Relocation of Barcelona Cathedral Museum onto Sant Sever church 10th Semester. ETSAV. Teacher Xavier Perxas. Thesis (under development).

INDEX heritage intervention

The inappropriate conditions in which the museum is at present made me think about its relocation to a bigger and better space. That could be the nearby church of Sant Sever, a genuine baroque jewel currently without any use. The new museum is thought as a cover around the church, that eventually becomes the core of the new museographic project.

Extension of the urgent care facility at the anti-tubercular clinic of GATCPAC 9th Semester. ETSAV. Teacher BĂ rbara Noguerol.

INDEX heritage intervention

Sited in Barcelona’s Raval neighbourhood, this jewel of the Catalan rationalist architecture was recently turned into a community health center. However, it needs to be expanded as the population is growing. This project aims to provide a cosy space for them not to feel opressed. Thus, my proposal is a one-direction wall system that prevents the patients from public eye while it allows to feel free from any constraint.

Landscape intervention on the concrete squares on the way from the Seminar to the Opera 9th Semester. ETSAV. Teacher Francesc Navés.

INDEX landscape

The anti-tubercular clinic is situated in the middle of an urban plan project by the architects Lluís Clotet and Oscar Tusquets from 1981, as part of a public space system, meant to improve the health conditions of the city centre. Even though the proposal was well-intentioned, the resulting squares turned to be scarcely used, partly due to the lack of vegetation. As a consequence, my project consists of revising those spaces and proposing landscape solutions for them. 1 Catalpa bignonioides Catalpa, Árbol de las trompetas, Catalpa commun, Indian bean tree

Landscape project on a cargo island in Hamburg Harbour 5th Semester. TUGraz. Teacher Joost Meuwissen.

INDEX landscape

The most recent urban explosion of Hamburg has brought to the city —and specially to its harbour— quite a lot of great buildings done by prestigious architects. The side effect of this urbanistic development has been the appearance of a number of interesting in-between spaces. In the vicinity of Herzog & de Meuron’s Philharmonic Hall, the island where I develop my project becomes the Yellow Submarine of the very Beatles that started their career in Hamburg. On their way back to Liverpool, though, they forgot the poor submarine in the Hafen, and soon the sea creatures started colonizing its deck.

Landscape project in a tram line station in Montpellier

7th Semester. ENSAM. Teachers Gui Jordan, Miguel Usandizaga, Josep M. García.

INDEX landscape

The technical campus of Montpellier is laid out around the tram line in the northern part of the city, with Occitanie as main station. Surrounded by empty places and far from the city centre, this station became the site of a team project developed in just 2 weeks in which, using the word association, we turned Occitanie —the ancient condominium of the Mediterranean sea— into Océanie. To shape this idea we proposed a large park focusing its design on the sea waves and navigation imagery, with the station as the central point of activity.

Landscape intervention in Alguaire-Albelda area, Lleida 9th Semester. ETSAV. Teachers Francesc Muñoz, Carles Llop.

INDEX landscape

Two similar situations in the same region —the bad management of both an airport in one town, and a cultural landscape heritage in the other— were the starting point of two different projects that, due to their geographical and thematic similarity, became part of a whole. In the two cases I focused on the magnificence of the dry landscape as an added value for “slow” culture, aiming for new tourism and farming activities.

Design of a shaded area at the F1 circuit in Montmeló 3rd Semester. ETSAV. Teacher Lluís Tobella.

INDEX landscape

Facing the challenge of supplying a shelter under which services and activities could take place, I designed one single object that could provide shade by means of repetition and combination. The result is a “forest” where the surface above is opaque, while side views are totally open and transparent. This system would also allow infinite growth in all directions.

Intervention in a popular library in the Can Batlló factory

9th Semester. ETSAV. Teachers Mariona Benedito, Markus Vogl, Enric Massip.

