On May 15, 1930 Ellen Church became the first female flight attendant. Previously, the co-pilot or ‘cabin boys’ were responsible for serving passengers. Come along with Tidbits as we take to the skies! ELLEN CHURCH Ellen Church was a trained pilot, and in 1930 she applied for a job as a pilot. She was turned down, but when they found out she was also a nurse, she was hired to serve as a stewardess because it was thought that having a nurse aboard would reassure passengers. At first, all stewardesses were nurses. Ellen’s career as a stewardess was cut short when she was injured in a car accident after just 18 months. She was a nurse for the rest of her life. FLIGHT FACTS • Female flight attendants still outnumber male flight attendants by a margin of 6 to 1. • About 10% of commercial pilots are female. • In 1970, 1% of business travelers were female. By 2000, 51% were female. • About 650 million people travel on U.S. airlines annually and there are over 100,000 flight attendants to serve them. • A typical flight attendant will serve on three flights in a single work day. Each craft holds about 270 people. That’s over 800 passengers to deal with every single day.

FYI FLIGHT FACTS • If your flight is delayed, be aware that flight attendants are paid only from the time a plane pushes back from the gate until it opens its doors at the next city. The most stressful part of every work day– the boarding and the deplaning– is not on the clock for most flight attendants. They don’t get paid anything at all if a plane is delayed while the passengers are still in the terminal, and they’re paid a fraction of their regular salary if the loaded plane sits on the tarmac for more than an hour. Therefore, flight attendants are just as frustrated by delays as you are. • The reason you have to return your tray table to its upright and locked position is so you won’t impale yourself on it if the plane crashes. The reason you have to return your seat to its upright position is to make evacuation easier in event of a disaster, to minimize whiplash, and to prevent you from slipping under your seat belt in the event of a sudden stop. The reason you have to turn off headphones is so you can hear emergency announcements. The reason you have to raise your window shade is so you’ll have a better feel for which way is up and give you better orientation if there’s an accident, as well as making it easier for rescuers to see inside. The reason you have to stow your carry-on items and put away your computers is to avoid having them act like airborne missiles. Lights are dimmed so you’re not blinded by light while dashing through smoke. • Because people seated in the exit row might be called upon to open the emergency exit, there are 3 rules governing who gets to sit there. First, you have to be over 15 years old. Second, you must speak English. Third, you cannot require a seat belt extension. This is because you have to be able to see the exit; you have to be able to verbally direct people to the exit; and you have to be physically capable of opening the exit.

DEAR PAW’S CORNER: How did cats get the nickname “Kitty?” -- Evelyn in Orlando DEAR EVELYN: Good question! It seems like everyone summons their cat using “Here, kitty kitty,” or calls their cat “Kitty” when they’re not addressing it by name. So where did this common name come from? It likely stems from “kitten,” the name for a young cat. This English word dates back to the Middle Ages and describes the offspring of domesticated cats and some smaller wildcats. (Offspring of lions, for example, are called “cubs.”) There are other names for cats, of course. There’s the scientific term for housecats, “felis catus” (which sounds a lot like a Harry Potter incantation). There’s the general term for all cats, “felines,” which includes big cats like tigers and lions, as well as wildcats and lynx and so on. And then there’s the other common
name for housecats, which is “pussycats.” Fully grown male cats that haven’t been neutered are called “toms,” and fully grown female cats who haven’t been spayed are known as “queens.” (And they know it, too!) So, why do we often call full-grown cats “kitty”? I think it’s because we humans tend to see even grown domestic housecats as cute, small animals -- even though adult cats can be stone-cold killers of small birds, lizards and other creatures outdoors (which is another good reason to keep your cat indoors). What’s interesting is how most domesticated cats will respond to a call of “Here, kitty kitty.” That’s likely because the phrase is so frequently used in Western countries, that most cats have heard it many times throughout their lives. Welcome to Goose Tips! With Mother’s Day just around the corner I’d like to share an easy project the kids can make that Mom will cherish for years. Pick up a blank canvas and Sind craft paint at your local department store. We’re going to paint the word LOVE using your child’s hand and footprints. Find the center of your canvas and determine where you want the O. Paint your child’s hand and press in the canvas where you want the O. Now paint both feet and starting at the heel, use one foot at a time to form a V. After the mess is cleaned up and sanity is restored, paint on your L and E, allow to dry and hang your art. Visit us at woundedgoose.com and see Ruby’s completed project, menus and specials. When you decide to dine out, gather around our table at the Goose. Remember every Friday is Game Night, each week we’re serving a different wild game. The Wounded Goose, celebrating 6 years and now serving beer and wine. We have a lot of competition, but our food doesn’t. ---Kat Brabham, owner 740-388-0565

