The pristine site of Samara Learning Space

Located on top on a small hill, overlooking the beautiful the southern Lombok Beach, Samara Lombok wanted a sustainable, natural, dynamic space which could accomodate a multitude of functions. Mainly a Learning Space for their local staff, Samara Lombok wanted a space big enough it could shelter up to 40+ people while still maintaining its vista to the beach. By using locally provided bamboo, bent into arches and covering it with bamboo roofing (pelupuh), the outcome of the final built design is an iconic landmark in the middle of Samara Hills.

Learning Space as seen from its two mainroad entrances.

Close-up look from its primary way in.

3D View. The front railing was initially designed for better access and view to the garden and the beach, which later scrapped for normal yet more functional bamboo railing. The arches provided aesthetics and keeping the space inside free from structure.

View from inside the learning space as the teacher is finishing up the classroom. Even though the width and length was huge, the ‘cutout’ on the topmost part of the roof shines through the clear poly carbonate roof, making the classroom completely bright and functional.

MILKYWAVE RESTAURANT Close up view of Milkywave from neighboring broadcasting tower site. Taken while being constructed as of March of 2022.

Client : Kings Family Abadi Location : Lombok Island, Indonesia Year : 2021 Total Area : ±700m2 Status : Under Construction Function : Restaurant (1st Fl.) and BambooLab Office (2nd Fl.) Working With : BambooLab Architects Team : Rarasati Intan W., Bunga Maharani Y., Hasna Nabilah, Dikarya Architects (Early Concepts) Role : Design Developments, Detailed Working Drawings, 3D Models, Bamboo Construction Drawing Software : Rhino, AutoCad, SketchUp, Lumion, and Photoshop

Originally intended to be a full-fledged restaurant, then its second floor was modified into BambooLab Office Space. The core idea is to give both floors a view to the outside, while the building itself still look iconic from wherever it may be seen.

Top row: Aerial view of the earlier phase of construction, and its road view in the later phase of construction. Middle: The intended original visual of the Milkywave when it was intended as a full-fledged restaurant. Courtesy of Dikarya Architects Lombok. Bottom: The current, under construction, design of the front elevation of Milkywave.

Top Left. The view from office opening in the 2nd floor overlooking directly to Mandalika Beach Top Right. The grand scale of the office space of bambooLab, caused by the countless overarching bamboo arches. Bottom Right. The mock-up models used as the basic for construction, working drawing, and 3D modelling Bottom Left. Elevation design comparison. The top one is the previous design, provided by Dikarya Architects. The new design provided privacy for the 2nd floor office while keeping access intact for the view and lights to come in.

GILI NUSA HILLS Latest Masterplan of Gili Nusa Hills, with lobby and entrance slightly on the right side, and the restaurant is replaced with a chill space.

Client : Kings Family Abadi Location : Lombok Island, Indonesia Year : 2021 Area : +7000m2 Status : Construction Preparation Function : Luxury Resort Complex Working With : Bamboolab Architects Team : Made Nuradi, Abraham Novemmarnus, Iman Wigastianto, Rarasati Intan Widuri, Miftahurrahma Ridwan, Gallus Presiden Role : Overall Masterplan Design Developments, Overall 3D Modeller, PIC for Lobby and Reception Software : Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, AutoCad, SketchUp, Lumion, and Photoshop.

View from the topmost area of Gili Nusa Hills, overlooking the beach of Areguling

Located in Gili Nusa, on top on a small hill, overlooking the Areguling Beach, the client wanted a luxurious complex of resorts containing restaurants, villas, spa, and bungalows. The main challenge of the site is maintaining the access of the view and obviously while maintaining the access for the customer. The solution is within the layout of the masterplan itself, which is configurated in a way so that every building has a view to Areguling Beach. The first iteration of the masterplan design has the entrance on the left side of the site, while the latest iteration of the masterplan has entrance slightly on the right side, minimizing vehicle footprint, noise, and ultimately retaining and keeping the mysterious concept of the hill pristine and intact.

The first iteration of the masterplan, where the lobby, reception, and restaurant is located to the left side.
