sitting on the bus bench at Venice and Lincoln — a lady, kind of hiding behind a big head of curly red-blond hair. At first, I just said “Hello,” and she sweetly nodded and said “Hello” back, then I’d see her there late at night and I’d give her a few dollars. Once I gave her a twenty and she said, “Are you sure you can afford this?” Anyway, I started talking to her each time I went by and got to know Liza Cox a little. She’s 59, has terrible back issues, a spine problem that makes it difficult for her to walk. She has been beaten by strangers and at one time had a stroke. She’s a delicate person with a soft-spoken voice. My heart truly went out to her! Turns out she’s been on that hard metal bench for months and months. But she always had a smile for me. I asked her if she wanted to have a room to call her own, and she said “That would be lovely.” I joked with her about her name being “Liza,” that it’s like Eliza Doolittle,
who sang “Wouldn’t it be Loverly” in “My Fair Lady.” Liza knew that the musical was based on “Pygmalion” by George Bernard Shaw... meaning she’s very bright! I started in earnest about three weeks ago to get her housed. I thought it might be a little easier to fast-track her now, because of COVID and all the hotels being empty, and with that lush HHH budget, that she could get a hotel room for the short term, under Project RoomKey while we looked for a permanent place for her. I first called St. Joseph Center — no response. Then I contacted Councilman Mike Bonin’s office, and he got right back to me (!), put me onto an assistant, Nick, (who I have been in touch with almost daily) who contacted a team to go interview her a few days later. The interview went well and Liza cried a little when she told me she was optimistic. It’s now been about two weeks, but I guess they have found no room for her yet. I also contacted VCHC (Venice Community Housing Corporation), and they told me they don’t do direct outreach, said I should call “211” and “LASHA” (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority), which I did. (211 is just for
N E W S emergency shelter for one night... not at all what Liza wants or needs, the latter is basically the city’s central point, with which Bonin’s office and all the Los Angeles Councilpersons work.) Essentially, every day I’m trying to coordinate with different organizations to get her a room where she can lay down her head. She’s very gentle, and can’t handle being in a shelter where there are other people ...and where she’d be more vulnerable to COVID. I’m hoping that someone who reads this may know about a new hotel opening up — some good news for Liza. our leaders to focus on building roads to the future rather than trying to build roads back to the past. Main Street’s spatial reorganization for Al Fresco only fractionally restored lost inside table service with small parklets under the rationale that businesses must be preserved, but that left crowding customers into narrow outdoor corridors as businesses only route to survival. Authorities were misguided to dedicate nearly half the roadway to traffic rather than including it in a forward-looking plan that values people over personal automobiles. I hope our decision makers can break through their cognitive dissonance to see how fundamental social distancing is to urban planning. Until they realize this, vital time and resources are misdirected. Tim Tunks, Ocean Park, Santa Monica

Couple sues Nike on claims of racial profiling at Santa Monica flagship store PHOTO BY LUIS CHAVEZ
By Sarah Donahue Joel Stallworth and his wife, TaMiya Dickerson, saw it as a milestone moment: a world-class athlete buying his 19-month-old son his first basketball. It ended, they say, with false accusations of shoplifting and confrontations with a white Nike manager and multiple policemen. In response, the Downtown LA couple filed a civil rights lawsuit in federal court against Nike and Wendy Magee, the former manager of the Nike store at Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, for claims of racially profiling and creating a traumatic, potentially life-threatening scene over a $12 basketball they paid for, according to the family’s lawyers. “That really broke me because if I did steal the ball, it’s a $12 ball,” Stallworth said in a July 9 Zoom press conference. “It was really never about the ball; it was about her racially profiling me as a Black man.” The incident happened on July 5, 2019. Stallworth, who owns The Small Shop LA in Downtown, said he was excited when he entered the store at Santa Monica Place. When he left after purchasing the ball, he said he heard a commotion and Magee was “spewing out accusations” about him stealing the item. She followed the family outside and aggressively asked for him to surrender what she claimed was a stolen ball, according to Stallworth. Magee reportedly demanded to see their receipt, to which Dickerson, a partner with a prestigious accounting firm, said she stepped in and told the manager to check the computer for proof of purchase. The family then began to walk away and head to a restaurant, they said. Magee summoned the police to handle the situation, said Dan Stormer, a lawyer representing the case. Dickerson said she recorded the loud confrontation with the policemen on her phone as the bustling promenade crowd observed. She held her child close in a sling, hoping the situation wouldn’t turn violent, she said. “I couldn’t believe this was happening to us,” Dickerson said. “I started recording it and also I started announcing that I was
