Three of our touring productions make an appearance at Mwldan you can experience a haunting night of ghostly tales with Mappa Mundi’s Still Life, enjoy thrilling new collaborations between some of Wales’ very best traditional musicians in SongChain 2, and witness the remarkable musical and poetic union between Wales and India with Ghazalaw. We have a fantastic line-up of cinema, led by the return of 007 in Spectre. There’s also thrills and adventure with Everest and The Walk, Dame Maggie Smith in Alan Bennett’s The Lady In The Van, another new Pixar movie The Good Dinosaur, and a new Star Wars adventure for Christmas. Plus comedy, dance, drama, music and the latest live satellite broadcasts featuring the best performances the world has to offer. We look forward to welcoming you to Mwldan soon.

STILL LIFE Victorian Ghost Stories based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe and M.R.James Blending the ghost stories of renowned horror writers Edgar Allan Poe and MR James with their own slice of Victorian Gothic, Mappa Mundi return with tales to chill the soul. Elements from Poe’s classic stories, together with celebrated ghost writer MR James’ ghoulish fables form the basis of a compendium of terrifying tales. These tales are linked by a Victorian photographer obsessed by death, with his own demons to exorcise come the strike of midnight. Full of haunting imagery from the Victorian era, Still Life is a celebration of 19th Century horror, given a deliciously dark Mappa Mundi twist. DOUG SCOTT’S EVEREST: THE HARD WAY 40TH ANNIVERSARY LECTURE Autumn 2015 will mark the 40th anniversary of the first ascent of ‘Everest: The Hard Way’, when the late Dougal Haston and Doug Scott made the first ascent of the mountain’s massive South West Face. In this special lecture Doug will tell of the epic expedition and climb, how his life led up to this defining moment and where it took him upon his return from the summit. This is a brand new lecture for the anniversary, lavishly illustrated with Doug’s celebrated mountain photography providing a very personal account of this legendary first ascent. NOT ABOUT HEROES This moving and intriguing play tells the story of the friendship formed between World War I poets Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen during their time together at Craiglockhart Hospital for nervous diseases. When Owen died in 1918, aged 25, only five of his poems had been published, yet he became one of the most significant poets of the twentieth century. His war poetry encapsulated the physical and mental anguish of his terrible personal experiences. Siegfried Sassoon’s influence and friendship had an enduring impact on Owen and his work, and the play includes extracts from their letters and poems, which as Owen himself said are about “war and the pity of war”. JOHN CHALLIS: ONLY FOOLS AND BOYCIE Enjoy an intimate evening with John Challis, one of the nation’s greatest comedy actors, best known as Boycie in BBC1’s Only Fools and Horses. In this one-off show the national treasure will reveal secrets from the set with stories and anecdotes from his dazzling career. Having worked with some of the biggest names in show business, he’ll be spilling the beans about Only Fools and Horses co-stars like Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst and friends and fellow performers like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Oliver Reed and George Best. He’ll also recall tales from his time in Dr Who, Coronation Street and other TV classics. GHAZALAW (CYMRU / INDIA) With support from BBC Horizons artist of the year Kizzy Crawford The sublime sounds of India and Wales combine in this unique and exquisite collaboration that brings together the Indian Ghazal and Welsh folk traditions. The 6-piece Ghazalaw is led by Mumbai-based Tauseef Akhtar (harmonium, vocal) and singer-songwriter Gwyneth Glyn (guitar, vocal) from Cricieth, North Wales. They are joined by Ashish Jha (tabla), Manas Kumar (violin), Georgia Ruth Williams (harp, vocals) and Sushant Sharma (guitar). Together, they weave the love poetry of their two ancient traditions, Ghazalaw live are a wonderful and uplifting experience, spiritually and sensually inspiring, featuring six excellent musicians in one beautiful concert.

