Study shows social networking sites lead to higher risk of teen substance abuse According to studies done by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA), 70 percent of teens between 12 to17 years old spend time on social networking sites every day. The same study also showed that teens spending time on social networking sites had a higher risk of drug, alcohol and tobacco use. Unfortunately, many parents don’t realize the dangers, failing to monitor what their teens are doing on these sites. “Anything goes” online attitude One of the main problems on the Internet, particularly social networking sites, is an “anything goes” attitude. Teens are bombarded with the freefor-all world of the web, and it’s easy for them to get caught up in the attitude, making them more likely to make poor decisions.
