Commentary on chosen images

Simple mise-enscene

The reason I wanted a simple mise-en-scene, and even just a simple picture altogether, is to prevent too much distraction and make the DPS flow better. All my favourite DPS’ in magazines were simple as it looked really professional and made the details stand out. It also prevents losing focus on the text.

Varied types of shots eg. high angles, long shots

I need to have lots of different types of shots so I could develop a clear idea of how I wanted my layout to be. I think where the text is on a page should compliment the image. Therefore, I took different types of shots.

‘Rule of thirds’

It’s always a good idea to stick with a rule of three – or at least give enough space to layout the text around it. Most of the magazines I looked at always had the model at the left hand side of the page with the text on the right. However, this could depend on whether or not the text is on the picture or just beside it.

Familiarity

Another key thing is letting the reader relate to the DPS, using the image. This picture especially seems relatable as it is just on a normal street. However, I doubt I’ll be using this image as there are some unnecessary things in it. E.g. the blue rubbish bag which is really annoying and not nice to look at. So basically, I want the pictures to be relatable, but not too realistic.

A calm, sound mood

Finally, the mood of all the pictures are more or less the same. They each give out a calm and cool tone. Despite my first idea of bring out the craziness in pop, this relaxed picture is almost as effective.
