WELCOME TO MICHAELS AVE It’s Cup time and our key match is the Kate Sheppard Cup clash between Ellerslie AFC and our friends from Hamilton, the Wanderers who are looking to go one step further in the KS Cup after bowing out to Forrest Hill Milford in the quarters last year. That same team (FHM) was where our Cup journey ended last season as we went down 5-0 in a match that changed venue about 6 times. So today we welcome Steve Cox and his team to Michaels Ave - we played Hamilton in preseason at Porrit Stadium and it was a great game and we look forward to testing ourselves against Waikato’s best Women’s Club. Obviously the Cup is a great event and something we love testing ourselves in but our main priority is the league and we look forward to a tough game against Norwest in a weeks time. Thanks to all our supporters who brave wet weather and windy conditions to support the team, I know they all appreciate seeing you there! Cheers Tim Adams CHAIRMAN

FROM THE DUGOUT Welcome to the Kate Sheppard Cup Round 2 match between Ellerslie Women’s Conference and Hamilton Wanderers. Ellerslie and Hamilton met in a pre-season friendly earlier this year down in Porritt Stadium. Both teams created chances in that game, but it was Hamilton that was able to find the back of the net twice, winning 0-2. That friendly really tested the Ellerslie team and instilled a belief into the team that they could play competitively against the teams in the Premier Division, even though they are still currently in the Conference division. With Hamilton currently sitting third in the Premier Division we know this game will be incredibly difficult, but the team is prepared to physically and mentally to compete. From the coaching side we have worked on our movement in possession to try and great more goal scoring opportunities and we hope that comes to fruition on the day. We have some players unavailable due to injury or being away, but we won’t be using that as an excuse as we faith in the players who will be stepping up to fill those roles. The team will be no short of effort and workrate on the day and we hope to make the game entertaining for all that have travelled to watch it. Have fun, Ryan Shiffman

FROM THE DUGOUT
ELLERSLIE VS NORTHLAND FC After a draw and a loss in our last two games, you could feel the intensity from the players and coaches about how important this game against Northland was – less than maximum points would put a real dent in our promotion hopes and Northland are a team who have shown in their results that they are competitive.
It was pleasing then to see an increase in our ability to finish – it’s still not quite there but a very well taken goal from Shannon to settle our nerves and then a calmly dispatched penalty from Hollie was enough for the 3 points on the back of a excellent save from Erin. Our first challenge in this fixture was to replace Leigh (who is away) and Tove in the team, leaving only Hollie as a regular first team striker – time for the young girls to step up and we saw Helena and Lyric share the second striker spot throughout the game and they did a good job! We also drafted in Yena from the Reserves to provide some depth in that spot and her two cameo’s were exciting and her ability to link play was impressive.
Kez continued to deputise at left back in the absence of both Scarlett and Deb – Kez excels in any position due to her athleticism and her fitness and did the same again in this game. Ellerslie's opening half saw them score two goals while Erin and the defense kept a clean sheet our first goal came from Shannon, a very nice shot from the right hand side after a pinpoint cross
from Helena who in turn had been found in space with an excellent ball from Lyric - a great team move! Our second goal came from the spot and Hollie converted it after being brought down in the box a great piece of defensive play from Charli won the ball back deep in the Northland half and the ball popped over the Northland defenders and Hollie managed to get good body position to shield the ball away from the defenders and one of them couldn't resist the urge to tackle and mistimed it to give away the penalty. To put the icing on the cake in the first half Northland were denied a goal to get back into the contest when she managed to tip away a shot destined for the top corner. The second half fluctuated between a tense midfield battle and periods of possession for both teams and with no further goals it really was a half no-one won - however the Ponies were back in the winning circle thanks to a clinical first half when we bagged goals we may not have in previous games. So 7 games played and 2 points behind Hibiscus puts us in 2nd place and an exciting cup game this weekend against Hamilton Wanderers.
