PROUDLY PRESENTS
“THE AVE”
ELLERSLIE VS TAKAPUNA
WELCOME TO MICHAELS AVE Welcome everyone to “The Ave” for the first me in 2015 – there has been a few changes since our last game of 2014 most notably in our coaching ranks as Warren Parke, Nick Russo and Paul Hooper have all moved on. Their contribu ons have been massive over the past handful of years, it’s appropriate to recognise those efforts while we look forward to a bright future under new leadership. Today we welcome Kevin Hagan and his Takapuna teams to Michaels Ave Reserve for the opening game for both sides in 2015 (the 50th Lo2o NRFL season). There are a number of familiar faces in the Yellow and Blue of Takapuna today, we wish them all the best and look forward to catching up over a pint in the clubrooms a7erwards. Today we also welcome the Lynn Avon Reserves as they start their campaign in the Lo2o NRFL Div 2 Reserves league – We are lucky enough to field a side in that league again a7er AFC Fury were unable to field a reserves side. Ben Pauley and his Ellerslie team are defending champions in the league and in the cup but will have a massive challenge on their hands repea ng this season – Good luck to them! The welcomes con nue as we formally welcome a host of new coaching staff and backroom staff as well as new players to the club – but we have a special welcome for today’s Ellerslie AFC 12th Man, Isaac Jacobs who entered and won our compe on to be a part of the First Team today. Welcome Isaac and we hope you have a great day! Special men ons from me also to our Senior Opera ng Commi2ee and Execu ve Commi2ee who without their support we would not be on the field today – in par cular from the Senior Club perspec ve I wish to thank the following people for their efforts in helping the senior club get ready for their season star ng the 11th and 12th of April. Nathan Russ (Game Development Officer and Commi2ee Member) Michael Clark (Referee Development Officer and Commi2ee Member) Ben Pauley and Glen Jones (Coaching Development Officers) And last but not least Mark Weipers (Club President) Good luck to everyone today and please join us for a cold drink up in the clubrooms a7er the game! Cheers Tim Adams Senior Club Chairman - ELLERSLIE AFC

NRFL DIV ONE PREVIEW Mt Albert Ponsonby vs Metro Anderson Park # 1 7pm Friday The Great North Road Derby open’s up the 50th season of the NRFL and there is not a more worthy candidate for an opening game. Both sides are in a bit of a rebuild phase - MAP have lost their talisman Colligan and Metro have had a change of coaching staff so predictions of results could be tough. PREDICTION: MAP to steal it by 1, but there will be more cards than goals - the new balcony will be a hit! North Shore vs Manurewa Allen Hill # 1 2:45pm Saturday A rare Saturday game for Shore as they take on Rewa - Shore have had a change in coach with NZ U17’s assistant Paul Temple picking up the job, and with it he has brought in a host of his NZU17’s players from across the country. I don’t know much about Manurewa, they have been quiet during pre-season and they may be a dark horse this season. PREDICTION: Shore to win by 2 after a shaky start Ngaruawhia vs Mangere Centennial Park # 1 2:45pm Saturday The Green Machine will be the favourites after dropping out of Premier League last year, but they will face a side who has recruited well and used their Centre Park neighbours Auckland United to help. Goal machine Ernesto Lopez is back but Mangere is a team where you can’t afford to watch just the one player. PREDICTION: Ngaruawahia too strong at home - but only just! Hibiscus Coast vs Tauranga Stanmore Bay Reserve # 1 2:45pm Saturday The longest trip in this years NRFL Div 1 - from the beach at the Mount to the beach on the Coast for one of this years promoted teams - little is known about Tauranga but they have always been tough at home, but may struggle away from Links Ave. Coast have lost a key player back to Birkenhead and will be wanting to kick on from last years narrow promotion miss PREDICTION: Tauranga to upset Coast for their only away points this season! Forrest Hill Milford vs Waiuku Becroft Park # 1 3:00pm Saturday The battle of two promoted teams - hard to know who out of the two will do best this season due to their contrasting styles - Waiuku with their aerial prowress and their home advantage will pick up a bunch of points, FHM with their ASB Premiership players will be one of the early favourites but they will have to mix it up with teams like Waiuku if they are to challenge for the title. PREDICTION: FHM too strong at home - picking a high scoring contest, 4-2 maybe?

