Seductive swirls A few simple twists with your pliers will transform wire into sexy earrings. Cut glass or gemstone dangles swing saucily below the earrings’ graceful curves, flashing a spark of color. – Wendy Witchner

earrings • 1. Cut a 31⁄2-in. (9cm) piece of wire. File the ends. With roundnose pliers, make a small loop at each end of the wire. The loops should curve toward each other.
earring wires • Cut a 11⁄2-in. (3.8cm) piece of wire. At one end, make a plain loop (Basic Techniques, p. 110). Bend the wire 1⁄8 in. (3mm) above the loop. Using your fingers and chainnose pliers, curve the wire into a question-mark shape. Hammer each side. Trim the excess wire and file the end. Repeat to make a second earring wire. 40

3. Repeat step 2 on the other end of the wire. To make the top loop, twist a loop in the wire just off-center. The spirals should be at different heights, both facing inward. If desired, hammer the shape several times on each side.
4. For the dangle, cut a 11⁄4-in. (3.2cm) piece of wire. File both ends. With your roundnose pliers, make a small plain loop (Basic Techniques) at one end. String a round bead on the wire and make a large plain loop at the other end.
5. If using a Wrap-Tite and stone, set the stone in the Wrap-Tite. Open the small loop on the dangle. String the set stone or channel on the small loop and close the loop. Open the dangle’s large loop and attach it to the shape’s top loop. Close the loop.
6. Open the loop on an earring wire and attach it to the shape’s top loop. Close the loop. Make a second earring the mirror image of the first. ✤ Contact Wendy in care of BeadStyle.

1. Determine the finished length of your bracelet, double that measurement, and add 7 in. (.18m). Cut a piece of beading wire to that length and center half the clasp on it.
3. String a drop on one strand of wire. Pass the remaining strand through the drop in the opposite direction. Tighten the wires, sliding the fifth drop toward the first four, making sure it remains in an upright position.
2. String two drops on each side of the clasp. 58

Do Drops
Crisscross drops into a quick and supple bracelet • by Beth Ruth
I’ve always loved teardrop-shaped beads, and felt it was time to showcase them in a project of their own. My decision was to design a watchband but traditional stringing produced a limp and narrow band. A crossweave technique uses more beads, therefore making a more substantial band. Once I refined the process – and realized how quickly the band came together – I opted to make a bracelet. It’s so easy, beginners can complete it within an hour.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until your bracelet is 1⁄2 in. (13mm) shorter than the desired length.
5. String a spacer, a crimp bead, a spacer, and the remaining half of the clasp over both strands. Go back through these beads, tighten the wires, and crimp the crimp bead (Basic Techniques, p. 110). Trim the excess wire. ✤
• 160-180 4 x 6mm teardropshaped beads • 2 3mm round spacer beads • crimp bead • toggle clasp • flexible beading wire, .014 or .015 • chainnose or crimping pliers • diagonal wire cutters

Woodenanimal necklaces Wood rondelles accent an ojime bead by Irina Miech These carved ojime beads are probably the most stylish things you’ll find anywhere in the woods. To make the nocturnal animals feel at home, I used beads and findings in twilight colors, but you can mix and match until you find a look that fits your mood and style.

Tips
pendant • On a head pin, string a 4 mm rondelle and an ojime bead. Make a plain loop (Basics).
BEADSTYLE | ONLINE PROJECT
bead units • Cut a 1-in. (2.5 cm) piece of wire. Make a plain loop (Basics). String a 6 mm rondelle. Make a plain loop. Make six to 10 6 mm rondelle units. Make 19 to 21 4–5 mm rondelle units.
extender charm • On a head pin, string a 6 mm rondelle. Make a plain loop (Basics).
• Because I didn’t have 6 mm link copper chain handy to accommodate the hook clasp, I made an extender by linking jump rings. It’s not the most economical option — but a good trick in a pinch. • In a hurry? Skip the plain loops. Substitute a 31 ⁄2 -in. (8.9 cm) piece of beaded chain for the small rondelle units.

Attach a 2-in. (5 cm) piece of 6–7 mm link chain and the extender charm. ✳
7 Use a 4 mm bead unit to attach the clasp.
1 necklace • Open the loop (Basics) of a 4 mm bead unit. Attach a second unit. Close the loop. Connect 4 mm bead units to make a 4-in. (10 cm) beaded chain.

2 Connect three oval links with two 4 mm bead units.
5 Connect 6 mm bead units to make a 21 ⁄2 -in. (6.4 cm) beaded chain.

Rugged finery
The proportional features of an oval face give you fashion carte blanche. Consider a necklace with stones that celebrate this versatility. Juxtapose the rugged cut with the soft sheen of mother-of-pearl and Peruvian opals. It’s the perfect fusion of sophistication and primal elements.
necklace • Determine the finished length of the short strand of your necklace. (My short strand is 17 in./43cm.) Add 6 in. (15cm) and cut a piece of beading wire to that length. Cut another piece 3 in. (7.6cm) longer. On the long wire, center a nugget. On each end, string a bicone crystal, a cylinder bead, a bicone, and a nugget.

On each end of the long wire, string: bicone, three chips, bicone, five cylinders, bicone.

On each end of the short wire, string a bicone, three cylinders, and a bicone.

On each side, over both wires, string three chips, a bicone, three cylinders, and a bicone. String chips until the strand is within 2 in. (5cm) of the desired length.

On the short wire, string nine chips. Center the beads on the wire.
On each end of the short wire, string seven chips and a bicone.
On each side, over both wires, string a spacer, a crimp bead, a spacer, and half of the clasp. Go back through the beads just strung and tighten the wires. Check the fit, and add or remove beads from each end if necessary. Crimp the crimp beads (Basics, p. 90) and trim the excess wire. If desired, place a crimp cover over the crimp bead, and gently close it with chainnose pliers.

earrings • On a head pin, string a bicone crystal, a cylinder bead, and a bicone. Make a plain loop (Basics, p. 90) above the top bead. Make a total of three bead units.
2
Cut a 6-in. (15cm) piece of wire. Wrap the center of the wire around the largest part of your roundnose pliers. Bring both ends over the top jaw, forming an X above the pliers.
On each side of the center loop, approximately ¼ in. (6mm) from the X, make a loop with the middle part of your roundnose pliers.
Bring the wires together above the center loop. Wrap one end around the other as if wrapping above a top-drilled bead (Basics).
String three bicones on the wire. Make the first half of a wrapped loop (Basics) above the top bead. Attach the loop of an earring post and complete the wraps.

Make a fun bauble with bright Lucite and crystals
Bubbly
bracelet by Naomi Fujimoto
After our Midwestern winter and historic snowfalls, I can’t get enough of spring-colored Lucite. I used most of my stash in the May 2011 BeadStyle cover project, but I still had enough to eke out one more accessory. To keep the dangles front and center like a corsage, string them on ovalshaped memory wire. You’ll need to attach a clasp, but it’s a small price to pay to keep the beads from falling around to the inside of your wrist.

Trim the excess memory wire and make a loop. Open the loop (Basics) and attach a soldered jump ring.
Tips Cut slightly more than one complete coil of memory wire. It’s more difficult to make a loop with a stub of memory wire than it is to trim the excess later (after you’ve checked the fit).
I like the unobtrusive look of a petite lobster claw clasp — but a larger clasp would make the bracelet easier to put on.
