Just to the east of the river Tees, Redcar Beach Caravan Park is right by one of the longest and loveliest unbroken stretches of beach in England.
The first part of Redcar’s name - the ‘Red’ - is derived from ‘hreod’, which is Old English for ‘reed’. The second part - the ‘car’ - is thought to come from the ancient Scandinavian word ‘kjarr’ which meant marsh. Both words relate to how the landscape would have been in far off times.
It’s a place of bays and cliffs, of big beautiful skies and vista like views - it’s dramatic. And what’s really lovely, is that at the same time as delivering such a superb slice of scenery, it also offers all the fun of the traditional seaside.
