How to Buy a Mansion you can see from Space!

(Really…) A few months back, I got the pleasure of working with Uber-Marketer Stephen Pierce. Short story of his life: He went from being completely homeless, living on the floor in an office building, to living in a $47 Million dollar mansion. Along the way he has created over 700 websites, and launched 100+ of his own products! At one point he was so successful in Affiliate Marketing that the owner of ClickBank sent him a personalized plaque for being the #1 Affiliate on the network. A Personal Note from the Owner of ClickBank! When I was working with him, I witnessed sales conferences where he would easily convert 3050% of attendees into buyers of $2000 and $5000 courses! Out of 500 people in a room, he would get 200 of them to pay $2000-$5000 for his advanced training… The energy was intense, to say the least. So, what was his Internet Marketing Secret? Was it some sort of special software? Secret Traffic Generation Strategy? Special Training? The one thing he focused on more than anything else, the one thing he taught most is the same thing that Matt Bacack (Mr. $1 Million in 1 Day) harps on constantly. It’s the same thing that thousands of successful Warrior Forum members talk about every day…

Mindset Every single successful person I’ve listened to or worked with has told me that mindset is the most important asset you can have in business. As Stephen Pierce likes to say: © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 5

“If you wanna get your money right, you gotta get your mind right.” Most people think lack of money is the cause of their problems. Real Estate Mogul Ryan Smith disproved this at a real estate seminar.

“All of you think that money is keeping you from becoming wealthy. Well, tomorrow I’ll bring in my checkbook. I’ll write out a One Million Dollar check to anyone who can bring me a profitable deal.” Money is not the obstacle… It’s not Time either…

Have you ever stopped eating for several days because you didn’t have time to eat? Or stopped using the bathroom because you didn’t have time? If something is important, you make time for it. We all have 24 hours in the day. Let’s say worst case scenario you have to sleep 8 hours a night and work 8 hours. Add another 2 hours for transportation, eating, and miscellaneous activities. This leaves you with 6 hours per day to build the business of your dreams. This means that you have 42 hours free per week even if you work your “Day-Job” 7 days a week! But most people are “Too Busy” to become truly successful. The reality is much sadder. The average American watches 24 hours of television per week! And the average person is on Facebook 40 minutes per day, or 4.6 hours per week! In fact, after the New Year hit, the 2010 data came out.

American’s now watch an average of 36 hours of Television per week! That’s 40+ hours per week of total crap. You could be building a long term business, make a shat load of money, then actually go and do the things that people on their couches will only ever get to watch. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 6

I’m serious about this. The mindset you have determines exactly how much money you make, how much success you have, and ultimately how much you enjoy life. Whenever you think there is some reason you can’t do something, let me ask you this:

If you took everything from Donald Trump. Would that keep him from building a Billion dollar empire? Hell No! In fact, Donald Trump has been so far in debt that he walked by a street bum one day and thought “That man is One Hundred Million dollars richer than I am.” He’s now squarely in the Billionaire category… Internet Marketer Matt Bacack went completely bankrupt before building several Multi-Million dollar companies. Personal Finance counselor Dave Ramsey filed for total bankruptcy before building back his fortune several times over.

If your mindset is right, the world can take everything and you’ll still build an empire. If you’re mindset is wrong, you’ll become one of the thousands of old people you see at casinos everywhere. Chain smoking unfiltered cigarettes, desperately pushing money into a slot machine, and hoping and praying that they’ll finally strike it rich. Become the Stephen Pierce Mind. Have a Mind like a steel trap.

Positive. Trained. Disciplined. It’s that or the mind of the fat lady in front of you at Wal-Mart. Your choice… © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 7

How this Book is Written I’ve created this guide to share with you exactly how to get traffic via Google Organic search. There won’t be lists of 100 things you can do to make money. There won’t be 20 different methods of generating traffic. I won’t even tell you that this will be easy. Even with advanced training, a monk-like mindset, and the work ethic of a horse:

Making money on the internet is F*cking hard! Everyone and his inbred cousin are trying to get in on their slice of the money pie. And contrary to most Gurus’ courses, there is a finite amount of money floating around on the internet.

The above screenshot shows monthly search traffic for “Dog Training” terms. Even with such a huge market, there is still a finite amount of traffic. Only so many people have dogs. Only so many of them want advice. [Dog Training] = 74,000 Exact Searches Per Month

74,000 is a Finite Number [Dog Training Videos] = 2,900 Exact Searches Per Month

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 8

2,900 is a Finite Number And it only gets worse when you go down the list… No guru wants to admit this, but let’s face it;

There is a finite amount of money out there. Only so many people actually want what you have to offer. You can wish and hope and use the “Law of Attraction” to try and make more money, but you will never be successful until you get in the game and start slicing off your piece of the money pie. We Internet Marketers are running a Marathon.

There is only one first place. Google is exactly the same. There is only 1 first place listing. It gets 40%+ of the traffic, and it’s the only place you should aim for in the search engines. Anything else isn’t worth your time. Trust me on this, and follow my advice very carefully here.

Only Aim for #1 in Google. Everything else is garbage. So your friend comes up to you and says “I’m #1 in Yahoo”. Here’s why you have the privilege of explaining (tactfully) that he’s an idiot:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 9

As of Q4 2010, Google has roughly an 85% market share. Yahoo is at 7% and Bing has 3%. Baidu is Chinese and no one except your grandfather uses Ask.com or AOL any more. You should be aiming for Google only. Yahoo and Bing traffic is icing on the cake, and will come naturally when you rank in Google.

Š 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 10

If you want to make money in SEO, aim for #1 or find another keyword. There are “Plenty of fish in the sea” for keywords, and you can always find another keyword with lower competition. But if you go for anything but #1 you will be kicking yourself later for wasting so much time and money. Really, the difference between #1 and everyone else is incredible. I’ll say it again for emphasis:

If you want to make money, you need to be #1. Now, let’s get back to the whole idea of finite money… When you take that first place spot, you’ll have to displace someone else’s website. This is called competition. Get used to it. You will have to take someone else’s piece of the pie. They will not like this, but you must be better than they are. You must be an expert in your craft. You must understand that making money online is a competition. Not a children’s television show where everyone wins.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 11

I’ve been lured into the ideal that the internet is so big that it’s basically unlimited traffic for everyone. This is crap. It’s a fallacy built to keep you excited just long enough to buy the next great course that will make you rich... Forget that garbage. The system I’m teaching you will be difficult, but the rewards… Oh….the rewards will be sweet!

Caveman Internet Marketing is difficult, and sometimes it sucks total ass. But a little pain at first is a hell of a lot better than working a $40k per year office job for the rest of your life!

The Only People Who Actually Make Money Online? Here’s another aspect of mindset most people won’t tell you, mainly so they can try and sell you 12 different courses each month. And it’s another separator of the 7-figure marketer and the 2-figure marketer.

Take a Guess at the Only People Who Make Money Online Is it the people who sell courses about making money online? NOPE (Look at the number of failed Internet Marketing Click Bank products. There are thousands!) Is it the people who understand the next “secret method” and use the law of attraction to find their dreams? DEFINITELY NOT THEM © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 12

(Mind Movies are great, but sooner or later you’ve got to sit down and get shit done!) I’ve heard the real “secret” of making money online from multiple (obscenely successful) sources and have personally experienced success only after following this method closely. If you want to make money online you have to:

Focus on One Thing at a Time!!! You could pick      

Facebook Marketing Twitter Traffic Generation Google Adwords Viral Traffic Search Engine Optimizaton or any one of hundreds of methods…

Interestingly enough, the key is not which method you choose. I’ve seen people make ungodly amounts of money in just about all of the different methods. It’s the fact that you stick to just one method until you’ve completely mastered it. I’ve chosen Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as my single traffic generation strategy. Only when I delved deep into SEO did I actually start making money online. And trust me; I’ve been through a whole gamut of “Traffic Generation” courses. It sounds great if someone is selling a course on 10 different traffic generation strategies. “WOW, I’m getting 10 different ways of making money!” The truth is that none of those strategies will be mastered to the point of profitability.

Having 12 Traffic Strategies is like walking onto the basketball court, looking Michael Jordan in the eye, and saying “I’m good at 12 different sports. Bring it on!” After a full court schooling, and getting dunked on by a man older than your father, I’m pretty sure you would get the idea. In one of the SEO services I run, I had a client who does SEO for Frank Kern.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 13

FRANK KERN?!?! Frank Kern is not just successful, but Super-Guru status. He could send out an affiliate email in 30 seconds that could pay my entire salary this year. But guess what? My client, and very knowledgeable fellow SEO, knows he can outrank Frank Kern whenever he wants, for virtually any search term. He uses specialized SEO knowledge to win the game he is good at. And instead of competing, he decided it would be much more profitable to join up and do marketing for Frank Kern.

Whenever you think about getting the next “$1000 By Tomorrow” Internet Marketing course, remember this: The most successful people in any field specialize. According to Wikipedia, The average Family Practice Doctor (a generalist) makes: $175,000 a year The average Dermatologist (a specialist) makes: $331,000 a year Most people would even consider the Dermatologist’s job much simpler and easier. In fact, dermatologists work an average of 7 hours per week less. But since they are specialists, they make almost twice as much money. I have a tough time making an appointment with my dermatologist, because he is literally on vacation every other week. Every time I’m in there the discussion ends up being where he went deep sea diving at last week. Lucky Bastard!

Pledge yourself to specialize in one aspect of Internet Marketing. Pick one thing and do only that. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 14

Nothing else. Since working with Stephen Pierce, I’ve had the pleasure of attending a couple of his webinars. One webinar stuck with me to this day. He was having a discussion with a “Pay-Per-Click Expert” on what worked best with this form of advertising. Stephen’s in his mid 40’s now, and has been online for more than 10 years. Seeing as the internet was invented not so long ago, this makes him like 500 years old in the Internet Marketing World. Stephen mentioned a time when this particular “Expert” was just starting out, with no absolutely knowledge of the business. Stephen called him a year or so later, and he was still working on Pay-Per-Click. Several years later, they got to meet again. While other less successful people had moved on to different traffic generation methods, Stephen noticed that this particular person was still working on Pay-Per-Click. The difference was that now he was a “PPC Expert”. He hadn’t picked this status… While he was busy working on his craft this status had been thrust upon him, along with large sums of money from a thriving business. He was living in his dream house in Atlanta with everything material he had ever wanted. He spent more time with his family than the next five men his age, and successful marketers often called him out-of-the-blue for Pay-Per-Click advice.

The difference between this guy and the crowds of unsuccessful (broke) Internet Marketers out there is simple; Specialize and Thrive.

Warnings and Cautions

This guide is NOT Meant to be the Omnipotent Resource for all SEO In fact, much of this guide may be downright wrong. The SEO game is constantly changing, and you should never take one person’s opinion as fact. Besides, only some of the results I’ll show you are based on strict numerical data and experimentation. Other results are derived from personal observation and “Feel”. On that same note, I’ve had some of the most heated discussions you could imagine with fellow Internet Marketers on very, very specific aspects of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Guess what? Neither one of us knew for sure what was actually correct!

There’s hundreds of variables to the Google Search Ranking Algorithm, and it’s all completely secret. Like, locked in a vault with laser beams around it Mission Impossible style secret. Even if we were handed the Google Search Algorithm right now, we probably wouldn’t be able to decode it anyways. And once we did figure it out, the whole algorithm would already be outdated! Google has come out and said that

The Google Search Algorithm was changed Something like 300 times last year! So much for any of us figuring it out any time soon. Keep this in mind if you choose the path of SEO: The internet landscape is constantly changing. Google is constantly changing. It is virtually impossible to figure out all the details.

But You Don’t Have to Figure Out the Details © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 16

If you understand a few basic principles of SEO, you can use some logic to fill in the gaps and rank well for some very nice keywords. People, especially Internet Marketers, love to debate minutia.   

Will the $7 or $6.99 price point sell more products? Will an authority site with lots of pages indexed outrank an equal PR site with less indexed pages? If cows sleep standing up, do they poop while sleeping?

These are all great questions, mind you. But they have one thing in common; none of them put any more money in your bank account. When things get confusing in SEO, just:

Remember a Few Basic Principles then TAKE MASSIVE ACTION I’ve had discussions about pointless SEO babble for hours before. Literally…hours. But afterwards, never once did I run to the computer and build a new website. It’s disempowering to think too much about something as complex as SEO. If you follow some basic principles you won’t have to think much about it. You’ll be taking action and making money. And a giant pulsing bank account is the best argument ender in the world 

The Crappy Diner Effect You can hire a copywriter. You can hire a site designer. You can pay someone to make widgets.

Finding Someone Who Can Drive Traffic is Near Impossible Why? Because getting targeted people to your website is one of the most difficult aspects of Internet Marketing. Let me give you an analogy to make things clearer:

Pick Your Restaurant Your goal is to make $10,000 this month to save your dying mother. Luckily, a rich friend of yours is looking to give you a restaurant as a gift. For some reason, he won’t give you the money to save your mother, but he’ll give you a restaurant. But wait, you have to pick between two restaurants: Restaurant #1 – Built just last year, this Eight Million Dollar restaurant looks more like a palace. On top of the grandeur and class, Restaurant #1 is fully staffed with the 15 of the best chef’s from around the globe. Each waiter has the charm of James Bond, along with 20+ years of restaurant experience. You would have no problem inviting the President over to dine here. There is only one problem; Restaurant #1 is located deep in the Nevada desert, on Old County Line Road C. Last year, five cars passed by the restaurant. One person came in to eat. Restaurant #2 – Built by a group of angry Irish immigrants nearly 50 years ago, Restaurant #2 is so run down as to be nearly indistinguishable from the dumpsters in front of it. If the angry man in a stained wife beater isn’t working, it’s the 400 pound lady who constantly chain-smokes unfiltered cigarettes indoors. There is no working bathroom, but you could probably just take a shit on the floor and no one would notice. However, the restaurant serves edible food. It’s far from gourmet, but tastes alright when you’re hungry. Oh, and it’s

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 18

half a block from Times Square in New York City. 5000 people walk by every day, and the restaurant is always packed with starving business men.

If you had to make $10,000 this month which restaurant would you pick?

We all want to own Restaurant #1 (The Palace).

But in reality Restaurant #2 (The Dumpster Diner) would make you that $10k with extra money to spare.

Why is the Dumpster Diner so much better?

Traffic The same goes for your website. If you can get 5000 hungry people through your website each day, it’s simply a matter of monetizing the site and you would be making some serious cash. Conversely, you could have the best written website content on the planet, but if no one ever reads it you’ll never make a dime. Besides, I’m sure most people are already thinking about how to solve the restaurant problem. If Restaurant #2 gets that many visitors, why not just fix it up and mop the floor. Then you’ll really be making a killing! The same goes for your website. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 19

If you can get visitors to your site, it’s only a matter of tweaking a few things and you’ll have a high-conversion cash machine on your hands! There are all sorts of courses out there about building a highly converting website. We’ve got courses about outsourcing, courses about sales funnels, courses about making products, and on and on and on… But if you don’t have any website visitors, you’ll never make any money!

This Guide is All about Getting Visitors to Your Site There are hundreds and hundreds of ways to get visitors to your site, but we’ll be covering just one:

Search Engine Traffic More specifically, I’m referring to “Search Engine Optimization”; the methods and strategies to ranking #1 in Organic Search.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 20

Basic Tenets of SEO 1. Taking Action is Key – This could sum up all of life, but it’s doubly important in the SEO game. Actually building a site and backlinking the snot out of it is what gets you high Google rankings. Thinking out a game plan is great, but actually building something is what will make you money. Remember that a crappy site can rank high in Google, and can always be edited later. Aiming for perfection is an excuse for inaction and laziness. Consider any mistakes along the way as an education, and get started building your empire as soon as possible. 2. You Choose Where Your Site Ranks in Google – For years I was under the impression that Google Organic search results were completely unchangeable. I (mistakenly) thought that Google Organic Search Rankings were determined by some unknown algorithm and couldn’t be changed by me, the website owner. This couldn’t be farther from the truth. Realizing that you can choose where in Google your site ranks is a huge mindset change for most Internet Marketers. Once you understand how the Google Search Algorithm works, you’ll be kicking yourself for not putting your site at #1 sooner. 3. Organic Search Traffic is NOT Free. It’s a One-Time Fee. – I’ve been through the trenches with Adwords and other paid advertising mediums, and let me tell you, Organic Search Traffic is awesome. The problem is that most people call it “Free” Traffic, and this is completely wrong. You will pay to get to the top of Google, one way or another. You can pay Adwords and rank at the top of Google immediately. This is usually cheaper in the short term and much more expensive long term. Or, you can pay for SEO. You pay to build content, pay to build backlinks to that page, and pay to index those backlinks so Google finds and counts them. This is expensive at first, but typically much cheaper in the long term. Generally once you are at the #1 spot you’ll stay there unless someone else tries to knock you down (rare). 4. Organic Search Involves Money and Brains – Most people who partake in Search Engine Marketing don’t understand the basics of ranking sites for Organic Search. They haven’t yet grasped the mindset of #2 above, the fact that you can actively put your site at #1 in © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 21

Google. So they move into Pay-Per-Click (PPC), opening an Adwords account and putting up their Ads. Other marketers have the same idea, and they quickly flood the marketplace. Since PPC is a bidding system, this competition drives bid prices higher and higher until the only real winner is Google. Every business is now paying out their ears just to get visitors to their site. As the internet has matured, this PPC “Saturation” has hit just about every market and keyword you can find. Profitable keywords are getting virtually impossible to dig up. On the other hand, most marketers don’t actually know a thing about Organic Search rankings. This leaves plenty of openings for you to rank for keywords you otherwise would not have been able to get traffic from. It also makes Organic Search much cheaper from a long term “per-visitor” perspective. 5. There is Competition in Organic Search – Another huge mindset shift here. SEO is a game, and there are plenty of players. You will have to be good to beat them all. But don’t get discouraged too quick. If you pledge yourself a master of the SEO craft, you will quickly walk all over these fools. Winning the Organic Search game takes plenty of specialized knowledge, and I would only recommend that people who specialize in nothing but SEO start playing. But let me tell you, it’s definitely winnable. I’ve beaten hundreds of established marketers during Click Bank Internet Marketing launches. Trust me; if you get good at this the competition will be laughable for most things. There are, however, plenty of keywords you or I will never have the money or time to rank for. There are giants out there in SEO. Trying to beat them is futile. I’ll show you how to avoid these keywords and go after the markets where you can win and make money. 6. Google is an Algorithm – There are literally billions and billions of web pages on the internet today. Google’s job is to categorize these pages, break them down into quantifiable numbers, and display them in a specific order based on their “relevance”. There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that this job could be done by humans. The only way this massive task could be undertaken is with a very specific computer program; the Google Search Algorithm. I hear people on forums constantly worrying about “foot printing” and leaving patterns that Google might find. This is crazy, and I’ll show you why. Imagine you are Google, and you have to categorize 1,000,000,000 (1 Billion Pages). Now all of a sudden you are tasked with the idea of having to find a pattern between just two of these pages. You have a giant matrix of possibilities, and you have to multiply every page by every other page to find all the possible combinations. That’s 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 combinations. Now you have to find patterns between 10 or 20 different pages in order to find “Footprints” and patterns. That’s 1,000,000,00020 for you math nerds. How many combinations is that? (Hint: It’s a lot). There is no computer in the world that could figure this ridiculous combination out. Google can’t figure it out © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 22

either. Besides, even if they created a computer powerful enough to undertake this ridiculous scenario, there would be so many “naturally occurring” patterns that almost every website online would be penalized for some weird linking pattern. Bottom Line: Stop being paranoid about Google. Stop worrying about Google looking over your shoulder or personally reviewing your site and penalizing it. The only thing Google personally reviews are re-inclusion requests (that you submit to them) and Google Adwords pages. Trust me, I’ve had pages rejected from Google Adwords that later ranked #1 for 3000 searches per day keywords. Google does not manually review Organic Listings. They trust their algorithm to do that hard work. That algorithm can be fooled. 7. On-Page Optimization + Off-Page Optimization = Ranking in Google – As they say, the devil is in the details. But if you work in this order, you will do just fine. On-Page Optimization to setup your site. Then Off-Page Optimization to rank your site. If you’ve picked a market where you can win, ranking high will be surprisingly easy. 8. Pick Your Battles – Don’t go run out there and try to take on some ridiculous keyword like “Wedding Ring”. There are people way bigger than you or I who have been dominating that keyword for years. Be honest with yourself about your abilities and funding. There are companies that build MILLIONS of backlinks per year. They have $50,000 budgets for single keywords. You don’t want to try and beat them. It’s just a recipe for wasted money and disappointment. Pick battles you can win.

