A DESIGNER’S OATH
Design is, among other things, the result of our eyes’ desire to dance. REPEAT AFTER ME: AS A DESIGNER, I UNDERSTAND THAT GOOD DESIGN IS a song. Form provides rhythm, while shapes, structured by form, are melodic. Colors are timbral, typography is lyrical, negative space is oxygenating, and the composition as a whole breeds movement, motion and time: the platform on which the possibility of song (and design) exists. Most importantly, I understand that design is a deeply personal conversation between composer and listener, artist and viewer. I understand that, when done right, design, like music, materializes an idea embedded in communion, in the mutual understanding of a shared experience: the experience of reality through the infinite vastness of our collective mind, the thriving machinery of our collective body, the dazzling light of our collective soul, and the incomprehensibly complex orchestra of our collective life, as we have come to know it through these such things.
AS A DESIGNER, I UNDERSTAND THAT GOOD DESIGN IS essentialized by love, and most notably, by unity, or togetherness. Conversely, bad design provides a duality, or separateness, in conversation. It births the possibility for unintentional misinterpretation, the possibility for the suffocation of purpose, the possibility for foregone love: prophetic words, lost on comatose tongue. I understand that it is only in unity that love exists. I understand that it is only love that quantifies this experience of life, and all else is an illusion. I understand that design, like other artistic pursuits, is a pursuit in the war against illusion. I understand that vision is the most predominant and digestible force of humans’ sensory experience, and that, consequently, I am presented with the most vital of creative responsibilities as I accept my role as a visual designer: a responsibility to manipulate this shared sensory experience of life for no greater purpose than that of discovering, harnessing, and basking in the fountain of goodness and love that is eternally erupting within us all.

1. Nimble
PHYSICAL THERAPY APP Nimble is an app concept designed to assist people with rheumatoid arthritis in their hands. It offers physical therapy services in the form of games and activities. It also provides an open forum where the users are able to interact with each other to share advice, stories, and more. The design solution involved creating a mobile app that was easy to use for those with rheumatoid arthritis. It was designed to immediately provide an escape from the daily struggle of these users, and in a way that was not only fun, but helpful.

ALL USER TASKS ARE DESIGNED TO EXIST WITHIN THE MOST COMFORTABLE RANGE OF MOTION FOR THE THUMB. After extensive research on how a certain arthritic user held her smartphone and interacted with its applications, an intuitive design approach was utilized to maximize comfort for those who use the app. As shown here, all tasks were designed to fit inside this radius of comfortable motion for the arthritic thumb.
EXERCISES THAT GENTLY IMPROVE FLEXIBILITY, strength, and endurance help to improve the [arthritic] patient’s mood, outlook, mobility, and the ability to participate in important life events.

2. The Imaginarium EDUCATIONAL APP
Inspired by the need for an educational app that wasn’t stagnant and immobile, The Imaginarium was created to fill a huge gap in the market of apps for children. Children are constantly being stimulated by the newness of life, and should not be held back by the typical app’s inability to evolve with them, and grow as they grow and change interests. The Imaginarium was designed to allow kids to customize the way that they learn, and as they are taught and tested on the customizable subject matter, the app tracks their growth and advances and changes based on their ability.
YOUR BODY, WHICH IS BONDING MILLIONS OF MOLECULES EVERY SECOND, DEPENDS ON TRANSFORMATION. Breathing and digestion harness transformation. Food and air aren’t just shuffled about but, rather, undergo the exact chemical bonding needed to keep you alive. The sugar extracted from an orange travels to the brain and fuels a thought. The emergent property in this case is the newness of the thought; no molecules in the history of the universe ever combined to produce that exact thought.

3. Proton U
PROTON THERAPY PREPARATION Proton U is an interactive storybookmade for University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute to prepare pediatric patients for their upcoming treatment. This project began in an Interactive class with 17 students and was then carried over into an Interactive || class to finish the project. The challenge going into the new semester was to simplify and refine the design to make it accessible to the patients at University of Florida Health Proton Therapy Institute.
PROTON THERAPY CAN BE INTIMIDATING, ESPECIALLY FOR A YOUNG CHILD. By introducing pediatric patients to the sights, sounds, and experience of our proton center through playful interaction, Proton U reduces anxiety and fear. Through this app, a parent can gently introduce their child to proton therapy long before they arrive for treatment.

This app is full of useful information that will help prepare you for proton therapy, whether you’re still asking yourself, “What is radiation?” or already sitting in the lobby at the treatment center.

4. Maruchan Ramen CAMPAIGN & WEB DESIGN
The challenge for this project was to design a multi-media campaign for Maruchan Ramen that appealed to the target audience (male college students) and encouraged brand interaction and memorability. The goal of the campaign was to get more people to buy the Maruchan Ramen product. A website was also designed to encourage more brand involvement from users, featuring fan-favorite recipes via Pinterest.

The worst curse to befall anyone is stagnation, a banal existence, the quiet desperation that comes out of a need for conformity. Ask for nothing less than inspiration. You must find the place inside yourself where nothing is impossible. The more boundless your vision, the more real you are.

ST. AUGUSTINE WALKING TOUR The design challenge was to design a walking tour for the tourists of St. Augustine in the form of a brochure and a mobile phone app. A successful app should provide information about each place and give navigation suggestions and picture references. The design solution involved creating a mobile app and brochure that provided navigation, references to each destination on the tour, and information about each place. Bright colors and imagery were utilized to make the app and brochure easier to navigate as well as more captivating to people of all ages and ethnicities.

BRANDING & MERCHANDISE DESIGN The Creatures is a psychedelic band that uses atmospheric noise combined with eerie but passionate vocals, to create a sound that fuses the strange, other-worldly nature of Pink Floyd with the earthly tones of Fleet Foxes. The branding was designed to show the eerie nature of their music and inspire curiosity, while simultaneously visually representing the foursome that comprises the band, with each their own unique traits and characteristics.

7. Foxhole APP CONCEPT
The concept of Foxhole was created out of the need for developers to gain a large base of users for the apps that they make, without having to spend money on advertising and struggling to make their apps known. With Foxhole, apps are selected based on personal interests, and are downloaded directly to the user’s phone. Within 24 hours, the apps are deleted and replaced with new ones. This way, developers have the opportunity to have their app downloaded directly to the user’s phone without advertising or marketing. In addition, users no longer have to search for the apps that they want but don’t know exist yet. They are given innovative apps, based on their interests, every day. They can even try apps that would normally cost money, for free.

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT: DEVELOPERS are given the opportunity to have their app downloaded directly to the user’s phone, ensuring that quality apps are not lost in an abyss of useless ones, due to low funds for advertising. USERS no longer have to search for the apps that they want but don’t know exist. They are given innovative apps, based on their interests, every day.
8. River Billing Solutions USER INTERFACE DESIGN
River Billing Solutions is a digital service that gives entrepreneurs and business simple tools needed to keep their business “flowing.� The challenge for this project was to design a user-friendly interface that beautifully enabled entrepreneurs to make company billing and invoice-tracking easy. The solution was creating a clean, grid-structured design that allowed businesspeople to save time, and therefore money, because of the ease-of-use and quick navigation.
