Tell me about yourself. Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m a 29-year-old Spaniard currently living in Edinburgh, Scotland. I have a day job as a Content Marketing Strategist at a digital marketing agency but spend my evenings and weekends being busy working as a photographer and editor (Girls on Film zine & Future Positive).

How did you get into photography? I started taking photographs when I was around 21 years old. Back then, I was studying my Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering and I guess I wanted to do something creative to balance the technical load of my degree. When I started, there was this popular social media website in Spain called Fotolog where you were only allowed to upload a photo a day and you could only get up to 10 comments on it. I started using it, taking photos every day and uploading them waiting for feedback. I guess I could say I was a little addicted to this social platform, but this made me want to snap something everyday and also really helped me improve my photography skills. After the first 2 or 3 years taking photos I realised that it wasn't a hobby for me and that I wanted photography to be a part of my career. When I finished my Bachelor and Master degrees I decided that I wanted to spend more time on it and, since then, I've been building my portfolio and have worked for a few fashion and music magazines. 71

What is your favorite thing about shooting film? I enjoy the whole process, from buying film to picking up the rolls from the photo lab. I like the uncertainty of not knowing how the final result is going to look like. I think this really helps you understand lighting, framing and other aspects of photography in a much better way than if you use digital. There's also more observation and more attention to detail (at least in my case), as you can't take an unlimited number of images like when you're shooting digital.

Tell me a little bit about the area in which you live. How has it affected the type of photography you do? I've been living in Edinburgh for 3 years now, but have also lived in Glasgow and Liverpool. Living in the UK has really affected my photography work and I think it has even made everything easier for me. I feel really inspired by British brutalism and suburbia and these two elements are now a quite recognisable part of my photography. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up here and find it more interesting, but every time I walk on the street I'm constantly seeing places where I would like to take photos.

One of my favorite things about your photography is that (to me) it gives off this happy-go-luck feeling, mixed with both this simplistic and somewhat elegantly unusual look that seems to work very well in European fashion. Would you attribute this to your personality/personal view of the world or is this something you have actively worked towards in your more commercial career?

Thanks a lot. I would say I attribute it to my personal and aesthetic view of the world, but at the same time and in my opinion, having your style is something you always need to care about and pay special attention to. People say that my style is easy to recognise and I'm really happy about that. Since I started taking photographs, I knew that I wanted to achieve some kind of consistency in my work and not do things that look completely different. I guess this might be because all of my favourite photographers have their own identifiable style.

Finally, what advice do you have for people trying to make a profession in photography? Practice every day and take risks. Also, one of the most important parts of being a photographer nowadays is knowing how to market yourself. I definitely spend more time sending my portfolio around and writing emails than taking photos!
