In the distance the clouds pay me no mind. They exist in otherworldly time. They dissolve into night. The stars appear dismembered. They barely shed light. I can see nothing, nothing but the shadow of a make-believe blackbird, in the shadow of a make-believe tree, and the moon lowers her eyes, when she gazes at me.

George Freek is a poet/playwright living in Belvidere, Illionois. George Freek's poetry appears in numerous Journals and Reviews. His poem "Written At Blue Lake" was recently nominated for a Pushcart Prize. His poem "Enigmatic Variations" was also recently nominated for Best of the Net.