Joel Stallworth and TaMiya Dickerson allege that Santa Monica Nike store manager Wendy Magee racially profiled them while shopping for a basketball for their infant son recording it because I was worried that the police were going to attack.” Frustrated with the situation, the family returned the basketball for a refund, they said. Even after seeing the receipt, the policemen followed closely behind the couple as they went inside the store to get their refund, Stormer said. This furthered the impression that the couple had done something wrong. The police never apologized, even after they saw proof of purchase, Stormer noted. Nike issued a statement to Argonaut sister publication LA Downtown News about the incident, saying: “Nike has clear policies and training in place to ensure the well-being of our employees and customers and prohibit profiling. In this situation, the store manager violated our policy by leaving the store and is no longer with the company. We will continue to work with our teams to ensure we deliver on our expectations for

consumer experiences.” Another of the family’s lawyers, David Washington, said Magee was fired for breaking a policy of leaving the store, not for publicly racially profiling the couple and causing an embarrassing and also potentially life-threatening scene. Magee had a history of racist practices with her Black employees and customers, according to Washington. Immediately after the incident when the couple was getting a refund, a Black employee confided in Dickerson, saying Magee did this all the time — multiple times that day even—and he knows what it feels like, Washington said. During Magee’s time as manager, she used the Nike radio system to use coded language like “Keep an eye on the VIP customer,” as a way to instruct employees to keep surveillance on Black customers, Washington said. She also required Black employees — but not white employees —to turn their jackets
inside out at the end of shifts to prove they weren’t stealing, Washington added. Since 2017, Nike employees who worked with Magee used their “anonymous” Nike hotline to report her racist practices, but nothing was done to correct her behavior, Washington said. “Multiple witnesses have established Magee’s racist treatment of employees and customers and multiple witnesses have established Nike’s conscious decision to let it continue,” Washington said. Magee subsequently filed a lawsuit against Nike claiming she was wrongfully terminated because she was white, according to Stormer. What is important to note, Stormer said, is that this wasn’t just any family. This is a couple whose families are “exceptional tributes to overcoming discrimination and adversity through athletics,” he emphasized. Dickerson is the daughter of legendary USC football player
Sam Dickerson. Her late father is famous for scoring a winning touchdown against UCLA in 1969 and leading a defeat against the all-white Alabama Crimson Tide in the 1970 “Game That Changed the Nation,” which helped integrate college teams in the South. Stallworth and Dickerson grew up in East Stockton, what Stallworth described as “one of the roughest neighborhoods in California.” Stallworth said basketball was a safe haven. He played with a tight-knit group of family members on a high school team and the skills he learned conditioned him to be ready to run track for college, he said. Stallworth is a three-time all-American athlete and holds records from his time on the Nike-sponsored Cal State University-Stanislaus track and field team. He was sponsored by Nike for track again when he won a gold medal for the United States in the 2008 IAAF World Champi-

onships in Valencia, Spain. “Nike wasn’t just a swoosh, Nike was part of his life; Nike was an integral part of his existence,” Stormer said. The couple said the incident was embarrassing, traumatizing and still has a lasting impact on them as well as their relationship. “This experience has been a dark cloud over our family,” Stallworth said. Dickerson said since the incident she has felt anxious, helpless and struggles to sleep. As a mom, she said it was mortifying because she didn’t know whether to guard
her husband against the police or protect her child and record the incident from afar. “It has stolen my joy and consumed my life,” said Dickerson, who added recalling the incident makes her feel ill. Whenever Stallworth hears the word “receipt,” he said he is taken back to the moment. “I’m constantly feeling like I have to prove myself as innocent when I’m already innocent and that’s not fair,” he said. Dickerson and Stallworth want accountability from Magee and Nike, the latter of which, they

said, is profiting from a deceitful ad campaign claiming that Black Lives Matter. Stormer said they want a jury to analyze Nike’s behavior so it cannot “functionally gaslight” its employees or customers any longer. “What we are now seeing is the filing of this lawsuit caused by this insensitivity toward African Americans and the use of them as a way of making money but in reality, not really supporting them,” Stormer said. No monetary damages have been specified, according to the statement from lawyers. This lawsuit includes causes of action for unlawful detention, false imprisonment, slander, the denial of equal rights under the law, and various other violations of state and federal law, the statement said. “Discrimination is deep-seated in our society, it has to be addressed,” Stormer said. “Racism was fundamentally at the bottom of what took place on July 5, 2019.”

