The Nature of Chaos This project aims to explore visual interpretations of natural phenomenons reduced to their mathematical definite. A fractal is a never-ending pattern that is self-similar within different scales of observation. This project will examine a special type of fractal with a non-periodic path, known as a strange attractor that is often associated with chaos. Chaos can be found when nonlinear systems are iterated repeatedly. Strange attractors are system of differential equations that represent natural phenomena such as: the Lorenz attractor, used for modeling the atmospheric behavior, or the Chua’s attractor used for simulating electronic circuit behavior, or even the Rössler Attractor used for modeling the equilibrium in chemical reactions. This was a group project of four and the script was written and edited by all of the members.
The differential equations of strange attractors from natural phenomena was used as the base for the development of the study. The variables represented were explored within the development of this study for the generation of the geometric forms . The project simulates the attractors behavior and its formation process in Grasshopper using Python. 4 different fractal attractors definitions was used: Lorenz, Thomas, Aizawa and Halvorsen Attractors. A class structure, different functions, recursiveness, timer, for loops and particles system within attractor was implemented in the codes.

Future Habitat Temporary shelters, whether for post disaster shelters or future habitat on Mars, require a fundamental transformation of how structures are designed. Re configurable architecture which lends itself to re-adaptation can help respond to these needs. In this context, computational tools allow us to bring new ideas to reality. This project aims to design a temporary shelter with a modular system in order to overcome the building shortage in a distant planet or after a possible disaster. The proposed solution explores how subdivision and recursiveness can help respond to temporary shelter. This was a group project of four and the script was written and edited by all of the members.

Double curvature folding Net This biomimetic project is the combination of two nature-based principles. The actuation in joints is extracted from the Bulliform Cells in corn leaves and the net system is extracted from v. The main aim was to develope reversible shape changing adaptive systems. One potential application of the designed net is a water smart filter with adjustable sieving properties. Another possible application is an expandable shell structure that can adapt to uneven terrains by shrinkage in certain cells. This was a group project of four architects and two biologist. The principles were introduced and researched with great help from the biologists. The principles were then merged and developed mostly by the architects.

The Portal The Portal is the space between two places with different characteristics or different time zone or distanced locations. It’s not the connection that defines the portal, but its the sudden feeling of transition and movement that is caused for the individual, by not knowing or recognizing the path and by the uncertainty and unfamiliarity of the movement.
De-constructing an existing alienated building, reconstructing the reality The portal located on the border line of two divers districts of EU quarter and Matonge in Brussels, is composed of pathways seated in 12 story alienated office building, some perforating the office areas. The pathways, intersecting in points of incidents created to bring moments to stop and think. These points host mindful moment containing distorted mirrors, some are projection rooms with walls completely covered with digital panels or just simply areas where people can sit. The journey placed into the building is a ludic game with shadows and light, Illusion and reality, and new perspective that gives the feeling of transition. The materiality in the concrete used in the project, outlines the feeling making the space clear and pure in its perception.

The project is trying to make the unseen, seen, and the unknown, known, and to create a space that is perceived differently by each person and question the comprehension and understanding of the surrounding. The purpose of the intervention is to trigger people’s curiosity and expand and trick their mind and to lead people into this contemporary ritual in order to form their individual journey in space.

Academic Project
Space Syntax In this project, the connection between the two very diverse districts of the EU quarter and Matonge in Brussels, and toward the city center and the Pentagon was analyzed. The first analysis shows the current situation of connectivity and integration. To increase connectivity between the two districts, new path ways were introduced and the maps were studied again with the new connections. Since the two districts have undergone a lot of transformation through time, in the proposed plans, the focus is on minimum change concerning the connectivity of two districts. So each pathway can be treated as one single proposal for itself.

Sewing the two districts back together The new paths focused around Rue du Trone, as both an important road and as the invisible border between the districts. Walking from Rue de Dublin to the Rue Caroly, the vintage Brussels houses change to buildings with glass facades and curtain walls, the narrow strees change to the perpendicular wide streets, all imposing a change and transformation. The proposal tends to create the connection by manipulating the border and connecting some of the main gathering points in the two districts. It can be seen that with the proposed paths, the color of the streets in Matonge changed from dark blue, to light blue and light green indicating higher integration.