Cast-Iron Cookware
Q: I have a Wagner 1891 6-inch iron skillet and a 10-inch Wagner griddle. I would like to know how much they are worth and where I can sell them. -- Brenda, Daytona Beach, Florida A: The Wagner Manufacturing Company was founded in Sydney, Ohio, in 1891. It was family owned until the mid-1950s. The company was acquired by Griswold and eventually liquidated in 2000. The skillets, cooking pots and griddles made by Wagner are popular with collectors, but aren’t all that valuable. I found a set of three Wagner skillets -- a 10 inch, 8 inch and 6 inch-- on eBay for $35. Most of the ones I have seen in shops and at antiques malls sell in the $25 to $50 range, depending on size and condition. As to the ones you have, you might begin with shops and dealers in your area. *** Q: I purchased a figurine called “Bath Time” made by Lladro. I paid $300 for it and was told that Lladro pieces have become quite collectible. -- Liz, Homestead, Florida A: Before making a purchase, always do your homework. Case in point is your figurine. Yes, it was made by Lladro in 1997, but is not considered rare. I found it in “Collecting Lladro: Identification & Price Guide” by Peggy Whiteneck and published by Krause Books. Whiteneck places the value of

your figurine at $195. *** Q: I have an unopened pack of Hit Parade cigarettes made by the American Tobacco Company of Durham, North Carolina. Does it have any value? -- Janet, Oswego, Illinois A: The Cigarette Pack Collectors Association was organized in 1976 and currently has about 100 members scattered throughout the country. The group publishes a newsletter for members, “Brandstand.” This might be a good place to explore the value of your cigarette pack. Contact is 86 Plymouth Grove Drive, Kennebunk, ME 04043; cigpacks@aol.com. *** Q: I have 26 volumes of Reader’s Digest condensed books. Are they worth keeping? I am downsizing this summer. -- Ethel, Memphis, Tennessee A: The Reader’s Digest books were abridged and are not of interest to book collectors. My suggestion is to donate them to a charity. Write to Larry Cox in care of KFWS, P.O. Box 536475, Orlando, FL 32853-6475, or send e-mail to questionsforcox@aol.com. * It was noted 20th-century British playwright Tom Stoppard who made the following sage observation: “It is better to be quotable than to be honest.” * You’ve probably seen ventriloquists perform, but you may not realize that it’s a skill not limited to humans. The crested bellbird, which can be found in the wetlands of Australia and Venezuela, throws its voice in order to misdirect predators. * Bibliophiles beware: Using a public library can carry hidden risks, as a 20-year-old woman in Wisconsin discovered when she checked out “White Oleander” and “Angels and Demons.” Heidi Dalibor never returned the books, and she didn’t respond to letters or phone calls requesting that she return the books and pay the overdue fine. Eventually, Dalibor was arrested by local police, who handcuffed and fingerprinted her, and she wasn’t released until her bail was paid. * We’ve all heard the childhood tale of George Washington chopping down a cherry tree, then ‘fessing up because he could not tell a lie. Most history books don’t mention other aspects of his childhood, though; for instance, did you know that our first president, when he was 10 years old, was a champion wrestler and long jumper? * If you were a member of the middle class in Victorian England, you might have spent an enjoyable afternoon with friends on a boat, searching for bizarre sea creatures. This popular pastime was known as “monster spotting.” * Those who study such things say that the smallest vertebrate in the world is a type of carp: The Paedocypris progenetica grows to be less than half an inch long. *** Thought for the Day: “A husband is what is left of the lover after the nerve has been extracted.” -- Helen Rowland (c) 2015 King Features Synd., Inc.