George Bush Ranked for What?!?

Here’s an example of how you can walk all over Google. I’m sure you probably heard this story years ago, had a little chuckle, and then forgot about it. Now it’s time to take a closer look at it… Way back in 2001, President George Bush was elected. At the time, plenty of news stories linked to the site WhiteHouse.gov. Others linked to the Wikipedia Page about George Bush. Most of these links had the anchor text “George Bush”, and the pages that were linked to ranked high for searches of “George Bush”.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 23

Sounds obvious, and really, this is Backlinking 101. Websites that get linked to with a certain term (also known as “anchor text”) will rank for those terms. These backlinks are like “votes” for which webpage is the most important. Interestingly enough

This Whole System Can be Gamed One day during Bush’s Presidency, a few clever link-builders decided to rank George Bush’s page for the term “Miserable Failure”.

Long story short, they did… George Bush ranked #1 for the term “Miserable Failure”. Hilariously enough, Jimmy Carter wasn’t far behind. Keep in mind that the WhiteHouse.gov page did not have “Miserable Failure” shown anywhere on the page. As most SEO’s will tell you, there was zero “On-Page Optimization” for the term “Miserable Failure”. Instead, this ranking was executed using nothing but backlinks to the page. And as you’ve probably already guessed, the anchor text of all these backlinks was “Miserable Failure”. So, George Bush ranked for the term “Miserable Failure”. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 24

Sidenote Then BBC News reported on it. Everyone started wondering: Are the Google Search Results broken?

Bad Google. Put yourself in time out…

Eventually Google freaked out from all the bad press and decided to change the “Miserable Failure” ranking. Whether they did this through an algorithm update (most likely) or a manual review (not their style, but very possible) is still up for debate.

Super Nerd SEO King

If you really want to spend an afternoon force feeding your brain SEO information, just search for: “Google Bomb” and “Google Bowling” It’ll change your whole mindset, and get you to expand your thinking a bit. It’s too much speculative information for this report, but the facts are certainly enlightening. Bottom Line:

There is a whole underground of advanced SEOs that manipulate Google search results every single day. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 25

The George Bush example, while totally hilarious, shows the real power of backlinks. But more importantly, it shows that

The Google ranking Algorithm can be Fooled! Tell Google to Make you a Sandwich! (Getting into the Google Domination Mindset) Many people think that tricking Google’s algorithm is worse than kicking grandma down a flight of stairs. Good! Seriously, the more people continue to live in fear of Google, the easier it is to rank sites for those of us who are willing to test the limits. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking about building some low quality Adsense site or AutoBlog and trying to rank it for super-competitive terms. Good luck with that… You could attempt that, but it would be a complete waste of time and would cost you serious revenue versus building a quality site. I’m telling you to game Google because you have to. Many of the best resources are not ranked the highest in Google.

Bottom Line: The system is broken, and if you’re happy on the 30th page of Google making no money, stop reading now. Have you ever built a terrific site, then looked in the top 10 search results and realized that everyone else’s site is total crap? Yea, me too. I’ve built awesome, super-high-quality sites and had them rank on Page 38 of Google. They get 0 visitors and make no money whatsoever. All while some garbage site is sitting at #1!

The Goal is to Build Quality Sites and Rank them #1 on Google. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 26

That’s what marketing is about. Getting real information in front of a hungry market, and then selling them stuff. I’m not suggesting you try and scam people with bad products or unethical marketing methods. What I am saying is that you have to get your information in front of the right people. For a good portion of the Organic Search terms you want, this means using Google’s algorithm to force your site to the #1 spot.

Caveman Traffic x Conversion = Money Leave the criticism to armchair quarterbacks who aren’t ranking and aren’t making money. These type of people will never get in the game and start kicking butt because they’re too worried that “Matt Cutts says not to do that…” Get with the program, Matt Cutts lies. Super Nerd SEO King Website age makes a difference in Google ranking. Matt Cutts has repeatedly said that website age does not affect search ranking, but from personal experience this is simply not true. In fact, judging from the marketplace for aged domains, Matt Cutts is most definitely, umm, bending the truth. Just watch videos of Matt Cutts talking to Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz. You can feel Rand’s eyes cutting through Matt Cutts soul with the words “you lying sack”. It’s never said, but you can definitely feel it through certain parts of the video. Hilarious. Matt Cutts doesn’t always outright lie, and the information he teaches regarding On-Page Website Optimization is pure gold. But when he starts talking about Off-Page Optimization (link-building) he’s usually lying out of his teeth. Personally, I watch Matt Cutts’ SEO videos all the time. They are great SEO training.

Most of What Matt Cutts Says is True. Just Don’t Believe Everything. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 27

Google is one huge algorithm. Google’s goal is to rank sites on relevance. But this “Relevance” is all determined with a giant equation. Put the right numbers into the equation and you’ll get the right numbers out. And, remember, the only number we want out is a #1 ranking.

Caveman Optimize your Site Build links Index Links Repeat

F*ck Your Algorithm (Adobe Reader Ranks #1 for “Click Here”)

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 28

If you ever doubt the Google system just search for the term “Click Here”. The Adobe Reader download page is a clear winner, because hundreds of thousands of pages link to the Adobe Reader download page. Typically, these links look something like this: To read this document, you will need Adobe Reader. To download a free copy of Adobe Reader Click Here.

The “Click Here” text links to: http://get.adobe.com/reader/ So despite having “Click Here” written nowhere on Adobe’s page, their Adobe Reader still ranks #1 for that term.

Backlinking is Powerful Attending the Google Dance

Photo: The literal…um…Google Dance © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 29

Google Dancing There is a fear tactic built into Google that keeps link builders from building too many links too fast. It’s affectionately known as the “Google Dance”. If you build links, your site will move in the search rankings. Often it will go down several spots before going up.

Dirty Dancing In fact, there is a version called “Dirty Dancing” where your site disappears completely for a few days or even a few weeks. When Google Dancing occurs, just continue to build links to your site as usual. Don’t freak out or change anything you are doing. During this time you can add, remove, or change content on your site, but it’s not necessary. Eventually your site will settle at a new ranking. When your site finally does come back, it will typically rank higher. Newbies on forums everywhere will tell you to stop backlinking when your site moves around in the search engines. Stopping Backlinking is the stupidest thing you could do! If your site starts moving in the search results:

Get Excited! Jump up and down. Call your friends. Imagine the ranking you’ll have when the site finally settles. Then build more and more links. Just remember, your site will come back higher. During the time when your site is dancing, don’t check your rankings daily. You will just go insane that way. Check rankings once per week, and focus on linkbuilding. Here’s quick example to drive the point home:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 30

My #1 Listing Cash Machine A few months back I built the site CataclysmReleaseDate.com to sell the World of Warcraft Cataclysm Expansion Pack through Amazon Affiliate Links. The site went online, I put up one page of review content optimized for “Cataclysm Release Date” and started backlinking it. After $200 worth of outsourced links the site was #6 or so on Google. So what did I do? I did the thing most link-builders are absolutely petrified to execute. I pointed xRumer profile blasts directly at my money site. 4000 links per DAY were built directly to my site.

Game on Google! Within a week, my site completely disappeared from Google. Not just page two, or three, or even page 38. Gone. Completely Gone. I chalked it up to a total failure, but kept the xRumer blasts going while I focused on other things. Figured I’d really test the limits. What was the worst that could happen? My site would disappear? It already had… About 3 weeks later, after I had completely forgot that CataclysmReleaseDate.com existed, my Amazon Associates account exploded with commissions. One night the site randomly appeared at #1/2 in Google for “Cataclysm Release Date”. It’s stayed there until today. In the process, the site has made me over $700 and was bringing in 3000 visitors PER DAY at its peak!

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 31

Google will screw with your head. Think long term and keep backlinking your site no matter what happens. If you’re really worried about a “Too Many Links” penalty and are stuck in your old ways, consider testing this theory with a “Disposable” website. Make a 1 page affiliate site and test out this theory. When you see that the site can actually rank #1 after a month or two, you’ll start pointing tons of links at your main sites. Then when you see how fast an established, aged website can rank, you’ll really thank me. I’ve had a local business website about 1 year old rank #1 for local terms in less than 7 days with this strategy. These are all low competition terms, but they make plenty of money!

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 32

Super Nerd SEO King

Around the same time as the backlink blitz of 4000 links per day, I also implemented a 10% anchor text variation, something I now recommend for all backlinking. After the George Bush “Google Bomb”, it’s entirely possible that Google built in some spam filters for having 100% of the same anchor text. After all, the odds of every single link pointing to my site with the exact same anchor text (“Cataclysm Release Date”) would be nearly impossible. This would indicate to Google that I’m artificially building links for that keyword, and they would penalize my site to keep it from ranking too high and screwing up the quality of their search results. Keep in mind, the existence of this “Link Spam Filter” is all very theoretical, and there are plenty of arguments for and against it. But, I’ve read more than one article about people building an obscene amount of links to their competitors to get them removed from the search results. Black Hat World has an entire section dedicated to “Google Bowling” – removing your competitors from the search engines so you can rank higher. This “Google Bowling” reportedly happens in high profit niches like “engagement ring” all the time. Competitors will send 500,000 links with the anchor text “engagement ring” or “giant penis” at the #1 competitor to de-rank them.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 33

Super Nerd SEO King (Part 2)

Personally, when building links I’d rather avoid “Google Bowling” my own site. For this reason, I’ll almost always build about 10% of my links with a varied anchor text For this example, I chose “Cataclysm Pre Order” and “Pre Order Cataclysm” for 10% of my links. The sole purpose of these 10% of links was to keep me from hitting any Link Spam Penalties and damaging my search rankings. The other 90% of my links had the anchor text “Cataclysm Release Date”, which I actually ranked for.

Ideal Backlinking Strategy Example Site: www.CitizenBlueAngels.com Keyword: “Citizen Blue Angels” 90% of Links – “Citizen Blue Angels” (do not vary this) 10% of Links – “Citizen Watches”, “Citizen Mens”, “Mens Citizens Watch”, etc.

Picking a Keyword (or Market) without Killing Yourself One of the most valuable aspects of most internet marketing courses seems to be picking a market. There’s always some set-in-stone rule for picking your market that you have to remember. It’s usually something like the following.

Crazy Rules Set Forth by Most Systems 1. Less than 10,000 competing pages - This competing pages thing is total non-sense. Anyone who tells you to look at how many competing pages are out there for a search doesn’t know how to consistently rank sites at #1. 2. Product over $30 - Cheap products often convert better for impulse purchases. If you can sell 3000 widgets a month at $3 each that’s still $3,000 per month. 3. Affiliate Program paying out over 50% - I’ve made good money with the Amazon Associates program at 4-8% commission. Many affiliates make over $10,000 per month passive income with 7% commissions. 4. More than 5,000 exact searches per month - What if the product is $20,000 a sale and 500 hungry buyers search for it every month? Would you break this rule? I would. 5. Must be something you are particularly interested in - I’m interested in making money. I would build an authority site about menstruation if it made money. 6. More than 3 words in the keyword - The number of words in the keyword doesn’t have anything to do with actual competition. In general, longer keywords will be less competitive, but this is not always the case. 7. Very few competing marketers on the first page of Google - Most Marketers don’t know what they’re doing in SEO. You can beat them if you know what you’re doing. I’ve ranked #1 for Click Bank Internet Marketing launches, and those are all marketers. 8. Must be a “buyer keyword” - Define “Buyer Keyword”. You won’t know how a keyword converts until you are getting traffic for that keyword. If you’re really curious about how a keyword converts, send Google Adwords traffic to your page and see how many people buy. These rules go on and on until your head is spinning…

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 35

How do you remember all these criteria? More importantly:

How do you ever find a product or market that actually meets all these criteria? It’s absurd. Then on top of all that, you find the perfect keyword and it doesn’t meet the criteria. Let’s say you pick out the keyword “Blue Widgets” and it gets 50,000 exact searches a month, which is a ton. But, oh wait, it only sells for $15. Darn, that doesn’t meet our $30 minimum product price.

Forget all that nonsense. Forget all those constricting rules.

What if I could give you a system for picking keywords that tells you exactly how much money you can make before you even decide to start marketing for that keyword in the first place? Wouldn’t that just tickle your money bone the right way?  Well, that’s what I’m about to show you…

The Original Keyword Research Method (Don’t do this…) Here’s the original way I’ve done keyword research. First, I would find a bunch of top selling products in the Amazon Bestsellers category: http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers Let’s say I picked out the Syma 3 remote control helicopter.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 36

Here’s a close up picture:

So I decide to sell this product as an Amazon Affiliate. Despite the 4-8% affiliate payout, you can actually make a ton of money with this model. Most marketers would shy away from the 4% payout that Amazon starts with. However, if you break the traditional rules and go for Amazon Associates you will find a ton of money waiting. I ignored the average advice of avoiding Amazon and had my first $1000 month using the Amazon Affiliate Program. This is actually not a bad business model. So I’ve picked out a product. Now I’ll plug related keywords into the Google Adwords Keyword Tool: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal Here are the results from a quick search:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 37

In this case, I just searched for: Syma 3 helicopter Syma rc helicopter Syma helicopter Here’s a close up view of the results:

(Note: Ignore the “Competition” Column. It’s total crap.) Now, I look at the exact monthly search volume. (Note: You must select [Exact] Match Type on the left side. Otherwise the Broad Match Global Monthly Search Numbers will show. Broad Match search volume numbers will be way too high. [Exact] Match is your best bet.)

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 38

Let’s say I decide to go after the term: [Syma helicopter] I would run that term through Traffic Travis (Free Edition) to check out all the competitors on the first page of Google.

Here’s a close up shot of my competition:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 39

This is a great overview of the top 10 Competitors, but what does it all mean? After staring at this page drooling in a stupor for several minutes, I would go to Google and search for “syma helicopter”. I would look through the listings like I could somehow tell you each competitor’s strength based on some sort of Marketing Clairvoyance.

“I’ll know a good market when I see it…” Gimme a Break. Mindless Searching is not Market Research! The combination of miscellaneous data from the above chart and me staring at Google for hours on end led me into complete mental coma. So what did I do? I added more complexity, and looked at 3 or 4 different keywords at a time. After inducing complete information overload and watching my head explode like a watermelon in my mental theater, I would add this all into my “Profitability Spreadsheet”

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 40

The “Expected Position” column was often a complete guess. Would I be able to hack out a space at #3 or #4? What about Amazon.com? Could I beat them? Then there’s Wikipedia on that page… After all the random guessing, I would come up with a potential ranking and my super-powered spreadsheet would spit out a number.

$7.75 per Month?!? What happened to all this money that’s supposed to be floating around on the internet? I can’t retire on $93 per year! So what did I do after seeing this number? I bought 10 or 15 domains at a time and tried to rank all of them. No exaggeration, trying to run 15 websites at a time was like herding cats. Cats on uppers that are deathly afraid of humans. Not fun. I played this crazy game until I had 50+ websites. Most were ranking on the first page, and most made me $0 each month. After several months, in order to avoid complete mental implosion, I deleted every single website but one.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 41

http://HaloReachPreOrder.com was the only website making any money. In fact, in less than a month it made enough to buy the $1000 laptop I’m writing this on. Waking up to make $40 one day then $60 the next day is F*cking Exhilarating. (Much better than $10 per month) And how did I do this?

It did this with a #1 ranking for a high traffic keyword Let me repeat myself again:

Rule #1 – When it comes to Google Ranking, its #1 or Nothing! The New Way to Find Profitable Keywords Since the good old days of running 50+ websites, I’ve cleaned up shop and determined a better way of doing market research. Finding keywords is still the same. Just sit around in Google Adwords Keyword Tool and brainstorm. I wish there was a better way, but you really just have to spend time in the Keyword Tool. If you’re planning on doing affiliate marketing, here are some places to find your next product to promote: Niche-A-Day - Niche-A-Day [NAD] is a free email subscription that will send you a new niche market every day. Each email gives you a broad market keyword and includes a zip file with a bunch of keywords. Amazon Bestsellers - Amazon Bestsellers is one of the best places to find hot selling products for your next niche site. I recommend either buying an exact match domain (Example: InceptionBlueRay.com) or starting up a larger affiliate site to sell multiple products (Example: TimsProductReviews.com). The former method gets high rankings quickly (due to the exact match domain name’s power) but is a poor long term business. The latter method (building a big affiliate site) is more long term, and grows in strength as you post more product reviews and build more links. I prefer the large affiliate review site, since your domain grows in strength over time.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 42

Shopping.com Top Searches - Shopping.com posts a complete list of their top selling items in all categories. It can be overwhelming at first, but it’s a great resource if you’re stuck without a product to sell. CB Engine - CB Engine is a ClickBank Marketplace Search Tool. If you’ve been online more than 5 minutes, you already know that ClickBank is one of the top affiliate programs online (if not the top affiliate program). The problem is that ClickBank’s built in product search is absolutely terrible. No joke, I’ve searched for “Muscle Building” before and gotten the result “ClickBank Code by Mike Jones”! You won’t be able to find products using the default ClickBank search engine. CB Engine is a ClickBank search website where you can filter ClickBank products by all sorts of variables. Let’s say I want Health products with gravity between 50 and 100 that payout more than $15.

There are also tons of graphs about previous product performance, refund rates, and gravity.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 43

You can try CB Engine free, but it’s very limited in functionality. I sprang for the lifetime membership at $97 and it’s been worth every penny. Highly recommended if you want to be a ClickBank Affiliate. Click Here to get a subscription to CB Engine. eBay Pulse - Did you know that eBay posts data regarding for their most popular searches? You can jump on this site and see exactly what’s selling right now on eBay.

Rules for Picking Affiliate Products 1. Fill Demand - You want to pick a product that is already selling. Trust me, don’t try and market something that people aren’t buying. Filling demand is a great way to make money. Trying to make demand is a great way to hate your life. 2. Pick Your Battles - Pick a product you can actually rank for. Sure, we’d all love to rank for “Amazon Kindle” or “iPod Touch”, but it’s not gonna happen. “Niche Down” to find a keyword that you can actually rank for. 3. Run the Numbers - Always run the numbers ahead of time. Always know exactly how much money you will make.

