FOREWORD Tian Tang

Before 2009, Tian worked as an industrial designer and user experience designer in the field of product design and interaction design in China. In August 2009, the immersion of imagination and play took her to Sweden to study MFA program called Child Culture Design which is the only one in its kind in the world focus on children, and among all, play, which is the primary activity in young people’s lives. After study, she simply stayed to follow her dreams, she called it ” play dissolves in daily life.” By redesigning functionality, Tian wants to aspire another way to work, to share, to live. Thus Tian’s approach both starts from play situations, as well as forms and material which stimulates playful senses, which she refers as “play signal”.

Yu Shen Published in ILOOK 2011.08
其次圆形的纸传达一种togetherness(共同创作的氛围)。

YULONG WIRELESS TELEPHONE 2006
The design brief was to make the telephone look less “technical” but more “homy”. I started at find the shape and memory that connect to home. The roundness of ceremic bowl, bowl with a lid sometimes you can see the edge of a bowl, simple, less buttons. I design the down part slighter bigger than the upper part, where you can see an edge; secondly, group the unoften used buttons to the right side. This telephone went to market in 2007 by YULONG LTC.

RÖHSSKA CREATIVE BACKPACK 2010
Background: Röhsska museum approach us (child culture design students) to create a toolkit engaging children to explore the museum by themselves. Approach: What does a museum look like from a child’s perspective? We followed children’s visit, listen what questions they asked and what interested them. We got a main idea, tested the idea and refined it by constantly testing with children in the museum. Result: Two characters, a story, different activities are created. Story is created to provide a cognitive context of the objects. Activities are specially designed to encourage children studying form and different culture. Story, activities cards and pop-up map are stored in a toolkit. Toolkits are in both English and Swedish, used by children when visiting the museum. CUSTOMER INSIGHT OF AUTOMOTIVE INTERIOR IN 2010 2008, Volkwagen
Background: Design department of Volkswagen Shanghai (CSVW) strives to bring VW’s value to Chinese marketing by studying and better understanding Chinese culture and lifestyle. In 2008, CSVW developed “Lavida” which is proved to be a big suceess in Chinese market. As a design strategy intern, my task is to assist design team conducting qualitative user research on 2010 automotive interior trend in order to provide design inspirations for the interior and color & material team.
63
Approach: We conduct qualitative research covered 3 experts in the areas of fashion and media ( opinion leaders) and 20 users using tools includes expert interview, focus group ( 14 persons, two age focus groups), culture probes (20 photo diaries), contextual interviews (6 per- sons, join them driving to work, etc..) and home visit (6 persons). Contextual interview and home visit encourage open, natural dialogues and enable us to gain access to detail behavior and unspoken desire. Photo diaries provide us with initimate and effective research material. Result: Translate customers’ needs, behaviors and desire to tangible visualized material like personas, storyboard, moodboard as design inspiration for interior and color & material team.