Puzzle Answer on Page 8
• John was 18 in 1848 when he got a job in an optical shop in Switzerland. The following year he moved to Rochester, New York, and opened his own optical shop, manufacturing monocles, spectacles, and field glasses. His friend Henry made a financial investment in the business and they became partners. • One day John found a discarded piece of Vulcanite rubber. Experimenting, he discovered he could make eyeglass frames from the material. At that time, eyeglasses were made from either gold or horn. When the Civil War started, the price of gold and horn rose, and the demand for John’s Vulcanite glasses skyrocketed. • In 1860 he invented the first machine to produce glass lenses. As scientific research gained momentum, his machines also produced lenses for microscopes, telescopes, and cameras. • John’s son William revolutionized the industry by inventing a new process of making lenses by casting them out of molten glass. During the two World Wars, the company was asked to provide troops with gunsights, periscopes, target finders, and searchlight mirrors. • Because pilots suffered from high-altitude glare, the company produced sunglasses that used a polarized filter to absorb light. They had a large oval frame to shield an aviator’s eyes which needed to repeatedly glance down toward the instrument panel. These glasses became enormously popular and are still sold today. The company also expanded into contact lenses. • The company is named after the last names of John and his financial backer, Henry. What is the name of the company? Bonus points for naming the sunglasses. (Answer next page)

BAUSCH & LOMB • By the time John Bausch died in 1926, his company was making 17,000 products and creating 28% of U.S. eyeglass lenses. • During the Great Depression, military products represented 70% of total production of the Bausch & Lomb line. • Just when televisions became popular in the American home and cinemas were beginning to decline, Bausch & Lomb invented the CinemaScope lens. The new lens made the “wide screen” effect possible, enabling cinemas to double screen width. The company was awarded an honorary Oscar for this. • The company sold 16,000 pairs of Ray-Bans in 1982, but after Tom Cruise wore them in the 1983 film Risky Business, sales jumped to 360,000. • Bausch & Lomb worked for three years to develop soft contact lenses, which came on the market in 1971. Previously all contact lenses had been made of glass or acrylic, which were hard and often painful. The new lenses were softer, and were marketed with the brand name “Soflens.” The value of company stock tripled.

The company headquarters is still in Rochester, New York, although there are production plants all over the planet. Today, about 13,000 employees in 36 countries work for the Bausch & Lomb.

Online at www.lovemytidbits.com QUIZ: A DELIVERY COMPANY
• Frederick Smith’s grandfather was a steamboat captain. His father built a bus line. Fred was more interested in flying, and he earned money weekends as a charter pilot while he worked his way through Yale in the 1960s. • He often flew spare parts for computer companies who were unwilling to wait for ground delivery to get critical components to customers. • He joined the Marine Corps, and while serving in Viet Nam as a ground officer, he accompanied pilots on more than 200 combat missions, all while noticing how efficient the military’s delivery system is. • After leaving the military, he inherited $4 million from his father. He raised an additional $80 million from investors and decided to go into the business of providing business owners with the fastest delivery service on earth. • He started by purchasing a controlling interest in an airline maintenance company, then turned to buying used jets. He opened his doors for business in 1973, guaranteeing overnight delivery between any two points in the 11city network he set up. He carried just seven packages on his first run, and soon closed down in order to reorganize. • He more than doubled his network to 25 cities and re-launched the business a month later, this time carrying a total of 186 packages. • The U.S. Post Office sued him to try to maintain their monopoly. He lost $27 million in his first two years and resorted to playing the blackjack tables in Vegas to keep afloat. But by the late 1970s Americans nationwide were relying on his company’s ability to deliver critical goods overnight. Today the company has 645 aircraft and 71,000 trucks carrying upwards of 5.5 million items daily. Name it. (Answer next page)

For Advertising Call (740) 441-7633 Answer: FedEx, short for Federal Express. QUIZ: A FAMOUS PHRASE • The U.S. Air Force wanted to know how sudden deceleration would affect pilots. They designed a series of experiments that consisted of volunteers being strapped into rocketpropelled sleds which were quickly accelerated before the brakes were abruptly applied. The volunteers wore a vest wired with sensors that measured the force. • According to the legend, an engineer named Edward designed this harness, but Edward did not install the sixteen individual sensors. A technician did that. • On the day of the first test, volunteer John Paul Stapp was strapped into his harness, belted into the seat, and sent for the ride of his life. The deceleration was so forceful that when Stapp staggered out of the seat, his nose was bleeding and his eyes were bloodshot. • When Edward went to gather the data collected by the sensors, he discovered to his dismay that not a single bit of information had been collected, because the technician wired the sensors backwards and not one of them functioned. Stapp had risked his life for nothing. • Edward muttered something about, “if there’s a way to do something wrong, he’ll find it.” • At a press conference a few days later, Stapp paraphrased Edward’s comment, saying words to the effect that, “if there are two or more ways to do something, and if one of those results in catastrophe, then someone will do it that way.” • Eventually this pessimistic saying was distilled, becoming a well-known expression that was named after Edward’s last name. What was Ed’s last name, and what is this pithy pessimistic platitude? Answer: Murphy, as in Murphy’s Law: “If anything can go wrong, it will.”

