What Is Cellular Detox?

Cellular Detox works by improving cellular function so the body is able to detox and heal itself. If you don’t detox the cell, you will not fix the cell, and if you don’t fix the cell, you will not get well. We believe periodic detoxification is in order for nearly every human being on the planet, but it must be done right to get results.

Cellular Detox and Chronic Disease What if you are eating healthy, exercising regularly and taking supplements but still struggle with chronic conditions such as no or low energy, inability to lose weight, headaches, joint pain, digestive problems, allergies, hormonal or thyroid imbalances, adrenal failure or other chronic body issues? You are NOT alone! You are among a growing number of Americans who are suffering from energy and weight loss resistance. This condition is being driven by neurotoxins that affect our brain, hormones, and ultimately our cells. It is a cellular problem that goes far beyond feeling tired or the inability to lose weight; neurotoxins are an “up-stream” cause of most chronic health conditions today. Why? Because, the majority of modern chronic diseases, including the rise in autoimmune conditions, autism related disorders, hormone conditions, cancer, heart disease, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, thyroid conditions, diabetes, chronic pain and any inflammation driven disease are all connected a condition of neurotoxicity resulting from an overflow of substances that are poisonous or detractive to our nervous system called neurotoxins. No matter how clean of a lifestyle we lead, toxins bombard us from all angles including our air, water, foods, body care

products, clothing and even store receipts. These toxins accumulate like liquid filling a bucket. With each toxic exposure, dropby-drop your bucket becomes more full. A drop here and there isn’t such a big deal, as our immune systems were designed to handle a degree of toxicity. However, chronic exposure to an onslaught of chemical, physical and emotional stressors fills up your bucket each day, and at some point the bucket begins to overflow, resulting in neurotoxicity. It may take a few decades before your bucket spills over, but once it does, cellular inflammation is triggered, symptoms arise and disease manifests.

Chemical Interference Usually we think of a spinal misalignment or interferences, called subluxations, as affect-

ing our nervous system, but chemical stress is also connected to our nervous system. Just like a spinal subluxation, chemical subluxations create interference from our brain to our body, which will affect the body’s detox “pathways” as well as how cells function, communicate and detox Sadly, the tactics, treatments and downstream detox that got people well in the past do not work nearly as well today because we are sicker and more toxic. The epidemic is at the cell and the detox MUST go there to be effective. We need to recognize that the massive increase in neurotoxins we are exposed to is like no time in the history of man. Many of these chemicals are new to our bodies and have become

Welcome To The Retired Inspired Community New community in Arrowhead puts inspiration at the center of life Winston Churchill once said, “We shape our dwellings, thereafter they shape us.” This pithy bit of wisdom is actually grounded in practical scientific principles that have influenced everything from architectural design to social sciences. In short, if a community wants to encourage its members to live well, shaping the environment around them can deliver positive outcomes. One retirement community in Glendale, Arizona is taking this wisdom to heart by designing a new kind of intentional community that puts inspiration, creativity and lifelong learning at the center of life. Aptly named Inspira Arrowhead, this new community offers programing that embraces every sphere of life – body, mind and spirit. When it comes to the body, Inspi-

ra promotes a synergetic approach to wellness that includes diet, exercise,

and 11 acres of beautiful walking paths and a heated pool. For the mind, In-

spira offers intellectual programming that covers a wide variety of subjects, including cutting-edge medical topics, holistic health, book clubs, and brain fitness. For the spirit, Inspira hosts activities, including a travel club, meditation, yoga, prayer groups, and much more. The onsite creative arts room can double as a personal art studio for your passionate projects, or to host gatherings for crafting, painting, writing, storytelling and other creative pursuits. Set to open in February, Inspira offers a choice of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartment homes including Independent, Assisted or Memory Care. To learn more about Inspira Arrowhead, visit www.inspiraarrowhead. com or call 623-235-6400. Located at 20240 N. 78th Avenue, Glendale.