The Two Step System for Determining Profitability

Step 1 - Income “How Much Money Will This Keyword Make Me?” I don’t believe in building a business without knowing how much money that business will make me. I’ve done that before, and it’s a recipe for failure. Similarly, I don’t believe in trying to rank for a keyword without knowing how much money that keyword will make me. I’m gonna show you how to predict exactly how much money you can make from a keyword before ever putting a site up or starting your SEO plan! © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 44

It’s all in the numbers. I want you to use the following assumptions for every keyword you plan on getting into:

Profit Assumptions Monthly Search Volume (Exact Local) = Variable Click-Through Rate (#1 Listing) = 40% Visitors who Purchase = 1% Profit from a Purchase = Variable

Here’s a Hypothetical scenario with the Syma Helicopter keyword we mentioned above. Monthly Search Volume (Exact Local) = 1000 Click-Through Rate (#1 Listing) = 40% Visitors who Purchase = 1% Profit from Purchase (Product Price $32.25 x 6% commission) = $1.93 1000 x 0.40 x 0.01 x 1.93 = $7.72 per month Out of 1000 searchers:    

400 will visit your page 4 of these people will buy a helicopter Each sale makes you $1.93 Total income for the month is $7.72

Now, since Amazon.com is International, we could assume the Global Monthly Search Volume number of 2900 searchers. That would get us a monthly income of $22.38.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 45

As you can see, it’s obvious that this search term is not going to make us rich. So, we’ll move on to the next one. But at least we know ahead of time which searches are going to make us money.

Always Know Ahead of Time How Much Money a Keyword will Make You You can see that by manipulating any variable in the equation we can change our income projections. You can work it backwards as well. Let’s say we wanted to make $500 per month from one keyword. We pick a $35 commission ClickBank product. We need to sell this product 14 times to make $500 this month. Since 1% of visitors purchase, 14 sales would mean we need 1400 visitors that month. Since #1 in Google gets us a 40% click-through, we would need a search term with 3500 searches a month to get 1400 visitors. So we go looking for a search term with 3500 searches a month to make our $500. Now, there are other variables involved. Perhaps you decide to rank your site for 10 terms that each get 350 searches per month. That would work too. Or maybe that single search phrase with 3500 searches per month is a “Freebie Seeker” keyword. Your conversion rates are only 0.5% and you make half as much money. Or you incidentally get plenty of long-tail traffic (keywords like “best syma helicopter for kids” or “german shepard dog training for peeing on the couch”). This traffic might add up and make you money. There are thousands of variables you could start thinking about. But if you get lost in this hypothetical non-sense, you will implode mentally.

Don’t Sit Around all Day Guessing at Market Profitability © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 46

Here’s the formula you should use every time you’re looking at a keyword: ---Exact Local Search Volume x 0.40 x 0.01 x Profit Per Sale = Monthly Profit ---2 Variables: Exact Local Search Volume and Profit Per Sale 1 Answer: Monthly Profit Don’t screw around thinking about all the “What Ifs”. Don’t make things too complex. Just plug data into the equation and see what comes out the other side. And remember, you can always write more articles, build more pages, and build more websites.

Don’t expect one giant superman keyword to retire you and your family Those $10,000+ per month keywords are, in most cases, already taken!

Step 2 - Expenses “How Much Will it Cost Me to Rank #1?” Now we have to determine exactly how much money it will cost us to rank for that juicy, money bearing search term we just found. Most people only see the income side of things, and never think about how much it actually costs to rank. Or they see competing sites like Amazon.com and Wikipedia and run away screaming. Both approaches are wrong.

We need to shift our mindset to the Return-On-Investment (ROI) perspective Every website online can be outranked with enough time, energy, and money. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 47

The question is; how much is it going to cost us to rank? There are essentially 2 factors that go into ranking a website:

1. The Cost of Putting up a Website/Content 2. The Cost of Backlinking and Indexing these Links Here are some assumptions you can use for Factor #1

From Scratch Costs - No Website, No Content Domain Name with Privacy: 0.3 hours / $12 (Moniker) Hosting: 0.5 hours / $15 with Unique IP (Host Gator) Installing and Setting up Wordpress: 1.0 hours / Free (Wordpress.org) Outsourced Article: 0.5 hours / $15 (Warrior Forum “Warriors for Hire” Section) Posting Article with SEO Tweaks: 0.5 hours / Free --

Total Spent: 2.8 hours / $42

Total Spent on Next Website: 2.4 hours / $27 Total Spent on Next Article on an Existing Website: 1.0 hours / $15 Once you get a website up and running, adding more content is actually very cheap. That’s where people get caught up. They don’t get involved in Factor #2, Backlinking. And as you already know, Backlinking is the most important factor for ranking your site #1 in Google. For the analysis of Backlinking, let’s take a look at SEO Spyglass. We want to use Spyglass’ Keyword Search Feature:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 48

Then basically mash the “Next >” button until SEO Spyglass starts searching for backlinks. After a minute or two, it will tell you the number of backlinks that site has.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 49

Then it’ll ask us if we’d like to “update our project for Backlink factors”. Hell yes we do!

Sidenote

Knowing how many backlinks your competitor has is not nearly as important as knowing what the On-Page PR and Anchor Text of each link is. Clicking “Yes” tells SEO Spyglass to go fetch this additional data for us.

Now SEO Spyglass will go out there and do all the hard work for us. The process of gather this data takes anywhere from 5 minutes to two hours, depending on the number of backlinks the site you’re analyzing currently has. When Spyglass is all done, you’ll get a nice page like this one:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 50

Here’s a zoomed in version:

Here are the things we really care about:

Breakdown of Backlink Factors Links Back: This basically tells you whether or not that page currently has a Backlink on it. We can ignore all the No’s in this column.

Anchor Text: This shows the text that page is getting linked to with. As you can see above, SymaHelicopter.com is getting all sorts of different anchor texts. Theoretically, even if they had © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 51

10,000 links to their page, only a few hundred might have the exact anchor text “Syma Helicopter”. That means that we could hypothetically outrank their page with 2000 total backlkinks, if more of our backlinks had the anchor text “Syma Helicopter”. It’s a bit more complicated than that, but you can definitely outrank sites by having more of one specific anchor text than they do.

Anchor URL: Where are people linking to on their site? The home page? An Internal Page? We can often outrank sites by having our links pointed to just one specific page, rather than being spread out amongst multiple pages

Page PR: Shows the Page Rank of the page linking to them. Note that Spyglass does not show the page rank of the website linking to them. It shows the Page Rank of the PAGE linking to them. This is what really counts for ranking calculations.

The Power of Focus Our goal is to get more links than the competitor’s site, and to target those links like a laser. Remember how school children used to burn ants with magnifying glasses. As creepy as this is, it illustrates an excellent point. The sun’s power isn’t enough to burn anything until it is focused onto a very small area.

Your competitor’s linking structure is spread out among their entire site. Their whole site is just “Warm”. Ranking for a bunch of terms. But not really ranking well for any one of them. Now you come along. You focus all your linking efforts on one page and one anchor text. The rest of your site gets neglected and not linked to. But that one page you’ve been linking to is now “On Fire”. It ranks #1 for the exact phrase you were targeting. This linking focus allows you to make more money than your competitor that isn’t focused.

Funnel all your backlinks to One Page and One Anchor Text. This will set your site “On Fire” and Rank it quickly for a Specific Term! © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 52

The Cost Calculation SEO Spyglass is an excellent tool, but data is still based on information retrieved from several places like Yahoo, IceRocket, and Google. Unfortunately, these sources don’t publish every known Backlink they’ve discovered. So the numbers you see in SEO Spyglass will be far less than the actual of backlinks those sites have. SymaHelicopter.com listed 123 backlinks, but in reality it could have anywhere from 10-5000 real backlinks. The listed number in SEO Spyglass is a great starting point, but don’t expect to go out and build 123 backlinks and immediately rank #1 for this term. SEO Spyglass found 8490 backlinks for “Health Insurance” (a very competitive phrase). I would imagine that the #1 competitor for “Health Insurance” has far more actual links than this. The baseline number should help you decide on a market, but don’t count on it being correct.

However, we can still estimate our Backlinking cost based on this baseline number. At this point, there’s a lot of guesswork, and it gets down to more of an art than a science. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 53

Once you start ranking sites, you’ll get more and more of a “feel” for what it takes to get #1. To find the total cost, take the number of backlinks the #1 competitor has and decide on how many links you will build and index. Let’s say we were planning on building 1000 indexed links to rank #1 for “Syma Helicopter”.  

Anchor Text for 900 Links - “Syma Helicopter” Anchor Text for 100 Links – “Buy RC Helicopter”, “Kids RC Helicopter”, “Syma 4000”, and “Best RC Helicopter” (to avoid any link spam penalties and get some long tail traffic)

Using link-building tactics I’ll share later in this report, we could decide on our strategy and price out our decision.

An Example of Backlinking Cost Drip Feed Blasts: 2000 links per day x 1 day x 0.5% index rate = 10 Indexed Links ($6) BacklinkIndexing.com: 2000 links over 1 month x 50% index rate = Boosting to 1000 indexed Links ($37)

Total Cost: $43 for 1000 links (Plus 20 minutes of our time) Now we know our expected cost to rank #1.

Earnings vs. Cost Expected Earnings at #1 Position: $7.72 per month automatic income Total Cost (Website and Backlinking): 2.8 hours / $85 one-time payment Now, isn’t that a nicer way to start a business than blindly guessing at what will make money? I’ve tried it both ways. Knowing how much $$ you’ll make ahead of time is significantly more enjoyable! There will be some guessing when making these calculations, but always take 30 seconds and run the numbers in your head before starting. You’ll be thanking yourself later. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 54

Now that we know how to pick keywords, let’s get on with ranking out new site 

How Google Ranks Sites There are 2 things that go into Google ranking a website. Don’t let anyone confuse you; these are the only two factors in play when ranking a site.

1. On-Page Optimization 2. Off-Page Optimization Naturally, the detail regarding each of these elements gets complex enough to make you want to put a gun in your mouth. But don’t give up on Internet Marketing just yet.

All complex SEO factors can be broken down into their component parts. Heck, I’ll even break them down for you right now! How nice is that 

On-Page Optimization The first step in ranking a webpage is getting the on-page optimization correct. With your On-Page SEO, you want to be targeting just one keyword per page. You can always build more pages for more keywords. And you can always add more keywords and try to rank this page for those keywords later.

Start out with just one target keyword. Remember, focus is key to high Google rankings.

You can’t expect to go after 2 or 3 keywords and rank for all of them at once. One more principle to keep in mind is that you can always change your On-Page content later. Let’s say you put up too many of the same keyword and get a keyword spamming penalty. Is your site permanently banned from Google? Heck No! Googlebot only knows what it sees right now. And if you take down the offending content your site will rise right back up in the SERPS. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 55

A post on SEOGadget by Richard Baxter shows exactly what can happen if you get offensive content on your blog, then how fast your site can rise back up in the search rankings after removing that content. The post shows exactly how fluid Google really is. It’s a good reminder that you can experiment pushing your site to the limit, then change it back and reverse any penalties. Besides, the “Hairy Asian Men” comment is hilarious! http://seogadget.co.uk/google-page-penalty-for-comment-spam-rankings-and-traffic-drop/ When it comes to putting up our webpage initially, you want to:

Start Conservative What I prefer to do is start with a very conservative On-Page strategy. I’ll still optimize for the keyword, meaning the keyword will be there plenty of times. But I won’t push the boundaries. Once the conservative page is online, I’ll switch to Backlinking that page and indexing those backlinks.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 56

If the page gets stuck somewhere on Page 1, I’ll fiddle with On-Page optimization again to see if I can squeeze some higher rankings out of the site. If I push too hard and the site gets penalized and drops, I’ll simply remove some keywords and the site will come back up. This fiddling is rarely necessary, and is really only used when my site sticks anywhere besides #1. For the most part, you can set up On-Page SEO once and never have to tweak it again. Of course, I’d still recommend editing your content for readers once you get a bunch of human visitors. Remember though; you really don’t have to write a High-Converting, Pulitzer Prize winning article to get your site ranking. You simple have to write so GoogleBot knows what you’re site is all about. Then make your content great once people are seeing it.

Get your “Crappy Diner” Site out there Then let site earnings pay for upgrades Reportedly, there are hundreds of On-Page SEO factors. We could be here for days discussing them. But I won’t keep you that long. Besides, no one has the full equation anyways. Arguing over minutia doesn’t put our site at #1. Without further adieu, let’s walk through some of the more important On-Page Factors:

On Page SEO Factors          

On-Page Black Hat Website URL 301 Redirect (www to non-www) Website Age Title Tag H1 and H2 Tags Keyword Density 1-3% Outbound Links Keyword in First and Last Sentence Internal Linking © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 57

    

Image with Alt Text of Keyword Bold, Italic, and Underlined Keywords Relevant Content Building Content for Users Pre-Selling

On-Page Black Hat Black Hat has no place on your web page! No Black Hat is the #1 Rule of On-Page Optimization. This rule includes anything that tries to fool Googlebot or Human visitors, including keyword stuffing, hidden text, cloaking, alt tag spamming, meta tag spamming, etc… People have been trying to trick Google with on-page hacks for years. Google hires some pretty smart cookies, and their engineers have basically figured out all the tricks. Most of these tricks will get your site immediately penalized in Google. In most cases, your site won’t even show up in the Google index. Besides, on the rare chance you do find that one last trick Google hasn’t figured out, do you really want to build your income on the possibility of them figuring that trick out and deindexing your site? Save your Black Hat (or Grey Hat) for Off-Page Optimization. To provide a good baseline for ranking pages and making money, your web page itself should be spotlessly White Hat!

Website URL There are two distinct camps when it comes to URLs: Authority Sites and Exact Match Domains. Rather than ramble on about the arguments towards each, here are the differences in easy to digest list form: Authority Site – Advantages    

Domain Age Builds up over time Website PR, Inbound Links, and “Authority” Builds up over time Domain Name can be brandable and easily remembered (Amazon, eBay, Google, Warrior Forum, etc.) You won’t have to go through the hassle of finding a new domain for every new site (this is huge) © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 58

Exact Match Domain – Advantages  

Will rank much higher for one specific search term You can often develop a “Disposable Site” mindset that allows you to learn and experiment more. This experimentation often leads to higher rankings and more money! You can sell these sites off on a domain marketplace like Flippa or Digital Point

If you are planning on building just a quick one-off affiliate site for the keyword “netbook reviews” and NetbookReviews.com happens to be open, the Exact Match Domain would be pretty hard to pass up. The ranking advantage of an exact match domain is significant, and will give you a pretty good lead in getting to #1 in Google. But keep in mind that you should treat exact match domains as expendable mini-sites. They are not brandable, and therefore do not allow much for expansion. When NewEgg.com decided to sell Televisions, they had no problem expanding into that market. But you really could never sell televisions on NetbookReviews.com. Besides, if the term “netbook” goes out of style, NewEgg.com will still be selling computers, but NetbookReviews.com will not. So choose wisely when it comes to exact match domains. If you choose the exact match domain name route, I highly recommend Position Sniper for finding domain names.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 59

Here’s a screenshot of Position Sniper in action:

Position Sniper lets you narrow searches down by keyword and search volume. Using the calculations from earlier in the book, I could decide that I need, let’s say 5000 searches a month for a ClickBank Weight loss product to make $500. I’ll plug these criteria into the advanced search feature:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 60

Here are the results:

Done! In 5 minutes you could have 50centweightlosspictures.com with [5400] Exact Local Monthly Searches! You could easily post some pictures of 50 Cent’s drastic weight loss, then put up a CPA offer or ClickBank product in the right sidebar. Or sign people up for a weight loss email list and sell them product after product… And the first result in Google is a Huffington Post article with 4 pictures and almost no text! You could Backlink this exact site and probably be ranking #1 in less than 1 month. It’s really that simple if you have the right tools… Before position sniper, I had done the above searching with a 7 step process involving:     

Google Adwords Keyword Tool GoDaddy Mass Domain Checker Microsoft Excel Notepad and some serious Copy-Paste Skills…

Now it’s a 1-step process. Well, 2-steps if you count buying the domain. 3-Steps with the jumping up and down celebrating the great find. You get the idea… Position Sniper Official Site Besides choosing between an exact match domain name and an authority site, here’s one thing we can all agree on. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 61

The keyword you are trying to rank for should be in the URL of your website. Here’s a screenshot for emphasis. Let’s see if you can guess what keyword I’m trying to rank for:

Some backlinks helped this page out, but to show that this tactic is effective:

Bottom line: Try to rank for 1 Keyword and use that keyword somewhere in the URL of your site.

Super Nerd SEO King

“Siloing” Siloing is one idea that I personally believe to be a giant load of crap. The idea states that your website should have distinct sections, like silos at a farm. A farmer would never mix wheat and corn in the same silo, so your website should never mix content in the same directories. So, you shouldn’t mix televisions, with say, laptops. Unless you have a laptop with Google TV. Or your laptop is being used to watch a Television show online. Or if you decide to plug your laptop into your Television… Tell me, how does Google know if the content of your page is related to other pages on your site? Maybe I decide to make a section on Pets, but don’t separate Cats and Dogs. Do you really think the Google algorithm is gonna see that and penalize me?

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 63

Super Nerd SEO King (Part 2) What if I write about my dog watching television? Does Google have an algorithm that figures out that televisions and dogs are unrelated and ranks my site lower? The idea of siloing your website is stupid. When WhiteHouse.gov writes about a health care bill, does Google rank that website lower because the article isn’t in a HealthCare section of the website? What about News Sites? If NewYorkTimes.com runs an article on the space shuttle and puts it in the breaking news section, does that article rank lower because it’s next to an article about Paris Hilton binge drinking? Google can’t quantify whether two topics are related. And even if they could, they wouldn’t care. The internet is full of unrelated topics. Stop worrying about categorizing your site. This is one of the great things about Wordpress. Once I set my permalink structure, all my articles look like this: http://MikesFantasticWebsite.com/Space-Shuttle-Launch-on-Monday Google sees this URL and understands one thing; This article is probably about the “Space Shuttle Launch On Monday” Don’t waste your time with crazy “siloing” like this: http://MikesFantasticWebsite.com/News/Space/Space-Shuttle-Launch-on-Monday All this extraneous complexity is really not necessary. We’re trying to rank for a specific term, not make some complex folder system to trick Google into ranking us for everything under the sun.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 64

Super Nerd SEO King (Part 3) Especially avoid this. Probably the worst thing you can do for SEO: http://MikesFantasticWebsite.com/section5/march2010/article-id=17?p47 The keywords aren’t even in the URL! Plus you have question marks and all sorts of complex terms that don’t need to be there. If you’re running dynamic web pages (not recommended) you’ll need this extra junk at the end. Same goes for complex tracking ID’s (like Amazon Affiliate links). For those of us who actually want to rank sites for specific terms, leave off all the excess garbage and keep the URL simple. Again, don’t worry about complex folder structures and sections. Just make pages on your domain with the URL of the term you’re looking to rank for. It’s really that easy. Promise.

