4 Ways to Rock Casual Glam
Start soft. "Although I love silver, emerald, and turquoise, those colors should be reserved for night. For a subtle daytime sheen with a kick, use champagne, gold, copper, or even navy," Martin advises. So basically: Swap your usual neutral shadow for a loose glitter version. It'll instantly update your everyday makeup routine, and while the switch is unexpected and a little boundarypushing, you won't risk looking like a stage-ready David Bowie. Tone down the lipstick. "The rest of your face should be natural-looking if you're making a statement with glitter on your eyes," Martin says. Don't be afraid to try a nude lip—your multidimensional eye acts as the perfect anchor for a more minimal pout. Experiment with matte and high shine formulas to get the perfect balance. "As night falls, trade lipstick for a nude gloss to pick up the textures in the glittery eye," Martin adds. Go all-out, because why not? If you're feeling bold, use MAC Glitter to create a gorgeous sparkle-encrusted lid. Apply Urban Decay Bondage Weightless Adhesive to secure the particles and then work your way up towards your crease, "fading out" as you get closer to your brow. For an even edgier approach, take a cue from the Anna Sui Spring/Summer 2015 show, where makeup legend Pat McGrath applied a gold gleam on the middle of the top and bottom eyelids and in the inner corner. It's the easiest way to add a rock 'n' roll vibe to your aesthetic—just don't be surprised if this look turns heads in the halls. What are your thoughts on bold beauty at school? Pro? Con? Are you going to up your glitter game this semester? Tell us in the comments!
How Teens Are Taking Over the Gourmet Game From ridiculously talented teen chefs to a new crop of young food fanatics, the culinary world is getting cooler every day. by Shaun Dreisbach Teen Chefs and the Foodie Generation Photo: Dan Forbes "It's the perfect cooking storm." That's how celebrity chef and Chopped judge Alex Guarnaschelli describes the whirlwind of events that's created our growing national obsession with food. Good food. And right now teens are square in the eye of that storm. "They know a tremendous amount about cooking these days," says Guarnaschelli, who was also a judge on this summer's Chopped Teen Tournament. "And there's been a real change in the perception of how early you can start." Today it's not much more than a distant memory, but there was a time when food preparation was seen as a chore instead of a cool career path—home cooks and professional chefs alike often slogged away in
the kitchen unseen. But the sudden popularity of the Food Network in the aughts launched a revolution, lending foodies rock-star status and casting the culinary arts in a whole new light. "As a kid I'd watch the Food Network instead of cartoons," says Alexander Weiss, 14, who won Fox's MasterChef Junior competition last fall. "And now there are so many shows featuring teens in the kitchen, inspiring others to try it at younger and younger ages. I have kids approach me on the street and tell me they're cooking now because of it, or that they tried rabbit at a restaurant when they never would have before."
Why Sleep Can Make on Break Your Life— and How to Do It Better Sleep is a real issue, particularly when you're a student. If you're in high school, you probably stay up super late doing homework only to wake up super early to get to first period on time. In college, you have less of a structured schedule, but you've got to contend with loud roommates, a 24/7 social life, and those seemingly inevitable allnighters. Stick to a schedule. It's important to go to bed at the same time each night and wake up at the same time every morning—weekends included. (We know, we know.) This helps regulate your schedule and body clock. If you do sleep in on weekends, the UCLA Sleep Center suggests keeping it to a maximum of two hours later than you usually wake up on weekdays. And if you must nap, snooze for an hour max. Get in the mood. Dr. Breus recommends setting an "electronic curfew" one hour before going to bed. This means no phone/tablet/laptop usage and no TV watching (especially programs that are tense or violent). Instead, read a book or magazine or write in a journal. If you think you'll cheat, enlist your roommate, sibling, or parent as an enforcer! Dim your lights an hour before you want to be asleep too (use a book light if you're reading!), and maybe even take a nice relaxing bath 60 minutes pre-hitting the hay. Be mindful of your overall health. This may seem like common sense, but alcohol, caffeine, smoking, and not getting enough exercise all affect your ability to get a good night's sleep, not to mention your health in general. But if you just can't kick your coffee habit, you can temper it a bit. The UCLA Sleep Center suggests not consuming anything with caffeine (including soda and chocolate) after 4 p.m. Respect your space—and your sleep. Do not do homework in bed! Your bed should be for sleeping only. Consider it a sacred snooze space, but also don't stress yourself out if you can't pass out there right away. The Mayo Clinic suggests "paradoxical intention" or staying passively awake. This means that if you can't sleep, you shouldn't fight it because you'll only succeed in keeping yourself up for even longer. Instead try to relax and not worry about it, and sleep will come quicker than you think. Mornings are important, too.
This is hard, but resist the button in the morning! bad sleep cycle. If you do clock, take in 15 minutes weird and specific, but it mornings to analyze your apps like Sleep Cycle and sure how this would work curfew rule, but these apps can help find you a better all? Good窶馬ow go to bed!
urge to use the snooze You'll only perpetuate a need to reset your body of sunlight at 7 a.m. Super works! You can also use sleep patterns thanks to Sleep Bot. We're not quite with Dr. Breus's electronic are out there and their data way to snooze. Got that