A Fighting Chance Post-looting, Santa Monica’s popular boxing gym The Stables is knocked down but not defeated By Amber Hubert “Hit shit and get fit.” That’s the motto you’ll hear at Prime Time Boxing, aka The Stables, a boxing gym located in Santa Monica, owned by Olympic-level boxing coach Cary Williams. The Stables not only houses her “boxers in training” but also a unique program created by her and her romantic partner, IFBB (International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness) pro bodybuilder and YouTube fitness celebrity Damien Patrick. Their program Boxing & Barbells combines authentic boxing and weight training into a complete
workout. “Boxing is empowering for men and women,” says Williams. “It gives you self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment — not just because you completed another workout but because you want to perfect your left hook and strive to get better. Plus, you get to hit shit.” Like many small business owners across the state, Williams and Patrick are suffering the financial blows of California’s on-again-off-again shutdowns of fitness centers in order to flatten the curve and avoid the spread of COVID-19.
PAGE 8 THE ARGONAUT JULY 23, 2020
“I had to come up with a new marketing strategy overnight,” says Williams of the initial shutdown of fitness centers back in March. “We had been debating offering the Boxing & Barbells courses online and this put a fire in me to do it.” So the couple pivoted to teaching online workouts that people can do from home, invested in a new camera, bought high-quality film equipment and a Zoom subscription. Then disaster struck. “We were only at 20% of our normal capacity when the looting happened,” says Williams.
The Black Lives Matter movement has been gaining momentum over the past few months and made its way to Santa Monica on May 31. While BLM protesters peacefully raised their voices on Ocean Avenue looters took advantage of police attention on the activists and ravaged downtown Santa Monica businesses. “I’m white. Damien is Black. As a female-owned and anti-racist business, I wasn’t concerned The Stables would be a target for the looters who were taking advantage of the protests — and they were opportunistic looters, not
protesters,” says Williams, “plus the BLM march was scheduled to happen over half a mile from the gym. I just wasn’t worried.” But unfortunately, late in the afternoon on May 31, Williams received a call from the concerned daughter of the man who owns Ed’s Liquor, a small grocery store across the street from The Stables. “I didn’t even know the owner of Ed’s Liquor,” Williams recalls. “He wasn’t answering his phone and his daughter got nervous because of the protests so she called me, his neighbor, to check in on him. Then she told me she

Elite athletes and celebrity fitness couple Cary Williams and Damien Patrick are fighting to keep the boxing gym they’ve built with their “blood, sweat and tears” alive had just seen on the news Sherman Williams had been looted. That’s a few stores down from us. I told Damien, ‘We need to go down there, now.’” They drove through what Williams described as “a war zone.” Smoke filled the air as police shot tear gas canisters at Black Lives Matter protesters near the corner of Pico and Lincoln Boulevards. Williams and Patrick took residential streets and made it inside the gym going through the back alleyway entry due to road closures. While inside, looters pilfering Walgreens moved a dumpster to block an entrance to the alley. “I didn’t feel safe. There was smoke outside, sirens — we even passed a burning car on our way there and watched as three other getaway cars sped off,” Williams remembers. The looters smashed the front window of The Stables and before Williams and Patrick arrived had made off with all of the new camera and film equipment, a printer, over two dozen pairs of boxing gloves, half of their weights, medicine balls, jump ropes and merchandise from William’s “Too Pretty” clothing line. They reported the incident to
the police and later the FBI after seeing their stolen branded boxing gloves for sale on apps like LetGo, eBay and Facebook Marketplace. “It’s a very strange feeling,” Patrick reflects in a YouTube video he posted after the experience. “When people say they feel violated when this happens, I know what they mean now — people destroying the place you put your blood, sweat and tears
into. I support the protesters 110% who are doing things peacefully but as a Black man in this country, I have experienced — multiple times — racial profiling from police officers, harassment, even physical abuse. What I don’t support are low-life people taking advantage of the situation. You’re stealing from someone who is just like you, who has experienced racism just like you have.”
