I hope you all had a fantastic holiday season and were able to spend time away from your business and with your friends and family. 2013 was a great year for TIGI®; we had fantastic innovation, such as the re-launch of some of TIGI®’s iconic products, like Catwalk® Oatmeal & Honey and Headshot™. We introduced new technologies like Fashionista®, our first violet, toning product line. In Bed Head®, we brought back the eye-catching Dumb Blonde™ and Colour Goddess™ packaging, with updated formulas and fragrances that you’re sure to enjoy. We also launched products like Oh Bee Hive!™ Dry Shampoo, Up Front Gel-Pomade, On the Rebound™ and Straighten Out™ in our Bed Head® range. We continued to build strength in TIGI® copyright©olour™, which is still the industry’s most creative, fully inter-mixable colour line – because the best shades are the ones you invent. More importantly, we really strived to bring back the energy and education that TIGI® has historically been known for. Hopefully many of you were able to join us in our signature TIGI® Academy in the vibrant SOHO area of New York City, or our Learning Lab in our Americas Headquarters outside of Dallas, Texas. We were so thrilled to see over 2000 of you at our World Release event in Dallas. For those of you that attended, we hope you enjoyed the experience and excitement that Anthony Mascolo and the TIGI® International Creative Team brought over from London. It was five years in the making, but I believe it was worth the wait. We hope to see more of you in 2015! 2014 will see even more innovation in all of our brands. I truly feel you’ll be amazed at the number of new products and brand updates you will see in the coming year, and we have exciting news in Education as well. Our TIGI® New York Academy team will be touring the United States for a few up close and personal events in 2014. We also have the very exciting news of TIGI® America’s first Inspirational Youth event that will allow some of our young, rising stars in the industry to train with the TIGI® International Creative Team in London, including Anthony Mascolo. You can read more about this fantastic event on the back cover. I want to welcome you back from the holidays and wish you the best in 2014. TIGI® is truly set for an inspiring year, and we hope to continue partnering with you to make your own business an even greater success for years to come.

TIGI® recently hosted its 6th annual TIGI® Talent Training near the TIGI® Corporate offices in Lewisville, TX. With over 80 attendees from 6 different countries, the 3 day training took place just 2 weeks after TIGI®’s highly acclaimed World Release. The training was led by TIGI®’s US Creative Director, Thomas Osborn, as well as the rest of the NY SoHo Academy and Learning Lab teams. Attendees participated in a full day training session on presentation skills as well as hands-on sessions in cut, colour and cosmetics and gained a deeper insight into TIGI®’s newly released Masterbrand and Academy Collections. One of the highlights of the week was an intimate morning session with TIGI®’s Global Creative Director, Nick Irwin, who presented the inspiration behind the most recent NYFW collaborations, as well as spreading a message of Global solidarity when it comes to Education. TIGI® Talent members were also treated to a fun night of camaraderie at the TIGI® Learning Lab, complete with taco truck and the 1st Annual Golden Tool Awards.

ACADEMY AND LEARNING LAB COURSE DESCRIPTIONS TIGI® CLASSIC CUTTING

Classic Cutting is perhaps the most important of all courses as it provides the foundation of all haircutting techniques. Without a strong understanding of classic techniques, no hairdresser can progress to an advanced, artistic level. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on TIGI® methodology and terminology, focusing on the achievement of perfect balance and technique. The technical breakdown covers one length, graduation and layering, and is followed by hands-on workshops on TIGI® block heads.

TIGI® CLASSIC COLOUR

This 4 day course is ideal for a hairdresser who wants to gain a full understanding of a Classic Colour approach, encompassing the philosophy and techniques through to theory and practical workshop sessions.

GRADUATION SKILLS

The purpose of this Graduation Skills course is to master one of the most difficult and technical concepts in haircutting: Graduation. Students start the course learning the methodology, terminology & the basic techniques used to simplify and understand Graduation. Video presentations are used to clarify and reinforce the information presented and expert technical breakdown of the concept of Graduation is followed by hands-on workshops on TIGI® mannequin heads.