Excerpts from David’s open letter to his 39 blood donors written on Dec. 19, his one-year anniversary of being cancer free

You don’t know me, and I don’t

know you, but what I do know is this … I owe you every day of my life. Today marks the one-year anniversary of

the day I heard my cancer was in remission. For one year I have been able to sleep in my own bed with my loving wife next to me. For one year I have been able to work full-time without hospital stays interrupting my passion – my vocation. For one year I have been able to look at myself in the mirror and not see any IV tubes coming out of my body. For one year, I have been able to live my life to the fullest. To be honest, the year of my treatment was the most difficult year I have ever had, and probably will ever have. For 285 excruciatingly long days, I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a form of blood cancer. For 285 days, I dealt with hospital stays, chemotherapy, intense side effects, powerful self-esteem issues, hate, anger, frustration, disappointment, anxiety, worry and even the thought that I might die. You may not know where your donation went, or why it was needed, but I do. I know how weak and tired I was. I know how close I was to dying without your gift. But your love, your gift, your selfless act kept me alive. You gave me hope. You gave me strength. You gave me the ability to continue fighting this disease that no one should ever have to deal with. You gave Marley and me countless more date-nights and even

the ability to get married. Your loving gift meant everything to me. So today, on the anniversary of my remission, I want to dedicate my life to you all. I want to make your sacrifice matter. I want to look back on my life and say, “I accomplished everything I accomplished because of the 39 people that saved my life. It is because of them that I was able to live my life to the fullest.” Thank you for being a blood donor and thank you for saving my life. -David United Blood Services is now Vitalant (Vye-TAL-ent) . . . Arizona School of Dental Assisting

5 Star Yelp Review from Tomi E. This school is AMAZING! They have the best instructors that put their ALL into teaching you everything you need to start your career. Brittany was my instructor and I couldn’t say thank you enough to her for everything she has done for me. Bianca is the front office coordinator and just the sweetest woman you will ever meet. She helped me land my job along with Brittany, those two are wonderful at what they do! They gave me the resources to find a job and I landed one immediately! The president of the school Lisa is a person I don’t have enough space to type about, she made my whole schooling easy, she did things for me that no other school would do! I can’t thank everyone there enough! They made my dreams come true! I LOVE ASDA!!!!

made the best decision for me and my family. I have to thank Lisa and Arizona School of Dental Assisting for helping me succeed and believing in me. I recommend anybody who wants a career in the dental field to definitely follow your dream and choose Arizona School of Dental Assisting.

Joel Pena ASDA gives you a great opportunity to learn. The instructors are always willing to help you out, and as long as you complete class assignments, homework and exams are a piece or cake. I wish I could continue a whole journey of learning with them because they are honestly the best teachers you could ask for. Thank you.

Jofni M. Arizona School of Dental Assisting is a great opportunity to get involved in the dental field. The teachers and staff are friendly and very supportive toward your education, and make sure you are secured with a position as a dental assistant.

“To succeed, you must first act.” Congratulations to Katia, graduate at Arizona School of Dental Assisting, for successfully completing the program. (Photo courtesy AZ School of Dental Assisting)

I highly recommend anybody to attend this school. The classes are small, but that’s the best part of it, the one-on-one attention.

For more information, call the Arizona School of Dental Assisting at 602678-7061, or visit our website, www. azdentalassistants.com.

Julie Brick This amazing school literally changed my life. From the instructors to the president, to the outlook coordinator, they all help you and are there for you throughout this process. Whatever you need, even if it is extra help with a particular study matter, they are there for you. They also assist with job placement. If it wasn’t for this school, I wouldn’t have the opportunity that I have now. Do not hesitate when looking for a dental program; the school of Arizona Dental Assisting is the only place to be.

