How Do People Make Money Online? – There Are Two Kinds of Answers How Do People Make Money Online? There are tons of ways to make money online and people have been looking for them since way back in the days of the first BBS systems in the late eighties and early nineties. Since that time, countless successful online businesses have been launched. For everyone out there who can’t quite decide how do people make money online,

there’s another who is making a partial or full time income completely on the internet.

But of course, as with anything else, there are good ways and bad ways to go about this. “How Do People Make Money Online” is a complex question with thousands of answers. To zoom in on one that might be most valuable to you, it may be a good idea to think in terms of the good answers and the bad answers.

The bad answers: - Require lots of face time and hard work from the online business owner - Have slow returns or returns that go up and down seemingly at random - Rely on just one method for marketing and might fail if it doesn’t work - Reproduce a “job” — in other words, you’re basically an employee The good answers: - Require very little face time and allow others to do most of the work - Have steady returns that respond easily

to increased investment or effort - Rely on multiple methods for marketing and aren’t search engine prisoners - Are a real “business” — the owner is nobody’s servant

How Do People Make Money Online: The Bad Answers There are a lot of semi-successful online businesses. In other words, the person behind them is making some money, but not nearly enough to justify the time he or she spends. If you look at the list above, you’ll discover that virtually all “semi-successful” (which might as well mean “unsuccessful”) online businesses suffer from one or more of the issues listed.

Unfortunately, this kind of business is usually not a dismal failure in terms of what it has to offer the owner financially. And this is unfortunate because it means that person will never revisit the question “How Do People Make Money Online?” and adjust their earlier notions.

Let’s look at some examples: - A graphic designer has a website where she gets customers, calls them, does an interview, gets information, and then produces a whole graphic product for a flat rate. Even writing that sentence is exhausting. She probably has a semisuccessful business and should be asking herself: “How Do People Make Money Online?” Why? Because she’s spending an enormous amount of time providing individualized services, so that’s problem one above. Her returns could change for any reason or no reason: For example, her clients might cut back on spending at certain times of the year, leaving her with less, which is problem two.

We don’t know enough from the example to know how she markets, so we can’t really comment on that. But if she’s spending a lot of time on marketing, for example going to trade

shows or making cold calls, then she’s looping back into problem one. Finally, and likely worst for her professional future, is problem four.

A lot of people have decided the answer to the big question is to become a freelance professional. Sadly for them, this makes them every bit as dependent on their employers as anyone with a traditional nine-to-five job, all year long. Simply, this isn’t the kind of online entrepreneurship that gets real results.

How Do People Make Money Online: The Good Answers We could go on and on with responses like the one above that fall into one or more of the traps we identified. But what we really want to know is what kind of online business is really ideal? Logically, it would be one that avoids all the pitfalls and has all the benefits we listed instead.

So what would a job like that look like? Let’s say our graphic designer in the example above decides that the answer to “How Do People Make Money Online?” has to work for her. She takes a step back and realizes that no matter how much she enjoys graphic design, having to do it around the clock, seven days a week, “on command” is going to make her hate it. So her new answer needs to look radically different.

How Do People Make Money Online: Switching From “Job” to “Business”

The new business needs to be something that allows her to genuinely set her own schedule. In her old “job,” she could only set her own schedule until someone made a claim on her time. It needs to be a lot steadier than her former work, which means it needs to respond to a big need people have — lots and lots of people, not just her tiny niche of business

consumers who need a graphic designer.

As a graphic designer, our friend was a “technician.” In other words, she was the one with the specialized skills who had to do all the work. But as an internet entrepreneur, she knows she wants to work in a climate where other people can handle the technical labor. All in all, she has to make the switch from services to products — because products are already out there, ready to be sold.

Finally, she has to find multiple ways to connect with people — not just search engine tactics, although that’s always going to be part of it. Unfortunately, if you rely on search engines alone, your business is owned by them. Their results and methods of computing them can change at literally any time.

If she makes all of these changes, our graphic designer will be an online entrepreneur who is truly her own boss.

How does she make this switch? She needs to make the change from services to products. She needs to home in on something that people really need — that they’re demanding — and look at the ways others like her have connected with those people.

How Do People Make Money Online? It’s Not “Hard Work and Determination” The factors we’ve worked through above are the real reason why so many people have come to this conclusion. The best answer to “How Do People Make Money Online?” is online marketing. Why marketing?

Here are the reasons: - Online marketing will never dry up or run out - Products are there to be marketed for people’s known needs - All the technical work is done or can be done for you - Financial independence really is possible

So, whenever you evaluate an online business opportunity, be sure to take a look at the factors above. They’re the best criteria for figuring out which opportunities might serve your interests and which may be dead ends.
