarters New York City, U.S, 2023 Fall Collaborator: Shuyang Fang Advisor: Ivi Diamantopoulou The concept is dialogue. As you know, Manhattan is built on a grid system. The grid composed of Avenues and streets records many histories of the city. The mission of LPC is to preserve buildings with high historical value. Therefore, how to properly respond to each history becomes our design motivation. The LPC is as local as it is civic. The buildings named historical landmarks improve the neighborhood condition and accelerate the city's development. We stack two new volumes on the existing building to imagine the history accruing. One volume follows the grid system of the local neighborhood, parallel to Christopher Street and Waverly Pl. The other is pointed to the city grid, aligning with Eleventh Avenue.

Cooking is the basic activity of human beings. Though different civilizations have their technique. There is common ground between them. The total design is based on the research of ordinary life of North Africa and Sicilian people. How do they prepare, cook, and eat? Following their activities, we designed a new zone in which two groups can share and communicate.

Care：The Call of the Roe v. Wade Thesis: Abortion Trends After the Overturn of Roe V Wade Korean Town, Los Angeles, California, 2022 Fall Collaborator: Xiaohan Liu Advisor: Lori A. Brown The overturn of Roe V Wade in 2022 struck the life of every American in the following decades. Many states had already approved the new law on abortion. Thousands of American women’s reproductive rights have been threatened. Many of them have to travel to another state for abortion services. The final project is a park complex near the central CBD of Korea. It will provide service for local people and travelers. There are six programs of architecture: three women’s hotels, a park, a market, a shared kitchen, a bathhouse, and a library. It will ensure privacy and safety.

Craft: The Sand Pavilion Material and form research Beach, 2019 Fall Advisor: Xinnan Zhao The project focuses on sand casting and how it could be combined with the form research. Sand is insoluble in water and easy to shape. It can also be found everywhere around the world. Therefore, it is widely used in manufacturing to work as a basic model. With the potential of sand, the research explores this traditional method and how it could cooperate with concrete. The project explores the possibility of sand and concrete by handcrafting. How to manage and decide is the most challenging part. It mimics the actual construction process and shows another angle of architecture.