301 Redirect Did you know that your website is technically 2 separate sites? http://www.MikesFantasticWebsite.com (“www” version) is NOT the same as http://MikesFantasticWebsite.com (“non-www” version) Most people build their website with the “www” in front of it and think that’s all there is to it. The problem here is that some people will link to you with the “www” url and others will link to you using the “non-www” url. Worse yet, you could be Backlinking your site in different ways…

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 65

One day you could Backlink http://MikesFantasticWebsite.com (no trailing slash) and the next day you could Backlink http://MikesFantasticWebsite.com/ (with a trailing slash) Doing this would split your link juice to 2 completely different pages! Worse yet, one of these pages would be considered duplicate content and not get listed in the SERPS. There are plenty of tricks for avoiding the duplicate page problem, but I recommend the following:  

301 Redirect your site from “www” to “non-www” – All backlinks, visitors, and search engines coming to the “www” version will be 301 redirected to the “non-www” version. Always link to the same version of your site – Pick one URL and do all your linking to that URL.

Many people ask me, why can’t I 301 redirect from the “non-www” to the “www” version of my site? You can. It doesn’t matter much which way you redirect.

www

 non-www

non-www  Doing Nothing

www

OK OK NOT OK

I choose to redirect from the “www” version to the “non-www” version, because if you use Fantastico to Install Wordpress it only works this way. Besides, “www” is not required and is becoming outdated for most new sites.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 66

The landscaping is changing towards “non-www” sites:

If you have an existing site, you should be doing all your linkbuilding to the page Google already has listed. Just Google your Site:

Click the link to go to your site. Then Backlink to the URL that’s shown in your Browser:

In this case, all my backlinks would be pointing at: http://backlinkindexing.com/ We want to boost our existing pages in Google. Linking to any other version than the one shown in Google is wasting our link-building efforts.

Super Nerd SEO King

Google is pretty good at figuring out which pages on a site is the “canonical” (standard or normal) page. The amount of decreased link power you get between a “www” and “non-www” version of your site is completely debatable. In fact, this point might be a non-issue. Google might be good enough to redirect your links for you. But I wouldn’t count on it. If you want one more level of security over a 301 redirect, you can set your website as “www” or “non-www” within Google Webmaster Tools. This tells Google for sure which version of your site to rank. Google Webmaster Central Canonicalization Description Google Webmaster Tools Preferred Domain Help

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 68

Here’s the 301 redirect code you to redirect your website from “www” to “non-www”. Put this code directly in your .htaccess file to make the redirect work:

Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.(.+)$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://%1/$1 [R=301,L] Remember the golden rule of working with code. Always save a copy of your original .htaccess file before fiddling with it. Then, for heaven’s sake, test your website after adding this code. The worst thing you can do is change a website, not check it, and then find out a week later that the site has been down the whole time!

Website Age The age of your website definitely counts toward your Google rankings. Now, I’ve ranked sites in as little as 6 weeks, but older sites definitely rank faster. Here’s a screenshot of a page I put on a 1 year old domain.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 69

NorthCoastPlowing.com was just over a year old, and didn’t have many backlinks itself. Still, with the aged domain name this brand new page ranked very easily. It’s debatable to what level Site Age affects your Google rankings, but it definitely plays a role. Although I wouldn’t let domain age stop me from ranking a new site, there is one critical step I take every time I buy a new domain. As soon as the new domain is purchased, I immediately log into my hosting cPanel and use Fantastico to install a Wordpress blog on the site. Then I log into the Wordpress blog and change the first post from the standard “Hello World” post to some sort of unique content. Here’s an example from HugeChews.com, a site I’m planning to rank in the nutritional supplement niche:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 70

This first post is less than 100 words long. The content is complete crap, and it isn’t meant for anyone besides Googlebot to see. The Opt-In box and slight pre-sell in your post isn’t necessary unless you expect to get human visitors. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 71

The purpose of this first post is to get your website aging in Google:

All I did was put the site up and changed the first post from the common Wordpress “Hello World” to a unique piece of content. A few days later the site popped up in Google naturally. By the time I get around to starting this business, I’ll have a domain name that’s aged 3 or 4 months. Perfect for Ranking! Oh, but I can hear your brain bubbling right now.

“That’s nice, but I don’t have time for that with every new site. I’ll just wait until later to do it.”

You don’t have time not to do this! The whole process above took 5 minutes! Down the road, this one step will save me 3-4 weeks of waiting for my site to age. These 3-4 weeks are the most frustrating of your life, since you don’t know why your site won’t rank. Plus, there’s that Google “Sandbox” everyone keeps talking about for new sites. I don’t know whether or not the Sandbox is a myth, and I don’t care. By the time I get around to Backlinking my “new” site, it’ll be 2 or 3 months old. I’ll be ranking for all kinds of stuff overnight! In case you’re that lazy, here, I’ve written your first “Indexing Post” for you:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 72

Title: YOUR WEBSITE NAME is Under Construction Right Now!

Body: Hey there everybody :) I’m glad you’ve found my new website, YOUR WEBSITE NAME. Unfortunately, it’s under construction at the moment. There really isn’t anything more I can show you right now. If you check back at YOUR WEBSITE NAME in a few weeks, this site should be running and ready to go. See you then!

Even if everybody and their brother use this indexing post, it’s got your website name so the content will be unique enough to get indexed by Google. Then the SEO clock will be ticking on your site. When you’re ready to go, your domain will be ready too!

Title Tag One of the top On-Page Ranking factors is the Title of the Page itself. The title also shows up as the listing name in Google.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 73

It’s a very well known fact that title tag is one of the highest weighted On-Page Elements to a web page’s ranking, if not the highest On-Page Element. Search Engines will only allow 70 characters before cutting off your displayed title in the listings. Now, there are a number of options with respect to titling our pages. Personally, I usually go for the Exact Match Title. Exact Match Title Keyword to Rank for: Best Wordpress Themes Page Title: Best Wordpress Themes

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 74

Another option is a Front Loaded Title… Front Loaded Title Keyword to Rank for: Best Wordpress Themes Page Title: Best Wordpress Themes to Make Real Money!

Or the Branded Title… Branded Title Keyword to Rank for: Best Wordpress Themes Page Title: Best Wordpress Themes | WPThemePark.org If you want to avoid confusion, just start with the exact match domain and move on with other aspects of your article. You can always change your Title later to tweak Click Through rates or change your rankings.

H1 and H2 Tags Technically these are called “Heading Tags”. There are all sorts of heading tags; H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, H6. The most important are H1 and H2 Tags.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 75

The rule here is to have your keyword in the H1 and H2 tags. Matt Cutts has stated that having more than one H1 tag is OK, but I like to choose just one H1 tag with my Primary Keyword somewhere inside it. Then I’ll litter that Primary Keyword throughout my H2 tags. H2 Tags are for subheadings within the page. Example Keyword: Parma Snow Plowing URL: http://northcoastplowing.com/parma-snow-plowing.html Title Tag: Parma Snow Plowing | North Coast Plowing Picture Alt Tag: Parma Snow Plowing H1 Tag: Parma Snow Plowing H2 Tag #1: The Secret Pitfalls of Nearly all Residential Snow Plowing Services H2 Tag #2: Now Available: All The Parma Snow Plowing You Need For One Low Fee H2 Tag #3: How to Sign Up for Parma Snow Plowing (and surrounding areas) H2 Tag #4: How Billing Works When You Have Unlimited Monthly Snow Plowing Many people new to SEO are afraid to optimize this much. Š 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 76

But remember, Google isn’t a mind reader. You have to be blunt about things and just come out and say what your page is about. Obviously, the Backlinking tactics later in this guide helped achieve the following listing. But a #1 listing doesn’t lie. I did NOT get any sort of “Penalty” for the optimization you’ve seen above.

Keyword Density was fairly conservative, but the target keyword was mostly in H1 and H2 tags.

Keyword Density 1-3% Back in the 1990’s, keyword density was everything. In the good old starting days of Yahoo, whoever had the highest Keyword Density was #1. Then pages started showing up with every other word as the primary keyword.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 77

Keyword Density is Keyword Density. The importance of Keyword Density cannot be overstated if your Keyword Density is correct your Keyword Density rich website will rank high Keyword Density.    

Keyword Density Keyword Density Keyword Density Keyword Density

You get the idea. I don’t want to read that crap either… So the search engines capped maximum keyword density. Then, site owners started writing content with that exact maximum keyword density. Some guy would write a page where “Keyword Density” appeared, let’s say, 6% of the time. Even though the article sucked, it outranked everything else. Soon enough Google came along and placed much more emphasis on Backlinks to a page than the keyword density itself. Other sites “voting” for that page with links caused the page to rank higher. Not just what words were contained on the page. Today, keyword density exists in a happy medium.

Keyword Density has less emphasis than it used to But it’s still important for ranking your site Remember that maximum Keyword Density penalty? It still exists. If you decide to push the boundaries too far, Google will penalize your site rankings. The industry standard these days is 1-4% keyword density. Some SEO’s report going as high as 8% without any problems, but this is rare. Personally, I aim for a 1-2% keyword density to start my site off. Once site gets some backlinks and hits Page 1 of Google, I can watch rankings closely while tweaking Keyword Density for maximum effect. For most markets, you can usually leave your site at 2% keyword density all the way to a #1 ranking with no problems. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 78

But if you really need a boost, try upping the keyword density and see what happens. Now, I really don’t expect you to manually calculate keyword density. …Sit there and count every word of a 500 word article, then count out the number of keywords and divide both numbers. I don’t know about you, but I’ve got better things to do. You can calculate Keyword Density manually, but let’s be honest with ourselves, we won’t do it. It’s just too time consuming. For this very reason, I highly recommend the SEOPressor Wordpress Plugin It sits on the right side of your screen and automatically calculates the keyword density of your page.

Here’s a close up of the SEOPressor interface:

If I had to pick between only 3 Wordpress plugins for SEO, here’s my list: Platinum SEO cbNet Ping Optimizer SEOPressor Whether you manually calculate Keyword Density or use SEOPressor, make sure to check your keyword density. There, now I’ll rank #1 for Keyword Density 

The above paragraph is a joke Don’t actually do that on your website!

Outbound Links It almost seems silly that who you link out to would matter, but it does. Oh, it matters quite a bit. When someone goes to Google and types in a term like “Dog Training”, they expect to see a page about training their dog. It wouldn’t be too hard to imagine that the person who looked for “Dog Training” isn’t looking for “Naked Twins”. So why would they want the dog training site to link them to an adult site? I’d also venture to guess that they would be equally sour if the Dog Training page had links to a malware site that immediately downloaded viruses onto their computer. Since Google is obsessed with User Experience, they make 100% sure that sites in their search results don’t link out to adult pages, black hat sites, or malware. But you probably already knew this;

Link out to bad neighborhoods and your webpage will get penalized in the search results Remember this principle when someone asks to do a link exchange. Their site may be completely white hat now, but what happens when they get hacked and malware is installed on their site? That’s right; your site would drop in the rankings. Now you could remove the link to their site and reverse this rank drop very quickly. But would you even know that their site caused of the rank drop in the first place? © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 81

Probably not. You’d be wondering day in and day out why your site is suddenly not showing up in Google. Outbound Linking to a select few “Good” neighborhoods can help increase your website rankings, so don’t immediately clam up and stop linking out to other sites. You have to find a happy medium between complete paranoia and the “anything goes” mentality that will get you penalized.

Best Practices for Outbound Linking 1. A Select Few Links - Link out to a few Authority Sites that you know are completely secure (Wikipedia anyone?) 2. Stay Do-Follow - Keep all your outbound links do-follow. Some SEO’s have reported their sites dropping in the rankings after making all their outbound links no-follow. Other SEO’s will tell you to “plug the leaks” and no-follow all your links to keep PR within your site. Link Juice doesn’t “leak”, and I’d rather keep my links Do-Follow and err on the safe side. 3. Don’t Exchange Links – If you are exchanging links, buy a High PR domain specifically for this purpose. Don’t link exchange with a site you are trying to rank. If you really must exchange links, keep a very close eye on the sites you are linking out to.

Keyword in First and Last Sentence The importance of adding your keyword in the first and last sentence is certainly up for debate. Adding the keyword in the first and last sentence can’t hurt, but I wouldn’t let it affect the flow and readability of your page.

Internal Linking Internal Linking is one of the most overlooked aspects of SEO. In fact, one SEO firm stated that every single client they’ve met with has immediately benefitted from better in-site linking! © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 82

In a lot of cases, you’ll have one specific page that you’re trying to rank higher. Internal Linking is extremely valuable in this case. You can point some of the other pages on your site to this page and potentially see a rank increase! The extreme example of this is a link from your homepage. In most cases, your homepage will have the highest Page Rank, and will be able to flow a ton of “Link Juice” to the sub-page you are trying to rank.

Navigation Changes Another trick with internal linking lies in changing the Navigation of your website. Let’s say you own DogTrainersShop.com You specialize in “Dog Training DVDs” and would really like to rank your homepage for that term. In this case, change the “Home” link of your site to say “Dog Training DVDs”. Also, since the Logo of your site already links to the Home page, change the Alt Text of your logo image to “Dog Training DVDs”. Now, instead of telling Google your site is relevant for the term “Home”, you’re showing relevance for “Dog Training DVDs”. I’ve done this personally on BacklinkIndexing.com. If you look in the top left navigation, you’ll notice my home page link is “Backlink Indexing”. The term “Home” is overused and worthless. Site visitors usually know that the far left link is the home page. Changing that button to a relevant phrase is not only good for Googlebot, it helps the site visitors to understand what they’re clicking on.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 83

Image with Alt Text of Keyword Googlebot can’t tell if a picture of a door is for “Door” or “Dog Training”. Instead, Googlebot looks at the Alt Text of that picture to decide what it’s about. So, if I was writing a post about “Dog Training” and put up a picture of a dog, can you guess what the Alt Text might be? “Dog”

No

“Dog Training”

Definitely!

In every page of content I write there is almost always an image with the Alt Text I’m trying to rank for. In addition to that, I’ll make sure the description of that image has the keyword somewhere in it.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 84

Here’s an example for Parma Snow Plowing:

In this case, I decided to add a little caption under the picture to pre-sell the visitor to buy plow services. The Link URL takes them to my home page. Not only does this help inter-site linking, it keeps the customer from clicking on the pretty picture, getting distracted, and checking their Facebook.

Bold, Italic, and Underlined Keywords Bolding, Italicizing, and Underlining your primary keyword has been reported to have some effect on your Google rankings. I would imagine this is a very small effect, but it certainly can’t hurt to do this.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 85

To save some time you can have the SEOPressor plugin automatically underline, bold, and italicize your keyword so you don’t have to.

Relevant Content At this point, I think it’s obvious that you need relevant words on your web page to rank high in Google. Googlebot reads websites from a code perspective, where text is the primary element. Flash Images, Banners, and Web Pages without words are junk for SEO purposes. Fortunately, writing about your topic is also a great way to educate and sell Human site visitors. As far as SEO goes

Aim for 400+ Word Articles When it comes to review sites, longer articles typically sell better. In this case, aim for 1000+ word articles to up your conversion rate. But keep in mind that more is not always better. There really isn’t much evidence towards Google ranking your site higher on the basis of having more text. If you don’t have that much to say, don’t write a bunch of extra crap for the sake of writing it.

Build Content for Users Lots of SEOs get caught up in the idea of Keyword Density and Search Engine Perfection, only to forget why they built their website in the first place. Remember, the idea of your site is to make human visitors take some sort of action! Ideally this action is making a purchase. Convincing people to buy something means that you can’t have garbage content on your page. Remember some basics of marketing; educate your customer, then pre-sell them to go buy something. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 86

The keyword you are targeting should fit naturally within the page. In fact, if the visitor is actually looking for “Parma Snow Plowing”, slipping this into the text in several places should make them feel like they’ve come to the right place.

Never forget that you’re writing for real people If you show your page to a family member and they say “What the Hell is This?” it might be time for a re-write. Conversely, when they go to click the buy button before you can stop them, then you’ve written some quality content 

Tweaking Click-Through Rate Click through rate is the number of browsers that see your page versus the number that click on your listing. If 1000 people see your web page during a Google Search, and 400 click through, you would have a 40% click through rate. A few different elements show up in the Google Search Results: 1. Title 2. Description - Often pulled from Meta-Description 3. URL 4. Additional Listings – I’ve seen pages with up to 4 listings! Manipulating any of these factors can change the click-through rate to your website.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 87

Meta Description doesn’t have much effect (if any) on higher or lower Google Rankings, but it can be tweaked to increase click-through rates! The example above shows “Pound Sign Guy” working hard to get a higher click-through rate. One way of telling your click-through rate is Google Webmaster Tools:

Since Google will intentionally report false data, I don’t really trust this method. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 88

Webmaster tools listed one of my sites as Average Position 12, when in reality I’ve been #1 for about 5 months now. The only listing above me is a PPC Ad and 4 Shopping results. Even with the ads, the site would be #6. Not #12. Webmaster tools may be totally accurate, and it may be completely off. I don’t know. The more accurate way of checking your site’s click-through rate will cost you.

Checking Click-Through Rate using Adwords Data First, install some type of analytics software on your site so you can see how many visitors you get from a specific keyword search. Then setup Google Adwords to run on that keyword phrase. If you set the Cost-Per-Click (CPC) high enough in Adwords, your ad will show up on the first page constantly. After a few days, see how many impressions your Adwords ad has produced. Compare this impression data to the number of people that enter your site through organic search and you know your click through rate! Example: Adwords Ad: 5000 impressions per week Organic Search Visitors for that Keyword: 1585 visitors from organic search Organic Search click-through Rate: 31.7%

Visitor Numbers and Click-Through Rate The third way of checking click-through rate is very rough, but far easier than anything else. Just change your site’s Meta-Description or Title and see if you get more or less site visitors! Keep an eye on your rankings though, since a Title change could move your site up or down.

The On-Page Optimization Elevator Pitch Learning On-Page Optimization can feel like drinking water through a fire hose. For a second, I want you to forget all these complex rules and remember a few things:

 Write Quality Content for human visitors  Put the Keyword in the article Title, URL, H1 Tag, H2 Tag, and Picture Alt Tag  Make sure the Keyword Density is 1-4% If you follow these three rules and get your content out there, you will be ahead of 95% of other websites. Worry about the details later.

Off-Site Optimization Did you know that the Google Search Engine used to be called “BackRub”? The reason Larry Page and Sergey Brin created “BackRub” was to design a search engine based off “votes” from one site to the next. You see, up until Google (known then as “BackRub”), search engines relied only on a webpage’s content. If “Dogs” had the keyword density and the title of the page was “Dogs”, then that page ranked for the search term “Dogs”. The problem was, this may not be the most popular website online for Dog owners. In fact, with this old system there was no way to know which website was the most popular. The idea behind Google was to measure the popularity of each web page based on the number of other pages that were linking to it. So if 500 people are linking to DogWorld.com, then it should rank higher than CreepyJimsDogCircus.com, with only 3 inbound links. That’s the reason behind the name “BackRub”. The idea behind the name is that one site would “rub the back” of the other site by linking to it. Hey, don’t look at me; I couldn’t make up stuff this funny. If you don’t believe me, you can always go Backrub it… I mean, Google it… Anyways, with this new system a link from one site to another is a “Vote” for that site. Enough votes, and the BackRub Search Engine would place that site higher in the search rankings. These links are known as “Backlinks”. Since then, a few things have changed. Most importantly, “BackRub” lost the stupid name and became “Google”, the search engine most of us use today.