Summer 2014. Sitting in a field, lost in a book about corporate greed, Tom heard a rustling. Looking up, he found hundreds of cows closing in on him and his dog. He was about to be crushed alive. He was furious. Had it been five years earlier then he would never have been reading a book like that, he would totally have seen the bovine riot forming, and he would have prayed his way out of it. Wales’ hottest property, Tom Price is a brilliantly hilarious stand up comedian and actor. Most well known for roles in Torchwood, Count Arthur Strong, Episodes and Secret Diary of a Call Girl, he was most recently a regular alongside Ruth Jones in Stella. MARTYN JOSEPH There is a versatility to Martyn’s music that is hard to categorise. Many have tried, resulting in labels such as Folk, Rock, Soul, Folk Funk and Americana; all of which somehow miss the mark. But sometimes music doesn’t need a defining genre and with the ability to articulate a sense of the bigger picture, Martyn’s music and social commentary manage to empower and speak for many. His songs are pictures, and stories, and feelings all put to music and delivered by a master craftsman. Autumn 2015 will mark the release of Martyn’s brand new studio album, and he’ll be showcasing these new songs, along with other familiar and much loved material. Their stormy relationship comes to a head when the workers strike for a 7 1/2-cent pay increase, causing conflict between management and labour and a battle of the sexes! MARK THOMAS: TRESPASS Trespass carries on from where Mark’s previous show 100 Acts of Minor Dissent left off. It is his usual odd mix of theatre, stand up, activism, a dash of journalism and a dollop of mayhem. Mark asks the question: If the ramblers of the 1930’s were here now what would they do to open up the cities? How do we turn the skyscrapers and corporate squares into our playgrounds? He sets out to try and carve a small space in the urban world where mischief and random chance can lurk. No one knows where this show is going to end up. IOLO WILLIAMS: WELSH RAREBIT Iolo Williams takes us on a wildlife tour of his Welsh homeland from mountain tops to seashore. On the way we meet disco-dancing black grouse, the Lamborghini of the bird world, Britain’s largest spider and a sex-changing fish. Iolo is Wales’ best-known naturalist and his witty, enthusiastic and friendly style is sure to please budding naturalists of all ages. Iolo has recently completed a landmark series on the landscape of Wales called ‘Tir Cymru’ for S4C and is currently working on a series on Birds for BBC Wales and a series on Welsh Wildlife for BBC 2 network. Over the last few years Iolo has been one of the presenters on BBC 2’s SpringWatch & AutumnWatch. GRAV After tremendous success and a run at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2015, The Torch Theatre Company return with Gareth Bale as ‘Grav’ in this wonderful play written by Owen Thomas. A one man show which explores the life of a man who was as fascinating away from the rugby field as he was on it. In October 2007 Ray Gravell, passed away after succumbing to complications resulting from contracting diabetes. He was 56 years old and was a man who for many embodied what it is to be Welsh. Directed by Peter Doran, ‘Grav’ reminds the world of an unique life well lived and of a man who did so much more than eat soft centres. Kenneth MacMillan’s famous version of Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy set to Prokofiev’s magnificent score returns to open the 2015/16 Royal Opera House Live Cinema Season. This Romeo and Juliet is rich in the swaggering colour of Verona street life and in sword fights and celebrations, but MacMillan’s focus is always on the complex emotions of the young lovers – especially on Juliet as she journeys through the delirious happiness of first love to a shocked, adult perception of her fate. David McVicar’s popular staging of this comedy returns in the hands of the leading British conductor Ivor Bolton. The cast is led by the star bass Erwin Schrott, who has sung the role to great acclaim at Covent Garden before, partnered with star Romanian soprano Anita Hartig in the role of Susanna. THE NUTCRACKER (Wright | Tchaikovsky) Christmas simply wouldn’t be Christmas without The Royal Ballet’s classic production of The Nutcracker. Loosely based on a story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, it opens with the Christmas festivities of little Clara and her family and progresses through a sequence of dreams and enchantments that take Clara on her magical journey to the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of the Sweets. Peter Wright’s enchanting production, with its wondrously growing Christmas tree and a rousing battle between the villainous Mouse King and an army of toy soldiers, mines the colour of Tchaikovsky’s score, retaining exquisite surviving fragments of the original Ivanov choreography, including the beautiful pas de deux for the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier. The inventive visual artist will stage Berg’s shocking masterpiece about a sexually irresistible young woman whose wanton behavior causes destruction for those who fall under her spell. James Levine conducts one of the operas with which he is most identified. Take one pair of estranged twin brothers (both called Antipholus) and one pair of estranged twin servants (both called Dromio), keep them in ignorance of each other and throw them into a city with a reputation for sorcery and you have all the ingredients for theatrical chaos. One Antipholus is astonished by his foreign hospitality; the other enraged by the hostility of his home town. The Dromios, caught between the two, are soundly beaten for obeying all the wrong orders.

Watch My Garden Grow combines Anne-Mie Melis’ practices of drawings, sculptural works, photography and stop-motion animation in an installation of beautiful, curious and playful forms that lead the viewer towards questions about our natural environment and the way in which we as humans interact with it.
Last Lines is an exhibition by the artistic collaboration matthews and allen. The exhibition includes a film based on the last lines of literary texts, which compels its audience to explore expectations associated with the concept of conclusion. In addition, the exhibition incorporates a number of textual works that encourage a playful reconsideration of text and its meanings.
We are extremely excited to announce that we will be opening the exhibition at 16:15 on 17.10.15 with music from acclaimed composer and sound designer, Jobina Tinnemans (jobinatinnemans.com). All are welcome, and advised not to miss this very special event! For example, the release dates of films are occasionally changed by distributors after we have gone to print. If you have not pre booked your tickets, we would advise you to check (with our Box Office or our website) prior to departing from home – especially if you are making a long journey - that our programme remains as advertised. We would recommend that you pre-book your tickets online or by phone whenever possible – we can then contact you in the event of any unforeseen circumstances. Theatr Mwldan is situated in the centre of Cardigan - turn left at the north end of the High Street/Pendre. There is ample parking behind the theatre for cars and coaches. Parking is free after 6pm. Mae Theatr Mwldan wedi ei lleoli yng nghanol Aberteifi - trowch i’r chwith ar ben gogleddol y Stryd Fawr/Pendre. Mae ‘na ddigon o le i barcio tu ôl i’r theatr ar gyfer ceir a bysiau.