Brittney Carrillo I really want to express my experience about when I attended Arizona School of Dental Assisting. It was life-changing for me. Years ago, I was in a place in my life that I knew was not the ideal way for how I wanted to spend the rest of my life. So, I made the decision to attend this school. Lisa, the president of the school, was my biggest support system, motivating me to believe in myself. The class was small and I felt I had more of a one-on-one experience with the instructor. Anytime I felt the need to talk to Lisa, she was there for me. I now have so many opportunities that have opened up for me because I

Medication education matters, La Siena: Vibrant retirement living with a wealth of supportive services particularly for older adults The opioid epidemic has been declared a state of emergency in Arizona, which creates a sense of urgency to address medication and opioid misuse. Although older adults are not dying from opioids at the rate of other populations, the impact of misusing medications, including opioids, is a threat to their independence. Medication misuse often leads to falls, increased hospitalizations and an overall decline in health. Older adults have access to much sought after opioid medications, which also puts them at increased risk for victimization. People age 65 and older make up 12 percent of the U.S. population but account for 34 percent of all prescription medication use and 30 percent of all over-the-counter medication use. As part of its mission to keep older adults safe and healthy in their homes, the Area Agency on Aging developed RxMatters, a presentation that addresses many elements of proper medication use including safe storage and disposal. This presenta-

tion can be delivered in the community or to individuals and caregivers in their home. Beginning in 2019, the Agency will also be hosting a series of brown bag events where those attending can have their medications reviewed by a pharmacist. The pharmacist review can assist in: • Spotting duplicate and/or outdated medication; • Promoting better patient/pharmacist communications; • Improving health literacy and understanding of medications. “We believe it is critically important to provide education and resources around the topics of medication and opioid misuse as a part of our Agency’s scope of services,” said Melissa Elliott, Vice-President of Programs & Services. For more information on classes, the upcoming brown bag events, to schedule a RxMatters presentation, or other resources, call (602) 264-HELP (4357) or visit www.aaaphx.org.

Those seeking a vibrant retirement lifestyle with a wealth of supportive services need look no further than La Siena, a Senior Resource Group community located in North Central Phoenix. Residents enjoy a maintenance-free lifestyle that includes weekly housekeeping, laundry service, scheduled transportation and a wealth of onsite amenities. Those looking to enjoy a leisurely afternoon can catch a matinee at the onsite movie theatre or catch up on their favorite book at the library. Residents looking to stay active have plenty of options with a heated swimming pool, putting green, dance studio and fitness center. Gourmands need not look further for a delicious dining experience – daily, fresh specials and an evolving menu are features of the

community’s Grand Canal Restaurant. The community’s independent and assisted living features spacious studios and stylishly appointed one- and two-bedroom residences. Should the need arise, La Siena’s licensed and accredited assisted living program provides a comprehensive menu of specialized care services that can be reduced or increased over time. Residents enjoy the flexibility and option of occasional or full-time assistance and have a peace of mind knowing that, should their needs change, a caring and professional staff will be there to meet those needs, now and in the future. We invite you to experience La Siena by taking a personal tour. To RSVP, please call 602-635-6968 or visit LaSienaSeniorLiving.com.

Comprehensive diabetes management for people and their pets By Shannon Scott, D.O., FACOFP

More than 100 million people in America have diabetes or pre-diabetes. It is one of the most common medical conditions, yet approximately one of four individuals living with diabetes remains undiagnosed. The Midwestern University Clinics in Glendale provide comprehensive diabetes care in one location to help patients not only manage their disease, but also to improve their quality of life. Diabetic patients can receive a variety of services in our clinics. Our family physicians offer screening for diabetes and diabetes medication management, including insulin. Your primary physician coordinates care with pharmacy services so that you receive diabetes and medication education. We offer classes on nutrition, blood sugar monitoring, and safe medication administration. Diabetic patients often have other medical conditions such as depression, chronic pain, stroke and heart disease. Our psychologists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and osteopathic manipulative medicine specialists play a key role in helping patients with

