Is Eating One Meal A Day Healthy?

You might have heard people on diet saying, that they are on “OMAD-one meal a day”. Today, we will probe, whether this is a healthy and preferable approach or not. This, however, is not a sustainable diet, people after some time get the hands-off and start binge eating. I asked a friend in this regard and she said, "I missed the great Pizza Hut delivery services at Stockport." To begin with, let’s find out Is Eating One Meal a Day really healthy? Some researchers say that eating three times, at regular intervals, helps humans to control the appetite and feel full than the number of meals eaten less than three. It means that a controlled appetite abstains you from overeating and therefore, from unnecessary weight gain. But the proponents of OMAD justify the phenomenon by stating its benefits as:

Increased Focus

People feel lethargic and prefer an afternoon slug, after having lunch or any heavy meal, but when you do not simply have the lunch, your energy would not drain. It will make you productive, active, and focused the entire day.

Lose Weight

Greater the number of calories intake, the greater is the weight. If one does not take the calories, where would the weight come from? The logic is that body gathers its energy from the calories that we take but when no food is fed to the body starts burning fats and therefore the weight is reduced.

Lose Weight However, the counter-argument is, how can a person be active and focused without the energy. The brain stops thinking when the basic power supply is halted. Consider not eating all day makes you think of food all the time than eating at a regular interval. Also, the verified risks of this diet cannot be overlooked as well. For example, at the initial stages of this diet people cannot control their hunger therefore, they faint. How much can one cover all the nutrients in one meal? This can definitely lead to nutrients deficiencies. The basic problems that arise due to OMAD are:

Insulin It is said that the OMAD diet increases the risk of diabetes. There is a possibility of reduced insulin in the bodies of people who opt for this diet. It impedes the body’s response to insulin. OMAD diet can lead to extreme hunger, this is because the number of appetite-stimulating hormones – ghrelin- rises. This is very risky for diabetic patients. They are prescribed to eat frequently as they feel hungry quite often.

Metabolism The researchers say that eating one meal per day negatively impacts the metabolism, sleepwake cycles, and the body clock. When the metabolism process lowers down, you are more likely to gain weight. It is said that the weight loss might be temporary, but after stopping this diet one may suffer more. Fat And Cholesterol The OMAD can increase the level of fat and cholesterol rather than decreasing it. Restricted eating increases the number of low-density lipoproteins cholesterol and therefore leads to increased blood pressure.

OMAD is basically a strategy for losing weight, but there are other healthy options for losing weight. For example, a small diet at frequent intervals aided with a simple exercise. Isn’t that wise?