INDEX participation, urban plan and technology

Symbol of the neighbourhood’s resistance against real estate speculation, the establishment of a public library in an appropriated industrial compound was the starting point of this team project. It was carried out at three levels: first, we crafted a mural that points at the entrance of the library —as it is hidden—, and a set of lamps made out of the material that we found right at the abandoned factory, in order to create a cosy, inhabitable space. Second, we uploaded a promotional video on Youtube to highlight the popular participation in the project. And finally, we proposed a re-organisation of the public space to provide services to the neighbourhood.

As a consquence of the intense thought on how to face the design of a Nazi Documentation Centre right at the spot where German fascism first showed its ugly face, this project proposes an alternative to the original assignment. It offers other values that look more to the present, and a place where everybody can protest, no matter where they live on the planet. All they need is a computer or smartphone connected to the internet to choose what they want to complain about, how many led lamps on the ground they want to switch on and for how long.

9th Semester. ETSAV. Teacher Carles Llop.

Can Franquesa is a neighbourhood in the North of Santa Coloma that, even though it is disregarded by the rest of the city, has an exceptional location at the base of the mountain and breathtaking panoramic views over Barcelona. This project aims to give an added value to this place by means of Augmented Reality technology, designing different routes for each application. This will bring this outlying neighbourhood closer to the city, the citizens closer to nature, and Santa Coloma closer to Barcelona. This project has been awarded and exhibited in 2 competitions.

Theoretical project of post-apocalyptic situationist urban plan

INDEX theory

6th Semester. TUGraz. Teacher Joost Meuwissen.

I HOPE TO MEET YOU AGAIN, DARLINGS!

In this project we were encouraged to imagine a situationist city, after reading the texts written by Guy Debord and Constant. In my proposal I looked for situations in which such a city could make sense further than the situationist experience. For this reason, I based my work on the novel The Drowned World, by J. G. Ballard. Trying to shape a primitive world inhabitated by intellectuals, I saw a network of wheels as the perfect solution to colonize the space, as it fits very well to the situationist concepts of wandering and game. HEY! CAN JOIN YOU?

Housing block in Barcelona

INDEX dwelling

5th Semester. ETSAV. Teacher Joan Llecha.

Located in an atypical geometry block in the Eixample district in Barcelona, the project I propose is the result of my intention for every neighbour to have the same conditions of sunlight, natural ventilation and depth of sight —that in the best cases reaches 400m. The building folds up into itself to achieve these premises and the staircases absorb the deformations. Appart from that, each appartment is designed by starting from a central piece, the kitchen, that organizes the rest of the dwelling around it.

INDEX dwelling

Right next to Potsdammer Platz there is a huge unoccupied piece of land that connects Mitte and Schรถneberg quarters, in Berlin. There are two underground lines that cross the void, and a city competition was set up to build a 3 star hotel and 200 dwellings, as extension of the new plan developed in the area. Our proposal consisted of 6 housing blocks that provided as much transparency and long views as possible. Public space was one of the cores, together with the best qualities of light and ventilation for all the apartments.

Interactive wall project for a public building

6th Semester. TUGraz. Teachers Peter Hammerl, Ferdinand Oswald.

INDEX interior design

In this project we were asked to use concrete blocks made by YTONG, which are known for their sructural capacity despite their lightness. Taking advantage of this feature, I designed an interactive wall from which some factory-prepared bricks —chosen by the customer— can be removed in order to craft furniture, and be placed back into the wall once they have fulfilled their function to make more space in the room.

Design of a multipurpose chair for a contest 1st Semester. ETSAV. Teacher Emiliano L贸pez.

INDEX interior design

My first project at university was the design of a temporary emergency house for refugees and its furniture. From the latter I developed, later on and separating it from its original context, one of the furniture pieces that finally became a table-chair/chair-table more likely to be used in a school or meeting room. This design was awarded in a contest organized by the Architects Association (COAC) and shown at the Picasso Hall of Barcelona during November, 2004.
