TIGI® Global President, Tom Monaghan, has announced the appointment of Elisa Fischer as the new TIGI® General Manager for the Americas. As a dedicated advocate for hairdressers, as well as a proven innovator and leader in the professional salon industry, Fischer is taking on the perfect role to lead a passionate hairdresser-centric company. She supports TIGI®’s mission of being a company by hairdressers, for hairdressers, and is strongly positioned to move TIGI® forward to the next level. Most recently, Fischer spent almost 12 years with the L’Oreal Professional Products Division in several capacities including Vice President of Marketing for Matrix, where she was instrumental in regaining the trust and engagement of Matrix salons and hairdressers. She launched a major industry student initiative, “Spread the Love” and brought to life the tagline, “Imagine All You Can Be” throughout the US market. In her last role with L’Oreal, Elisa was Vice President of Sales for Redken and Pureology, leading one of the largest sales teams in the industry. She has shown outstanding passion for the business, forged strong relationships with hairdressers, key accounts and senior professionals, and has shown consistent growth in all of her roles. “Elisa has great credentials. In her previous roles she has demonstrated both creative and strategic vision with a broad understanding of the professional haircare market. When Adam Castro and Rafael V. Linda and Steve Perrette, owners of Public Image Ltd. Salon, opened their salon in 1989. As a Sassoon based stylist, Linda was drawn to the TIGI® method of cutting, and in 1990 started attending workshops in London, Dallas and NYC. In 2004, after visiting the TIGI® Academy in Dallas, she successfully completed a week long “Teacher Training” class. Since then she has conducted classes every week training her junior and senior stylists. The key to Public Image’s success over the years has been a simple one; they only hire assistants with little to no salon experience. Linda then teaches them the terminology and methodology of TIGI® cutting. This process takes about 1-1/2 years. When they look back on their decision to spend a week in Dallas they think, “Wow, what a great return on our investment.” Each year they close the salon and a guest artist from TIGI® conducts a 2 or 3 day workshop. For the better part of 25 years TIGI® has been a very important partner in their salon. Every client that leaves the salon takes a little TIGI® with them!

TIGI® turned the entire experience into a weekly TV show, that aired on BehindtheChair.com Monday nights for four weeks, August 11th- Sept 1. Episodes focused on: Crash Course on Cut & Color, Session Work, Presentation Skills, Model Selection and a Photo Shoot. Finally, they brought it all together when they traveled to Florida to take the stage for the very first time at Premiere Orlando in front of a huge audience! During the last episode, two of the team members were named the winners of Inspirational Youth. As part of the BTC program, viewers were asked to vote for their favorite artist and there was an amazing response as the contestants received over 22,000 votes! These votes demonstrate that the first US Inspirational Youth program was a huge success.
TIGI® was excited to announce in past articles that the renowned Inspirational Youth Program had made its debut in America! The week-long program, at Bed Head® Studio in London, proved to be a once in a lifetime chance for young stylists to be fully immersed in TIGI® culture, education, and hands-on training with Nick Irwin, Christel Lundqvist, Mike Esa, and of course, Anthony Mascolo. Inspirational Youth was created by Anthony Mascolo to identify new, raw hairdressing talent. The intensive program gave selected finalists the chance to be totally immersed in a mentorship course providing life-changing opportunities. Each year, the Inspirational Youth team undergoes intensive cutting, styling and color training; learning how to achieve amazing results using TIGI® products to style and finish hair. At the end of the boot camp, the team gained experience in session styling, participated in a photo shoot and most importantly, learned how to communicate to a live audience in preparation for the TIGI® Inspirational Youth Show, where they competed against each other for the Americas’ Grand Prize. The 2014 Grand Prize winners traveled to World Release in Berlin, Germany, in September, and will then compete at World Release Las Vegas in 2015! After recognizing how talented this year’s contestants are, TIGI® decided to partner with BehindTheChair.com to help raise the profile and awareness of both the Inspirational Youth program and the individual finalists.