DEAR DR. ROACH: I was a smoker for 65 years, and I got tired of my doctor and everyone else telling me the dangers of smoking. I tried e-cigarettes about two months ago, and I am hooked on them. At first I didn’t like the taste, but now I have gotten used to it. There is a large amount of “smoke” from them, and it is darkening my teeth. What’s your take on this new fad? -- S.G. ANSWER: There is no doubt that tobacco has caused vast amounts of suffering and death. The jury is out on the net effect of e-cigarettes, but here are my thoughts. Although e-cigarettes are likely to be much less dangerous than regular cigarettes, there is no doubt in my mind that they are at least potentially harmful to health. On the good side, if they help you quit your smoking habit, they may have a benefit to you. You should use them to help you quit smoking, then ideally quit using them as well. However, there is a bad side, and that is when nonsmokers start using them. Some users don’t think of them as cigarettes at all, calling them “hookah pens,” “vape pens” or other euphemisms. They are simply devices to provide nicotine and flavorings. You used the term “hooked on them,” and they probably do have the potential for addiction. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: Why is Lactaid effective? Since it is an enzyme, why isn’t it denatured by stomach acid, then digested like other proteins? I know from experience that it works, but the biologist and chemist in me doesn’t understand how. -- D.M. ANSWER: Lactase, the enzyme in Lactaid, breaks down the milk sugar lactose, which many people can’t digest, into smaller sugars, glucose and galactose. The symptoms of lactose intolerance include bloating, gas and diarrhea. It works best in a slightly acidic environment, but will indeed be digested like other enzymes in the stomach once stomach acid can bring the pH in the stomach to the very acidic range. It works only because it is able to break down sugar faster than it is itself broken down. Clever people have designed lactase in forms that resist stomach acid and are active in the small intestine, which ought to work better. However, Lactaid works well enough for many people intolerant of milk. *** DEAR DR. ROACH: Years ago, I was told that eating raw carrots and fresh spinach improves vision. If this is true, why am I afflicted with macular degeneration after having eaten these for a long time? I also have taken vitamins to preserve vision for 10 years. Do these have justification? -- Anon. ANSWER: Fresh vegetables with beta carotene and certain multivitamins and minerals have been shown to slow the effect of age-related macular degeneration. It may be that you would have gotten macular degeneration both sooner and more severely had you not had a healthy diet and taken vitamins. Unfortunately, we don’t know of any preventive treatment -- nor any treatment once the disease has been diagnosed -- that is 100 percent effective. *** Dr. Roach regrets that he is unable to answer individual letters, but will incorporate them in the column whenever possible. Readers may email questions to ToYourGoodHealth@med. cornell.edu. To view and order health pamphlets, visit www.rbmamall.com, or write to P.O. Box 536475, Orlando, FL 32853-6475. * J.C. in Florida writes: “The one thing I might add to your tips about preparing deviled eggs] is to make sure the eggs are point down during storage. That will keep the yolks centered and make stuffing easier.” Great point! A little vinegar in the boiling water will help to keep egg in the shell if it cracks. * “I love to put photos of family on the fridge. But I found that the photos were getting ruined from grease and moisture in the air. To get around that -- and to really preserve them -- I cleaned and laminated them. Afterward, I hot-glued little magnets to the backs, and now I can move them around to accommodate new photos. There are so many, and it gives me pleasure to look at them.” -C.R. in Oklahoma * This is a classic money-saving tip as well as safety advice: Lower your water-heater temperature from 140 F to 120 F. You’ll save money on heating water, and reduce the risk of a painful burn from scalding. * “Add a cinnamon stick or softener sheet to your vacuum bag when you change it. While you clean, you’ll distribute the good smell throughout your home.” -- F.H. in Colorado