With business insurance that doesn’t cover the damage or property loss, a landlord offering zero rent reduction with a full plan to recoup all missed rent allowed by the rent moratorium provided by The CARES Act, and a dramatic loss in business due to the pandemic, a friend of Williams started a GoFundMe to help keep the boxing gym the community has come to depend on alive. Williams isn’t a stranger to the
economy’s effect on small businesses. Before the recession in 2008, she had grown Prime Time Boxing into a franchise and had two large deals fall through because investors pulled out. “I have a fighting spirit,” Williams says. “Growing up in Del Paso Heights, a low-income neighborhood in Sacramento, my dad taught me to be tough. My mom left when I was two and died when I was 14, so it was just us. My father taught me how to protect myself by punching pillows. And knowing when to run. Most fights aren’t worth it.” Williams founded Prime Time Boxing in 1998 on her self-described sweat-equity and what was then called a “feel good” personal business loan, after convincing a banker to take a shot on her dream of owning her own boxing gym. “I was bored at my desk job after college,” Williams recalls. “I literally bought the book ‘Business Plans for Dummies’ and took my best shot at it. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I have worked my ass off as a woman in an industry that’s dominated by men.” But as Williams and Patrick fight to keep The Stables’ doors open while keeping them closed for the second time due to Governor Newsom’s recent executive order to lockdown gyms, restaurants, salons and other non-essential businesses — they continue to face hurdles. “We will keep fighting but sometimes you just get tired,” Williams says. “But we’re strong and at least we have each other.” If anyone can stay in the ring, it’s Cary Williams and Damien Patrick. Zoom, Zoom, Zoom! Heidi Duckler Dance’s yellow Mustang is the launching pad for student-driven online performance
HDD’s yellow Mustang convertible is the springboard for Culver City High School students’ upcoming virtual performance
By Katherine Brubaker What do Zoom and a yellow Mustang have in common? Los Angeles-based dance company Heidi Duckler Dance and Culver City High School students will show the connection during a final Zoom video performance this Friday (July 24) — the culmination of a five-day online movement workshop with the company, which students completed this week. The online event also features a showing of a previously recorded performance of HDD’s “Move Me.” That piece was created for the company’s 2002 yellow Mustang convertible, which was “used as a performance site and educational platform designed to foster encounters between artists and audiences in public spaces,” according to a release describing the event. Heidi Duckler, the director of the company, explained that the company has produced many sitespecific performance pieces in a myriad of locations over the last three decades. “We’ve been doing [site-specific work] for 35 years. We are pretty much a pioneer in the medium. The content is created on site, so it’s never created somewhere else and then plopped into a space. So whether

the content is created in a community, whether it’s created in a location, or whether it’s created on screen or on Zoom, sites are always being redefined,” said Duckler, who’s also staged works in laundromats, an abandoned movie theater and on the hood of a 1970s Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Through Zoom, students from The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts at Culver City High School took five days of movement and expression workshops with artist Rafael Quintas, a Heidi Duckler Dance Teaching Artist. Friday’s online event showcases an original video performance created by students. In addition to the student performance, viewers will be able to watch Quintas perform in a recording of the original “Move Me.” Duckler described the kind of training and dancing her company does, which is taught in their workshops. “Many companies look for a sort of a homogenous look for their dancers — basically having all of them trained in a particular genre or style,” said Duckler ahead of the Culver City High academy workshop. “The way our company develops our technique is through a sort of original vocabulary. We look for dancers that are unlike any other dancers. They are trained to mind their own body and its own particular and unique talent. Everyone has potential that can be developed. And so there’s no sort of invitation or following or learning of steps, but it’s all kind of really finding the tools and information to really develop what you have and then to increase and expand upon that — to really use your own resources for expression to the extreme.” Due to COVID-19, HDD adapted the workshop and performance experience with Culver City High students to an online platform, but Duckler feels that learning dance virtually — while unusual — has its benefits. “Everyone is working remotely, which changes things and challenges us,” she said, “but the students will be on Zoom working from their homes. And I think that’s interesting. I think that, you know, that’s the site. Everyone will have their own site to