S e l e c t Pa i n t i n g s by Pa u l H a m i l to n INTRODUCTION
Jim and I are excited to celebrate our representation of the nationally recognized landscape, still life, and rural landmark artist, Paul Hamilton. Please join us at Keny Galleries on Friday, February 16, 2024, 6:30-8:30pm. Paul has been nationally and regionally exhibiting his deft light-filled paintings for decades. He has had two one person exhibitions at the highly regarded David Findlay Gallery in New York and a two person exhibition at the Columbus Museum of Art entitled Landmarks in 2018. His winterscapes are distinguished by rich, painterly brushstrokes, outstanding nuanced delineation of light reflecting off water, ice, and snow and elemental refined compositions. The viewer is led into pictoral space yet the paintings have sophisticated surface patterning which unites his painterly realism with a Post-Impressionist accentuation of the picture plane. Many of his summer landscapes have voluminous scudding clouds, warmth-infused light and vital hues. His reductive compositions lend a unique tranquility to these paintings. We have also selected seven still lifes for this exhibition which demonstrate the artist’s range of subject matter and his mastery of the depiction of tactile textures, from glass to silver to flower petals. Paul’s spare, unadorned backgrounds lend an iconic, contemporary quality to his still lifes. The artist’s very-well depicted historic rural houses and barns have a tangible, physical presence which is strengthened by their simplified forms that often bask in strong sunlight. We look forward to enjoying Paul’s paintings with you at his first exhibition at our gallery. Tim Keny ‘December Snow’, 2022 (Dry Creek, Granville, Ohio) Oil on canvas 31 x 36 inches $5500
