The installation would include numbering that would link back to the shops through the newly implemented posts. The pendulum on Jeanne d’Arc street is our horizontal interactive memorial acting as a movable stopper inciting pedestrians to interact with it, creating different dynamics between the public and private adjacent settings on site.

This installation came to life from and began to work through narrative – to stitch the stories gathered from the street into a singular moment. The installation ‘Between a Thought & Another’ was placed on a merchant street known as Jeanne D’Arc that is perpendicular to AUB and to Hamra Street. It was recently renovated by AUB. After mapping that street, the students noticed that its current refurbishment had left some of the inhabitants with a sense of disconnection. So they went on asking its shop owners to describe what the street meant to them.

BETWEEN A THOUGHT AND ANOTHER

The public and private dichotomy is represented on the given setback by the series of lamp posts that create the separating line between both settings, in addition to the setback being in itself a separation between the private (the building) and the public (the sidewalk). The steel memorial installation is hinged around the lamp post on which it would rotate, creating different circulation scenarios on the setback (the private) and the sidewalk (the public)
