Paul’s Car Care: A one-stop auto repair shop BY ALISON STANTON

When Paul Cadieux moved from Canada to Arizona, he had one goal in mind—to own an auto repair shop. In October 1999 Cadieux fulfilled his dream when he opened Paul’s Car Care in Chandler. The family-owned business—Cadieux’s wife Maureen works in the front office— provides bumper-to-bumper services for a wide range of foreign and domestic vehicles. From servicing and repairing transmissions and engines to fixing timing belts, checking engine lights and much more, Cadieux says, with the exception of body work, his shop can handle it all. “We are truly a one-stop shop, and we provide full car care using only top quality parts,” he says. “We are not afraid to tackle more complex jobs that involve things like removing the entire dashboard and other repairs.” Paul’s Car Care also handles a significant number of alignments, Cadieux says. “We have a Hunter laser alignment machine, and the service is performed by top technicians.” One of the things that helps to set his business apart, Cadieux says, is his commitment to making sure air conditioning repair is done correctly. “Some people will just pump Freon into the vehicle but they don’t really have a clue as to what they are doing,” he says,

adding that overcharging a vehicle with Freon is just as bad as undercharging it. “When people will try to put in their own Freon, they will usually put in too much and overcharge it. When this happens, the compressor will have to work harder than it should, which can lead to the early death of the air conditioning system.” Cadieux says his technicians are careful

to do every air conditioning service based strictly on the manufacturer’s specifications for the particular vehicle. “When we are servicing the air conditioning, we reclaim the Freon that is in the system, and then we pull a vacuum which removes moisture and contaminants and then recharge it. If the manufacturer’s specifications say to use 1.43 pounds of Freon, then that is

what we will put in. If you do it this way, everything runs colder and we rarely have comebacks.” No matter what type of maintenance, diagnostics or repairs are taking place at his business, Cadieux says customer service and satisfaction are the top priority. For example, Cadieux and his service technicians always keep the old parts to show the customer and help explain what has been replaced on their vehicle. Cadieux says he, his wife and their employees enjoy working with their customers, many of whom come back time and time again and also refer friends and family. “I love the clientele that I work with; 99.9% of them are very friendly and they are all super nice people. I enjoy clowning around and kidding around with them,” Cadieux says, adding that the one-on-one interaction with his customers is one of the things he enjoys most about his work. “I like what I do. It’s the only reason I keep doing it.” Paul’s Car Care is located at 1459 N. Arizona Ave., in Chandler. Hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This annual event is Chompie’s way of saying thank you for the 34 years of customer support. More than 11,495 Jewish sliders were purchased during last year’s one-day celebration. Made famous in 2010 on Travel Channel’s “Man v. Winners receive the meal for free, an ultimate slider T-shirt and a coveted spot on Chompie’s Wall of Fame. “It’s amazing what a not-solittle sandwich can do,” says Wendy Borenstein-Tucker, co-owner of Chompie’s. “It makes people happy and brings them together. TARGET ADDING RETAILERS

NEW RETAIL COMING: Two years after the new Chandler South Target Store opened on Arizona Avenue south of Ocotillo Road in Southern Chandler, construction is underway to add additional retailers. As part of the 73-acre Paseo Lindo development, shopping center management company Red Development shows LA Fitness on its map as a second anchor east of the Target store. According to a SanTan Sun News interview in 2011 with Steve Backman, vice president of RED Development, a number of sit-down and fast-casual restaurants, fashion, teen and children’s apparel and other complementary concepts had “shown strong interest” in Paseo Lindo for a possible 2013 start. Retailers now open on the south side of the shopping center include Fastmed Urgent Care, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Starbucks, Supercuts, Wendy’s and Yogurtopia, with a Chick-fil-A awaiting construction. The Target Store is located at 3777 S. Arizona Ave., on the east side of the street. STSN photo by Laurie Fagen
