This bracelet works up quickly, and it is a great way to learn right-angle weave. It can display any color scheme — just choose two of your favorite crystal colors and pair them with metal accent beads.

stepbystep Bracelet band [1] On 4 yd. (3.7 m) of Fireline, pick up a repeating pattern of a 150 seed bead, a color A 4 mm bicone crystal, and a 150 four times, leaving an 18-in. (46 cm) tail. Sew through the first six beads again (figure 1). [2] Working in right-angle weave (Online Basics), pick up a 150, a 7 x 5 mm double-cone bead, two 150s, a color B 4 mm bicone crystal, two 150s, a 7 x 5 mm, and a 150, and sew through the last three beads your thread exited in the previous step and the first six beads picked up in this step (figure 2). [3] Pick up a repeating pattern of a 150, a B, and a 150 three times, and sew through the last three beads your thread exited in the previous step and all of the beads picked up in this step (figure 3).

FIGURE 5

[4] Pick up a repeating pattern of a 150, a B, and a 150 three times, and sew through the last three beads your thread exited in the previous step and the first three beads picked up in this step (figure 4, a–b). [5] Pick up a 150, a 7 x 5 mm, two 150s, an A, and a 150, and sew through the 150, 7 x 5 mm, and 150 in the previous row (b–c), the 150, B, and 150 from the previous step (c–d), all six beads just added (d–e), and the next 150, A, and 150 in the previous row (e–f). [6] Pick up a repeating pattern of a 150, an A, and a 150 twice, and sew through the next two 150–A–150 groups, and all six beads just picked up (f–g). [7] Repeat steps 4–6 19 times for a total of 21 rows, but alternate As and Bs to place them in their appropriate columns.

Toggle and loop [1] Pick up a repeating pattern of a 150, a B, and a 150 twice, and sew through the end 150, B, and 150 in the previous row and the first three beads picked up to make a three-sided stitch (figure 5, a–b). Work a normal four-sided stitch in the middle column (b–c), then work a three-sided stitch with As (c–d). [2] Sew through the beadwork to exit the top row of beads in the middle column (d–e), and work a four-sided stitch off of the previous stitch in the middle column (e–f). Sew through the beadwork to exit the top three beads (f–g). [3] Pick up 15 150s, and sew through the 150, 7 x 5 mm, and 150 in the previous row (figure 6, a–b), and the first eight 150s just added (b–c).

FIGURE 7

[4] Pick up seven 150s, a 7 x 5 mm, and seven 150s, and sew through the 150 your thread exited at the start of this step (c–d). Sew through the first seven 150s just added, the 7 x 5 mm, and the next 150 (d–e). [5] Pick up a 150, a B, and a 150, skip the last 150, and sew through the beads just added and the 150, 7 x 5 mm, and next 150 (e–f). Repeat on the other end with an A (f–g). Retrace the thread path a few times to reinforce the toggle. Sew through the beads connecting the toggle to the bracelet band a few times to reinforce the connection, and end the thread (Online Basics). [6] Thread a needle on the tail, and repeat steps 1 and 2 on the remaining end of the band.

[7] Pick up 25 150s, and sew through the 150, 7 x 5 mm, and 150 your thread just exited (figure 7). Adjust the number of beads to fit the toggle through the loop if needed. Retrace the thread path several times to reinforce the loop, and end the thread. w

DESIGNER’S NOTE: To make the three-sided stitches lie flat at the ends of the bracelet band, add an extra 150 on each side of each edge 4 mm bicone crystal.

Nancy Zellers has been beading for 15 years. She developed this bracelet as a way to teach right-angle weave to beginners, and she says using different colors helps to show the stitch’s pattern. Visit Nancy’s Web site, nzbeads.com, to see more of her work.