* Got a squeak in your hardwood floors? Dust a sprinkling of baby powder at the source of the squeak, and then use a brush to get it in the cracks. The powder will help to lubricate the boards and remove the squeak. * If you need to clean stained plastic storage or takeout containers that you’ll use again, do it with baking soda. Get the container wet, and then use a liberal amount of baking soda as a scrub. It’s abrasive but gentle -- and super safe. Send your tips to Now Here’s a Tip, c/o King Features Weekly Service, P.O. Look to us for your Canning Supplies. We carry Mrs. Wages Mixes, Lids, Fruit Pectin, etc. 5.4: Persevere Power – When Quitters Win By Ron Ross Quitting seems to be a way of life for so many people. How many teenagers do you know who quit school a few months before graduation? Look up and down your street – how many divorced people live around you? Did you ever get so mad at your boss that you walked off the job? What’s with all the quitting? You’ve heard the old saw, “Quitters never win and winners never quit,” but does it always apply? Sometimes we MUST quit. Sometimes we have no choice. Like Terry Fox, who started to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research running on a prosthesis on his amputated leg. After several thousand miles his run was interrupted by a massive attack of more cancer and he was forced to suspend his run and died soon thereafter. Like the lady who worked valiantly to save her marriage but her husband refused to cooperate and ran off with another woman. Like the various times in your and my lives when we could not see our way out of the ditch into which we had driven ourselves so we slammed on the brakes and just sat there for awhile. However, the times we are forced to quit are far fewer than those times when we just give up. From the moment we begin a challenging project, the reasons to quit come flying in our face. It’s too hard, it will take longer than planned, it costs more than we can afford, it looks
bleak ahead, the numbers don’t add up, are only a few of the “reasons” we think we must quit. Then there is the fear of failure or the fear of success. And of course, there is fatigue, or maybe it is laziness. And oh yes, doubt – especially self-doubt. So how do you separate the emotional and intellectual conflict between quitting and persevering? It begins with a clear definition of your “why”. Why you are doing what you are doing? If the “why” is clear and righteous and worthy, then the “how”, though perhaps to be interrupted, altered or delayed, will always find a way. Throughout any project, two choices will be constant: persevere or quit. The question I ask is this: Can the point at which your strength wanes be changed? Can your ability to persevere a little longer be extended? Can you increase your mental and physical resilience for the sake of your “why”? The answer is yes – as long as you go back the next day for more. The answer is yes – as long as you accept that there are times of progress and times of regression in every project. You may have to quit short of your goal more often than you want, but you never give up on your “why”. You take every experience in the process as a learning experience and you do what has to be done to build within you the resilience you need to persevere.
And remember this: the likelihood of defeating yourself is much greater than being defeated by something or someone else. It is possible you may need to quit a hundred times before you gain the knowledge, skills and experience to succeed on the 101st. That is when quitters win.

Online at www.lovemytidbits.com Lawnmower Zen
Q: My lawnmower didn’t seem to cut the grass as well last year as it did two years ago when it was new. Is there anything I can do to bring up its performance? -- Greg in Boise, Idaho A: A pre-season check and tune-up can really help your lawnmower’s performance. While the main issue here may be that the blades need sharpening, it’s a good idea to check other components to make sure they’re all OK. You might even want to schedule a mid-season check up, particularly if you’re having to mow every week or have a lot of yard to cut. You can sharpen the mower blades with a metal file, or a grinder, if you or a friend have one. Some hardware and home-improvement stores also offer this service. Gasoline can degrade over time, so empty the mower’s tank and fill it with fresh gas (some older mowers use a gas/oil mix). Check the oil. If it’s old or contaminated with grass particles, change it. Replace the mower’s air filter. Change the spark plug. Clean the undercarriage thoroughly, removing clumps of grass and debris. How you mow could be a factor, too. Are you mowing first thing in the morning to beat the heat? Wet grass forms clumps that can clog the mower, and mowing while it’s still damp with dew can damage the grass, too. Wait a few hours past sunup so the lawn dries out a bit. And don’t mow the grass right after it rains or has been watered. Letting your lawn grow too high between mowings also can cause grass to clump, slowing or even stalling the engine. Learn the recommended mowing height for your type of grass, and set your blade height accordingly. Mow often enough so that only the top third of the grass is trimmed away. TIP: After each mowing session, disconnect the spark plug wire (to prevent the mower from accidentally starting), tip it and remove any clumps of grass from the undercarriage using a hose or a sturdy brush -- never your hand.