these conditions. Diabetic patients can also benefit from preventive care within our podiatry clinic, as well as the Midwestern University Eye Institute and Dental Institute. From a One Health perspective, we know that dogs and cats can also develop diabetes, and our Companion Animal Clinic can help you maintain your pet’s health and quality of life. Our interprofessional medical teams at the Midwestern University Clinics play a unique role in both patient-centered healthcare and health professional student education. We are proud to be training the next generation of healthcare providers. “Most people would not go to a hospital that isn’t accredited or send children to colleges that aren’t accredited,” said Sandra Dangelo, Executive Director at The Heritage Tradition. “So why isn’t that expected when considering a retirement community? Moving into a community that is accredited affords greater peace of mind that care and services have undergone intense scrutiny by an outside, third party.” It’s a fact, accreditation matters. Designed to encourage ongoing performance efforts and pursuit of excellence, accreditation is no longer just associated with healthcare and higher education institutions. It is an important seal of approval seniors and their families should look for when exploring senior living options. The Heritage Tradition is proud to have been awarded a 3-year accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). This demonstrates consistent

adherence to high standards of quality, successful professional practice, continuous monitoring, evaluation and improvement of programs, and that their priority is resident comfort, care and quality of life. Though federal and state guidelines don’t require senior living communities to be accredited, The Heritage Tradition believes this is an important distinction in providing the upmost care to residents. To achieve accreditation from CARF, a senior living community must demonstrate comprehensive conformance to approximately 1,500 elevated standards that measure the effectiveness of management and communication, programs and activities, and interaction with outside agencies regarding additional services for residents. Experience the CARF difference at The Heritage Tradition. Call 623.552.7858 today to schedule a tour or visit TheHeritageTradition.com to learn more.

The benefits of body donation By Heather F. Smith, Ph.D.

Q: What are the main benefits of body donation? A: Whole body donation has many benefits that you may not be aware of: 1. You will leave a lasting legacy by advancing medical education. Anatomy (the study of the human body) is the keystone subject upon which all future clinical courses for medical and healthcare students will build. Learning anatomy from a human cadaver is an unparalleled experience that provides the next generation of healthcare providers with an intimate connection with human anatomy that no simulation can offer. The body donor becomes the students’ first patient and most important teacher. 2. Your family can feel comfort knowing your wishes in advance. Donors to Midwestern University Body Donation Program may pre-register at any point in their lives (after the age of 18), and will receive a complete packet of information that you can share with your family, and a donor ID card with

our contact information and instructions to carry in your wallet. Providing detailed information to your family in advance can help them plan and give them the peace of mind that comes with knowing your wishes. 3. Donors may also contribute to continuing medical education that will improve patient care in their community. Practicing local emergency room doctors, surgeons and other practitioners associated with Midwestern University receive advanced training in surgical and diagnostic procedures and practice life-saving techniques that have direct applicability to patient care. Heather Smith, Ph.D. is the Director of the Midwestern University Body Donation Program. For more information, please call 623-806-7990 or visit www.midwestern.edu/ bodydonation.

Here to Help Written by Jay Lickus, Benevilla Marketing Coordinator

A group of family caregivers meets at a local church in Sun City West to share thoughts, feelings and experiences and cultivate a feeling of support, encouragement and inspiration from each other. Every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month this group of caregivers, neighbors and friends come together, not because they have to but because they want to. This specific group is for those who care for loved ones with various stages of dementia or Alzheimer’s. A diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or dementia is life-altering for both the person living with the disease and family and friends touched by it. On this particular day, 13 members, both male and female, mostly over the age of 50, are attending this support group because they are the primary caregiver of their husbands, wives or a parent. Within this short but crucial meeting, many life experiences, difficulties and advice are shared among the tight-knit group. Support Groups help members feel

