CONCEPT

Wabi-sabi Wabi originally referred to the loneliness of living in nature, remote from society; sabi meant "chill", "lean" or "withered". Around the 14th centur y these meanings beg an to change, taking on more positive connotations. • Wabi now means rustic simplicity, freshness or quietness, and can be applied to both natural and human-made objects. • Sabi is beauty or serenity that comes with age, when the life of the object and its impermanence are evidenced in its patina and wear, or in any visible repairs. For nowadays, wabi-sabi eventually evolved into a distinctly Japanese ideal. In today's Japan, the meaning of wabi-sabi is often condensed to "wisdom in natural simplicity". It is typically defined as "flawed beauty".

B a s e d o n t h e c o n c e p t o f t h e Wa b i - s a b i , I want to keet the basic shape of the museum simple. So I just use the simple g eometric shape, cylinder and box combineing together to for m the shape of the museum. Also, for the material choice, I use the cast-in-place concrete and wood to be the basic material of the museum to meet the principle of Wabisabi which is rusic simplicity, quietness and flawed beauty.
