strology literally means "the Science of the Stars", from the Greek astrologia: astron (constellation; star) and logia (study of; ordering principle; utterance). It contains both the idea of an organised body of knowledge of the cosmos, along with the way the stars "speak" to us, or give meaning to our lives. A person who practices astrology is called an astrologer. A very ancient, but still vital discipline, astrology seeks the meaning and application of the influences of the planets, stars and other celestial phenomena in our lives. Astrology and astronomy have in modern times become separate studies, though for most of human history they were two sides of the same coin Exploring ourselves, our relationships and our place within the world, astrology has found that the symbolic relationships between the heavenly bodies are
significant, and can be seen as a map to human destiny. This is expressed in the hermetic maxim:

It is said that each sign of the zodiac represents and affects specific parts of the human body. Certain stones and gems are also assigned to each sign, and may be used as talismans or meditation focal points.

Mayan astrology is very front and center at the moment with the emphasis on 2012 in the main stream media. The Mayans had a very complicated and precise way of measuring the movement of the stars through the heavens, and believed as a culture that all things were govened by their transit across the skies. Pyramids also played a large part in their physical life, like the Egyptians astrology and astronomy were one subject.
Many modern people dismiss the idea that the stars have any affect on our experiences here on earth, but every newspaper has a horoscope section, and most people when asked will know their sign. There is quantifiable proof from centuries of astrological calculations that there is something to it..What do you think?

The animals stood in front of the king in no particular order. The Rat, being smaller than the rest, hopped on the Ox's back and proceeded to play the flute. The king was very impressed by this display. He gave the Rat first place. Second place was given to the Ox for its good sportsmanship, and third was given to the Tiger, who appeared so courageous.