Sorry Grandpa, no one uses Yahoo or Ask.com anymore. As of December 2010 data from MarketShare.Hitslink.com, Google now controls about 85% of all web searches!

Ranking #1 in Google should be your only goal Ranking in other search engines is “Icing on the Cake” and will happen naturally if you are ranking well in Google Over time, Yahoo and MSN (now “Bing”) adopted the Backlink model as well. Most of the smaller Search Engines were bought up by Google, Yahoo, or Bing. More recently, Bing began powering Yahoo Search. Basically, we now have Google and “Everyone Else”. Google gets 85% of the searches, and they are the search engine you should by measuring your website’s ranking against.

Google is where the searches are Google is where the money is © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 92

Caveman Rank #1 in Google. Forget other Search Engines.

Google algorithms now take into effect two factors when ranking a website:

1. Content on the Page (On-Page Factors) 2. Backlinks to the Page (Off-Page Factors) These abstract ideas have to be quantified so each site on the internet can be ranked. Some have predicted that there are over 200 factors that go into ranking a site. I’ll bet there are even more than that. These factors are completely secret. Google tweaks them constantly, and keeps the details tightly under wraps. The bottom line, in case you’re wondering, is that

A Search Engine is Just an Algorithm A search engine is a series of math equations that take data from on-page and off-page factors above and give your site a rating. This rating is compared with other sites, and determines where you appear in the search results for a given search term. One thing to realize is very important.

On-Page Optimization is limited Off-Page Optimization is unlimited You can only optimize your On-Page factors so much before you reach an upper limit. Put in too many keywords, and you’ll trigger a keyword stuffing filter, destroying your On-Page Score. But with Off-Page Optimization, you can get thousands and thousands of links to your site without ever triggering a “Too Popular” Filter. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 93

Just think about how many links Facebook.com has for the word “Facebook”, or Wikipedia.org for the keyword “Wikipedia”. You really can’t build too many links. In fact, as we’ve seen earlier with the George Bush example, you can rank #1 in Google with no On-Page Optimization whatsoever! Just type “Click Here” into Google. Adobe Reader is #1 for that search term because everyone links to their site with the anchor text “Click Here”. Adobe doesn’t have the words “Click Here” anywhere on their web page!

Well, this Off-Page Optimization sounds great! So what’s the problem? The real problem is that most people ignore Off-Page Optimization (Backlinking) completely. They don’t rank high in Google, don’t get visitors, and don’t make any money. So what do they do? They write more content. They add more articles to their site. They submit to article directories.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 94

They kill themselves throwing more content at the internet in a desperate attempt to get visitors to their site. Remember this;

The internet is filled with THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of people putting up content Every day, more and more jump on the band wagon of writing articles. And since just adding content to a site doesn’t rank you above the 60 th page in Google, they think that they aren’t working hard enough to get ranked. So they write more articles…

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” Albert Einstein

By Einstein’s definition, these people are insane.

You can’t compete with this barrage of content by simply writing more content and joining the madness To win, to get visitors and make money, you need to focus.

Focus on one-page of content Get the on-page optimization right (like I showed you in the last chapter), then work on backlinking the crap out of your page! This is a complete mindset shift from what you may be used to. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 95

The whole concept hits you in the face like a 50 lb sand bag. Reading it from Wanda and Paula who make $30,000 per month with the Amazon Affiliate program (Affiliate Blog Online) drove the point home for me. A site visitor asked them one time:

How many pages do you need to make money online? Wanda and Paula’s Answer:

One In fact, Wanda and Paula didn’t begin to make any serious money until they focused on writing fewer reviews, and started focusing on quality. They began using 1100+ word reviews that included everything they knew their readers wanted. Then they built links to these pages. Their pages naturally get links from other sites due to their high quality. NOTE: This strategy is often called “link bait”, but it’s really just good business. As Wanda and Paula focus more on each page, they are building more links to each page, ranking higher and higher in Google and getting more traffic and sales to show for it.

The Winning SEO Strategy 1. Target a keyword that will make you money. 2. Build an optimized, high quality page of content for that keyword. 3. Backlink the crap out of that page. Make sure Google sees these backlinks. The problem is that most people are really good at step #1 and #2, but don’t know a damn thing about step 3. So they repeat steps 1 and 2 over and over without success. Don’t lie, you’ve done it too. I sure have.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 96

When I started incorporating Step 3 and started Backlinking like crazy, I started ranking #1. This came with targeted visitors and money. Before that, I was running 50+ sites and making close to $0 per month. After incorporating Step #3 and focusing on just one site, I made my first $1000 online. Then I built another site and made $800+ between ClickBank and Amazon Associates! When you realize that ranking websites #1 in Google is achievable, it stops you in your tracks. It’s a Zen moment when you realize that

SEO is a Winnable Game So F*ck everyone who’s not ranking sites. Let me show you how I get #1 without killing yourself. It’s not time-consuming, it’s not difficult, and it works.

The 3 Part Backlinking Recipe for Ranking #1 1. Build tons of Links 2. Build a few High On-Page PR Links 3. Get your Links Crawled and Indexed People love to make things more complicated than they should be. And in reality, there are a few details we will talk about after this explanation. But if you did nothing except follow these 3 steps and ignored all the crazy link schemes out there, you would be ahead of 99% of all link builders out there. Seriously, the above strategy is really all you need to rank sites.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 97

Part 1 – Build Tons of Links The base of all your linkbuilding strategies should be a solid amount of cheap links. In this phase, we’re going to try and get as many inbound links as possible, for as cheap as possible. This means that you’re going to have to start outsourcing all your link building. If you cannot afford to outsource, go get an offline job and put some money into your business. Every Guru and their brother will tell you that an online business can be started for $12, but to actually make money this is simply not the case. You will need to invest a certain amount of money for every page you want to rank. Typically there is a $50-$300 budget to rank a webpage #1. It’s nothing compared to other traffic sources (*cough* Adwords), but you still have to put up some money. Here’s an example for all of you who want to do this the “manual way”. You don’t have $200, so you decide to build your links manually. Off to build forum profiles you go. After 3 hours, you have built 180 profiles (1 per minute). Pretty good. Meanwhile, I’ve paid Drip Feed Blasts $180 and have setup my link building in 15 minutes. My page will receive 2000 forum profiles per day over the next 30 days. Total: 60,000 forum profiles. At full speed, those 60,000 forum profiles would take you 1000 hours to complete. That’s nearly 6 months of 40 hour work weeks! The Manual Way: 6 months The Automated Way: 15 minutes You have to start outsourcing and automating this stuff.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 98

Buying links in quantity makes calculating the per-link cost more important than ever. When you really start looking at what services cost per-link, you’ll realize that many of them are a rip off. In this stage, don’t worry about the “Quality” of your links. Simply go for quantity. When you analyze competing websites using SEO Spyglass, you can easily see that most links your competitors are getting to rank are actually PR0 links.

Most sites ranked #1 get 85%+ of their links from PR0 sites Let’s say you were building a site and letting people link to it naturally. If your site were popular, you’d get links from a ton of PR0 sites like BobsCrappyHobbyBlog.com …and maybe would be lucky to get a couple PR4 links from sites like JimsModeratelyPopularTechWebsite.com …then maybe, just maybe, you would get One PR7 link from a place like the TechCrunch.com homepage. But the majority of natural linking still comes from PR0 sites. Google still counts these links, and they can really add up towards high rankings when you get a lot of them! In fact, I would argue that on a cost-per-Google-rank-increase basis, these cheap links provide the highest possible ROI.

Quick Note about Domain Age Having a domain name older than 3 months will definitely help you in this stage, but don’t let a new domain stop you. I’ve ranked sites that are 2 weeks old in under a month using thousands of “Low-Quality” links. And I’ve also ranked 1 year old sites in under 7 days by blasting a ton of links at them. Domain age helps, but should never be a limiting factor.

At this stage, I recommend ordering a Drip Feed Blasts Account: Drip Feed Blasts Official Site They are the cheapest link building service I have ever found. After months of reluctant testing, I now have 2 accounts going full-bore at the 2000 links per day level.

Want more than 1 account at Drip Feed Blasts? It’s not listed on the sales page, but if you email Drip Feed Blasts after setting up one account, the second account you setup is eligible for a “Multiple Account Discount”. My second account was discounted from $179 to $125 per month with one email. Score!

Average Link Building Service Costs Most Commercial Services (not forum based) => $0.20-$2.00 per link .edu/.gov Links => $1.00 per link Manually Built Forum Profiles =>$0.05-$0.20 per link Drip Feed Blasts => $0.003 per link (that’s 3/10 of a penny per link!) Super Nerd SEO King

People everywhere love to talk about how they would never send xRumer Forum Profile links (the type of links Drip Feed Blasts makes) directly to their money sites. They go on and on about “Power Pyramids” and all sorts of confusing gibberish… “Good thing I have a ‘5 Tier Meganet’ pointing at my money site!” First off, WTF does that even mean?

Just because it sounds cool doesn’t mean it actually ranks sites I listened to this garbage for weeks before deciding to go ahead and link directly to my money sites. Now I will setup Drip Feed Blasts to run for 3-5 days and have a site pushing onto the first page of Google in under a month.

If you listen to people who have never sailed to the edge of the earth, you’ll constantly live in fear of falling off the edge. Anchor Text – Your Ace in the Hole! © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 102

Anchor Text - Your “Ace in the Hole” At this point I’m sure you’re with me on how important Backlinking really is. So you run off to rank your site. At first glance we notice that the #1 competing site is an On-Page PR4. Basically, that page has a shat ton of links. After looking closer at the competitor in SEO Spyglass, we notice that they have 2200 links pointing to their page. Shit Balls! I guess we won’t be ranking for this term after all. Or will we? Here’s one example to show that

You can use less links to beat a page with more links

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 103

According to Traffic Travis: Wikipedia has 380 links and CataclysmReleaseDate.com has 147 links In addition, Wikipedia is an On-Page PR5 aged over 8 years! My site was made a few months ago and is squarely a PR0. So how exactly did my tiny affiliate site beat Wikipedia for this term? Three Reasons:

1. Exact Match Domain Name 2. On-Page Optimization 3. Anchor Text of Backlinks Basically, my page was aimed at the term “Cataclysm Release Date”. Wikipedia was targeted to the term “World of Warcraft: Cataclysm”. We can manipulate the above 3 factors to rank higher than authority sites like Amazon.com and Wikipedia all the time. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 104

Even if you aren’t buying the exact match domain name for its added SEO bonus, you can still rank higher than a page with more links. The key is that you have more anchor text links with your term than the other page. For example, if my page has 150 links pointing to it with the anchor text “Cataclysm Release Date”, it will most likely out rank a page with 10,000 links pointing to it with the anchor text “Dog Training”. Obviously, if you typed in “Cataclysm Release Date”, you aren’t interested in training a new puppy. You want to get your hands on the World of Warcraft Cataclysm Expansion Pack! Google built their algorithm with this concept in mind. What you type in is what you get. And despite most myths of “Latent Semantic Indexing” (LSI Keywords) and Synonyms, Google is not yet very good at determining related words. So if my competitor is Backlinking with the term “World of Warcraft Expansion Pack”, they have 0 chance of ranking for the term “Cataclysm Release Date”. While the terms are logically related, the Google algorithm does not know this.

Google only knows what words are in the anchor text Neither of the above searches shares a single word.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 105

Super Nerd SEO King

Lots of people like to talk about writing with “LSI Keywords” in mind. In reality, most evidence points to the fact that Google does NOT use synonyms or “Latent Semantic Indexing” (LSI) in its search algorithm. Here are some resources that will get you thinking on the subject: 1st a Video from Stomping the Search Engines showing the science behind LSI keywords: http://www.stompernet.com/blog/warning-advanced-seo-technique-does-not-work/ The 2nd Video shows you how search engines work. This ties the 1 st video together and gets it all to make sense: http://stomping2.com/referential-integrity-rocks/ And here’s a long blog post referencing several studies and patents surrounding Latent Semantic Indexing: http://www.seo-blog.com/latent-semantic-index-lsi-myth.php The jury is still out as to what level Google uses Latent Semantic Indexing in its search algorithm. But the bottom line is, you need to target and rank for one keyword per page you create.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 106

Super Nerd SEO King (Part 2)

If you try to optimize your page for every related keyword, you will lose focus and never achieve that #1 ranking that will actually make you money. Besides, after you’re ranking #1 for your primary keyword, feel free to Backlink that page to get traffic from all sorts of long tail terms. For Example: Once you rank #1 for the term “Callaway Driver” (your primary keyword), you would begin blasting links with all sorts of varied (long tail) anchor text like “Highest Rated Callaway Golf Club” and “Callaway Golf Club of the Year 2009”. Just sure these long tail backlinks are terms with very low competition that you could rank #1 for with 10-15 backlinks.

The one advantage you have as a person actively building links is that you can target the exact keyword you want to rank for, and use that anchor text for all your links! Other pages will have scattered anchor text, and will not be nearly as targeted as you are. Remember that Wikipedia page I outranked? Let’s look at that page’s Backlink Profile:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 107

The page itself has 1000+ links that show up in SEO Spyglass! These are indexed links that have showed up in SEO Spyglass, which is a severely underreported representation of the actual number of links. In reality this page probably has 10,000+ links to it.

There is no way you can beat a site like Wikipedia on pure numbers. You need to use targeted anchor text! Now let’s look at Wikipedia’s anchor text:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 108

Most of the anchor text to this page is “Wikipedia”, “view story”, or “World of Warcraft: Cataclysm”. This page is not targeting the phrase “Cataclysm Release Date”. Now let’s look at my page:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 109

You can see I’ve built plenty of links to the page. Here’s the zoomed in version to show anchor text:

There are a lot of links targeting the exact term “Cataclysm Release Date”. When GoogleBot indexes my site, the Google algorithm will count up how many times people have linked to me with the term “Cataclysm Release Date”, and my site will get ranked higher for that term. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 110

Anchor text is a powerful weapon in SEO Many newer players in the game get paranoid, think that Google will penalize them, and decide to blast out links with all sorts of different anchor text. There site lacks the Backlinking power to rank for anything worthwhile, and they don’t get much traffic. On the other hand, seasoned Backlinking experts like Terry Kyle (owner of Backlinks Forum) constantly tell people NOT to vary their anchor text.

Send as many links as you can to each page with the same anchor text I agree with the second opinion. Well, 90% of the way that is. Being a little paranoid about there being a Link Spam filter for having 100% of the same anchor text, I will build 90% of my links with the same anchor text. Then, I’ll vary the remaining 10% of links. This assures I don’t “Google Bowl” my own site. In my experience, making 10% of my anchor text different keeps me from hitting a spam filter and having my site de-indexed or de-ranked. I know it’s very “tin foil hat” paranoid of me, but it keeps me from staying up at night worrying about link spam filters! Example Site: www.CitizenBlueAngels.com – Keyword “Citizen Blue Angels” 90% of Links – “Citizen Blue Angels” (do not vary this anchor text) 100% of High PR Links Here!

10% of Links – “Citizen Watches”, “Citizen Mens”, “Mens Citizens Watch”, etc. Only Cheap Links Here! IMPORTANT NOTE: Never ever vary high quality links, like High On-Page PR links. It would be a waste of money. The purpose of the 10% varied links is to avoid a penalty, not to rank for new keywords. Only cheap links go into this 10% group with the varied anchor text. Expensive links get the anchor text we want to rank for. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 111

A Quick Explanation of Page Rank (PR) Page Rank (PR) is a number assigned by Google to each web page it finds. This number, from 0 to 10, represents Google’s view of that web page’s importance. How Page Rank is exactly calculated is a secret. Here’s what Google has to say about PR: PageRank reflects our view of the importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results. PageRank also considers the importance of each page that casts a vote, as votes from some pages are considered to have greater value, thus giving the linked page greater value. We have always taken a pragmatic approach to help improve search quality and create useful products, and our technology uses the collective intelligence of the web to determine a page's importance. Typical Google public relations description. Vague explanation with the phrase “500 million variables” thrown in there to scare us. In all seriousness, the “500,000,000 variables” probably just points to the number of indexed web pages online. Since Page Rank uses links from web pages to determine importance, each web page online would technically be a “Variable” in the equation. But keep in mind that the actual calculation cannot be nearly that complex. Remember, Google is limited by its computing power, and it could not calculate 500,000,000 variables every time it needed to determine a Web Page’s PR value. Putting aside all the mumbo jumbo, it’s generally understood that

Page Rank roughly represents the number of inbound links (backlinks) a page has pointing to it

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 112

A page rank 10 website has the most links, while a Page Rank 0 Website has the least number of links. Page Rank Examples Google Search – PR10 - http://www.google.com/ World Wide Web Consortium – PR10 - http://www.w3.org/ US Government - PR10 - http://www.usa.gov/ Adobe Reader Download – PR10 - http://get.adobe.com/reader/ Facebook – PR10 – http://www.facebook.com MySpace – PR9 – http://myspace.com Ezine Articles – PR6 – http://ezinearticles.com

Finding PR of any Page To find out the Page Rank of any page, you can do one of the following.

1. Install the Live Page Rank Plugin for Firefox here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2007/

2. Download the Google Toolbar here: http://www.google.com/toolbar/ff/index.html

3. Enter an individual website to check here: http://www.prchecker.info/check_page_rank.php.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 113

Silly Rabbit! PR is for Pages. It’s very critical to note that each web PAGE has a Page Rank. A webSITE’s Page Rank does NOT carry over into its PAGES automatically. Here’s one example: http://ezinearticles.com PR6

http://ezinearticles.com/?Burn-Fat-Fast---Get-Ready-to-Lose-5-Pounds-in-a-Week&id=5650137 PR0

As you can see, the random article you put up on Ezine Articles has no PR. But the Ezine Articles home page is still a PR6. One more Example: http://www.adobe.com/ - PR9 http://get.adobe.com/reader/ - PR10 In the second case, a more specific page within the site has a higher page rank than the home page itself. This is rare, but certainly possible. Like I said, every PAGE online gets its own page rank. The publically displayed Page Rank you see in your web browser is updated every couple of months, so you won’t see Page Ranks changing from day to day. Most SEOs rightly assume that Google keeps its own PageRank calculations updated much more often. What’s important to note here is that if you Backlink the crap out of your PR0 page, it could all of a sudden go from PR0 right to PR4 overnight. Conversely, you could buy an aged PR4 domain from Digital Point and watch it go from PR4 to PR0 after the next update. Page Rank can basically tell you one thing: Approximately how many backlinks does this web page have? © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 114

You can still outrank competitors with higher PR pages than you, so you really shouldn’t judge competition by PR alone. Your competitors could have a PR5 page by getting links for a different term than the one you’re trying to rank for. Or your competitors could have really crappy On-Page Optimization… Or your PR0 page could really be a PR4 by now with all the links you’ve given it. But your page just hasn’t been updated by Google yet and still displays as a PR0 in your browser. Either way, don’t judge competition by PR alone. Always do an in-depth SEO Spyglass report on your competitor’s web page before starting an SEO battle.