CREATIVE CONSULTATION

This Creative Consultation course has a totally original and individual approach to growing your colour business through creative thinking and fashion knowledge. As a result you can work creatively while also providing opportunities to up-sell colour and build client loyalty. TIGI®’s unique concept of creatively blending hair analysis and identifying fashion tribes, provides descriptive language and explains in-depth complexion analysis to upgrade customer service and give clients a highly personal salon experience. Gain knowledge in how to best communicate with their clientele in a creative way that will lead to up-sell of colour, client loyalty and a chance to work creatively every day.

CREATIVE CUTTING AND COLOUR

The TIGI® International Creative Team constantly evolve their work merging new ideas, research and techniques. This highly advanced cutting course provides innovative information that is both directional and functional based on the latest collections created by the team. Inspiration is key to being a successful colourist. This colour course explores the world of colour, taking inspiration from art, fashion and new-media creating new and exciting colour techniques through the application of fundamental principles of hair colour and a classic technical approach to develop skills that give exciting contemporary, creative results your clients will love. Excellent for colourists with knowledge of fundamental colour, and hairdressers who want to gain confidence with creative colouring techniques and colour mixtures taking inspiration from art, fashion and media.

Principle Styling

A 2 day styling course to improve all hairdressing techniques including classic long hair dressing and the creation of diverse textures to be used on hair of differing lengths. All demonstrations are executed on ‘live’ models. Workshops use TIGI® mannequin heads. This course gives you all the technical and creative inspiration to further your hairdressing techniques. It gives great skills for salon work as well as for photography and provides a foundation for more advanced artistic hairdressing. We recommend the Principle Styling course as a prerequisite for the Session Hair course.

TEACHER Training Cutting

The course focuses on the TIGI® Education basic haircutting program, providing information to successfully implement education within your own salon through exceptional teaching, communication and people skills. As a participant in this course, students gain insight into the importance of a student/teacher perspective by role-playing. Students are monitored throughout the course evaluating skills, ability and personal growth. Preparation and a full understanding of TIGI® methodology, terminology and techniques is required. *All participants must have completed TIGI® Classic training.

TEACHER Training Colour

TRANSITION CUTTING AND COLOUR

The objective of this transitional course is to enable students to experience both cut and colour through live demonstration. The overall emphasis is to look at innovative ways to create timeless, salon-viable work. Focus is placed on perfecting cutting techniques through personalizing and texturizing with complimentary colouring techniques and colour placement. The aim of the course is to help students enhance skills, taking their work to a higher level. During the afternoon workshop students work on mannequin heads and have the option of focusing on cut or colour.

Fundamental Colour and Basic Highlighting

This course is the ideal introduction to TIGI® copyright©olour™ and all hair colour universally. Fundamental Colour is ideal for all hairdressers who wish to strengthen their understanding of colour, colour principles and fundamental skills involved in highlighting services. Looking at technical information, basic colour theory and the TIGI® copyright©olour™ product portfolio in depth, this course has been created to help hairdressers understand how to best use the range in order to fully express themselves creatively.

Children with Hair Loss Hosted their 9th Annual“Charity Ball” Fundraising Gala on Saturday, October 26th at Laurel Manor in Livonia, Michigan. The festive night featured a special fashion show to celebrate CWHL donors and recipient children. The evening was also filled with live entertainment, along with a silent auction to raise funds to assist even more children. Several TIGI® Ambassadors provided hair and makeup for the event. Every guest left with a goodie bag filled with TIGI® haircare products and makeup. The event helped provide over 30 children with customized human hair replacements and care kits. At the conclusion of the boot camp, contestants return home to refine their skills before traveling to Orlando, Florida May 29-June 2. The winner will be announced during the Americas’ Finale on the Main Stage at Premiere Orlando on June 2, 2014.