less lonely and isolated in their circumstances. It also helps give members a sense of empowerment and helps them feel more control over their situation. A support group often is a source of information about new treatment or therapeutic options. Support groups help reduce anxiety and the chances of clinical depression. The goal is to learn, feel more connected and provide a higher quality of life. Benevilla knows taking care of someone can be difficult. In fact, studies show over 30 percent of caregivers will pass away before the person they are caring for. “The stress of caregiving can take a significant toll on one’s health,” says Joanne Thomson, Benevilla President and CEO. “The reason Benevilla offers these free support Benevilla offers a variety of Free Caregiver Support Group opportunities to our community. The SwissWave Protocol is truly the secret that Erectile Dysfunction drug companies don’t want anyone to know about. Why would they? They’re enjoying billions of dollars in profit, while most men are still struggling. But now, the SwissWave Protocol, a new approach to this significant health issue, is turning the ED world upside down. It works by using virtually painless acoustic energy waves, done in six short in-office sessions. Most of the time, patients will start to see results after just the first few treatments, and those results are long lasting. What they won’t see are side effects. Amazingly, there are no reported side effects during, immediately following, or post-treatment. The secret to its success is in the waves, which are believed to have the ability to “wake-up” dormant stem cells in the penis and draw them to the

erectile tissue, leading to improved erectile function and enhanced tissue growth. Originally developed to speed the healing process for musculoskeletal disorders and injuries, its ability to open existing blood vessels and promote tissue growth has been tested over and over – and found to be ideal for ED treatment. This treatment will allow you to be romantic, naturally, and bring the spontaneity back to your love life. The only clinic in the greater Phoenix area offering the SwissWave Protocol are DR Riske and Dr Sabatier at Peak Health Group. Find out more info at 480-5506640 or at www.peakhealthlife.com

If you suffer with erectile dysfunction, this may be the most important message you, or your wife, will ever read.

Erectile Dysfunction Treatment Breakthrough Restores Natural Healthy Function...No Pills,No Needles, No Pumps, No Surgery Safe - Proven • Non-Invasive • Long-Lasting • No Known Side Effects So Effective Other ED Treatments May Become Obsolete • Now Available In The U.S. The GOLD STANDARD treatment for erectile dysfunction in Europe, has come to America. The treatment is so SAFE & EFFECTIVE, specialists who treat erectile dysfunction, call Acoustic Wave Treatment a DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGY that may make all other ED treatments, including; pills, needles, pumps and implant surgery, obsolete. Over the last 15 years, hundreds of thousands in Europe credit Acoustic Wave Treatment as ‘the treatment’ that reversed the symptoms of ED, and helped them reclaim their manhood. Now available here in the U.S., results are pouring in. For example, John R. reports, “I’m 74 years old and had tried everything to get an erection. Nothing worked. I didn’t think anything could help me, until I tried this. Now I have the ability and the confidence to satisfy my wife in the bedroom. Thank you for giving me my sex life back!” If ED drugs like Viagra failed you, or you just want to be done with the side effects and expense, Acoustic Wave Treatment may be the long-term, pill-free answer you’ve been hoping for. Dozens of studies published in European Medical Journals, (and increasingly in U.S. journals), put success rates for men with mild to moderately-severe ED, (cleared by a doctor, and recommended for the treatment), near 100%. If you suffer with extreme ED, (resulting from diabetes, heart disease, cancer, or prostate problems), the documented success rate is near 70%, which is higher than any other treatment. Damage Caused By ED Is Real If blood flow to the two chambers of the penis is restricted for any reason, it becomes difficult to get and maintain an erection. And that marks the beginning of the end for your sex life. Left unattended, the vascular infrastructure of the penis begins to collapse. Tissues, veins and nerves shrivel up. Your penis shrinks. And part of what makes you a man, fades away.