Page Rank “flows” from one webpage to another, much like a river. Interestingly enough, you can gain a lot of this “Link Juice” and get a high Page Rank in two ways; lots of low PR links or a few High PR links. I have seen webpages with as few as 10-15 PR4 links to them become PR2, PR3, or even PR4 pages! I have also seen webpages with nothing but PR0 links to them become PR2, PR3, or even PR4 pages! More importantly, there are plenty of websites with enough links to them to have a PR value that just hasn’t been updated yet. There are PR5 websites out there that still show as a PR0 in the Google Toolbar.

Super Nerd SEO King (Part 2)

Page Rank Sculpting If you have a high PR page on your site, you can link it to some of the other pages you want to rank well on your site. Most of the time, your homepage is the highest PR page you will have. So, you put a link on your homepage to the page you want to rank higher. Link Juice flows from your home page (high PR) to the page of content (low PR), giving you a better chance of ranking that content page. Some people go overboard with Page Rank sculpting by putting 100’s of links on their homepage. This is obviously excessive, and would give site visitors a terrible user experience. But when you need to give one of two of your inner pages a boost, try sculpting some Page Rank to them!

Part 2 - Build a few High On-Page PR Links By now, you’ve probably realized that High-PR links also play an important role in your link building efforts. And from our Page Rank discussion you know that the PR of a domain http://ezinearticles.com is not the same as the PR of a PAGE on that domain http://ezinearticles.com/YourCrappyAffiliateArticle.html

Basically in this stage you want a link from the PR6 Homepage of EzineArticles.com, not the PR0 article page. Keep this in mind, because there are a lot of people out there advertising “High PR Forum Profiles”. These are simply forum profiles on forums with a high DOMAIN PR. The actual PAGE of the profile they create is a PR0.

Domain PR is NOT the same as Page PR If you bought links often advertised as “High PR Profiles” you would be paying way too much money for the same low-quality links we were after in the first section. Bad idea. Plus, you’re more likely to have your links removed by a moderator, since these High PR forums are a huge target for link spam. What we want in this section is High ON-PAGE PR. You want to be able to go to the exact page and see a PR value in your browser or Google Toolbar. If you see PR0, it’s NOT a high PR page. Here’s one example of a genuine High PR Blog post that you can comment on to get a link: http://flowplayer.org/blog/36

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 118

As you can see from the screenshot below, the moderators of this page don’t seem to mind lots of spam-y outbound links.

Š 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 119

A page like this one is perfect for our purposes. The problem is that there are hundreds, maybe thousands, of other commenters. Even though this link will still pass plenty of “link juice”, it’s far from ideal.

Outbound Linking and its Effect on Link Juice You might already know this, but the number of outbound links doesn’t directly divide link juice flow. However, even though link juice flow is not directly divided, most people believe that a ridiculously high number of outbound links (like the flowplayer page above) does decrease the value of each link to some degree. In the last ¼ of the following video, Matt Cutts concedes that pages with lots of Outbound Links still pass plenty of link credit: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/whiteboard-interview-googles-matt-cutts-on-redirects-trustmore Keep in mind, there is some amount of “Link Dilution” present on pages with hundreds and hundreds of outbound links. That makes the page above less than perfect, but still a valuable addition to our Backlinking combination. I would definitely still go for a link like the one at flowplayer.org. I just wouldn’t spend much time or money getting that link. Ideally, what we’d like to go for are High PR links with fewer other outbound links on the page. Let’s say, less than 100 outbound links on the page. This rule isn’t set in stone, and I’d say go get your link on any page you can. Just realize that very high numbers of outbound links on a page will likely decrease that link’s power somewhat. Now, how to go about getting these links?

Building a High-PR Network To get High PR links, some SEOs advocate buying up High PR domain names and building your own network of sites to get these high PR links. This is certainly a viable option, but in my opinion it’s far too expensive… More importantly, it consumes too much of your time and attention. Attention that should be used to focus on your core marketing. Attention that helps you make more money  © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 120

The Cost of Owning a High PR Network Here’s the conservative cost breakdown for only 30 PR2-4 links:

C-Class IP Hosting: $90 per month ($3 per month per IP) 30 PR 2-4 Websites: $900 one-time ($30 average per domain) 15 Hours to Find Domains: $150+ 15 Hours to Setup Wordpress Sites on Domains: $150+

Total Cost: $1200 upfront and $90 per month Total Cost Per-Money-Site (10 Money Sites): $120 upfront and $9 per month Total Cost Per-Money-Site (30 Money Sites): $40 upfront and $3 per month

Renting a High PR Network As you can see, owning your own Domain network only makes financial sense if you’ve got 10+ Money sites that need links. Even then, it’s barely worth the money. At 30 money sites, it makes somewhat more sense, but would still be a nightmare to run. The numbers don’t lie. It’s only profitable to buy and maintain High PR domains if you’re going to rent out your network for profit or you are an SEO firm with more than 30 client websites. For the rest of us looking to rank sites and make a buck, there is a better option; Renting space on someone else’s High PR network. Here’s a quick breakdown of a few of the High-PR services on the market today:

During the second re-opening of Terry Kyle’s service, it sold out in a few hours. Overnight everybody and their brother started renting their High PR network. If you need something to push your site over the edge for a high competition keyword phrase, this is it. Highly Recommended!

The 3 options are a great way to test out the service, and they have an interesting setup where they add links to your site each month. Personally, I think this works more towards your mindset than your results, but more links certainly can’t hurt!

As of right now, he has 2 networks on separate Class C IPs and separate sites. Basically, you can buy 1 package, try it out, then upgrade to 2 packages for your same money site. Using this service and a few days of Drip Feed Blasts, I ranked #1/2 for the term “Money Extractor” in 4 weeks with a 2 week old site (MoneyExtractorReview.com). This was a ClickBank Internet Marketing launch, which provides some of the “Toughest Keywords to Rank For”. I have since had Pat Jackson change my links to another URL and Anchor Text, so if you Google “Money Extractor” and see the site anywhere besides #1 you’ll see exactly how much these links made a difference. Highly recommended as a low priced option!

You still get the same total number of links, but you can split your links up between 2 sites if one site starts ranking #1 and you want to try and split off some of the links. Definitely looks like another great service.

The State of High PR Link Networks As you can see, there is no shortage of High PR link rental services on the market today. Back in 2009 and 2010, these services were nowhere to be found. You would have had to create your own network. After Terry Kyle released his Backlinks Hydra Report and told the SEO world about High-PR Backlinking, these services have been popping up like crazy. Of course, the list above will probably be outdated even the moment this report is released. So to find more networks, I recommend checking out the Backlinks Forum BFSO Section The BFSO section is similar to the Warrior Forum WSO (Warrior Special Offers) section, but targeted to linkbuilding (and not 247 pages long like the WSO section!).

Part 3 - Get your Links Crawled and Indexed If you understand the Backlinking strategies up to this point, you are ahead of 99% of all marketers online today. If you don’t believe me, just Google the name of the newest Internet Marketing Product. There are at least 5 pages (50+ listings) of reviews and affiliate sites. Often 200+ marketers competing for traffic. Here’s an example with “Copy Paste Traffic”:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 129

Page 4 of “Copy Paste Traffic” (a relatively small launch). There are at least 50 Marketers who have no idea how to do SEO. But they put up a website and hope. By now you know better than that. The reason I show you the picture above is to let you know that

You can beat any of these Marketers! With just the strategies you’ve learned up to this point, you can have rankings like this one:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 130

Or this listing:

If you’ve been paying attention, the above listings should make you mad.

You’ve got to get ANGRY!

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 131

There’s a reason the two websites above are not #1, and I’m gonna show you exactly why.

If you’re satisfied with a #2/3/4 listing, please close this report, delete it from your computer right now, and send me an email for a refund. I’ll be happy that you made it this far. It’s farther than 99% of marketers ever get. But if you want to rank #1… if you’re pissed off and fired up… Read on. We’re going to beat that last 1% of marketers and walk all over Google 

The Horrible Truth about Webpage Indexing

Despite popular belief, Google does NOT Index the entire internet. Some people estimate that Google indexes about 10% of the internet. I’d say it’s probably less than that by now… Remember those forum profiles we were making with Drip Feed Blasts in Step 1. 2000 profiles per day equals 2000 link per day, right? Wrong. It all depends on how many of these profiles Google actually crawls, then how many Google indexes. Justin Anderson of Linklicious.me noted this in a recent email:

Profile links get indexed at an abysmal rate - around .5% in our sample tests of 100,000 links. Most people think that pointing too many links at their site is keeping it low in the search rankings. In fact, the exact opposite is true. Google isn’t actually finding their links, and their site isn’t seeing any of the Backlinking power it should. Here’s an example with the Copy Paste Traffic website shown above:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 133

What you’re looking at is the indexing rate for 2000 links created in one day by my Drip Feed Blast subscription. Out of 2184 links, only 14 were indexed by Google?!?!

That’s 0.6% of my links “naturally” making their way into the Google Search Index Over 5 days, here are the results Links

Total Links

Indexed

Not-Indexed

Copy Paste Traffic Links 1 Copy Paste Traffic Links 2 Copy Paste Traffic Links 3 Copy Paste Traffic Links 4 Copy Paste Traffic Links 5 Total

2177 2140 2171 2150 2184 10822

25 21 43 34 14 137

1959 1922 1802 1753 2116 9552

Percent Indexed 1.15% 0.98% 1.98% 1.58% 0.64% 1.27%

Over 5 days where I should have 10,000 links my site actually got credit for 151 links The site is still ranking #2, but it could easily be #1 if do some things to make more of these links count.

The Four Forces of Link Indexing There are 4 distinct “stages” a web page can be at in Google:    

Not Crawled Crawled Indexed Cached

One of these statuses exists for every PAGE on the internet. The status of that page doesn’t describe how well that page will rank for specific search terms.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 134

It only shows how Google is currently treating that page. Over time, Google can decide to move the page back and forth from one status to another based on how important it deems that page to be for the Google index. Keep in mind the fact that every PAGE online has this status independent of other pages. Just because the homepage of a website is cached, that does not indicate that Google will Cache, Index, or even Crawl other pages on that website. To make more sense of this, let’s look at each status independently:

Not Crawled – GoogleBot has not visited this page. Either GoogleBot can’t find the page or GoogleBot has not yet gotten around to exploring the page. For most of the cases we will deal with, GoogleBot simply cannot find the page for one reason or another.

Crawled – GoogleBot has visited the Page, but has not placed it in the Google Index or Cache. Indexed – GoogleBot has visited the Page and decided that the page is important enough to be added to the Index and get shown in search results. The page is added to the Google Index, and will show up in certain searches. If you do a “site:” search you will find the page.

Cached – GoogleBot has visited the Page, Added that Page to the Index, and saved a snapshot version of that page.

Caveman Not Crawled – Bad Crawled – Good Indexed – Better Cached – Best

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 135

The problem is that most people overestimate Google’s ability to crawl the internet. Google is not an Omnipotent super creature that clairvoyantly “sees” the entirety of the internet every 5 minutes. Basically, if there isn’t some sort of link or Ping leading GoogleBot to a Page, Big G Bot will never see that page. This includes pages with your backlinks on them, like the all the links we built in the last two sections.

How Google Crawls and Indexes the Internet Googlebot has no real “map” of the internet. There is no giant listing of every page online. Google’s job is to create that listing. So what GoogleBot does is follow links from one page to another. Along the way, these pages are cataloged and added to the giant Google index if they are deemed important enough. Now keep in mind that there are a TON of links out there. Sitemaps, Directories, In-Context Links, Natural Linking, etc… Most major sites are indexed already. You don’t need to help index the CNN.com homepage. It’s got plenty of links to it, so GoogleBot has no problem finding it.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 136

But there are also boatloads of pages that have 0 links to them. In fact, GoogleBot has no idea that they exist.

I’m sure even CNN.com has pages that GoogleBot has never seen. The above forum profile is a good example of a page that Google simply hasn’t indexed. Unfortunately, some of the internet’s most unknown pages (like the one above) have your links on them!

Links you spent hard earned time and money creating become 100% worthless if Google never crawls and indexes them In one of Matt Cutt’s videos, he goes over ways to HIDE or NOT INDEX a page on your site. One of the ways he notes is to build an “obscure page”. Basically you build a page that is not linked to from the rest of your site and make sure other people don’t link to it. Unfortunately, Matt Cutt’s description of good hidden pages includes all the links we built in the first section. We built links on deep forum pages, with no links to them from the forum itself, and no outside links. And since we were building 2000 links per day, we didn’t even Ping these links. There is essentially no way for GoogleBot to find these links.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 137

Super Nerd SEO King

Ping It! Pinging notifies Google and other websites that a new page has been created. Pinging pages used to be all that was needed to get GoogleBot to visit that page. But like most working web strategies, Pinging was abused and spammed for a long time, making it far less effective today than it was in the past. Keep in mind that pinging simply notifies other services (like Google, Yahoo, etc.) that your page exists. It does not place backlinks to your page or somehow increase the page’s Google ranking. Don’t sit around all day pinging your pages hoping for some magic to happen.

Š 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 138

Super Nerd SEO King (Part 2)

But if your page has no links to it, and no other way for GoogleBot to find it, Pinging is certainly one way you can help GoogleBot to find that page. In fact, automatic pinging may be one reason Wordpress pages get found so quickly by the search engines. In this chapter I’ll be exposing a strategy that automatically Pings your Drip Feed Blasts, so you won’t have to do any manual labor. But if you ever need to manually ping some URLs, here’s a great tool to do so: Ping Device Ping Device can handle fairly large lists of links, usually somewhere around 500 links at a time. Again, it’s not necessary to use Ping Device if you follow the other recommendations in this chapter. But Ping Device is still a great free alternative for those links you have to run through manually.

When we’re talking about Backlink pages, we want to get these pages from Not Crawled to Crawled, then ideally to Indexed. It’s actually fairly easy to get links crawled quickly. Once GoogleBot is alerted, pages with your backlinks on them can be crawled in as little as 2 minutes! More recently, with the advent of advanced Web Spam (like Drip Feed Blasts), Google has been cracking down on the number of pages it allows to be indexed. In most cases, forum profiles won’t index without links pointing to them. Articles seem to get indexed slightly easier, but still require links to them in many cases.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 139

Getting pages CRAWLED is easy Getting pages INDEXED is difficult Now here’s the problem. No one knows yet if you get link credit for pages that are crawled but not indexed. Here’s the practical Breakdown:

Not Crawled – Most of your links start out like this. No link credit is given at this point, because GoogleBot doesn’t know that page exists. This is Bad. Very Bad.

Crawled – A fairly easy state to achieve. We don’t know yet if Google gives credit to backlinks on pages that are crawled, but not indexed. This is Better, but far from idea.

Indexed – Getting Backlink pages indexed is more and more difficult to do these days. Google definitely gives credit to backlinks on pages that are indexed. Indexed is the ideal state for our Backlink pages.

Cached – We don’t really care which pages Google Caches. The line between Indexing and Caching is blurred more and more every day, and most indexed pages are cached anyways. I haven’t seen any evidence that Google places any more weight on Cached pages than Indexed pages as far as Backlink credit goes. While there could be some subtle differences, I wouldn’t worry about achieving a Cached state with your Backlink pages, or even your money sites for that matter.

Getting your Links Crawled in 2 Minutes! First, I’d like to introduce you to the old way of getting links crawled. Please don’t do this manually, unless you enjoy wasting time.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Get a list of your links Ping all the links at PingDevice.com Make the Links into several RSS feeds Submit the RSS Feeds to several RSS Directories Ping the RSS Feeds every 12 hours © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 140

I’m not even going to pretend to know how to make a list of links into an RSS feed or even how to submit that feed to directories.

Personally this process sounds about as exciting as covering myself in honey and rolling around on an ant hill Luckily, there is a service that will do all this for you. Better yet, the service allows you to plug in your Drip Feed Blasts API key once and it will go through this process automatically every day! Without further adieu: Linklicious Linklicious is a paid service, but all you need is the basic version. As of this writing, it’s cheap enough to be a no-brainer. The basic version allows you to plug in some obscene number of links, like 10,000 links per day. Plus it gives you the ability to plug in a Drip Feed Blasts API key and it will automatically run your Blasts through the system every day.

On top of this automation, the system shows you the exact times GoogleBot visits the pages with your links on them. You know exactly when each RSS feed is Crawled.

Here’s the claimed crawl rate for their service:

Source: Linklicious.me Homepage

Linklicious helps notify Google that your Backlink pages exist This does not guarantee link power is passed to your site but it’s a good start Getting your Pages Indexed Like I mentioned earlier, crawling is easy. Indexing gets a bit more difficult. As link building becomes more automated, more and more links are artificially built each day. Today, to get your links indexed you pretty much need to have backlinks from an already crawled source pointing to your Backlink pages. Yea, you heard that right:

Backlinks to your Backlinks Or, as we like to say in the business, BL2BL! Here’s a quick post from Adam Feinberg (Backlinks Forum “finemoves”) to drive the point home: Indexing Backlinks - Does It Matter And What Approach is Best And Most Automated © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 142

Hi EveryoneI think I have read more posts lately on indexing backlinks than anything else in this forum. The end of 2009 and beginning of 2010 seemed like the ramp up of automated backlink spamming. The second half of 2010 everyone is trying to figure out how to index all this spam they are creating -- now that we are creating 10x as much as we were before. So here's my 2 cents and I welcome other opinions. I am not claiming to be the absolute authority and would appreciate feed back and pointer  First Item - Does Google Have To Index Your Backlinks To Improve In Serps? IMO definitely YES. I've never gotten any movement in the serps when my links were not in the Google index. I saw a long discussion chain about someone who indexed like 10k links and his site moved no where. I am pretty sure this issue is on-page related, or the links were really low PR, otherwise this is not making any sense. When google finds descent pr links and indexes them soon your site is moving up…. Backlinks Forum User “Quinnmodel”: WOW! thats a lot of stuff you do?? …Yes but its definitely worth it. I usually have no problem getting my new sites PR 4 or 5 in 1-2 months of work. Indexing and backlinking your backlinks is key. Full Thread Here: http://backlinksforum.com/backlinking-tools-software-backlinkboosting/3587-indexing-backlinks-does-matter-what-approach-best-most-automated.html I couldn’t have said it better myself. Keep in mind that Adam is #2 for “SEO Service” (Seo-Services.us) He knows what he’s talking about! After running a Backlink Indexing service (http://BacklinkIndexing.com) for over 3 months, I’ve learned a thing or two about getting links indexed.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 143

Measuring Link Indexing Rates The manual way of checking if a website is indexed in Google is to type in the “site:” search operator followed by the full website. Here’s an example search:

site:backlinkindexing.com/contact

Obviously, checking Indexing on 2000+ links at a time for indexing requires a better method. That’s where Scrapebox comes in.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 144

Scrapebox is the Swiss Army Knife of SEO tools. It makes blog comments, harvests search results, check’s PR, blends margaritas (I wish), and checks Google Indexing. Plus about 100 other features I don’t know how to use.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 145

Super Nerd SEO King

I don’t recommend using the blog comment blast feature of Scrapebox for a number of reasons. First, if you blast out to blogs with Akismet (most Wordpress Blogs), your site will permanently be marked as SPAM by Akismet’s algorithm. That means that when you go to make a hand written comment on a High PR website, you will be automatically deleted! Blog Comment Blasts to Auto-Approve Blogs is one option, as these blogs will usually not have Akismet installed. But make sure the list is up to date before blasting these comments at your money site. You run the risk of getting “Akismet’d” if any of the sites have added the Akismet plugin lately. I don’t get into any of the other uses of Scrapebox, but I can tell you it’s a powerful tool. If you know what you’re doing, you can scrape search results to find specific websites, blast 5000 auto-approve blogs at once, and do all sorts of crazy stuff. If you’re looking to master Scrapebox, I recommend the “ScrapeBox Domination” course by Pat Jackson: ScrapeBox Domination

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 146

Super Nerd SEO King (Part 2) If you’re serious about using Scrapebox to blast out comments, there is certainly a smarter way of doing things than producing more generic web spam. I won’t ruin the surprise, but the article I’m about to show you explains how to get tons of comment backlinks actually approved by blog owners without any manual work whatsoever. The idea is pure genius. If you get good at what this guy is showing, getting backlinks to your site could be the easiest thing you do all week! Commenting Intelligently with Scrapebox: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo-tools/210576-method-improvescrapebox-comment-approval.html

What we will use Scrapebox for is checking link indexing. Once you know how to use the software, you just put all your links into a text file, open that file with Scrapebox, and tell it to check Indexing Rates. Here’s a visual of Scrapebox in action:

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 147

Scrapebox simply takes your URL’s and runs Google searches on them to see if they show up in the index. Since Google temporarily blocks IP addresses making multiple queries, Scrapebox rotates through a list of Proxy servers to avoid getting blocked. You won’t need to sign up for Proxy service though, as there is a built in proxy scraper! There is a bit of a learning curve to figuring out the software, so I’ll just go ahead and give you the cheat code for making it work 

Step-by-Step Index Checking with Scrapebox 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Open Scrapebox Click Manage Proxies Click Harvest Proxies Check only the box for Internal Proxy Server #7 (uncheck all other sources) Click Start – Wait a few seconds © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 148

6. Click OK 7. Click Test Proxies – Wait several minutes 8. Click Clean Up, Click Remove Failed Proxies 9. Click Clean Up, Click Filter Out High Latency Proxies 10. Set the Slider to approximately 1500 ms, Click OK 11. Click Save, Click Transfer Good Proxies to Main List 12. Click Close 13. Click Delay, Set the Delay to 1s Now you are ready to add links to the system and check indexing. 14. Make sure you have a .txt file with all your link locations in it (one URL per line) 15. Click Import URL List 16. Click Import and Replace Current List, Find your link .txt file and Click Open 17. Click Check Indexed, Click Google Indexed – Wait several minutes When Scrapebox is done running your links, you will get a nice little indexing report popup.

