Boaz started learning the piano at the age of 3 and violin in Year 1. Mr Wilkins who was then Head of Music in the Junior School played a huge part in his early music career as he encouraged Boaz to join a Ukulele Group which in turn kicked off his interest in string instruments.
Kit has been learning the violin since he was 3, later taking up the viola. His teacher for both instruments is Hannah Biss. Kit also plays the bassoon, and is an active member of many ensembles at The Hall School on all three instruments. As well as music making at The Hall, he has been studying at the Lauderdale Suzuki Group in Highgate for 10 years and is now one of their senior students. He will perform his final concert with the Lauderdale Group this summer at St Michael’s Church, Highgate.
Joseph started playing the piano when he was 6 and the violin at 8 years old. His first piano teacher was Lindsey Berwin who excelled in helping him to learn the basics of the instrument and entered him in many competitions including the EPTA competition, Horsforth festival and others.
When he joined the Middle School, Boaz started learning the drums with Mr Reynolds. Mr Reynolds gave Boaz great encouragement and developed his technique to the point where Boaz was able to play in more Hall music groups such as Concert Band and Percussion Group. In addition, he also led a string quartet for two years. This experience has help train Boaz to be a team player and developed his ability to perform in front of audiences. One absolute highlight at The Hall was the Jazz Night organised by Dr Steyn and Mr Brown staged at The Forge in Camden. It was a great experience to perform in a real live venue, and to play with all of the very talented teachers we have here at school.

The Hall School ‘Gala Concert 2016’
Kit has played in concerts in most of the major venues in London, including the Royal Festival Hall, the Cadogan Hall and earlier this year The Royal Albert Hall. He has performed and been a medallist at the North London Music Festival. Kit is keen to develop his musicianship and has taken part in several music courses, particularly the residential Arpeggione viola course in Suffolk. Kit is looking forward to continuing his musical development at City of London School.
Sometime later, Joseph returned to China in order to learn Chinese. His teachers there taught him a new ways of interpreting music, particularly in regard to the piano. This contributed greatly to his understanding of music. Currently, Joseph lives in London and studies with Danielle Salamon (piano) and Andy Mason (violin). Both are great teachers who demand a high level of music making. Joseph has performed in the North London and West London festivals and thanks to his teachers’ help, after an audition he was able to acquire a music scholarship from Westminster School.
