Annual refresher courses for teachers and staff on fire fighting are held by Crawford International School as one of the safety measures to protect pupils, employees and visitors from fire risks.
“Safety for everybody who is learning, living, working, or visiting our premises is a matter of top priority, explained Joy Njoroge the Health and Safety Occupational Manager of Crawford International School. All fire alarms, sprinkler systems and extinguishers are regularly checked and we make sure that our marshals know which type of extinguisher to use for different types of fire.”
“During the fire fighting training participants are taught which extinguishers should be used for different types of fires. For example the correct extinguisher for a fire caused by an electrical fault is not appropriate for one caused by a defective stove in a kitchen.
The final session of the training is devoted to dealing with a real fire. This is held well clear of the buildings with each learner given the opportunity to extinguish a blaze.”
In addition teachers and staff are shown how to ensure a calm and orderly evacuation through the emergency exits. They are instructed to ensure that everyone gathers at the designated assembly points which are located a safe distance from fires, or other dangerous situations.