The method I showed you with a 1 second delay between links ensures that you can run as many links through the system as you like without getting your proxy IPs blocked. A list of 2000 links will take you 33 minutes to check, so I recommend starting the check early and letting it run in the background, minimized to your system tray.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 149

Don’t lose it! Scrapebox minimizes to your system tray, so it’s out of your way while you work. Each day you will have to run the proxy check again and find new proxies. Some proxies will go bad from day to day. Personally, Scrapebox is one of my two favorite tools, the other one being SEO Spyglass. If you want to actually know how many of your links are being indexed, it’s essential that you get Scrapebox. Normally Scrapebox is $97, but I found a link to grab it at $57: http://www.scrapebox.com/cheapskate (This isn’t my affiliate link, it’s just a link Scrapebox is using for cheapskates  )

Options for Getting Links Indexed There are a few criteria I have for getting links indexed:

1. Automated – We don’t want to spend hours and hours making links just to get our links indexed. This would be counter-productive, and just plain boring.

2. Scalable – The system must be able to handle anywhere from 50 links a day up to 5000+ links per day. It doesn’t have to handle 5000+ links with one installation, but we must be able to repeat the process without hitting a ceiling.

3. Cheap – The system should be fairly cheap to setup and operate. We still need a budget, but it shouldn’t break the bank to operate.

4. Effective – Obviously the system must work properly. These criteria should be obvious, but the effectiveness is often missing with some of today’s link indexing methods. To fit these rules, you absolutely need some type of software that helps to get your links indexed. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 150

There is no possible way you could do any of this manually and still expect to get a decent number of your links indexed. Sure, you could do this manually and get 50 or 100 links indexed per week (maybe), but you’ll never be able to compete in a market big enough to make any real money.

You need to automate Backlink Indexing Automating the Link Indexing Process There a plenty of software options out there, but the one I would recommend over all others is Backlink Energizer. I’ve researched every piece of software on the market in great depth, and Backlink Energizer is the best option based on the above criteria. Basically, Backlink Energizer is an auto-blogging system that outputs content with links to your backlinks. Here’s how the process goes: Backlink Energizer is installed and setup on a blank Wordpress blog you own. This Wordpress blog will not be used for posting content. Instead, it will be used as a platform for hosting the PHP code contained within Backlink Energizer. The Wordpress platform makes it so you can simply install a Wordpress blog on your server then add the Backlink Energizer Plugin. You don’t need to know how to modify PHP code or anything complex like that. Then you plug in RSS Feed content and add the Web 2.0 sites in the Backlink Energizer plugin area. Next you set up a cron job to run the Backlink Energizer script automatically. Once everything is setup, you simply log into each Backlink Energizer blog any time you want to add links. You paste in the links (one URL per line) and they will run through at a specific rate. There are training videos in the Backlink Energizer member’s area, but this process still requires a steep learning curve at first. Once you get down to things, it gets easier to set up each cluster. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 151

I’ve been running a network of literally hundreds of Backlink Energizer clusters over the past few months, and would like to share some insight with you regarding this process:

1. 5-10 Energizer Blogs Per Link - You must run every one of your links through 5-10 Energizer Blogs to get decent results. Prepare to build a ton of Energizer Blogs if you go this route. Just 1 will not cut it! Expect to operate 10 Backlink Energizer Blogs for every 2000 links you want to index per month.

2. Output to Web 2.0 Sites - Use Web 2.0 sites for your auto-blogging. All other factors equal, Web 2.0 sites (Typepad, Blogger, LiveJournal, etc.) will get links indexed at the same rate as Self-Hosted Wordpress Sites. But you will have to pay to host Self-Hosted Wordpress Sites. Web 2.0 sites are free, and much quicker to create. Some Web 2.0 sites will cancel auto-blogging accounts immediately (Wordpress.com), so save yourself some time and only sign up with the following sites: Typepad, Blogger, LiveJournal, Multiply, Posterous. (Figuring out which of these sites were friendly towards auto-blogs and which weren’t took me 5+ hours and cost me over $40. See, this guide just paid for itself  )

3. Backlink your Auto-Blogs – If you want to get your links indexed, you absolutely must Backlink the crap out of your Web 2.0 Auto-Blog sites. I spent months not doing this and had atrocious indexing rates. Steve Aylor, the creator of Backlink Energizer, is constantly preaching this. You must Backlink your Web 2.0 sites. I recommend using a Scrapebox auto-approve comment blasts to accomplish this.

4. Upgrade Your Hosting – If you plan on having more than 5 Backlink Energizer Clusters, you need to get VPS or Dedicated Hosting. Basically, that means that you cannot run a link indexing network on shared hosting. Host Gator VPS is an excellent option, as you can quickly scale up your service as you add clusters. I’m paying $80+ per month for hosting, and expect to have to up this quickly in the near future.

5. Get an Account at SetCronJob – Another account you will need is a SetCronJob account. Having this account is highly recommended in the Backlink Energizer training videos, as it greatly simplifies Cron Job setup. It also allows you to change hosting accounts without spending 20 hours reprogramming Cron Jobs.

6. Outsource – You have to outsource both Web 2.0 creation and Backlink Energizer blog creation. There are not enough hours in the day to build a Link Indexing Network and © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 152

rank websites. You have to outsource things if you want to build your own Link Indexing Network.

Just like operating a High-PR Network, operating a Link Indexing Network takes a lot of time and money. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend that anyone start their own Link Indexing Network unless they are prepared to learn the system fully and take some time to get things running right. Even then, be prepared to spend 1-2 months figuring out how to systemize everything and build out the entire network. Once you do figure out the system, the sky is the limit, and the only monthly fee you deal with is hosting. Backlink Energizer Official Site: Backlink Energizer Discounted WSO Price Now, I truly understand that most people won’t have 1-2 months to build out a network. I would also argue that building an indexing network is a distraction from your core competency of ranking sites in Google. Because of this, here are some options for outsourcing the work so you can move on to other SEO activities:

Link Indexing Services

Backlink Indexing **Shameless Plug Alert** Because getting links indexed is such a pain in the ass, I put together a Monthly Backlink Indexing service that does all the work for you. All you do is plug your links into a web form. I take care of the rest! Details about the Service here: http://BacklinkIndexing.com Here’s what my service does:   

Pings your links Places your links in RSS Feeds (20 links per feed) Pings these RSS Feeds over time © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 153

 

Runs each Link through 10 Backlink Energizer Clusters Other Secret Ninja Backlinking Stuff I won’t share here…

Each Backlink Energizer cluster has been pounded with backlinks, and has Googlebot crawling all over it. Your links go through at a rate of 72 links per day. So you can plug in 2000 links for the month and they will drip feed into the system gradually, helping your site to raise in the Google rankings on auto-pilot! Instead of taking 60-90 frustrating days and $500+ to set up an indexing network, you can sign up for the service and be done in 5 minutes. Each month all you have to do is paste your links into a web form, which takes about 1 minute total. That’s less than 20 minutes per year of total work to get serious ranking results. The service is a monthly service with no obligations, is very inexpensive per-link, and comes with a full money back guarantee. In the first month you get Before and After reports of your link indexing rates, so you can see exactly how much of a change the service is making in your Backlinking efforts (and subsequent Google rankings). If you don’t see a significant increase in indexing rates, just cancel your subscription from within PayPal and I’ll automatically refund your money. You don’t even have to email and ask for a refund! The real advantage of my service is that everything is managed for you and your links are drip fed through the system at a consistent rate. I’m constantly experimenting with ways to increase link indexing rates, and you can be sure that you’re receiving the most powerful Backlink indexing tactics used today. At the very least, I recommend reading the sales page for the education alone on this topic. Backlink Indexing Official Site **The Shameless Plug is Over  You can relax now…**

Index Bear Index Bear is the only other service I would recommend to serious SEO’s. They’re still working out some bugs, but they definitely get the job done. How they index links is a complete secret, but it does work. Advantages:   

Large Orders – Index Bear will Handle Large Orders for Very Cheap Varied Numbers of Links – They will index any number of links, making the service very flexible. Decent Indexing Rates – Their link indexing rates are better than most services on the market today. The Indexing rates are not amazing, but they definitely work well.

Disadvantages:  

Closed Randomly – Occasionally the service will be closed to new orders for a week or two. I think they get overwhelmed with orders sometimes. Time to Complete Orders Varies – Sometimes they get orders done in 3 days, sometimes it takes 2 weeks. It’s really up in the air when your order will be completed. They get orders done, and they are getting better. No Before and After Reports – You should check your own index rates when submitting to Index Bear. They’ll usually give you an after indexing rate, but I’ve never gotten a before rate. Links Indexed All at Once – Your links are run through the system and indexed in a day or two. I personally don’t believe that the Google algorithm takes “Link Inertia” into account in ranking your site, but if you’re paranoid you may want to avoid large orders all at once.

Index Bear is certainly one of the better options on the market for getting your links indexed. Even though they are a direct competitor, their service is good enough that I don’t hesitate to recommend it. Index Bear Official Site

Nuclear Link Indexer Nuclear Link Indexer is a brand new service from Kok Choon. The prices are extremely cheap per link, and he promises 50%+ indexing rates if you adhere to the following criteria: 1. Unique Content - The backlink page contains unique content, or at least spin content. 2. High PR Domain - Backlink from PR2 and above domain are much easier to index, and it gets faster when your backlinks from higher PR domain. 3. Maximum 3 Backlinks In A Page - The index rate will decrease when more backlinks are squeezed into a page. 4. Backlink with good backlinks - Almost guaranteed to be indexed instantly! I completely agree with these guidelines for getting more links indexed. Any of the services I mentioned will index at a higher rate if you follow these rules. Your time is worth money as well, so don’t spend all day filtering your links to get a slight increase in indexing rates. Just shove all the links into an indexing system and be done with it. I’ve purchased products from Kok Choon in the past, and he doesn’t disappoint. So even though I haven’t personally tested this service, I still recommend it for the cheap per-link cost and indexing guarantee. Unfortunately, like many other great link indexing networks, this service is often closed  Nuclear Link Indexer Official Site

Overview of Link Indexing Services There are probably 20 or 30 options on the market today with respect to getting your links indexed. I could mention each and every one, but most of them just don’t meet the criteria I laid out at the beginning of this chapter. Some of the services out there may be just as good as what I’ve mentioned, but I simply have not tried them. So feel free to try out new services and check out the results for yourself. Here’s a quick recap of Backlink Indexing Options: 1. Backlink Energizer Self-Hosted Network – Your best option if you’re looking to run a private network to index sites. Expect a learning curve and budget some time and attention to get started. 2. Backlink Indexing – My Managed Monthly Backlink Indexing Service. 3. Index Bear – One-Time Bulk Backlink Indexing. 4. Nuclear Link Indexer – Bulk Monthly Indexing by Kok Choon. At this point a lot of people will be thinking about skipping this step and just building more backlinks in the hope that they can overcome the indexing hurdle with sheer volume of links. This doesn’t work. The numbers simply don’t add up.

Without Indexing (BAD) A 0.5% index rate for Drip Feed Blasts is 20 links per 2000. 600 links per month.

Cost: Drip Feed Blasts: 2000 Links per day ($179) Link Indexing: None ($0) Total Cost ($179) / 600 Links = $0.30 per link

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 157

With Indexing (GOOD) A 50% index rate after one of the services above is 1000 links per 2000.

Cost: Drip Feed Blasts: 2000 Links per day ($179) Link Indexing: BacklinkIndexing.com ($37) Total Cost ($216) / 1000 Links = $0.21 per link

Without Indexing:

$0.30 per link

With Indexing:

$0.21 per link

These per-link numbers could be even cheaper if you count the possibility of a link indexing rate over 50%. Plus, the assumed cost of link indexing was with my service BacklinkIndexing.com, which is the higher cost managed service! The bottom line is that you need to be indexing your links. When you see the SERP inflating power of doing this, you’ll never go back to un-indexed links.

The Off-Page Optimization Elevator Pitch If you were ready to hang yourself after On-Page Optimization, this Off-Page stuff has probably confused you to the point of total exhaustion. Here’s a recap of the steps I told you to take in this chapter: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Yes, I understand that there are a lot of monthly fees listed above. Fortunately, this method ranks sites like crazy. Often times, you don’t even make it to Step 4 before your site is ranking #1 in Google! And keep in mind that repeating Step 4 enough times can rank your page for just about any keyword imaginable. It gets pricey, but if you pick the right battles and let your domain age a bit you’ll be ranking #1 virtually at will  Of course, the services above will change in the future. New services are constantly being released. If you remember the following principles, you can rank sites at your leisure:     

On-Page Optimization and Domain Age Tons of Cheap Backlinks Few High On-Page PR links 90%+ links crawled 40%+ links indexed

Doing this will rank your site.

Don’t get distracted with weird schemes and pitchy Backlinking services If your site isn’t ranking, just do more of the stuff from the above list “Few High On-Page PR Links” is the only step you can skip and (maybe) have your site rank #1. All other steps are 100% mandatory!

Additional Link Building Strategies Normally, if you pick a low enough competition keyword and setup the strategy mentioned in the Off-Page Optimization chapter, you should have no problem ranking for your target keyword.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 159

Sometimes you need to jumpstart rank movements with some new tactics. In this chapter, I’ll briefly mention some additional resources you can use when you’re stuck in a rut and need to get your website moving again. If you’re looking for a whole ton of Ninja Backlinking Tactics not mentioned here, I highly recommend Backlinks Hydra by Terry Kyle. There are enough tactics in that report to last you years! I’d also like to give full credit to Backlinks Hydra for the idea of Signature Surges and Reverse Engineering Links. These ideas have been around, but were largely underground before Hydra.

Signature Surge Basically you buy out someone’s signature file on several forums. The strategy is fairly cheap, and can get you several thousand links in a few short minutes. Downside: Most of the links will come from the same IP, meaning you won’t get that much link credit. Upside: If you target the right forums, signature surges can get you targeted human visitors. You know, real people with credit cards. You end up skipping the whole Google middleman and getting people to your site directly. One of the largest Signature Purchasing marketplaces is the Digital Point Forum: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=129

Reverse Engineering Links Reverse Engineering can be an extremely powerful way to take your competitors best links and get them for yourself! Basically, what you will be doing is using SEO Spyglass to figure out your competitors best inbound links. Better yet, skip your competitor and go straight for the best links on the internet. These links are usually held by serious SEO’s, and used for the most competitive of terms.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 160

In this case, I simply typed “SEO Services” into SEO Spyglass. You could try “Wedding Ring”, “Car Insurance”, or any high competition keyword you want. Now, you have to sort the list by PR and start looking through the highest PR links. The goal is to find a quick win, like a PR5 Do-Follow blog post to make an intelligent comment on. The list below has at least 20 PR5 links you could look through!

Of course, you could go it the old fashioned way and send out individual link requests to each page. But keep in mind that this method is extremely time consuming and requires other people to approve. Personally, if it takes more than 2 minutes to get the link I’d move on to the next website.

Don’t get caught up with one site You have the whole internet

Edu and Gov Links It’s debatable how much extra link power, if any, Edu and Gov links pass to your money site. The potential benefit of Edu and Gov links is a theoretical idea known as “Trust Rank”. The idea behind trust rank is that a select few websites are approved by human editors. These high-quality human reviewed websites get a certain level of “trust” placed on them. As these sites link outward to other sites, that trust is passed along. The trust diminishes with each new link. Now, keep in mind that Trust Rank is a theory. Google may or may not use it. Plus, if trust rank were used, the trust rank data would be completely secret. To continue with our explanation, let’s say hypothetically that Wikipedia is human reviewed and given a high level of trust rank. Sites that are linked to from Wikipedia are now given a lot of trust rank. Let’s say Wikipedia links to CNN.com. Now CNN.com has a boatload of trust rank, but less than Wikipedia. Now CNN.com links to JimsHardwarePalace.com, which would be given less trust rank than CNN.com. Basically the closer you are in the link chain to the site that is human reviewed; the more trust rank is passed to your website or webpage. On top of this “Trust Rank”, Edu and Gov domains can only be registered by legitimate educational or governmental institutions. It wouldn’t be too difficult to imagine that a link from a legitimate government (.gov) or educational (.edu) site would pass more weight than a link from a commercial site (.com/.net/.org). After all, Governments and Universities aren’t going to link out to spam-y car insurance pages. Now, Matt Cutts has openly stated that links from Edu and Gov sites are not given more weight than other links, but as we already know, Matt Cutts lies…

As of right now, the importance of Edu and Gov links is a mystery I have had no problems ranking sites without these links, and I highly recommend you procure these links only after completing all the steps in the Off-Page Optimization chapter. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 162

If you do decide to go after Edu and Gov links, treat them like any other link and buy them as cheaply as possible.