deal with and to create within and to share. It is kind of an interesting cross-section of public and private. “When you’re peering into somebody’s space like that on Zoom,” Duckler continued, “how much do you want to share and reveal and how much do you want to protect? So these are interesting conversations to have, I think, in terms of boundaries and borders and [it’s] very much a topic that’s so relevant today. I think it will be very interesting for the students to explore within their home and to share with their peers and colleagues and then to come up with some exploration of their identity as it relates to where they are. It will be quite a profound week for them.” Tune in to see the results! Culver City High’s final student performance of “Move Me” happens at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 24 via Zoom. Rooted in Compassion Village for Vets supports veterans sheltering at West LA VA during pandemic PHOTO COURTESY OF VILLAGE FOR VETS
Village for Vets volunteers have created a community of support for veterans safe camping on the VA’s campus By Dev Jaiswal Marcie Polier Swartz’s eagerness to help her community is rooted in history. Inspired by her brother, uncle and father, all veterans of the United States Armed Forces, Swartz founded Village for Vets, a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting homeless and at-risk Los Angeles veterans. “There are three veterans in my family, so this is very personal to me,” Swartz says. “Really, it’s a passion.” Village for Vets, founded in 2016, offers four types of services for veterans: meals, emergency financial assistance, basic needs initiatives and social support. The organization provides more than 1000 meals a week. Veterans receiving meals include the approximately 50 veterans housed in the Safe Camp tent area known as the Care Treatment and Rehabilitation Service Program (CTRS) at the West Los Angeles VA. The safe camp was specifically set up to provide socially distanced shelter during the coronavirus pandemic. For these veterans, Brentwood School donates 500 meals daily Monday through Friday, and Village for Vets arranges the weekend meal. Other food-focused initiatives at Village for Vets include donating food boxes, as well as a few activities done in partnership with Meals on Wheels and Safe Parking L.A. “It’s really been a silver lining of this horrible pandemic,” Swartz says. Besides meal services, Village for Vets also provides grants to veterans facing a financial hardship, who may otherwise slip into homelessness without the assistance. The group’s “Basic Needs” initiatives include supplying move-in kits to those moving into housing in addition to helping some veterans obtain I.D. cards. Social events include “Paint ‘n
Snack” art therapy events, a Superbowl party and an annual “Stand Down” event in October where veterans can receive haircuts, showers, clothing and meals. “Stand Down” usually has over 150 volunteers helping out, but the event will not occur this year due to COVID-19. The coronavirus also presented some other challenges to Village for Vets, particularly in March when donations suddenly stopped. But after some initial assistance from the office of District 3 Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, more donations began trickling in. “We started getting unexpected donations that enabled us to be able to continue to fund this food program,” Swartz said. “We couldn’t be doing any of it if it weren’t for the generous donations that we are receiving.” Additional major donors include Cedars-Sinai Health System, United Way, The Annenberg Foundation, the Tech Sgt. Jack Kushner Ret’d Foundation and The American Legion Post 283. Additional partners include the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, New Directions for Veterans and supportive services nonprofit Step Up on Second. Donations can be made on the website. By Amy Watsky Going to the grocery store has become intense. Gearing up with gloves and masks, weaponizing the grocery cart to maintain a proper six-foot distance from others, and sanitizing your credit card after rushing to check out has become the unfortunate new normal. No more are the days of carefully scouring the produce aisle to hand-select the perfect avocado or staring into the freezer door to read all fifty ice cream flavors before making that crucial final decision; you want to get out of there — fast. For those of you craving fresh and delicious fruits and veggies without the stress of your dreaded weekly grocery trip, pair up with Crop Swap to form a deliciously mutualistic relationship that gets you the best nutrient-dense local foods while keeping our precious local farms afloat during these precarious times. CropSwap is a nationwide food delivery service that connects you to nearby farms. To trade in that grocery trip for a CropSwap delivery, download the CropSwap app on the App store (for free!), and use the map to see what’s growing around you. On the Westside, boxes filled with a variety of everything from flowers to microgreens to fruits and vegetables are readily available from multiple different urban growers ranging in price from $13 to $50. Not only could this be a great way to avoid the grocery store, but also a fun way to send delicious food or