NRFL TRANSFER NEWS Ellerslie AFC Outs: Adam Barkley, Dylan Tate (both Bay Olympic), Nathan Palmer, Alex Clark (both MAP), Connor Aldridge, Aaron Whitaker (both Onehunga Mangere), Denish Chand, Jared Gibbs, Darren Vernon (all Papatoetoe), Sean Dowling (Glenfield Rovers), Will Roper, Ollie Mullane, Rob Hall (all not playing), Warrick Hart (retired), Max Walker (Takapuna), Matt Lieshout, Rene Aafjes (both US College), Lachlan Woods-Davidson (Onehunga Sports), Seth Armstrong (Mangere Utd), Dylan de Jong, Myer Crane (both Western Springs), Will Hunt, Art Twigg (both Three Kings), In’s: Ben Shaw (Onehunga Mangere), Myron Manickum (Manurewa), Harrison Sage (Three Kings), Robby Robinson (MAP) A change in coaching staff is always going to lead to a bit of a change in players - in truth many of these transfers had very little to do with that coaching appointment directly but as things change people look for new challenges and new pastures - we wish all those leaving Michaels Ave Reserve this season all the best of luck! For those coming in (all ex Ellerslie AFC players) we welcome you back to “The Ave” and we look forward to seeing you in action this the 50th Lotto NRFL season. FIRST TEAM PRE-SEASON REPORT It’s been a season of change here at Ellerslie AFC off the field - but on the field we have been focused on taking what had been built and enhancing it. With a packed pre-season program including a weekend away we have worked through upwards of 100 players to select two squads of 18 which will our star ng point for our 2015 NRFL Div 1 campaign. Selec ons were tough on both players and the coaching staff as the compe on for places was high as was the ability level of the players. Welcome to our new backroom staff members, Fred Poelman (Reserves), Dave Wi2eveen (Reserves), Ben Fletcher (First Team & U19’s), Glen Jones (Thirds), Kris Pinnock (GK Coach), and Connor O’Driscoll (Physio). These new members of the backroom team will provide a great deal of experience and exper se and they complement our exis ng team which include: Grant Marshall (First Team), Ben Pauley (Thirds), Avantha Hewavitharana (Physio) and Tim Adams (Manager). Today’s opening game is a challenge for our side - all the pre-season form must now be put to one side as we focus on 3 points game by game to achieve our 2015 goals. Takapuna have by all reports recruited a bunch of talented youngsters from Birkenhead to complement their experienced core of players such as Tom Damon and Callum Brown - so they will provide us with a real test of our strength. I would like to take this chance to wish all our teams today good luck - Fred and Dave have a young team reserves team and Ben and Glen with our Thirds have re-built a7er losing the bulk of their 2014 tle winning side. Your successes will provide a great plaLorm for us to con nue and achieve our overall squad goals. Regards Chris Wallace First Team Coach/Senior Director of Football

LOTTO NRFL NEWS The Lotto NRFL celebrates its 50th anniversary this season and, to tie in with that historic milestone, it will have a new look and feel after the introduction of a logo and further branding for one of the country’s leading club-based competitions. The Northern Regional Football League (NRFL) has existed in some shape or form since 1965 and brings together clubs from the Northern Football, Auckland Football and WaiBOP Football federations. Auckland Football CEO Don Manase believes the 50th anniversary of the competition offers an ideal opportunity to both reflect on the past and look towards an exciting future. “With the Lotto NRFL celebrating 50 years this season, it is the perfect time to not only celebrate the history of the league but to create an identity for it as well,” he says. “Previously, there has been no visual branding associated with the NRFL and, due to the standing and reputation of the competition, it is very much fitting that it now has an identity of its own.” The branding is part of several new innovations being introduced as the NRFL celebrates its 50th season. Social media platforms dedicated solely to the competition have also been launched to coincide with the branding release while a weekly programme including preview information on all games will also be produced for the first time. Other exciting ventures are also in the pipeline and will be unveiled over the coming weeks as the action unfolds. The Lotto NRFL Facebook page can be found at www.facebook.com/ LottoNRFL while the Twitter handle is @LottoNRFL