Are You Ready for Hail? May is the month when the highest number of hailstorms occur, and your chances of having property damage rises considerably. The good news is that hail damage is generally included in your homeowner policy as an Act of God, as are tornadoes and hurricanes. That means an insurance company can’t single you out and raise your premiums if you file a claim. They would have to raise the rates for everyone in your area. Damage from hail can be anywhere it touches: your car, roof, windows, shingles, outdoor HVAC units and siding. Even your trees can suffer from hail damage. (Some hail can hit speeds as high as 120 mph, according to stormdamagecenter.org.) There are steps you can take to ensure that all your losses are covered by your insurance company. Take pictures in advance, lots of them, ideally digital, and store those either in a bank box or by emailing them to yourself. Do an inventory as well and keep the list in a safe place. The biggest problem with hail damage is being able to identify it. Broken windows and the windshield in your vehicle will be obvious. Shingles on your roof can take the brunt of the damage, and you might not even know it if your roof isn’t inspected by an expert after especially bad storms. Damaged shingles can leak, causing even more problems when water gets down into your home. The damage to skylights might not initially be obvious if it’s the gaskets that are cracked. Damage to your trees and landscaping might not be obvious if the root systems are injured and if water then saturates the roots. Remember: If you wait too long to get an inspection and to file a claim, you won’t be able to tie it to the hailstorm and your claim might be denied. Don’t make the repairs yourself, as this might void your policy. When it comes to setting your insurance deductible, find a balance between what you can afford to pay on a monthly basis versus what you’ll be forced to pay as a deductible should you have a claim. The higher the deductible, the lower the monthly premium. Check stormdamagecenter.org for more information. Must see: how to avoid contractor scams. (c) 2015 King Features Synd., Inc.

Want to Feel Better? Start Cleaning House
Seniors feel better after cleaning the house, according to a study done by the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. Who knew? Researchers looked at various influences on a senior's health and emotional well-being, such as environment, smoking, income, education, health, socioeconomics and exercise. The participants (ages 65 to 94) had one serious illness, were enrolled in both Medicaid and Medicare, and had physical limitations that kept them from at least one daily task, such as bathing, handling medications or dressing. What the researchers didn't expect was that doing housework and maintaining their own property had more of an impact on seniors than, for example, neighborhood poverty. They were able to prove what they'd seen: Seniors who lived in a neat and tidy environment were more satisfied than those whose environment was chaotic. I saw something similar when I helped a frail neighbor clean out her pantry. While roomy, the pantry was a jumble of items stacked on top of one another amid outdated, expired food. It was difficult to even write a grocery list because it was impossible to tell at a glance what she had. Once the pantry was neat and organized, she was delighted, and when I saw her again, she had started on the magazines and newspapers that were piled high on every flat surface, managing to take small armloads to the recycling bin outside her back door. She was quite proud of her accomplishment. The lesson here: With a small amount of effort, we can keep our environment neat (and safer) ... and the exercise is good for us. Shenanigans at the VA You have to wonder what some people are thinking when they try to put one over on the Department of Veterans Affairs. Item: In Boston, a veterans service officer date stamped a stack of blank documents, which then allowed him to backdate claims he was processing. He managed to get all those forms backdated because the datestamping machines weren’t locked, as they’re required to be. Item: In Colorado, an employee high up the food chain circumvented hiring practices by creating a position especially for a former co-worker with whom she had a personal relationship ... using that person’s resume as the description for the new position. When asked to submit to an interview, the employee said no, under advice of counsel, and instead retired. Item: A supervisor removed electronic controls that are used to process claims and told staff to “disregard Veterans Benefits Administration policy when processing some claims.” Out of 139 files checked, 100 had the controls removed. As a result, “some veterans may have continued to receive additional compensation for dependents that they were not entitled to receive.” Item (and it’s a biggie): Seven years after the 2006 data breach, VA information security employees and contract workers still reacted with “indifference, little sense of urgency, or responsibility concerning a possible cyber threat incident” and allowed employees to work remotely and access the VA network on their personally owned equipment ... from China and India! Further, when ordered to stop, the employees failed to try to determine if any of the VA data had been compromised. And this, I fear, is only the tip of the iceberg.