Article Marketing vs. Link Building There is an entire army of zombie marketers out there touting the merits of blind article marketing. These people write articles all day on topics like “weight loss” and “dog training”. Open Computer. Write 500 word Article. Submit to Ezine Articles. Link back to money site. Rinse and Repeat. All day long. If that sounds like fun to you, be my guest. Personally, I think it’d be more productive digging a big hole in your backyard, then filling it back in. At least that way you’d be getting some exercise. In today’s internet landscape, this blind article marketing model just doesn’t work. Now don’t get me wrong, article marketing can be very powerful. You get to leverage the Domain Age and authority of a big network like Ezine Articles, Go Articles, or US Free Ads to get your content ranked high in Google very quickly. However, these articles still requires heavy Backlinking to get ranked. David Raybould, copy writer for The Click Bank Code, Google Sniper, and many of the top grossing ClickBank products of all time, had this to say about article marketing in his report “Easy Article Cash”: Links! If you know anything at all about SEO, you'll know that the amount of backlinks a site has is one of the biggest factors that affects where it lands in the search engine result pages. To put in short terms, the more links, the higher the page appears in the search engine results. And guess what? The same is true of our article pages. Once articles are live in the article directories, pretty often we can rocket them straight to the top of the search engine result pages just by pointing a few relevant back links to them.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 163

It really is that simple – the articles are no different from any other webpages – if you can point links to them, you can improve their rankings. The Full “Easy Article Cash” Report is Here: http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-specialoffers-forum/209043-how-easily-rank-your-articles-1-google-460-happy-buyers-tons-proofrave-reviews.html

Downsides to Article Marketing 1. Content Control - You no longer control your content. The article directory decides if your resource box can have a link or if your article is too “salesy”. Once you submit the article it belongs to the network, and they can basically tell you to F*ck Off if they don’t like you.

2. Click Through Barriers - You place another barrier in front of a potential customer. Now instead of landing on your site and purchasing something, they have to go through an article and click your exact link before they can get to your page. This is one more level of “Click Through Rate” where you lose potential site visitors and ultimately potential customers.

3. Duplicate Content – Other sites are allowed to take your content from the article network and republish it on their website. They are supposed to keep your resource box as well as your article, but many people simply delete your resource box and add their own pitch. Also, if you take an article from your website and submit it to an article network, Google will most likely assume the high-authority article network is the original author, and de-rank your webpage with that article. Personally, I’d rather put content on my own site than an article network. But if you’re looking to try and rank without having a website, article marketing is certainly the way to go. Just be sure NEVER to put your website content on an article network. Write separate content for your website and for the article networks.

Three Top Article Networks Ezine Articles – By far the strictest network. Every article is read by human editors before it can be posted, so you really can’t be too pre-sell heavy. You cannot directly link from Ezine Articles to a sales page, so you will need a website to use this strategy. Also, Ezine has the one © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 164

of the highest levels of on page text ads, so don’t expect a click-through rate over 50% even with the best article in the world. The upside of this network is the advanced reporting of article views and search keywords used to find your article. That makes Ezine Articles a great testing platform.

Go Articles – Much more liberal that Ezine Articles. Last time I checked, you can put your site link anywhere in the article, plus the resource box. There are significantly less advertisements here, and top marketers like Craig Ballantyne (author of “Turbulence Training”) love this network.

US Free Ads – Anything goes on this network. You can add pictures, make a sale heavy page, and pretty much write to your heart’s content. To gain the ability to post HTML and pictures without Ads, you have to pay $10 per month for a Pro Membership. If you’re looking to avoid having a website, I’d say US Free Ads is the way to go. For the Super-Ninja version of using US Free Ads, check out Bum Marketing guy Travis Sago’ video here: Bum Marketing US Free Ads Training US Free Ads Official Site

Don’t Confuse Articles with Backlinks Now, the most important thing to mention about article marketing is that there are two types of article marketing:

Hand Written Articles and…

Spun Articles Hand Written articles, like the type you post on Ezine Articles, are not for backlinks. Sure, you will get a Backlink from each article, but a PR0 backlink for 20-30 minutes of work is definitely not worth your time. Plus, Google discounts multiple backlinks from the same IP address. So your 2nd and 3rd article on Ezine Articles will count less and less towards your website rankings. By your 10th article, links to your site are basically worthless.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 165

Super Nerd SEO King

I have yet to see an experiment quantifying the value of multiple links from the same IP. However, the general consensus is that

Multiple backlinks from the same IP address don’t count as high as multiple backlinks from different IP addresses There are a few reasons Google may have discounted multiple links from the same IP:

1. Cross Linking - Too many people cross-link their own sites to try and get higher Google rankings. Basically, they run 5 websites on the same server and decide to link between each site to get backlinks. Since most people only have one IP address, it’s easy for Google to spot this cross-linking and not count the links as highly.

2. Sitewide Links – In the past, you could get a sitewide sidebar link on a large site and immediately have 100-5000 more backlinks, rocketing your site to the top of Google overnight. This “Loophole” has since been filled. A sitewide link is still good for traffic and some decent link juice, but expect it to be counted as a handful of links at most. You won’t get credit for every page with a link on it.

3. IP Duplication is Rare – There are millions of IP addresses online today. Using a randomization model, the chances that you will get multiple links from the same IP are very rare. Getting links from the same IP would be like a person voting for the president 5 times. Google knows there are plenty of other voters out there, so it will devalue every links after the first one.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 166

Super Nerd SEO King (Part 2) Experienced SEO’s know that if they want to cross-link their sites, they have to host them on different IP addresses. In fact the consensus is that each site must be hosted on a different Class C IP address. Example: 153.147.984.34 The IP Address breaks down as follows: ClassA.ClassB.ClassC.ClassD Class A – 153 Class B – 147 Class C – 984 Class D – 34 Here is an example of 2 Different Class D IP Addresses: (Bold denotes a difference in numbers) 153.147.984.34 153.147.984.35 Only the Class D Octet is changed between these 2 IP addresses. This is a common breakdown on the same server. VPS (Virtual Private Servers) typically have several IP addresses in order like the two shown above.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 167

Super Nerd SEO King (Part 3) Here is an example of 2 Different Class C IP Addresses: (Bold denotes a difference in numbers) 153.147.984.34 153.147.184.42 In this case, the Class C Octet is changed between these 2 IP addresses. Having different C Class IP addresses is the gold standard for SEO Hosting. If you want to cross link sites, or run a High PR website network, these are the type of IP differences you should look for. I wouldn’t worry about multiple links from the same IP address decreasing your site rankings, as this happens “naturally” all the time. If you get 10, 20, or even 5000 links from the same site, it’s probably not going to hurt your Google rankings. It just won’t help your rankings that much. Remember that 50th article you just posted on Ezine Articles? Sorry bud! That Backlink is probably not gonna help you much. You would have done better to spread your links out over multiple sites.

Hand written article networks are meant to be used as a platform to rank high in the search engines and get read by real people. Hand Written articles are NOT meant for backlinks. On the other hand, Spun Articles are meant for backlinks.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 168

One Article, 100 Backlinks: Spun Articles Explained For this section, I’ll turn the mic over to Eric Conklin, fellow SEO and Article Marketing expert. Listen closely, he’s been doing this a while. At one point, he launched a WSO writing spun articles. Within a week he had to shut down the thread from too much business! Enter Eric: With regards to spinning and submitting good articles, variety of networks and diversity of sites is a big piece of the puzzle. The remainder of it can be solved by creating relevant information and backlinking your money site contextually using well spun content. It does you a lot of good to spin the content so that it is informative and coherent. Spinning content so that it is just random and switches out individual words at a time will not make you any kind of real results. A good spun article should be spun by phrase or by idea, not by word. Spinning by word makes it much more likely the words together will not make sense because you cannot account for every possible combination of many different words strung together. At some point, it will start sounding funny and illogical. This is not what you want as it will likely get you a lower acceptance rate. Instead, spin articles like the one shown below: {Trading penny stocks is a difficult enough task to perform when doing it the right way|Penny stock trading offers enough complications as is|To trade penny stocks means enough pitfalls just by itself}, but if {you're making serious mistakes|you make any of these common errors|you are taking these false steps in your journey}, {you could be in big trouble|it could mean disaster|there's a decent chance you won't make it}! {90 percent of traders fail in their first six months|Most traders fail before ever seeing any real profits|The majority of traders don't achieve real success in the markets}. So {what is the real reason why people fail to make serious money in penny stocks|why is it that so many people are not making the money they want in penny stocks|what causes so many traders to burn out and fail time and time again}? {These 3 pitfalls are the most common errors I see people doing and will make your life a lot easier|Here are the 3 errors I see the most people making and suffering from|I can think of 3 top things never to do when it comes to trading micro caps}.

Š 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 169

Notice how the syntax of each sentence is kept the same, just the phrases and ideas are switched out. By doing this, I help guarantee that each version of the article which is produced makes sense and will get accepted at the article directories and blogs it is submitted to. This is ideal, especially if you are trying to get the most out of your time and effort. It also helps increase indexation rate of the links in your article. If your content is unique and relevant, Google is much more likely to add it to the index than if it were not unique or very poorly spun. Grammatical errors and duplicate content don’t do well for a search engine to index, so make sure it comes out looking something like the spun paragraph illustrated above with 3 possible versions of each phrase or idea within the paragraph. A good article like this spun well and submitted will likely generate you a few hundred backlinks over time. These backlinks will take a while to appear in services like SEO Spyglass or Yahoo Site Explorer for two reasons: 1. The articles have to get accepted and most of these directories and blogs do so manually 2. The sites are often obscure so it can take a while for Google and other search engines to find and index them Unfortunately, there is no way to increase your indexation rate using spun article submissions. The reason is because these submissions are at the mercy of the website owner to whom you submit to. A service like Backlink Energizer only works if you know where your links exist. In this case, the only way to find them is to see that they’ve already been indexed. Fortunately, the indexation rate once accepted and crawled is fairly high. It may take a few weeks after hitting the submit button to actually see these articles come up in SEO Spyglass, but I can assure you the organic indexation is quite high, likely as high as 30 or 40 percent with zero link boosting due to the abundance of unique content tied to each link and the great visibility of blogs and article directories to the search engines. Writing a well spun article should take you somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 minutes to an hour to complete. I look at spun articles as SEO projects rather than articles. This helps alleviate some of the stress and redundancy of doing it by giving myself more of a feeling of accomplishment after having written these. I have seen myself at number one after having finished around 15 or 20 of these for a competitive keyword, so don’t fluff at the power of spun article submissions. Sites like Unique Article Wizard and SEO Linkvine offer you a lot of power to rank sites if you have the patience to spin and submit content at least once every other day. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 170

It is also a very organic approach to SEO. Since the articles all retain a high level of uniqueness, this appears like a great increase in popularity to the search engines and a massive amount of ethical site promotion, even though a good portion of it is automated. To get this result without a service like Unique Article Wizard would probably take several writers and virtual assistants. As far as which networks to join, the following two are my favorite: Unique Article Wizard ($67/month) This network is by far the best because they have the most advanced spinning software, the largest network of sites and great customer service and support. The full videos walk you all the way through your first article submission and get you tons of tips. In addition, they don’t require the backlinks to be contextual. You can use resource boxes, which means you can get links from any site you want, allowing you to massively boost your IP spread via submitting irrelevant articles in addition to relevant ones. Sign up for Unique Article Wizard here SEO Linkvine ($67/month) Another awesome network, this one is almost as good as Unique Article Wizard. They have about as many sites as UAW but with a few costly drawbacks. For example, you cannot control the drip feed rate of your articles. So if you need a lot of links very quickly, you can only work with however many links the network is willing to give you. Their spinner is easier to use than Unique Article Wizard, but it is also more watered down and has fewer features. You cannot alternate paragraphs like in UAW nor can you create resource boxes. This limits you to contextually relevant backlinks which will limit the IP spread you can potentially get from irrelevant articles being submitted into the network with a resource box backlink. Still an amazing network for the price. Sign up for both if you plan on doing lots of submissions and need a larger IP spread to rank for highly competitive keywords. Sign up for SEO Linkvine here For those interested, I also have my own SEO course which shows more of the intimate details of article submissions as well as some great tips for other areas of SEO such as pumper blogs and link exchange networks.

Additional Leads The information in this guide is meant to give you the principles to succeed. Over time, the services mentioned here will change, close their doors, or be replaced by even better ones. Tactics will vary. Google will adapt. But the principles this guide are meant to foster a mindset that will carry you through any SEO future you can imagine. You will need to keep up with things. The reason I can cram so much information in this guide is not that I’ve been doing all of it myself. One of the reasons all this information is included is that I listen to people smarter than myself, and listen to people who specialize in the SEO craft. Rather than listing every possible product on the market today, I’d like to give you a select few resources that will cover you into the future: 1. BacklinksForum.com – If you’ve been spending all your time on the Warrior Forum, I seriously recommend you take a one week break and read everything you can on the Backlinks Forum. There is no community more cutting edge than this one, and members you meet on the Backlinks Forum are world class SEOs. 2. Warrior Forum WSO Section – The Warrior Forum is great if you want complete information overload and a nervous breakdown. Plus, it’s filled with people who have no idea what they’re talking about, but would love to share their opinion with you anyways. I recommend you go straight to the WSO section and only look at Warrior Special Offers regarding SEO and Organic Traffic. Don’t get distracted by “$10,000 by the

End of the Day” products. Keep on your path of SEO, and don’t get distracted by the next shiny object. 3. Backlinks Hydra – Terry Kyle’s 200+ Page guide to everything Backlinking. Hydra is pretty much a necessity if you’re really getting into SEO.

Myths

Myth #1 – Related Sites Myth The related sites myth states that you must get backlinks from sites with content that is related to the content on your site. So if you have a Dog Training site, you could only get links from other Dog Training sites. This couldn’t be further from the truth. If you’ve been reading carefully, you know by now that

Google has no idea if your site is related to any other site online Google really can’t tell the difference between your website and the next 10 sites Googlebot will crawl. For a perfect example, let’s look at Facebook. Facebook is a PR 10 website, and gets an INSANE amount of links.

Does Facebook get penalized because inbound links are somehow “unrelated” to the “theme” of Facebook? Heck no. Facebook doesn’t even have a theme. News sites are the same way. There are all sorts of topics posted on news sites, and they attract links from all over the place.

News sites rank high in Google all the time!

No one really knows where the myth of related sites started, but it’s paraded around forums constantly. Every experienced SEO I’ve talked to ranks sites with links from all over the internet, from all sorts of unrelated places. Focus on getting links, and forget where they are coming from.

Myth #2 – Tiered Linking and the “Power Pyramid” Tiered linking has arguably evolved from “Myth” to “Worst Practice” status. The strategy of Tiered Linking is used all the time to sell complex Backlinking packages that don’t really affect site rankings nearly as much as they could. Here’s a typical layout:

The Tier 1 Links point at your money site, while thousands and thousands of Tier 2 Links point at the Tier 1 Links. Then thousands more links point to the Tier 2 links. Sometimes this goes up to 5 or 6 tiers! The idea behind this strategy is to funnel “Link Juice” to your money site and at the same time avoiding building too many links at once. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 174

Tiered linking was probably born when people began to see their sites Google dance. Rather than waiting out the Google dance and letting their site rank higher, they freaked out and vowed never again to point so many links directly at their money site. The problem with this strategy is that

“Link Juice” actually decreases as it makes its ways through the tiers Most people probably wouldn’t argue with the following statement:

100 PR0 links are more powerful than 1 PR0 link. Yet all the time I see people point 100 links to a Web 2.0 site, then link that Web 2.0 to their money site! With 100 links, the Web 2.0 site is still a PR0. So you’re getting 1 PR0 link (from the Web 2.0) site rather than 100 PR0 links. Then you get the argument:

But what if my Web 2.0 sites gain Pagerank? Ok, so a few of your Web 2.0 sites gained Pagerank.

If you passed all those links directly to your money site, your money site would have Pagerank! Besides, if you followed the instructions in this guide you would already have high PR pages pointing at your money site.

You won’t need to build some crappy Web 2.0 network of pseudo-maybe-hopefully High PR pages I’ll give you another scenario. Let’s say two backlinkers start money sites and each goes out to get 2000 links.

Site #1 – 2000 Indexed links to their money site Site #2 – 10 Indexed Tier 1 Links to their money site, 1990 Indexed Tier 2 Links to the Tier 1 Links © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 175

When Google looks at each site, they notice that Site #1 has 2000 links and Site #2 has 10 links.

Site #1 (2000 links) will outrank Site #2 (10 links) by a long shot! There is one exception to the Tiered Linking mentioned here, and that’s Backlink Indexing. To get your links indexed, you will often need high visibility backlinks pointing at your backlink pages. The point of indexing your backlinks is to get them found in Google. Don’t expect any “Link Juice” to be passed because of this link indexing.

Point every link directly at your money site Then get these links crawled and indexed

Myth #3 – Footprinting The footprinting myth is more paranoia than anything else. People often wonder if Googlebot will somehow notice a strange pattern between their links and decide to penalize their site for it. First, Google does not have the processing power to determine patterns amongst several Billion pages. Even if they did, how many naturally occurring patterns do you think they would find? Oops, your friend Tom linked to your Facebook page twice from two domains with the same IP. Google Penalty! Now Facebook can’t rank for anything! It’s absurd.

Take that tin foil hat off your head Google can’t read your thoughts Yes, Google has tremendous amounts of user data. No, they don’t human review organic listings.

© 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 176

And No, Google doesn’t have the processing power or time to determine your off the wall Backlinking patterns and penalize your site! This isn’t Adwords where someone is constantly looking over your shoulder. Feel free to relax a bit and have fun. Of the Billions of pages online, Google is not spying on yours. They have better things to do, like sit in massage chairs looking at aquariums all day.

Myth #4 – Overestimating other Marketers I mention this myth because it was a huge mindset shift for me personally. I’ll bet you’ve never faced it, but it’s a huge barrier to you as well. This is important, so listen carefully:

Most people don’t know any of the information I just shared with you! © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 177

99% of the General Population doesn’t know what a Backlink is… Heck, at least 50% of marketers don’t know what a Backlink is…

Imagine that, an army of people building sites with 0 backlinks! And those who are building backlinks are afraid of powerful tools like Drip Feed Blasts! They are sitting around manually building links all day… Then, of those smart enough to use Drip Feed Blasts and similar services, only 20% of those people know they have to crawl and index their links to make them count! Of those people, maybe 50% are taking action at any given time…

Your competition is not 100% of marketers It’s more like 0.5% of marketers And marketers are only battling in select keywords

This concept is important. When you realize it, you finally understand that the whole internet is open to you…

99% of Google Searches are EASILY Yours for the Taking!

Even considering the elite group of marketers, you understand how to beat them. You understand how to systemize your Google rankings. You’ve calculated ahead of time exactly how much you’re willing to spend on a keyword, and you’re willing to give up and move on if that keyword will require too much money. Who you’re really in competition with is established websites. © 2011 Apercu Publishing Page 178

Websites that have been accidentally building links for 7 or 8 years, and have massive PR. However, you understand the power of laser targeted anchor text and serious focus.

Even Established Websites Have No Chance!

Trust me; you will kick butt. Get out there and kill it.

You can have those #1 Rankings

The Only Thing Holding You Back is You

Now use what you’ve learned and get the money that’s rightfully yours 

Keep Kicking Google’s Butt,

Mike Burngasser
