about me 22
I grew up in Tauranga and attended Tauranga Boys College. After finding my passion for design and photography I decided after school to attend Massey University where I completed a Bachelor of Design. I am a passionate designer who enjoys working within a range of aspects in graphic design. From editorial and typographic work, through to brand and film, I have a young, fresh approach to my projects and explore new, creative possibilities. My interest in surf culture has not only been a big influence on my work, it has helped me experiment with my own style of design through out.

velvet 2016
Velvet is a surfboard grip company that is designed to engage surfers through its culture. Using visual communication, branding and product design, I have developed a unique grip pad company that is better suited to a more creative set of surfers. Being a creative surfer myself, I found it hard to find a back and front grip pad that was effective yet trendy at the same time. This inspired me to design and brand my own product.

The package design above was inspired by being sustainable but effective. I had never seen anything like this and the majority of surfboard grip packaging is the same so I thought keeping it related to this feet sock style packing could work. I designed and created this to stand out from the rest in the shop.

I rounded my project up through a magazine style publication. This included the story behind the company, the team riders, a look book, and various other stories and advertising material. View the full publication at - https://issuu.com/timbroadhurst8/docs/tim_broadhurst_mag_print_-_1

trending 2016
For this project we had to create a typograhic enterpetation of the death of something within a certain culture. I decided to do the death of hair trends with my main focus on the mullet. With this poster I wanted to have to ‘end’ in ‘trending’ stand out while also interpreting the mullet.

With this one I was just playing about with a different style of spliting up the word trend to empahsis the ‘end’.
13
The second part of this project was to create a publication surrounding your topic. I created a 42 page book on the death of different hair trends for males from 1950 through to today. I used various types of paper and typographic interpretation to portray the death of each cut.

outta here 2015
Outta Here Is a campaign to address the binge drinking problem throughout New Zealand by substituting it with a road trip. The idea of this is that instead of drinking with friends at a party, Outta Here offers an escape for the weekend. Whether this it is surf, ski, hiking or diving trip it can cater for anyone with or without a vehicle. Outta Here is different from any other road trip idea because it focuses on secret spots where locals are met at these spots which in turn act as tour guide. This is to help reveal isolated locations throughout New Zealand. In return members of the road trip are encouraged to give back to the locals and to keep the spot a secret!

We found the best way to connect with the target audience was through the uce of social media refering to a website and app. Above is the website for the user to connect with people and learn about or see what other people got up to during their road trip.
I created the merchandise and car signage to help create awerness of the campaign and a point of advertising. This could be used by the road trippers during the trip and something for them to take away from it. Check out a video I created for the project https://vimeo.com/142838012 Shared project with - Nathan Meek and Zoe Tollenaar

The aim of this project was to create a book inflenced by their achritecture style with your own imput. I chose to lay it out reflecting a solid structure through the placement of imagery and text.
21
I wanted to bring a modern style to this project and create a book that the company would be proud of.

booklet 2014
The brief for this project was to create a booklet on a certain something you found needed more guidance in Wellington for newcomers. Personally being a surfer and not knowing a lot about surf spots in Wellington I found a booklet giving useful information for the spots to work and conditions needed to work would be useful.

These are spreads from the booklet created using collage and information design. The surfer image being crowds, wave being average size and the wind being how much the wind affects each spot.
25
I found collage would be an easy way to show the key information and give a good idea of what each spot consists of or the culture surrounding it.

Still Thinking was a clothing label my brother and I started during 2013. We were inspired by other streetwear brands with a bit of design knowledge to start our own.

It didn’t last long as we got a bit busy with university but during the summer we made enough to live off. Doing all the design the marketing it was a good learning curve and a lot of fun.

voting poster 2014
This poster was for a brief to do with voting. I chose to focus on anti-voting. “There are many lies behind the truth” is the focal point for this poster, with the masked politicion keeping his hidden agenda inside his jacket trying to show you don’t know who or what you are really voting for.