Renovation of OPEK building The OPEK warehouse was built in 1956, a post war example of modernist architecture in Leuven. The aim of this project was to renovate the building to a multi-function cultural center with two venues. The biggest challenge was placing the venues and reinforcing the existing structure which was done with adding concrete trusses that sew the existing remaining structure together (black structures in the diagram) and to maintain the height of the large venue, instead of simply using huge beams, we used hybrid Vierendeel trusses and transformed the 2nd floor to a large beam. The detailed section was the expected outcome of the project and this project was a 4 persone group project. My main task in the group was the structural solution and the details of connections and big venue. But everything including the structural concept, the design concept, acoustical solutions and ventilation was done as a group and every one contributed to all tge aspects.

Center for Street & Working Children
Street children Any girl or boy for whom the street has become his/her habitual abode and/or source of livelihood; and who is inadequately protected, supervised, or directed by responsible adults. They are between 5 and 18 years old. It’s estimated there are between 20 thousand to 2 million street children in Iran. Mirroring the resentment and hatred of society, and lack of supervision and education, they are aggressive and violent. Feelings of jealousy, revenge, instability, distrust, depression and stress escalate their insecurity and make them reluctant to socialize. Many street children are involved in begging, drug trafficking, stealing, prostitution or survival sex.
This project, located in Tabriz, Iran, tries to revive the lost sense of belonging. Despite their bitter experiences,
these children are strong and independent. Therefore, I took a step back, and instead of separating them from the society, I’m creating a slow, careful step to help them recognize their talents, by focusing on creating a bridge from their current life toward a better life and letting them know they are capable and worthy of a better future.

Considering this approach, this project contains 4 main functions:
1.Accommodation
Permanent and temporary accommodation for children. These children tend to form peer groups. These groups play the role of family and are a source of economic and emotional support for them. The idea is to form a place where they can form these family-like groups and have the feelings of safety and belonging.
2.Recovering The concept of childhood
The emotional, social and physical development of young children has a direct effect on their overall development and on the adult they will become. Working and living on streets, deprives them from the far most important experience of childhood. For this matter this project provides both indoor and outdoor playgrounds.

3.Education And healthcare
Providing a facility for education with more focus on their raw talents and potentials and educating them through the window of their current occupations. They can attend workshops and atelier for painting, playing music and etc. Also healthcare facilities has been provided in this project.
4.Earning income
Most organizations established in Iran for this matter face financial problems after a while and some are forced to close their doors. Therefore a public section has been located in this project. Areas such as marketplace, coffee house, a small theater and art gallery can secure this complex financially. The marketplace can also be a used to sell children’s handworks, drawings and other outcomes of their workshops and classes which can be a source of income for them.

West Bus Terminal This bus terminal is located in northwest of Tehran and is the main terminal for trips through the northern an western routes of Tehran. The terminal consist of two main sections: arrival and departure platforms. lounges, food-court, administrative section, parkings for buses and visitors, and taxi stations. In addition to these, a small hostel and a volleyball yard is located in the north of the site for bus drivers’ temporary accommodation.

Curved space frame is the chosen structure system for this project because it’s lightweighted and is able to cover a large spans with minimum disruption of interior space The main .shape of the structure formed around the plan, functions, climate and aesthetic factors .This project was more about the whole idea of design around structure and we weren’t supposed to concern ourselves with structural calculations

Cultural Center This cultural center is located in Tehran. the main function is attracting local people to skill classes, visiting art galleries and attending the theater and over all, engaging in cultural events. The concept of the project formed with collage art. Using different pictures (not necessarily architectural pictures), helped forming the main idea. Looking at it from a distance of about 3 meters, took the concentration away from the details and toward the big picture that consisted of many spaces and ideas for both interior and exterior design.

Structural System Studies Tensile structure studies: This was part of a structural system study course. After learning the exact details and understanding the behavior of this structure system, we had to design a tensile structure using appropriate tools and materials to simulate this system. No particular function was defined for this project. (This was a Two-person project )
Folded plates structure studies: Apart from the tensile structures, folded plates system was studied and variety of pattern were analyzed. A project assigned to every individual to experiment this system. In this project, the shape and function was not important, as well, and the concentration was on the experience of finding and re-designing a pattern and choosing the right material for this model.

Peerneshin This was one of my best early experiences in design that started with one word, “Peerneshin“ . Roughly translated , Peerneshin means a seating for old people, but it’s actually a main element in entrances of Traditional Iranian houses. In Iranian culture, hospitality and venerating people (passerby or guest) are of high value. Peerneshin offer a platform to the passerby on behalf of its owner, a place for pausing and resting at the entrance. (Pictures on the right) This project is the translation of concept of Peerneshin in a desert, offering a moment of peace and a shade from the sun to the ones who need it.