A Ticking Time Bomb That Can Ruin Your Life... Erectile dysfunction can wreck your confidence. Destroy your ego. Damage your marriage. Threaten a relationship. And make you believe the best part of life is over. Erectile dysfunction robs you of the joy of pleasuring a woman in that special way. And if a woman longs for that pleasure, and you can’t provide it, she suffers in silence, while you feel less of a man. And that’s a blow to your ego. Not enjoying romance, intimacy, or just plain old sex whenever the mood strikes, is depressing. It affects your health. And makes life just a little less worth living. You deserve better. Common Erectile Dysfunction Treatments Create More Problems Than They Solve... Pills, needles, pumps and surgery share a common problem. Besides being expensive and potentially dangerous, all these approaches TREAT SYMPTOMS and IGNORE CAUSE. And unless cause is addressed, you will forever be dependent on the crutch, and the side effects, of pills, needles or pumps. The Superior Solution Compared to Acoustic Wave Treatment, other approaches are like a Band-Aids that keeps falling off. Acoustic Wave Treatment gets to the ROOT CAUSE of erectile dysfunction, so you don’t need the Band Aid. Why Acoustic Wave Works So Well... Acoustic Wave Treatment is a precise science. When you come to the clinic, a doctor performs a painless Doppler Ultrasound test to determine if there is a blockage in veins or arteries supplying blood to the penis. If a blockage is present, and you agree to the doctor’s plan, the technician uses a hand-held device to focus the acoustic (sound) waves on veins and arteries with obstructed blood flow. The sound waves, (calibrated to the proper depth), move through the tissue, and gently dissolve plaque that restricts blood flow to the penis.

The non-invasive treatment, which takes about 20 minutes, has no known sideeffects and requires no recovery time. If you accept the doctor’s treatment plan, you may be back to regular sex in as few as 3 to 6 treatments, with no pills, needles or pumps and no need for surgery. Results vary based on severity of the problem. All Acoustic Wave Therapy Is NOT The Same It’s Important To Make The RIGHT Choice... Choosing the wrong provider could lead to failure and disappointment, instead of firm success. 3 factors determine how successful your treatment will be. 1) Accurate diagnosis; 2) precise targeting of the sound waves. And; 3) the skill, competence, training and technique of the technician administering the treatment. Clinics that offer the SWISS WAVE PROTOCOLS, meet the highest possible certification standards for each factor. With success hanging in the balance, it is critical you get the best treatment possible. Return to Younger Days The Swiss Wave treatment prompts your body to rebuild the vascular infrastructure in your penis, and restore blood-flow and nerve response similar to what you experienced in your prime. It’s like a return to youth. Veins regenerate. Nerves grow. Narrow, shrivelled-up blood vessels become big and plump again. Girth increases. Sensitivity increases. Orgasms feel better than ever. What about Price? The only way to determine the price is to visit a Swiss Wave Clinic, meet with the doctor, and have the Ultrasound test, so the doctor can determine the problem, and map out a treatment plan customized for you. Why Men Love Swiss Wave Treatment Some love Swiss Wave because, over a just a few treatments, they enjoy an erection without taking pills, which means no more nasty side effects. No more hiding pills to keep your ED a secret. And no falling asleep waiting for them to work.

Ultimately, men love this treatment because it works.* When my prostate was removed, I thought my sex life was over. I am 70 and have not been able to get and maintain an erection for 12 years. Other treatments were not safe for me because of my medications. I had seen two doctors about my ED and neither of them could help. I didn’t think anyone could help me. I was nervous, embarrassed and skeptical. But the treatment worked! My wife and I hadn’t had sex for ages, and now we can. Thanks for giving me my sex life back! Gerald F. Age 70 “One treatment and I had sex with wife four times! This is better than I expected.” Richard M. “Four treatments, first erection in 5 1/2 years, very emotionally rewarding.” James V. Age 58 You’ve Suffered With ED Long Enough Now You Have A Choice... You stand at a crossroads. Go one way and the only thing that changes is your erectile dysfunction will get worse, until pills stop working, or needles or pumps damage your penis so badly, you can’t feel a thing. Go the other way and fun, play, intimacy, a stronger relationship, and sex any time you like, without pills or needles, may be yours. All it takes to get started is a phone call. Bob Heck and Barbara McDermid (Photo courtesy Hospice of the Valley)

Bob Heck – a 94-year-old winter visitor from Wisconsin – lives with his partner and caregiver Barbara McDermid in a Valley mobile home park. He was diagnosed with an advanced, rapidly-progressing type of cancer. Then he started chemotherapy and within weeks was feeling practically normal. His physician referred him to Hospice of the Valley’s MediCaring program, which provides home-based supportive care to Medicare patients getting treatment. Barbara is reassured knowing she can call Hospice of the Valley for help 24/7. “The anxiety was taken away,” she said. “It’s a relief.” “I like the feeling of not being alone,” Bob said. “I feel confident that Hospice of the Valley will be there when we need you.” One of the biggest obstacles to patients seeking hospice care is giving up treatment for their terminal condition, as required by current Medicare rules.

