1 INTRODUCTION

THE BLUE GREEN LINE

An inter-city railway line runs from North to South On the Western side of the ward. In the recent couple of years, the Chinnapanahalli main road that runs adjacent to it has seen a tremendous increase in traffic, as it is an alternative route that leads to ITPL from Outer Ring Road. Inter-city railway lines often form physical borders as well as social barriers in a city. Open spaces along the corridor become fear locales, and in this case vacant spaces along the line have been used to dump garbage. The revitalisation of this corridor is essential to weave it into the urban fabric


1. Commercial land adjacent to railway track which may be subject to disturbance

2. Dense traffic congestion along main road during peak hours in the morning and evening due to: (i) Ill-maintained road (ii) Usage of narrow road by school buses

4. Jaywalking of pedestrians across railway track, causing accidents and even deaths

6. Irregular water supply in residential areas along railway track in Doddanekundi as well as Marathahalli


6. Open spaces along railway line can be used for large scale rainwater harvesting and supply systems, to overcome irregular water supply problems in respective areas

5. Cycling paths/ parks can be made on the edge of the railway corridor which will also serve as buffer zones

2. Revitalisation of Chinnapanahalli main road by provision of school bus bays for pick-up/ drop-off. Accomodation of properly enginereed speed bumps at regular intervals on the road.

4. Allotment of specific safe spots for pedestrian crossing, by using vegetation and installations to prevent pedestrian access.

A project that aims to rejuvenate and repurpose the railway corridor and give it a new purpose by also tackling the water insufficiency issue that particularly continues to be a severe problem in the entire ward.
