L’Hotel Saint Pierre’s monumental limestone staircase leads guests directly to an expansive lounge and co-working space with various seating types that overlook the double height reception area. The bakery and coffee bar provide snacks and pastries for sale, and the area can easily transform into a space for private events, such as receptions or art openings. The entire hotel functions as a gallery space for a rotation of local and international artists. Featured artists currently include Jakob Gold and Marco Rea.

The quiet teen reading area is placed spatially diagonal to the louder playground area (complete with a tree slide, climbing wall, monkey bars, and grass-like carpet tiles) in order to provide maximum acoustical privacy. In addition, acoustical panels line the jungle gym area to absorb as much sound as possible. A vaulted glass “greenhouse” ceiling provides sunlight and stimulating views to the outside, and children are invited to climb up the stairs into the treehouse and peer out at their domain.

Shoppers are drawn up into the heavens via the elliptical glass staircase. The first floor ceiling recreates an aurora borealis effect, made possible by LED color-changing diodes hidden in a perimeter cove. In order to draw shoppers further into the space, the fitting rooms are placed on the second floor, and guests must pass through this area to reach the shoes, accessories, and meditation space. All of the display tables in this space easily slide into the fitting rooms during yoga and meditation classes. Flat panel LEDs shine through a punctured brass ceiling, creating a starry sky as you look up from your mat.

This traditional living room is an exploration of finding harmony between the old and the new. The room mixes the whimsical, curvilinear motifs of the French Rococo style with modern cubist elements such as Picasso’s famous painting, “Houses on a Hill”. The celebration of styles can be seen in the Louis XV duchess brisee and piano, chinoiserie commode, Rococo-era fireplace, and Chinese Chippendale bench. One of the most distinctive features of the space is the hand painted “Kiso Mountains” wallpaper by DeGournay that wraps around all four walls.
