Appeal Sent to Avaaz.org from Tibettruth Regarding Its Petition On Tibet Which Disappointingly Is Being Ignored Hello We emailed your office last week concerning a matter of concern we have regarding a Tibet petition, unfortunately we have not as yet been favoured with a response. If so we would be most grateful if you could respond to the concerns regarding elements of the wording used on the petition, and also relating to the Twitter message which signatories have an option of sending. Our position on these areas is featured upon our site: http://tibettruth.com/2011/11/08/avaaz-an-appeal-for-accuracy-on-tibet/ In essence we believe the portrayal of recent Tibetan protests as 'desperate' and taken to secure help from a callously indifferent international community is not a fair representation of the motive and political objective of such actions. Moreover asserting such protests have the objective of ending current Chinese repression, which the petition and Twitter message claim, ignores the central political demands of such actions, namely Tibet's freedom/independence and the return of the Dalai Lama. This is very unfortunate and creates a somewhat misleading impression for the many people around the world who respect and invest trust in your highly valued internet presence and standing. Such flawed reportage also misrepresents the inspiring courage and political demands of Tibet's people, who far from acting in some crazed moment of despair are resisting China's tyranny with determination and singularity of purpose. Our colleagues who volunteer to run @tibettruth reported that for the past few days this erroneous understanding of Tibetan protest and political objectives has been flooding continuously threads on Tibet, effectively spamming and causing further misunderstanding and confusion for people who may not have any sound understanding of Tibet's cause. We hope you understand our concerns on this matter and may through a spirit of solidarity and cooperation, consider reviewing the current wording of the petition and associated Twitter message. Furthermore it is our understanding that the Spanish version of your petition and Twitter message claims that Tibetans are protesting for "an end to repression in China". This is factually not the case and again sends a very confused picture of events to those who have little knowledge of Tibet and its struggle for independence. It is our sincere hope that you and your colleagues will receive our appeal in the positive spirit in which it is offered. We look forward to hearing from you. With respect and admiration for your fine work For Tibettruth