delivered by CropSwap. Coordinated through the CropSwap app, each participant received a large box of ingredients with fresh herbs such as rosemary and bay leaves, plums and clementines at the peak of their season, and an array of fresh vegetables including cauliflower and zucchini from Sow A Heart, a carbon negative farm committed to environmentally healthy production that delivers all across LA. To start off the Sage Vegan Zoom cooking class, chef Mollie took the time to go
through each type of produce, advising participants on shelf life and storing tips to make the box last the whole week, making this delivery service something families of all sizes can comfortably enjoy. The recipe she prepared was an easy-to-follow, flexible one-pot primavera combining ingredients from the box and pantry staples such as pasta and jarred sauce of any kind — the perfect way to showcase the vibrant colors and flavors of the vegetables provided. The dish itself came together
quickly, yet packed a wide range of flavor and texture. Despite the fact that we were following her recipe, the class felt entirely personalized. All in one large pot of boiling water, Chef Mollie instructed us to add “whatever kind of pasta you like!” A couple of minutes before the pasta was cooked through, she encouraged us to choose “whichever vegetables you want!” from the CropSwap box to chop up and throw into the pot. After draining the water out of the pot, she chuckled as she once again had us customize
the dish, exclaiming “any type of sauce works for this!” After stirring for a minute, the dish came together. I customized my bowl by using rigatoni pasta, broccoli, cabbage, kale and tomato sauce. Topped off with parmesan cheese and some microgreens, the dish brought out all of the unique flavors of each vegetable into one cohesive pasta dish. I’m entirely un-embarrassed to admit that I devoured all of the leftover veggies straight from the pot immediately after logging out of Zoom. The accessibility of

BLURT FORCE TRAUMA I became friends with this awesome guy who moved into my apartment complex. I can tell that he’s into me, but he’s not my type at all. What should I say to tell him I’m not interested? —Uncomfortable Telling a guy you aren’t interested before he asks you out is like coming up to a stranger in a bar and saying,“This seat taken? By the way, I find you sexually repellant.” Rejection shouldn’t be thrown around like croutons to geese. Social psychologist Mark Leary notes that romantic rejection can lead to people feeling ashamed for being “inadequately valued” by someone they’re romantically interested in. The shame comes out of how high social status (being extremely valued by others) evolved to be the Amex Black Card of human interaction. It comes with important benefits, such as better access to resources, including a better choice of romantic partners. However, though shame is painful, the notion that it is a “bad,” maladaptive emotion is based in assumptions that passed for science (from 1971 by clinical psychologist Helen Block Lewis) that failed to look for the possible function of shame. Emotions are evolved motivational tools that drive us to act in ways that enhance our survival and mating opportunities and help us pass on our genes. Accordingly, cross-cultural research by evolutionary psychologist Daniel Sznycer suggests
that shame is a “defensive system” that motivates us to behave in ways that keep us from being devalued or further devalued by others in our social world. In a harsh ancestral environment, this could have kept us from being thrown out of our band and starving to death and/or getting eaten by a tiger. In the current environment, where food is plentiful and tigers mainly exist in cartoon form on cereal boxes, if you can avoid making a guy feel ashamed, it’s a good idea. A feminism- and #MeToo-driven feature (or bug) of the current environment is that men are often afraid to be direct with women they’re into: “Don’t ask for what you want; just stare at it and hope it trips, falls into your lap, and decides you’re attractive.” If this guy seems interested but remains mum, there’s no reason to humiliate him by telling him you don’t find him attractive. Avoid flirty talk and body language and situations that could slide into makeout sessions, like Netflix ’n’ chillin’ together. If he does ask you out or make a move, be immediately clear and direct: “I’m only interested in you as a friend.” (Ambiguous brushoffs like,“It’s not a good time” send the message,“Try again at a later date!”) If you can act like nothing awkward has happened between you, it should minimize his humiliation and shame. Sadly, sometimes “the birds and the bees” is a category that also includes “the vegetables,” as in, “I like you as a person, but I find you sexy like a potato.”
BLEACHABLE MOMENTS I’m a 27-year-old elementary school teacher. My boyfriend wants to film us in bed, but I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it. I can’t help but play out some nightmare scenario that we break up and he does something awful with the footage. He’s a good guy, and I trust him, but this still seems like a reasonable fear to have. Should I just calm down and go with it, or should I tell him my fears? —Ms. Anonymous