But under a new Medicare model program underway nationwide, patients can continue such care with community physicians while also getting hospice care. It’s the best of both worlds – for the patients and family caregivers. Hospice of the Valley is the only hospice in Arizona chosen to participate in the Medicare Care Choices model. The agency calls it MediCaring. Medicare is testing the hypothesis that hospice and palliative care given at the same time as treatment will improve quality of care, lower cost and decrease hospital stays. Participating hospices collaborate with community physicians. Family caregivers are supported by a team of healthcare professionals – available 24/7 for questions and urgent issues. For more information, contact Barbara Volk-Craft, PhD, project director, bvolkcraft@hov.org or (602) 5306900.

Clinical hypnosis – often called “hypnotherapy” is still largely misunderstood by those of the general public who have not experienced it with a properly trained hypnotist. From the inquiries I receive, it seems that most people still believe that hypnotherapy can be a quick fix for problems like habit control – usually cigarette addiction or compulsive eating, although I’ve seen a pretty wide range of habits in the ten years I’ve been seeing clients. Unfortunately, the idea that a hypnotist can change how you live your life in one or two sessions tends to be fostered by two things. First, a good number of people seem to have known a relative or friend who quit smoking after a single session with a hypnotherapist. Second, advertising claims rarely make it clear that such results are by far the exception rather than the rule. Yes, occasionally I have had amazingly rapid results – one client who bought a four session package to deal with obses-

sive-compulsive problems had a breakthrough after three sessions and gave her fourth session to her boyfriend. She was an ideal client – highly motivated to change with a strong in- F. Usually, however, I find that clients who succeed in changing how they live, whether it is dropping bad habits or changing the way they relate to the world emotionally, succeed by learning emotional intelligence skills. That learning is accelerated and intensified in hypnotic learning session that use the metaphors that the unconscious mind is able to readily process. A new approach to successful aging in Glendale

Steve Heller, Vice President and Director Center for Modern Aging. (Photo courtesy Glencroft Center for Modern Aging)

Hosts John Wenzlau & Millie Oakeson Listen LIVE Tuesdays at 11 am

For twenty years, Steve Heller has been the guru to amateur and professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, PGA, LPGA, and MLB. They chose him based on his extensive knowledge of exercise physiology in relation to sports-specific training and post rehabilitation conditioning. He co-created Fore-Max Training at the Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Fore-Max was named one of the top four vacation workout programs in the world. Now, Heller has taken on a new position as Vice President and Director of Glencroft’s Center for Modern Aging. Here, 900 residents live in a 40-acre continuum of care community and are helped through the aging process to achieve the greatest possible level of independence. As an organization they maintain focus on helping residents achieve a sense of fulfillment in many key areas of their lives: physically, mentally, socially, spiritually and emotionally. Steve stated, “We decided we had to change the narrative and drop the words ‘senior living.’ Older generations don’t want to feel dismissed to

live a monotonous life at a senior living community. The Center for Modern Aging is more than a wellness center, it is a complete shift in mindset. We are currently beta-testing the program off-site and launching it soon on campus at Glencroft. We focus on prioritizing the needs and desires of the residents, emphasizing wellness at every turn.” Obviously, we all want to be young again – why not go to college? The program will be fun and both mentally and physically stimulating by implementing a university-like setting. What better place to continue to search for and find purpose and direction in your life? Seniors will take classes in every aspect of wellness. Heller said, “We have an amazing staff of experts to teach classes along with top doctors in various fields from around the valley. We want our seniors to feel like they can keep learning and growing as people, that this is a new and exciting stage of life. This IS the key to successful aging.” For more information about Glencroft Center for Modern Aging please contact Steve Heller at 623-8473120.
