The French 500 Free Clinic is now open twice a month to better serve the uninsured and under-insured people of southeastern Ohio and Mason County, WV and beyond over the age of six. That is the second Thursday in addition to the last Thursday of the month. THE NEXT FREE CLINIC IS SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 29 FROM 1 PM TO 3 PM AT 258 PINECREST DRIVE IN THE OLD HILLCREST CLINIC OFF OF JACKSON PIKE IN SPRING VALLEY, NEXT TO ARBORS NURSING HOME. NO APPOINTMENT IS NECESSARY. Patient’s will now be able to have a follow-up appointment in usually two weeks instead of one month. Thus this care for our patients (free of charge) will be more effective and more convenient. Previously the Free Clinic announced a geographical expansion to the entire Ohio Valley including Gallia, Meigs, Jackson, and Vinton Counties as well as Mason County, West Virginia and beyond. There is no longer a geographical limit. Among those who are covered, many cannot afford the high deductible and co-pays. Those underinsured people also need help. The French 500 Free Clinic is willing and able to serve both the uninsured and the under-insured. When necessary, our medical facility and its physicians refer patients to an appropriate specialist. We assist patients with lab work and prescriptions. However, the Clinic does not dispense pain medications.

Why Naggers Nag The third in a series of columns about nagging By Ron Ross Why does one person nag another? Why will someone give orders to another and then keep repeating those orders over and over and over at varying levels of intensity until both parties are fatigued? There are a variety of reasons why nagging happens. Here are five: Nagging happens when one party in a relationship senses a loss of attention, understanding, or recognition. Do you remember when you first fell in love? If you were like most couples, it was filled with romance and uninterrupted attentiveness. You fawned over each other, complimented each other, were polite to each other, gazed longingly into each other’s eyes, and you went out of your way to meet each other’s needs. Then time passed and the bloom went off your relationship. You both felt neglected, misunderstood, or unappreciated, and what happened? The nagging started. You employed nagging in your feeble attempt to regain attention or to rekindle the fires of romance. Even though you know it does not work, it is easy to do. It is a way to say, “I am here; please give me some attention.” Nagging also happens when one party suffers from a lack of self-esteem and it is usually the nagger who suffers. Naggers (or if you are a guy, you are a grumbler) feel insecure, unfulfilled, and pessimistic about nearly everything. “I do not know why you cannot find a better job.” “Do you have to dress like that when my friends come over? You look terrible.” One way to deal with insecurities is to criticize everyone around you and find fault with

A wife with two small children, a full-time job, and a hapless husband really could use some help around the house— and one way to get it is to nag. “For crying out loud, honey, can’t you pick up your own towel?” “You expect me to fix supper, clean the house, and then make love like a porno star all while I take care of two crying babies, work nine hours a day, and try to figure out how to pay a dozen delinquent bills!” Her cry for help may be ineffective, but it is real, and a sensitive husband will see it for what it is and respond appropriately. Nagging happens when two people struggle for power. Good relationships are based on mutual respect and mutually agreed upon roles. When respect wanes or roles are confused, competition raises its ugly head as the two parties struggle to get their way. “I want us to go to my folks’ house for Christmas.” “Oh yeah? Well, we went there for Memorial
Day and I do not think I can stand another day with your father! We are going to stay home this year.” “Well, who made you God in this house?” This battle for power will destroy a healthy relationship and can leave substantial collateral damage along the way.
