PROUDLY PRESENTS

“THE AVE”

ELLERSLIE VS MANGERE

WELCOME TO MICHAELS AVE Welcome to this weekends NRFL opposition Mangere United for two fixtures, against our First Team (6pm) and our Reserves (3:45pm) This weekend on the turf at 7pm we have Shotaholics who take on Western Springs on Friday night, and then curtain raising for the Reserves on Saturday are Fake Madrid who host Clendon United with a 2pm kickoff – Sunday see’s our Women’s First Team try and continue their hot form with three wins on the bounce against near neighbours Onehunga Sports with a 1pm kickoff. That game was preceded by the juniors flagship team U17’s Metro as they also take on Onehunga Sports from 11am. A busy weekend at the turf then as we head into a day off next Saturday as we all flock to North Harbour Stadium to watch our NZ U20 lads (featuring Ellerslie grown Andre de Jong) take on Ukraine. Tickets are still available but are selling out very fast so jump on the ticket website (link to the left in the QR code) now and grab your tickets. If you can’t get to the game then the Ellerslie AFC Clubrooms will be open to watch the game. Back on the main game this weekend – the Mangere United team could feature a number of ex-Ellerslie players, with Ahmad Al-Jawad, Ernesto Lopez and Seth Armstrong all on the Centre Park sides team list. Chris Wallace his Ellerslie side were happy with the three points against Waiuku last time out but will be wary of the Mangere side as they suffered a shock loss to Manurewa, that and they have traditionally been tough to play against for us. The reserves clash takes on a little bit of extra importance as our NRFL Div 2 Reserves have drawn Mangere Reserves in the NRFL Reserves Knockout on the 1st of June, so this will be a chance for us to have a look at them as well as chance for Fred and Dave’s side continue their good form with another 3 points on the line. Speaking of the NRFL Div 2 Reserves – they head to Papakura this weekend in a key clash as they look to retain first spot on the table ahead of close rivals Papatoetoe AFC – Ben Pauley and his team will be keen to get back to winning ways and may have an ace up their sleeve - no more on that, let’s see what plays out. Please enjoy your fixtures and after the final whistle pop up to the clubrooms and enjoy a beer at a great price and some awesome food from Joyce’s kitchen at reasonable rates. LOTTO NRFL DIV 1 PREVIEW Round 10 Friday Night Football returns as round 10 kicks off - and there is action all weekend culminating in Tauranga hosting Manurewa who are fresh off their first win of the season - so how do you think the results will pan out? Metro FC vs Hibiscus Coast 7:30pm @ Phyllis Street With only one spot separating the two sides - this could be a close game. However on closer inspection of the league table it looks like Coast are either brilliant or below par while Metro have a more even record. So will this be a high scoring affair or will it be decided by just one goal? PREDICITION: Metro have bottle and at home at their preferred kick off time they will have too much fight and take the game 2-1 North Shore vs Forrest Hill Milford 12:30pm @ Allen Hill Stadium The most compelling thing about this game is the kick off time? Is it right? Is it a mistake? Will FHM default after an admin error by AFF? Have the rest of the league given up chasing Shore? Ok but honestly this game is a test for Shore who have not conceded a goal since their 8-2 win against MAP over a month ago, FHM have won 3 of their last 5 and are amongst the leaders when looking at goals scored and only behind Shore in goals against - could be a classic PREDICTION: I'm going for a draw, 1 Shore goal and 1 Mulligan free kick = stalemate. Mt Albert Ponsonby vs Takapuna 2:45pm @ Anderson Park Not a night game for some reason - maybe not wanting to clash with Metro's home game just meters down the road, however this is an important game for both clubs, MAP have all but recovered from their horror run (as predicted) but were victims last week against a Narra team that were due (also predicted at some point) - Taka on the other hand have a top goal scorer in their ranks and a good line-up on paper but are on struggle street and the Preston Road outfit do not look easy for them PREDICTION: MAP to bounce back from last week a 3-2 win, Taka to be up at the half! Waiuku AFC vs Ngaruawahia AFC 3pm @ Massey Park Narra make the short trip up the state highway to visit AFF's southern most NRFL team - and they will be keen for more points after their first win since the 2013 NRFL Div 1 season, Waiuku on the other hand will be gutted to press Ellerslie so hard last weekend and not get any reward, and they will be keen to make sure they stay on track with some points here. PREDICTION: Waiuku look good, I can't seem them passing up this opportunity, 3-1 to KU.

