Yvette ‘Yvee’ Brooks Joins ‘Your Future is Our Business’ as Executive Director

Your Future is Our Business welcomes Yvette “Yvee” Lopez Brooks as the new executive director, succeeding Mary Gaukel Forster.

Brooks brings 15 years of experience in public education to her new job. An advocate for children and their families, she currently serves as Capitola mayor. She is married and is a mother of a 7-year-old.

“Yvee brings strong leadership skills and extensive experience with public service, education and youth-focused programs,” said YFIOB Board President David Wright. “She is uniquely qualified to manage the programs and relationships that will help Santa Cruz County students understand the career options available to them.”

Your Future Is Our Business hosts monthly career panels and expos at schools, ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade. Students get practical advice

on planning a career path. The nonprofit is staffed by post-secondary interns, supervised by an executive director. “I am thrilled to be part of such an incredible organization,” Brooks said, describing the nonprofit’s work as “essential” to the community’s future.” She added, “I am a testament to what mentorship and advocacy can become when community leaders invest and I am so proud to continue this important work as my next Yvette Brooks career.” A 2006 graduate of UC Santa Cruz, Brooks previously worked at the Santa Cruz County Office of Education. Much of the change from commercial to residential was due to takeout dining and mail-ordered products during 2020.

Youth Action Network

The City of Capitola is happy to announce a partnership with the Youth Action Network.

YAN Is a newly reformed initiative (formerly known as the Youth Violence Prevention Network) that is building a collaborative of youth, adult allies, community partners, stakeholders and youth-serving organizations in Santa Cruz County to increase youth voice and youth leadership in local decision-making.