Attendees included editors from outlets such as NYMag.com, TotalBeauty.com, HuffingtonPost.com, LuckyMag.com, JONES Magazine, PeopleStyleWatch.com and many more. Upon arrival, editors enjoyed ‘remixed’ classic hors d’ouevres (e.g. gourmet grilled cheeses) and cocktails (e.g. Spiked Arnold Palmer) and mingled with TIGI® Creative Team members including US Creative Director Thomas Osborn who later, alongside Karen Smith, Americas Marketing Director, presented the campaign and ‘remixed’ products to the group. I t is important to determine the percentage of non-pigmented hair on the head during the consultation process with your client. A client who has over 50% of non-pigmented hair round the temples and hairline might only have a sprinkling of non-pigmented hair elsewhere on the head. Each of these areas will require a different approach to formulating your colour.

Create a parting following the haircut and natural fall of the hair.
Begin by creating a triangular section through the fringe area, with the point finishing 2 inches back from the hairline.

Create a center profile parting, then take a radial parting from ear to ear. This creates an additional 4 sections. Secure all sections using TIGI®PRO Sectioning Clips.
Put on protective gloves. Take diagonal slices from the nape and apply Formula 1 from the new growth area through to the mid-lengths only. Continue until the section is complete.
Taking the next slice, apply Formula 1 Within the triangular fringe section, to the new growth and with a free-hand continue working with the same blending technique, apply Formula 3 to technique, applying Formula 1 to the new the mid-lengths and ends. Process the colour for 35 minutes, and then emulsify, rinse and remove using Bed Head® by TIGI® Urban Antidotes™ Re-Energize™ Shampoo and Conditioner. Tone the sections through the radial and fringe area, using horizontal slices, applying Formula 4. Once complete, process visually for up to 20 minutes, emulsify, rinse and remove.

NEW YORK Fashion Week 2014
The TIGI® US Session Team, led by Global Creative Director, Nick Irwin, recently wrapped up their best season yet of hair-spiration at New York Fashion Week. The team worked closely with high profile (and a few up-and-coming) designers, making their hair visions come to life for their Spring/Summer 2015 collections. The biggest trend that hit the runway this season? Braids! Bohemian or bold, structured or deconstructed, braids are hitting the streets in a big way next Spring! In particular, the ‘lived-in desert braid,’ created for Mara Hoffman’s collection, made a big splash in the fashion and beauty world. Lived-in desert braid

Mist clean, dry hair with Catwalk® Transforming Dry Shampoo to create matte texture. Separate hair into three sections and gather back section into a low, loose ponytail. Secure with an elastic. Braid each section using a 3-strand technique and secure ends with an elastic. Gently pull each braid to loosen, allowing front pieces to fall and frame the face. Starting on the right side, wrap the side braid around the center braid and secure with an elastic. Repeat on the left side. Gently loosen the finished braid and finish with Catwalk® Session Series™ Work It Hairspray.

ACADEMY AND LEARNING LAB COURSE DESCRIPTIONS TIGI® CLASSIC CUTTING
Classic Cutting is perhaps the most important of all courses as it provides the foundation of all haircutting techniques. Without a strong understanding of classic techniques, no hairdresser can progress to an advanced, artistic level. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on TIGI® methodology and terminology, focusing on the achievement of perfect balance and technique. The technical breakdown covers one length, graduation and layering, and is followed by hands-on workshops on TIGI® block heads.
TIGI® CLASSIC COLOUR
This 4 day course is ideal for a hairdresser who wants to gain a full understanding of a Classic Colour approach, encompassing the philosophy and techniques through to theory and practical workshop sessions.
CREATIVE CUTTING AND COLOUR
The TIGI® International Creative Team constantly evolve their work merging new ideas, research and techniques. This highly advanced cutting course provides innovative information that is both directional and functional based on the latest collections created by the team. Inspiration is key to being a successful colourist. This colour course explores the world of colour, taking inspiration from art, fashion and new-media creating new and exciting colour techniques through the application of fundamental principles of hair colour and a classic technical approach to develop skills that give exciting contemporary, creative results your clients will love. Excellent for colourists with knowledge of fundamental colour, and hairdressers who want to gain confidence with creative colouring techniques and colour mixtures taking inspiration from art, fashion and media.
Principle Styling
A 2 day styling course to improve all hairdressing techniques including classic long hair dressing and the creation of diverse textures to be used on hair of differing lengths. All demonstrations are executed on ‘live’ models. Workshops use TIGI® mannequin heads. This course gives you all the technical and creative inspiration to further your hairdressing techniques. It gives great skills for salon work as well as for photography and provides a foundation for more advanced artistic hairdressing. We recommend the Principle Styling course as a prerequisite for the Session Hair course.