Ellerslie AFC vs Mangere United 6pm @ Michaels Ave 7 points separate the two teams at the beginning of the round, but Ellerslie vs Mangere has in recent times been close affairs - infact Mangere took two 1-0 wins last season which effectively was the difference between promotion or not for the Ellerslie team. It would be a mark of much improvement from the 2015 side if they can take points from the Centre Park side, but it will be tough. PREDICTION: Mangere score but they concede, Ellerslie can be similar - going for 3-2 to the home side. Tauranga City United AFC vs Manurewa AFC 2pm @ Links Ave The team with the most extensions in their name will be looking to extend the gap between them and FHM in 3rd place and are looking ok for promotion in their first time back in NRFL Div 1 for a while. Rewa are fresh off their first win for a while and they will want to build on that but this might be a step to far, but if they can grab points then maybe we can add Rovers at the end of Rewa (Roy of the Rovers). PREDICTION: despite liking the name Manurewa Rovers i think it's more likely to be Tauranga City United Association Football Club and Sports Club Incorporated Society and Community Group that get the points, 3-0

FIRST TEAM MATCH REPORT 16th May @ 6pm, Ellerslie First Team vs Waiuku First Team

The late game kicked off with a very high intensity and it quickly developed into the same style of game as the Reserves clash - some nice football with the occasional crash and bash period, typically in the middle of the park.

It didn't take long for us to settle and Josh Anthony found the going good down our left and it was his nice run after being feed by Mike Ritchie that lead to an excellent finish from Josh's square ball by Tim Richardson (his 4th goal in 3 games). Once the goal went in the game tempo didn't drop but a bit of quality did and there was some finishing in the first half that will need some work at training - pleasing again was our ability to create problems for an experienced Waiuku backline, who quite strangely had employed a dangerously high line. So heading into halftime we were reasonably happy with the performance, Conor had made a couple of good saves to keep us in the lead and we had some chances we needed to do better with but we looked alright. The second half was not pretty - there was a lot of battle out there as we fought to keep our lead and whilst we did have chances to seal the game with good opportunities falling to Alex Clark and Andrew Wallace we didn't need them as we defended well, and they threw a lot at us to be fair. My pivotal moment of the game was an inch perfect tackle from Jordan Oosterhof in our 6 yard box to deny Greg Crestenallo any chance of levelling the game. Last year Jordy wouldn't have been in the position to make this tackle but this year with his massive workrate and increased sense of responsibility he is a vital member of this side. Well done mate!

So final score was just the 1 goal to the good and our goalscorer took the points as the Mexico MOM. Ellerslie 1 (T.Richardson) Waiuku 0 MOM: Tim Richardson For those who are interested in what the coaches thought - we have the aftermatch speeches on video here: Jim Evans - Waiuku AFC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5jyBHh2aFg Chris Wallace - Ellerslie AFC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zP1kYY3NekQ

RESERVES MATCH REPORT 16th May @ 3:45pm, Ellerslie Reserves vs Waiuku Reserves

4th vs 8th at the time but the reserve league this year has been pretty up and down, it's always interesting to see teams where their reserves totally out perform their first team in comparison. It doesn't totally tell a story due to the changing nature of reserves sides but it's interesting to note nonetheless. Waiuku were a side who had battled away this season just like their First Team and we knew we were in for a tough one, just like last time out against MAP. The game itself wasn't too bad - some decent periods of play which were interrupted with what we call crash bash football, mainly in the middle of the park as Conrad again proved how much his size and strength compliment his ability with the ball. In truth this game was pretty close to what the First Team game delivered with just less moments of controversy (maybe). Eventually the deciding moment of the game came - in the 86th minute as Monju controlled the ball just inside the box with his back to goal and was felled by an eager Waiuku defender - The ref accordingly blew for the penalty and Alex who is on the road back from injury showed no signs whilst slamming the ball into the top right corner. That was enough to decide the game and another three points for the lads who can look forward to another home game next weekend then the first round in the Reserves Cup! Ellerslie 1 (A.Witteveen) Waiuku 0 MOM: TBC
